absolutely need to beat mtl now to start the attack on the eastern conf top 8
BORO can stay up! I would like to see more Weircoich as well. maybe Scratch Phillips for a game.
to keep the momentum going we need at least 2 of the next 3. Especially when you consider who the 2nd and 3rd games are against.
Its about time we make a back up look like a back up!
01. Karlsson – you are a FUCKING God!
02. Trade rumours? Anyone? Thought so… FULL team effort.
03. Bobby fucking Ryan – he’s everywhere and sticks up for the boys!
04. Scratch Neil? Sure go for it…
05. Once again, Sweden, you are awesome.
I could go on about last night’s game. We came out to play and played well. We had to fight adversity and the refs last night, but we overcame and met the challenge.
I am a Condra fan, however seeing how we played last night on the penalty kill, not to sure I am missing him.
Smith and Neil are workhorses who don’t get credited enough.
And finally, I think the Stache has found our lineup combos to go forth with.
In SWEDEN and The STACHE we trust!
GO SENS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS – Suck it Subban
Dude relax man its 1 win, we won other games with other combos…They have to win a few in a row for the combos to actually make sense.
Karlsson is a bum oh and now he’s a God haha his first goal was result of a bad goalie in nets, a starter doesnt let that shot go in, lol. His 2nd goal was empty net.
Karlsson is playing better but he is far off the level of greatness he once was. Hopefully it keeps getting better.
ok his post was a little optimistic for a close win over one of the league’s lower class, but no need to crap on his parade.
And Karlsson was absolutely flying yesterday, and definitely back to his high flying skating, as he was skating around the opposition with fantastic ease, and that first goal was outstanding, not an easy save by any means.
But, true that this was a must win against a weaker oppositition.
Test will be tomorrow, in a playoff like atmosphere vs MTL.
But overall nice clutch road win by our Sens,
Karlsson Norris winning year: first 15 games 13 points -3
Karlsson this year: first 15 games 17 points +1
not saying he cant still improve but saying he is “far off the level of greatness he once was” is way off base
It isn’t that off base. During his Norris season Karlsson was retrieving the puck non-stop from incoming players and was like lightning on the ice, no one could touch him. He’s been pretty bad in the defensive zone this year, he’s not in 2012 form yet and while he’s in the running for the Norris he needs to win a Norris, or at least be in the top three, for the rest of his career at this point.
disagree with that he looked pretty awesome lastnight.and his first wasn’t a weakone the goalie own def screened him. that wold make king karlsson pretty smart out there
Great effort by the whole team !!
Karlsson now showing the form he had prior to devastating Achilles injury.
Lines should finally settle into a regular rythm, and become automatic chemistry.
Defense pairings are still a work in progress, but getting fine tuned .
Anderson still our # 1, but Lehner needs to play more often.
Need to build the consistency and confidence to want to win, and it continues
on Thursday at home vs Montreal !
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This game makes me feel better about Boro’s one way contract next season.
Good going guys…hope it’s not to much to ask but could you put up scores like that again? Please?
Thought Grant played well and Borowiecki did what he needed to do, kept it simple and kept it physical. I would prefer WireCock over Gryba still. WireCock would be a better option on the PP as well, Phillips just doesn’t have the pace to recover when he’s on the point. Generally though I liked the blueline pairings.
We are still giving up way too many shots which has hurt us before and will hurt us down the road if it continues, but far more positives than negatives. The Turris line continues to excel, Spezza played a much more complete game (even though I’m not one who continually calls for this, it was nice to see). We were physical when we needed to be.
Although generally unpopular on these boards, I really liked Smith and Conacher last night. If we had a powerplay that even looked like it knew what we were doing we could have turned some of Conacher’s penalty drawing abilities into goals.
Good post, generally agree on all points,
But really have to question Phillips and his minutes.
For the love of god, he has been a great soldier, but his best years are behind him, and nothing I have seen, leads me to believe that he has shown any signs that it may improve.
Please decreas his mins, and i think he will be more effective.
I cannot explain why we see him in important PP and PK mins when those should be chewed up by one of our top d-man in Methot.
think it was 34 shots they had on us. the 3rd they had 5 shots. that’s 2 games in a row were shutting down the other team in the 3rd that’s a good sign
Great game tonight. My one critique still goes back a few weeks with our schedule lol. I said losing to San Jose is nto a viable excuse regardless of how tough our schedule was. Buffalo beat Niemi. We couldn’t beat their back-up. We needed to win a few of those games, and schedule was not an excuse
Now that thats’ off my chest, great game all around. Smith had a good game and I was very impressed with the Spezza line away from the puck. Neil had a goal which was great. His fights, meh lol. One of his fights actually ruined a rush for us but I’m happy with what neil brought to the team last night. A good mix of grit and not sucking
yea, buffalo proved all the sens’ schedule apologists wrong last night – in SJ of all places too.
those were winnable games…..alas
the east is still open outside of the penguins and the sens have an opportunity to make up for lost time with teams immediately ahead of them stagnating. Mtl is another opportunity tomorrow. Need to make the games count. a 5 game win streak at home would be fantastic.
