Lehner Leads Senators to Shootout Victory- Highlights

  • Skeleton

New Jersey can make any game boring and then you look and see that they still made The Lehner make 32 saves.

Any win is a good win right now and I’m all for trying to make Anaheim’s pick as bad as possible, but at the same time it sucks to see the Leafs pick get better. Oh well, the Leafs won’t know who to draft so I guess I’m happy with every win possible right now! Can’t wait chirp Leaf fans at the game tomorrow night.

    • The Apostle

Jersey have the fewest shots per game of anyone in the league and we still gave up 39. A strategy the Sens seem to have is to allow lots of shots but to keep them to the outside thus reducing the number of good scoring chances. last year it worked, this year not so much.

The amount of 2 on 1s or 3 on 2s we give up is startling.

    • FistsofNeil25

It doesn’t matter what pick the Leafs get. They’ll find a way to screw it up or they’ll probably just trade it. They’re terrible and scouting and drafting. They only have a handful of their own drafted guys playing for them. Rielly, Kadri, Kulemin, Gunnarson, Reimer.

      • Zelle

And they’ve pretty much run Reimer out of town. People think Sens fans are tough on Spezza. Reimer is a hell of a guy to put up with what he has this season.

      • Jonny

Yep dosnt really matter what Leafs do. Finishing ahead of a losing team is no consolation. Especially IF they beat us Saturday.

    • Phil.

I for one will enjoy the Sens finishing ahead of the Leafs, especially after Lewinske’s “planning the parade” comments and Leafs fan attitude when they were in the playoffs race.

    • wild bill

Is greening still on vacation pay? Does anyone know why this guy plays 15 plus minutes a night. Whatever line he and Neil are on usually get absolutely destroyed in possession, shots for and against etc. I just hope next year we use our assets more deliberately. Hoffman is ready. We have stone , Pageau, da Costa and maybe puempel is ready not too mention a few more.I’m not trying to bash Neil at least he does what he is paid for, but my god what does greening do. No hockey sense and not much skill to make up for that.

  • OverMind

so what happened to Zibinejad? heard he was rushed to the hospital?

    • Phil.

“I have no idea what it’s all about, but it was for purely precautionary reasons that we couldn’t do stuff here that they could do there,” Senators coach Paul MacLean said.

  • SensChirp

Still no update on Zibanejad this morning. Really strange the way the Senators are handling this injury.

    • Steve

      Concussion?

    • FistsofNeil25

I hope whatever happened that it isn’t serious. He’s starting to turn into a hell of a player.

    • Zelle

I was reading that with regards to Zbad and his concussion history the Senators are very hush hush for some reason.

      • Jonny

Its concussion symptoms. No point in dancing around the subject.

    • Doc

      Steve Lloyd ‏@TSNSteveLloyd 2m

Maclean is mum on Zibanejad, but he’s out for weekend/season for precautionary reasons. #Sens

      Steve Lloyd ‏@TSNSteveLloyd 1m

Maclean denies some twitter reports that Zibanejad collapsed. “That is false”.

      • Zelle

        Thanks for the update!

  • Dirtysweetness

Lehner looked great last night…I wonder if the reigns will be handed over to him next season?

    • The Apostle

I still favour another year of him backing up Anderson.

      • karlssens

He won’t be in favour of that himself.

        • Hax

Do you know him? Does he call you at home?

Getting a bit tired of people assigning opinions on behalf of players.

The only thing I’ve seen this season from Lehner himself is quotes about how he’s learning how to be a pro and not to be so selfish etc. Give the guy some credit will you?

          • Doc

Yeah, and besides the few usual culprits, a few ‘new’ faces have emerged that seem to know every details about the team.

We sure are lucky to have them around!

      • FistsofNeil25

I’m still torn on that. While I don’t really think Lehner is ready to be a full-time starter, Andy has really disappointed me this season. There were a lot of nights where he just looked like he was lacking focus or just looked totally disinterested. Knowing Andy’s history he will have a bounce back year next season. He usually follows up a bad season with a great one.

On the other hand, I don’t know if Lehner is going to get any better unless he plays more. There were too many long stretches of the season this year where Lehner was just glued to the bench, and obviously when his number was called, he dropped the ball.