And you have to consider that SJ was also coming into this game with it’s first 2 game losing record of the season, which has more than likely played into the minds of the players and Niemi. They appeared unbeatable and once that is proven wrong, your mind can play mean tricks.
But it also goes back to the old saying, as bad as some teams may appear, any team in the NHL can win on any given night.
And didn’t SJ actually score a potentially winning goal, which Myers kicked out over the line? Result, game went to SO and Buffalo wins in an upset. I heard on the radio it did cross but somehow the review didn’t notice it or something. I only heard it, I haven’t seen it myself. If that’s true, SJ should have won it, not Buff.
The old “Ref intended to blow the whistle” it was off the post then in during a scramble. Even if they reviewed it, it wouldn’t have been a goal
I really don’t understand why Michalek is not playing with Spezza.. the two have shown great chemistry in the past. Keep MacArthur – Turris – Ryan together and put Spezza – Michalek with Greening/Zibanejad/Conacher/Neil
Because they have been picked apart all year when together. They have been together most of the year with that 3rd spot being a revolving door.
I don’t think they have shown “great chemistry”… They’re both good players, and so can get results, but their styles don’t work particularly well together…
Michalek on the 3rd line with Smith gives that lines tons of power… I like Michalek, i just wish he wasn’t making as much money…
Zibanejad looks good with Spezza… They might develop some chemistry… So far so good…
Its the right move. Clearly.
I thought it was a pretty decent game, still scared about how many shots we are giving up. It will kill us against the better teams in the league, the forwards are finding their groove now the D needs to do the same. I’d like to see Gryba play a more simple game like BoroCop showed last night, he seemed to be in the proper position most of the night and was physical.
Still not sure how there was no penalty when Ryan’s face was driven into the glass.
the one guy who really had a good game last night was cowen i think. quiet game with no adventures and good physical play. +2 on the night, played 24:32 minutes which was 2nd most on team behind Karlsson’s 26. thats the type of game-stats we need from cowen.
still dont understand Phillips TOI being greater than Methot’s even after PP time adjustment…….mind boggling.
sens need to change the logic here and shift Phillips to sub 15 minutes per game to make his minutes more effective and useful.
great post, and there is absolutely no explanation as to why Phillips will play more than Methot…none whatsoever.
because he takes that much longer to actually get off the ice. lol
I agree. well said.
Better all-around effort last night. Still lots of room to improve though. Without a few unreal saves from Lehner that could have gone the other way.
The good news is that we seem to be able to score which was tough going last season (for various reasons). I’m confident that our defensive game can be fixed. The system worked last year (though our goalies did make us look better than we were) and the personnel are all quality.
I expect Borocop to go back down once Cowen and Gryba start following his example and playing like an edgy rookie instead of trying to be Karlsson 2.0. I’m also expecting Grant to go back down once Condra is healthy and they’ll likely call up a forward with a bit more offensive flair (though no complaints on how Grant has played).
Ok, i can’t let that one go – you can’t use the phrase “offensive flair” and say that Condra will be inserted and Grant sent down. Grant is every bit as good defensively as Condra (better, in my opinion) and he takes draws.
Wasn’t saying that Condra has more offensive flair than Grant. But that I’d expect them to call up a guy from Bingo that does. Pageau perhaps, or Prince/Puempel/Stone/Petersson etc.
Gryba is not better than Borocop by any means. I’m pretty sure Maclean said last year he only had Gryba up because of his right hand shot. and that he didn’t know much about him but he impressed
Even through the playoffs and up to this year, I still think Boro is higher on the depth chart for the future of the sens than Gryba is, hence his one year dela next year
True to the last word – except Gryba isn’t waiver exempt so he’s staying and the Sens won’t carry 8 D.
The Kassian fight is the exact type of fight that the NHL needs to get rid of. Unless there’s some story behind it nobody knows about, it was a typical “hey I’m a goon and you’re a goon – wanna fight?” kind of scrap that serves no purpose.