I don’t really know what direction the team should take.

      • Zelle

I would rather have Lehner as the starter at this point even if he struggles a bit to begin with and Sens don’t get into the playoffs. In the long term I think it would be better for his development than sitting on the bench. And I am fairly certain Andy has no interest in being #1A.

      • Jonny

Trade Andy at the deadline, he is no longer required.
Or even better at the draft!

        • The Apostle

Don’t disagree with the deadline approach. For me Lehner hasn’t done enough to hand him the keys. However, he should be given the opportunity to prove that he deserves to be the #1. This year I think we went in with Anderson being an undisputed #1, this year the line is a lot more Robin Thicke.

    • Phil.

My prediction is that the sens will start the season with Anderson-Lehner and Anderson will be traded at the trade deadline.

  • FistsofNeil25

Last night was the best we’ve seen Lehner play in a long time. He made some big saves throughout the night but what was so great about his game was how calm and relaxed he looked. He looked so confident and comfortable in the crease. I know he’s been playing better of late but before last night he still looked a little shaky in his most recent performances. He’s definitely starting to get a lot more comfortable in shootouts as well.

  • PraiseAlfie11

    Off the wall thought:
Keep the team as-is. Sign the entire 1st line, Ryan. Add a top 4 defenseman. Hire Larry Robinson as defensive coach.

Done. 20 game trial next year and see if they deliver. If they don’t, Robinson becomes coach.

Not sure he still lives there, but he is from Hudson and has family there.

    • FistsofNeil25

Robinson is working as an assistant in San Jose right now. Also, where do you think the money is going to come from to sign all those guys and add a top four defenceman. We’re on the brink of bankruptcy man,

      • PraiseAlfie11

No, we aren’t. Don’t be so dire.

        • FistsofNeil25

Well when the organization stops crying poor and complaining about losing millions and millions of dollars each season then I will stop being so dire.

          • PraiseAlfie11

Hard to get city concessions when you’re rich, right?

            It’s a show.

          • FistsofNeil25

Well then it’s a show that’s hurting our hockey team’s ability to compete at the highest level. If this whole internal budget thing is just part of the show then Melnyk is a bigger joke than I already thought he was.

          • PraiseAlfie11

Ok, tell ya what. If there’s a firesale, you’re right. If they sign the core, you’ll agree there was no sense blowing your wallet when the youth is still 2 years away and you’re rebuilding by internal development?

          • FistsofNeil25

It’s one thing to not spend if your plan is internal development and they’re biding their time waiting for the right moment.

It’s a totally different think to cry broke pretty much every opportunity you have. It’s another thing that you limit you GM’s ability to improve your hockey club because every deal has to be money-in and money-out. It’s another thing to let the heart and soul of your hockey club and undisputed leader walk away and treat him like shit because of a couple million dollars that you don’t want to pay him, despite operating well below the cap.

          • PraiseAlfie11

But, we are developing from within?

We don’t know what really happened with Alfie. It could be argued it really was a personal decision over how it was handled? At best, they tried to be cheap and it backfired?

          • Jonny

And what about the terrible coaching job this year?

          • s3nsfan

You do realize that Colorado and Ottawa have the EXACT same salary cap amount and Ottawa actually sits 4,000,000 higher than Colorado in actual salary. And colorado is where again in the standings? Right they’re sitting with 111pts in the Western conference.

          • FistsofNeil25

You do realize that Colorado is an extremely rare case right? They have a bunch of top end talent currently on dirt cheap contracts.

            Duchene 2013/2014 – $3 500 000
            Duchene 2015/2015 – $6 000 000

            Landeskog 2013/2014 – $925 00
            Landeskog 2015/2015 -$5 571 429

            Varlamov 2013/2014 – $2 833 333
            Varlamov 2015/2015 – $5 900 000

Add to that, O’Reilly is a RFA and Stastny is a UFA, Mackinnon is already a world class player in his rookie year on an entry level contract, and Tyson Barrie is a RFA coming off a career year.

You can’t even compare Ottawa to Colorado’s salary situation. When Patrick Roy was named head coach, he wanted a promise from ownership that they would open up their wallets to build a winning hockey team. We don’t have that commitment from ownership, and we don’t have the kind of top end young talent that they do. The days of Colorado being a low spending team are quickly coming to an end.

          • s3nsfan75

You can argue all you want about it being a rare case but fact is, they are pushing close to the presidents trophy on one of the lowest payrolls in the league. Nor does spending a ton of money get you any results,
Of the top 15 teams with the highest payroll
            1. Washington – out of playoffs
            10. Toronto – out of playoffs
            14. Winnipeg – out of playoffs
            15. Carolina – out of playoffs

There is no “amount” that will guarantee success. Just being the sens aren’t busting out their wallets doesn’t mean they can’t have success with a lower than the limit salary cap / salary.
Previous two years the sens were 25, 26th in salary spending.

Being the second youngest team in the leauge, why does everyone want the salary cap / salary to be even higher, a good portion of the contracts are limited to a certain amount. Everyone wants the sens to let the young guys develop, but at the same time spend the max. How do you suppose they do that, it’s an oxymoron, ELC’s are only allowed to be so much money and you only have so many roster spots to fill with HIGH end salaries.

          • FistsofNeil25

Oh come on man. So Colorado is the one playoff team that has a low payroll. So what? What about the other 15 teams in the playoffs right now that do spend near the cap? Did you forget about them?

You listed four teams that missed the playoffs while being in the top 15 in spending, but what about the 11 other teams that made the playoffs? There were 8 teams this season that didn’t spend to within three million of the cap, Colorado was the only one to make the playoffs.

Of course spending to the cap doesn’t guarantee success or even a playoff spot. There are on 16 playoff spots and only one team can win the cup each year. You can’t tell me that spending to the salary cap doesn’t improve your odds of being competitive making the playoffs, and winning the Stanley cup

          • Senatollah

Money in money out really means don’t trade ELC or first contract players (which is good portion of team with value) for an older/higher risk type player with a poor contract, see Clarkson, Wiess, etc.
the GM has to find the right deal in the first place, and really only going to happen by trade for someone with good term/value on their contract (i.e. the types of guys teams other than the Islanders wont trade). Have a look at this years free agent list, uggh. Want a GM to OVERPAY so the better players in the organization cant develop because the roster spot is taken by someone you cant move (kinda like how the sens were stuck with MM09 for 3/4s of this season)

          • spezzerman

its all hearsay from the blogging community and fans on twitter until we see the real deal this summer. No reason to believe that the budget wasnt tied to a three year rebuild. Alfie was offered what Selanne made which seems like a fair starting point to me. Detroit just used the new 3 day period and made a compelling case and Ottawa took his interest in staying for granted. Alfie left, life goes on.

Only 20 players in NHL history have made more money than Alfie and that is thanks to the Ottawa Senators. He made a choice that was within his right (and he was right, BTW) that the fans couldnt handle emotionally and needed a scapegoat. Ownership is an easy target.

Again, this summer will tell us how much they are willing to spend. And remember, we landed the best UFA available last summer thanks to big brains, not big wallets. Spending on UFA’s is a fools game the majority of the time.

          • FistsofNeil25

Yeah I’m definitely not talking about spending big on UFA’s. I’m more concerned about being able to retain our own players or being able to make trades without them having to be money in and money out.

People who say that the Sens aren’t having significant financial difficulty are forgetting the fact that the league had to step in last season and help pay for some team expenses and so on and so forth.

A lot of people seem to expect that because of the new TV contract, Melnyk is all of a sudden going to pour money into the team again and re-sign Michalek and Hemsky and extend the likes of Ryan, Spezza and Methot, all while adding a top four defenseman. It’s crazy.

          • spezzerman

Was that a “fact,” or hearsay?

Again, this summer will tell us what’s what.

          • bishbosh

are you asking whether the league had to step in is fact or hearsay.
It’s a fact – had it confirmed to me by somebody who worked in the Sens accounting team.
On the plus side, that in itself, its’t unusual. It happened to at least 2 other teams last year too.

          • spezzerman

they have said revenues were up earlier this season. If they are crying poor, they arent very good at it.