The Borocop fight on the other hand was the exact type of fight the NHL needs to keep in the game. Guy delivers a good clean hit, someone gets upset and both agree to drop the gloves. Note that I’m not saying Boro had to agree there – a clean hit shouldn’t require a player to defend himself. But I’m fine with some hairy eyeballs and even a little pushing and shoving after a good, clean hit. And if it leads to two relatively equal guys dropping the gloves that’s okay too and adds excitement to the game.
Hard to tell with Neil if either of his fights had any meaning at all other than him feeling like it. Usually Neil only fights when he feels his team needs a spark or someone on the other team needs to put in his place – though not always.
I disagree Hax, why would it be ok for some dude to go fight after a clean hit, it just slows down the game and momentum. The Kassian fight is part of “the code”, 2 goons on the ice, they fight each other. Simple, fans like it, players like it. The goons have to have fun too!!.
Atleast this way the goons dont go after non combatants. Both are willing and its usually a good fight.
Missed my point. I never said “forced to fight” – even said that Boro could have declined. I’m fine however with a player saying “hey you hit our guy and I don’t like that” and then BOTH agreeing to settle it with gloves off.
I do agree that mis-matched fights are a big problem and that “fair” fights are not. But I really don’t see any value in a staged fight with no tension between two players that are otherwise useless.
Staged fights are great for the fans and the players. Nobody gets hurt btu the goons. Would you rather a goon go after a star?
If you have played hockey, at a higher level that is. You would come to love staged fights. Its exactly what they are, staged, so no one else gets hurt and the fighters give a huge boost to their respective teams. Its actually a great way to control the fighting.
I would rather the goons play in the AHL or ECHL and leave the NHL to people that can play hockey and the staged fights to MMA.
And “nobody gets hurt but the goons”? I’ve seen enough sad stories of retired goons with mental issues or drug addiction thank you.
I will give you 5% credit though in that there is some truth to the notion that having guys like Boll in the league means smaller guys are less likely to fight in case Boll challenges them next – but that’s not enough reason to keep them around.
You disagree?!? NO WAY!!
I absolutely hate staged fighting. That has to be gone from the game. It really pisses me off when I see that type of fight.
Condra comes back.. Kassian is out..
I’m going to say it. Every time Kassian is in the lineup… win.
Might be a good luck charm!
Its because we fought 4 times. Fights correlate to wins..easy to identify
It’s probably because everyone else feels that they have to make up for what he lacks… like playing hockey.
I just love the enthusiasm in the commentators voice as Karlsson sinks the empty netter lmao!… for his second of the night… Other dude.. and he’s a defenseman.
Am I ever glad to see Karlsson back to form. I was really scared that he would never be like he used, but the last few games have been classic King Karl. Still not 100%, but man when he’s on the ice he a real game changer. We’re so lucky to have him with the Sens.
Nothing I like more than Spezza and Karlsson padding their stats on the empty net! Finally some fights and the boys get a win from the added intensity.
Chirp? Anymore on the trade talks?
Nothing new, nope. And at no point did anything sound “imminent”. They have talked to Phoenix and Florida though. I know that much.
Great picture of Boro Chirp..
On Thursday, the Sens have an opportunity to remember how it felt to dominate an opponent (one they embarrassed not so long ago), and ingrain that into their developing “identity”.
They do that and there will be a major momentum swing for the current home stand and perhaps long after. They lose the game and there may be a bunch of new questions and doubts to deal with.. Is there enough confidence in the tank to do it?
Jordin Tootoo is on waivers!!! We need more grit in our bottom 6!
honestly though, I’d take him in a heartbeat if it means we can unload Kassian somewhere lol..I would think a Tootoo-Smith-Neil line would be much better haha
But its a stupid idea, and I know we aren’t claiming him
yeah….we don’t need more penalties thanks. We need less.
Why break up a winning combination…Kassian in = we win… Hellooooo!
I agree with most of you, a much better effort by the Sens last night. Lehner was the main reason for this win. Those early saves gave the team a good kick in the nuts and pushed them to up the ante. I love seeing how the players responded to his work in the crease. They did it for Andy, but it just seems like they pushed harder last night for Lehner. I guess losing 5 in a row and not wanting it to reach 6 is a good reason too.
The defensive game was better, outside of Lehner doing a great job, but they need to continue keeping those penalties down. Keeping the shots to a somewhat reasonable number is a big key to the win as well. Ottawa this season has not had a problem putting pucks in the net. They are 11th in GPG% with 3.07, and also 11th in 5on5 for and against ratio with 1.13%. Those two stats alone show you they are keeping up with the bigger boys in that dept. They just need to figure out how to continue cracking down on shots against and we should see the goals against of 3.00% drop significantly. A 3.00% puts them 25th overall.