          • peetypuck

That’s right. In the shortened season last year they had revenues of $83 million for 24 home games. That works out to about $3.5 million per game. Multiply that by the normal 41 home games and it’s hard to believe that Melnyk is being truthful. Now add on $35-40 million in new broadcast revenues.

          • spezzerman

I should have been more specific. They said ticket sale revenues were up despite the fans turning out in smaller numbers.

      • EHMatt

It will come from the $40 million we’ll be getting in TV rights money starting next year and for the next 12 years.

    • 010101111101111111111

So – you won the billion dollar Warren Buffet NCAA pool and bought the team ?

Stupid local reporters – always miss the breaking news.

    • Sandy

I was thinking the same thing. Since Hemsky has come to the team.. Spezza’s line has been a threat… to go along with Turris line.. IF you can keep all of them for next season.. or at least Spezza and Hemsky. If Michalek will sign a 1 or 2 yr deal for about 3-3.5M then you keep him… If not, move Hoffman to that line..
      Hemsky-Spezza-Michalek/Hoffman
      Ryan-Turris-McArthur
      Stone-Zibby-Lazar/Hoffman
      Condra-Smith-Neil
They definitely need to tweak the defense. Bryan Murray, either was forced into Corvo, or overestimated how the young defensemen would do this season. They put Cowen in a spot he was not ready for. He did pretty well when playing with Gonchar because he had a good veteran that was there to cover up his mistakes. But they put Cowen with Karlsson.. who both have had defensive issues.
McLean didn’t have a lot of choice on the defense.. with only Methot & Phillips as the vets. That goes back to the budget.
Melnyk had better put the money up to sign Ryan. If he leaves because Melnyk will not pay him.. then it’s time to get a City wide petition out to let him know how sick and tired we are of him as Owner..

  • Phil.

Just noticed that as it stands today, the only Canadian team ahead of the Sens is MTL. I will be for sure cheering for MTL… to lose. I hate them. I am not so secretly hoping that TB gets home ice.

    • PraiseAlfie11

      We’re number 1!

      Lol

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Any one see Bobbys comments? “they know I want to be here and im comitted to the team and their future” Make this guy the captain now! and sign him now!

    • FistsofNeil25

      Where do you see this?

      • Moudy Mahfouz
      • Moudy Mahfouz

Honestly man, that made me smile about the whole season. At least he really wants to be here!

        • FistsofNeil25

My favorite part is when he said he wants to get contract talks started as soon as possible. If they can get him re-signed I’ll be pretty pumped. If he had been healthy all season he easily would have hit 30+ goals.

          • Moudy Mahfouz

He is a beauty man and becoming my fav hockey player. WHEN he resigns I am buying a Bobby jersey asap

          • FistsofNeil25

Don’t go out and buy it asap! If Michalek isn’t re-signed I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bobby go back to #9. It would suck to buy a #6 jersey only to have him switch numbers.

          • Moudy Mahfouz

            Good looking out hahah

          • FBP

Well now I have to wait.

          • WaitingSince92

Just take off the number and turn it upside down – easy fix!

          • FBP

            Me too!

    • Zelle

Yeah! I knew he wanted to be here. This is what I expected from Spezza if he wanted to stay here. Although I’m a huge Turris fan I would be happy to see Bobby as the captain and the face of the franchise. Turris, Karlsson, or Bobby would be fine by me if Spezza chooses to step down.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

I feel like Turris Mac Ryan built something special that makes them all wanna play with eachother.

        • Zelle

Yes I could see the halls painted with Turris – Mac – Ryan – Zbad – Karlsson – Lehner ! Maybe even Stone?

        • runningbear1974

Anyone who plays hockey knows there are some people who are fun to play with, and others that are a chore to play with… Clearly, everyone love Turris…

    • John Q. Spartan

That’s great… now how much money does he want?

      • s3nsfan

Well, maybe I’m alone in thinking that, but maybe it will be somewhat of a steal, considering luckily, he was injured and he didn’t have usual career numbers. say 6 or 7 years @ 6Million . I’m no GM and my numbers could be skewed to make if more favourable for the sens but that is what i would hope he would sign at.

        • John Q. Spartan

          Hopefully.

        • peetypuck

Let’s just get him signed. Players like Bobby Ryan don’t come around that often. It’s guys like him and EK65 that put fans in the seats. They more than pay their own way.

        • Jonny

Well the cap will go up, Melnyk wil have to send a bit more.

      • FBP

His cap hit probably won’t end up mattering to us.

    • Jonny

Haha make him Captain… I love the guy but dont burden him with Captaincy. Greening also loves to be here and Condra, wanna make the Captain too?

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

You sure are a pleasant one eh?

        • Jonny

Well apparently I’m Tookie so I have to embody the dude.
Would you really want Bobby as Captain?
I said I loved the guy, but wouldnt make him Captain.
          Whats wrong with that?

          • Doc

            Your shitty attitude, for one.

      • Frank

        You’re a cock

    • runningbear1974

This makes me so happy… Bobby Ryan reflects the hockey values that I have… Sign him up, and yes pay him, and yes make him captain too… But, I think Turris is better idea for Captain…

  • Floridasensfan

Karlsson with the shoot out winner, love it, Lehner was on his game.
hope we blow out the Smurfs Saturday night, it is their last game and it puts the nails in the coffin to being under us in the standings.

    • FistsofNeil25

I thought the Smurfs were the Habs?

      • Floridasensfan

Well they are Blue like the smurfs, guess the Habs are smurfs because they are small.

Either way want to see Ottawa Dominate the Laughs for the last game, kind of payback for them taking it to us earlier in the season

        • Jonny

You would be happy with a 1-3 record vs them?

          • boom

            Where did he say that?

Do you work at being a dick, or were you born that way?

          • Doc

Tookie had to change handles again? Poor kid.

          • Jonny

Well he did say winning the game would be payback for the 3 previous losses. I’m just surprised at how many fans are content with mediocrity.

        • peetypuck

I think the Leafs are more like evil munchkins.

  • Zelle

Soft coaching.. “We didn’t want to get too excited and we didn’t want to get too hard on
individuals because winning is what it’s all about,” he said before the
    11th loss in 13 games on Thursday night. “A win’s a win, you’re not
    going to critique it.”

What if the team won despite making a bunch of mistakes, shouldn’t you criticize those mistakes?

  • SensChirp

Not exactly sure what the issue is with Mika Zibanejad but I was told that it is not concussion related. So that’s good news.
Sounds like he’ll be held out of the weekend games.

    • Sandy

I was worried it was a concussion issue.. Certainly glad it isn’t.
I’m sure we will find out on Monday/Tuesday what all of the ailments are/were..
Glad to hear what Bobby Ryan had to say.. I was worried giving up so much for him to have him walk in 2 yrs… They need him signed to the 8 yr deal… go long or go home.. average cap hit of 6-7M…

      • Zelle

I say offer him what he wants really. Playing with a hernia and still back checks, fore checks, shoots, and takes the hits to make the pass. His production wasn’t up there but he was doing everything right on the ice.

        • WaitingSince92

Yeah, gotta love the superstar who takes hits to make the play. Usually comes out with the puck too!

          • s3nsfan75

Yeah, i have to say, i hadn’t seen much of him, other than the highlight spectacular goals he scored, but after watching him, seeing his forecheck, his back check, his ability to make plays while under pressure and taking hits, really surprised me. Lo and behold, I’m probably not the only one, even more impressed at his game all the while having a sports hernia.
            Get that man an extension.

  • Sandy

    Couple of interesting tidbits:

Canadian Business magazine ranked Melnyk 77th with a net worth of $1 billion on its 2014 list of Canada’s 100 wealthiest people.

    So how broke is he?