I should point out that the Sens have not finished a season (as far back as the NHL stats are calculated) with a GAA in the 3.xx% range. The closest they’ve reached was 2.99% in 2010-11 and the Sens didn’t fair to well that year.
Another stat we can focus on, Winning after scoring first, we are at .800%. But our Winning % is only .100 when trailing first. So I think it’s important that we get that 1st goal going forward, as it is a big momentum swing for the boys.
Ok, enough stats. Just super happy to see the Sens get the win and it couldn’t be at a better time with the Habs arriving at CTC this Thursday. Go Sens Go!!!
Question: Last night Sharks scored in OT that went Unnoticed then ultimately lost in Shootout. I know this would never be done, but doesn’t this seem like a rare occassion where the NHL can stpe in and change the outcome? I mean if they call it a goal, then the play and game is dead at that moment anyways. If this happened with 20 seconds left in the 3rd, the argument could be that Buffalo had a chance to tie it up. But it was OT
Like I said would never happen, but its an itneresting thought
Yep lost that bet, cant believe the NHL did not double check during the game. They can come back later and say it was a goal. Game over.
Not that this would happened, and no way should it happened but question of the day what would ottawa get for Erik Karlson from other nhl teams
Probably get hung up on, other GM thinking they’re trying to punk them lol
doubt it. Pretty close though…
Easy now, not Stammer but some top 3 player for sure, If Karlsson had suffered no such injury, then I would say his trading equivalent is Crosby and Crosby alone but with the injury, he’s lost a step and doesnt control the game like he used to.
A 1st round pick for sure, as for players, probably the best prospect a team has, like a bluechip.
Bang on tooks, good analysis.
I’d say two first rounders and a high-end roster talent. The thing for the incoming GM is he doesn’t know how Karlsson would react/play in his market. Say he goes to Philly or Rangers, they aren’t going to just hug him after games if he makes bad plays, they’d tear him apart. Our media being basically cheerleaders makes life a lot easier for the players.
A riot and the death of Eugene…
Funny question…was thinking the same thing last night. What is the worth of a generational talent like The King? I wouldn’t trade him for anyone in the NHL and sure as hell wouldn’t trade him for 1st round picks…even the 1st overall pick. The only thing I could even imagine would be a Lindros from Quebec trade…even then, there would have to be extenuating circumstances.
So stoked!!!! Just got my tickets for tomorrow nights game !!!! 324 Row B can’t wait, great seats to take my 7 y/o and watch the sens TROUNCE the habs
funny/odd stat from ian mendes last night: The Erik/Eric rule continues. All five times Sens have scored first this season, it has been off the stick of either Karlsson/Gryba/Condra.
Really great to see the Sens get back into the win column. It has been way to long. It was also nice to see the D doing their job much better than they have been doing. Karlsson finally looked more like himself. Our goaltending finally looked solid. And the Turris/Macarthuer/Ryan line has been one of the best lines the Sens have had in a very long time. Hopefully this team can find some consistency and continue this type of play moving forward.
ESPN’s Craig Custance is still sticking behind him picking the sens to win the eastern conference. reasons: maclean, lehner, karlsson.
This for playoffs or season? They would need an incredible streak to have most pts in east i the season
i think playoffs probably.
Either way it makes no sense, playoff or season, we aint getting by PIT, BOS.
As much as I enjoy the optimism… hard to beat Pittsburgh I think…
Tomorrow nights game will be the telling tale if the Sens have ‘turned the corner’.
Mtl has the speed.. we will see how the Sens D handle that. Hoping it means the little smurfs end up on their asses a lot… and someone punches the smirk off of Prust..
Going to the game as well…
Prust is injured isnt he? So he might not even play.
Listening today to 690 Montreal it is apparent that a full scale war has
broken out between the pro Subban supporters against Therrien and
Montreal management. Therrien suggested that Subban may not be good
enough to play on Canada’s Olympic team. It has enraged some parts of
the Habs fan base.
Now people are speculating Montreal would rather trade than sign him at
the end of the season.
Therrien is an idiot, he aint better his 2nd time around. They need to can his ass. He calls out Subban cuz he made a rare mistake the other night. Subban leads the Habs in Pts. Therrien is like Clouston = Clueless.
So whats worse than Media and Fans ripping on cornerstoen dman of franchise? (IE Ottawa) well how about coach ripping on cornerstone dman of franchise (Montreal) #Norispeck
Also its really funny how Montreal refuse to let Subban be the guy in Montreal. They battled him hard on the last contract negotiation saying he was not worth more than 3 million. Well now he is a Norris winner, and hates his coach
Excellent recipe for success
In the end its a huge loss for MTL and their fans. Subban will go where he is wanted and I assume that is 29 other clubs.