I also liked this comments by Lehner…

Speaking from the Senators room, Lehner – who would later give Jagr nightmares by stoning him on numerous chances – said he doesn’t think a lot needs to be done, after the lessons learned this season, including his own. He thought he could compete for the No. 1 job, and called it his “mistake” that he didn’t realize he needed a year as apprentice to Craig Anderson. “I went in with too much expectations and got a little bit disappointed when I didn’t get it and that’s my fault,” Lehner said. “I went through it and I learned from it.
That’s all about being mature and growing and getting older. “Emotion controls your game and if you’re not emotionally stable it’s tough to stop the puck.”
Around the region, there has been plenty of grumbling about the Senators, with more to come. Lehner, though, thinks “there’s a little more of a panic button than there should be,” reminding everyone that this young team is “still in a rebuild.” “We have a lot of character guys,” Lehner said. “We have a good core. “If you’re part of it you’re part of it, if not you have to move on.”

    • Doc

      Gotta love the kid!

    • bishbosh

But but but that doesn’t jive with what karlssens was saying earlier in this thread.

      Lehner must be lying!

Interested to see what happens on D for next year.

We’ve had bad luck assuming a player will develop into a top 4 D (ie Cowen’s been awful, Wiercioch has been OK and Gryba has been OK as a third pairing). Beyond our first pair of Karlsson/Methot we have Ceci, Phillips, Cowen, Gryba, Wiercioch and Borowiecki.

Maybe Ceci can hack top 4, although we’ve been burned assuming such player progression would happen this year. Cowen with a regular off-season/training camp might be able to turn his game around. Again, tough to assume this will happen.

Even if we pencil 2 and 5 in as a second pair (risky), we have Phillips, Borowiecki, Wiercioch and Gryba for our third “pair”.

Even if we carry and extra D, we still have ourselves a problem. Something’s gotta give.

    • WaitingSince92

In terms of a trade, I’d say Ceci, Karlsson, Methot (and probably Cowen – he’s young and I think he gets a second chance) aren’t going anywhere, but I could see there being interest in Phillips (NTC though) and Wiercioch, maybe Gryba too.

      • Phil.

Phillips was just extended. Can’t see him being traded.

        • WaitingSince92

Me neither, but it’s happened before. And he’s had some pretty embarrassing moments this year.

    • runningbear1974

I personally don’t blame the defense this year… We knew we were going with a young d core… The problem is with the forwards, they were supposed to be veterans and support the d, but instead they were pretty unreliable…

It was a nice treat last night for those of the fans that went to Chek Point or the concessions.. when Canadian Tire picked up the tab for your food… Sorry those at Bert’s .. didn’t apply to you.

      Wow that’s awesome

  • A-Train

Wow, Mendes exposes the flaws in Spezza-hating logic better than I could ever hope to.

    Please read: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=449009

    • whammer44

Mendes is one of the most thoughtful and objective media guys in the city.

The only discussion about Spezza should start with whether he wants to be here or not. From there it should be about money and term. If neither of those two things are a match then the discussion should move to trade talk.

None of this has anything to do with his ability to be the captain. Its the most overblown issue in all of hockey.

    • Millennium

Beyond the Spezza-specific defense, it’s also a good argument against overvaluing “leadership” as the reason why a team succeeds or fails. Good teams succeed, regardless of captain. Bad teams fail, regardless of captain.

      • Doc

        FIRE SPEZZA!!1 TRADE MACLEAN!!

        • Millennium

If you could convince me those moves would make us a better team, I’d consider it. But I can’t imagine a scenario in which moving either is not a step back for the team. Both had a rough year, but neither one is the reason we missed the playoffs.

          • Doc

I hope you know it was tongue-in-cheek. ;)

          • Phil.

            i think you mean cheek-in-tongue.

      • Shibal

I thought the Ladd comparison was very flawed. Ladd already went into a bad team in the first place – The Atlanta thrashers. Jason Spezza was part of a team that was supposedly stacked in talent this year, I mean statistically Bobby Ryan has been better than Alfredsson in recent years. Also Andrew Ladd is not in any way as talented as Spezza, so the expectations has never been high on him as it is has been on Spezza. The fact is: Spezza and the team have got it done offensively this year, but because of the atrocious defence they did not make the playoffs, Spezza along with the defence should be accountable for that. Spezza has always been lazy on the back check, even yesterday’s goal that Jersey scored, Spezza was the last skater to make it back to Robin Lehner’s crease.