To boston to play with his Bro and be the heir apparant to Chara? haha
Subban playing for the soon to be Brooklyn Islanders is a marriage made in Heaven.
I’m just hoping they don’t choose tonight to take the reigns off of him. Subban is an excellent player and I’d rather he didn’t have a big game for them tonight.
Anyone think Methot is injured? Otherwise why is Phillips getting more minutes? cant be because of Phillips amazing play of late…
Without checking further, what types of minutes are they playing? I know Maclean keeps putting Phillips on the PP. Is CP4 overall ice time greater just because of his PP time?
Only other explanation is that Maclean wants to go down with the ship, and by ship I mean his vets and by Vets I mean past their prime 3 years ago vets
That’s a fair point, but why is Phillip’s on the pplay to begin with? It seems that of you wear an A on this team, you get quality minutes no matter what.
Spezza wears the C but doesn’t get the same consideration. (he gets decent minutes, but they are wasted if he plays with “Casper” Greening)
It’s about the pairings. Since they broke up Karlsson-Methot Meth has been typically paired with the #6 D while Phillips usually gets paired with a better guy. So the “better guy” pairing gets more ice.
Now you could easily ask why Methot isn’t paired with the better guy and played more but that one I can’t answer other than maybe pairing Phillips with the #6 guy dressed is going to be too scary a pair?
I’m not as down on Phillips as most (shocker) but I do question why he’s on the PP. With 15 seconds left, fine. But as the guy on unit 2 I’m not so sure. I’d rather see a forward there or Cowen’s heavy shot or Methot’s steadily improving passing.
Lupil hits Kadri – I could watch this all day.
Saw it on HB earlier and is possibly the best thing I’ve seen all day
Can that be a suspendable act? I mean he was clearly trying to hit Sedin with his Elbow!! LOL
Kadri got right back up tho, give him credit! lol ouch!
You can tell her wasn’t trying to elbow Sedin. He went in elbow tucked then “exploded” into Sedin. The explosion missed and ultimate he became untucked into Kadri’s face haha
would have been better if that through the legs shot from squidin sister went in! lol
On playing on the 4th line – “It’s about winning games, really. This formula is working”
And that quote is from none other than Mr. Dany Douchebag
7.5 million for a 20 point pace? Yeah, that formula would work for me too.
and he still has one or 2 years left on the contract that he signed with Ottawa before he left
funny how things work out
the habs are gonna run P.K out off town the way they treat him. what does everyone think the management over there is trying to due save a couple $ in saying they want him to be better
I see him going to arbitration looking for a 1 or 2 year deal so that he can hit UFA early and get paid.
he should see the light and sign with ottawa. but i feel P.K is going to bide his time and sign in toronto
Toronto lol not as long as they stay at the cap like that no worries there lol
ya that’s what I was thinking to.
need some help from the penguins tonight!!! rangers two pts back of sens
Feels a little early for scoreboard watching but the stats suggest that getting into an early hole can be disastrous for a team.
feel this season, especially in the eastern conference due to the 1 extra team you have to be scoreboard watching. rangers seem to have a complete step on the penguins today, fleury has been crap.
but the rangers are in a very bad goal differential hole.
still, sens have to go on a streak now, otherwise they will be swimming with the buffaloes.
just saw this earlier. Interesting to have a look:
lol a garbage pick I bet he is eating those words right now lol
Wow Don, that’s a bad write up when you look at it now. I bet he is eating his words. I just tweeted him that story, let’s see what he says.
5-0 Sens tomorrow
Suck it Phaneuf
Is it fair to say that tonight’s match-up with the Habs, is one of the most critical of the season so far? A big statement win may be the turning point the Sens have been looking for. It’ll help build momentum, solidify some chemistry with the lines, while they continue to gain ground in the standings.
Not interested in seeing the Sens drop the gloves at all tonight. I’d rather see them hit the Habs where it hurts the most, on the score board. If the Sens do that, the Habs will likely retaliate and we’ll see exactly what we saw in the playoffs.
As for the game itself, no prediction tonight, besides I think Lehner will have another big game. I hope the Habs play Price, and not a backup. And for what it’s worth stat wise, the Sens need to score 1st!!
Looking forward to puck drop at 7pm. Go Sens Go!!!
Is there something wrong that I can’t see new posts on the system. The latest still shows the Sens – Blue Jackets highlights….
Anyone else having issues?