        • A-Train

See…that’s the point. “Spezza was the last skater back” becomes a damning indictment of him as a player and a captain. Personally I think the Spezza haters say more about the cultural mindset / values of the Ottawa area than they do about the player.

    • runningbear1974

That’s not correct… This article is saying that Spezza is not to blame for the way the rest of the team is playing, therefore he also doesn’t deserve credit if the team is playing well… He is still responsible for his own play which one either loves or hates…

      • Millennium

It addresses the newer dynamic of hating Spezza based on his captaincy, and how apparently “we can’t win with him as captain”. It doesn’t really get into the issue of Spezza as a player. They are different issues really.

        • runningbear1974

Also says that doesn’t matter what the captain does with respect to the behaviour of the team… So, seems like it really doesn’t matter who the captain is really…

          • A-Train

            Yes, you are getting it.

          • runningbear1974

right… I think some hockey minds actually believe that the captain, and leadership actually has an influence on the quality of team…

  • Chris

I know many people might not like this, some might, but here is a roster that i created on cap geek that i think would be a solid team that could do alot of damage. I know its not realistic at all, but worth a shot.

    http://www.capgeek.com/armchair-gm/roster/8907

    • Deadly

      “Not realistic”

      • Chris

i just dont think we could get all this done in one off season.

        • Deadly

Come on Chris.Call Melnyk, get Brian’s job and go for it.

    • FistsofNeil25

I fail to see how Palat-Ennis-Vrbata is better than Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky, or how Gustavsson is better than Lehner, or how Jack Johnson and Nick Shultz make the Sens a better defensive hockey team.

How do we acquire all these players in your scenario?

      • Chris

        Michalek has 17g 22a 39p / Palat has 22g 36a 58p

        Hemsky has 13g 29a 42p / Vrbata 20g 30a 50p

        Spezza has 22g 43a 65p / Ennis 21g 22a 43p

Dont forget that Palat is 21 years old is a pure goal scorer that could be a star soon, and Ennis is young and could be solid second line centre behind turris. Vrbata in my opinion is a better all around player than hemsky, even though i love hemskys play. Gustavsson a great goalie, and i think jack johnsson and nick shultz, and matt niskanen are better than Gryba and Phillips. this is my opinion, its oviously going to be differnt than yours.

Seems completely ridiculous. Armchair GM is an appropriate title.

A for effort…..A for insanity…..F for likelihood and finally F for end result….I honestly think this lineup would be potentially worse than this years team

Saw this article on puempel on nhl.com and I thought it was very interesting.

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=714047&navid=nhl:topheads

will be interesting in a few years when him and some other young guys have developed.

    • Shibal

He has always been the long and forgotten top prospect in this organization. I’m really glad they chose to keep Puempel over Noesen.

    • boom

Thanks, alot of good stuff in there…

    • SensFanInMTL

Don’t know if it’ll take years for him to make it, but I know what you meant.

  • timwrx

A win tonight w/Norfolk losing and the B-Sens punch their playoff ticket!

    • Deadly

You must be looking forward to the playoffs with a lot of anticipation.

  • Jerry

Amazing game from Lehner, can’t wait till useless MacLean rewards him with the bench and plays Anderson vs. The Leafs.

    • Sandy

Since it’s back to back Leafs & Pens.. both are going to play.
Andy starts against the Leafs.. so that leaves Lehner vs the Pens. I prefer the other way around.. but it is what it is…
Even if the Sens lose to the Leafs tomorrow.. (I hate going to a Leafs game when the Sens lose and it happens all of the freakin’ time)… they win against the Pens on Sunday.. (who I assume will rest most of their starters).. then the Sens still finish ahead of the Leafs.. and that’s all that matters now.
It’s going to hurt the Sens to not have Zibby in the lineup… but it’s something they have to try to get over..

  • Simple Jack

I will not cheer for the canadians.

Blue Jackets losing to Tampa who has Kristers Gudlevskis in net… Haven’t seen the entire game.. but what I have seen.. he looks pretty good. Tampa up 3-1..

  • SensFanInMTL

Saw the Bobby Ryan interview with Gord Wilson. Very encouraging to hear him say he is committed to staying here. As great as Alfie was, how good has this team been since Alfie leaving, on paper anyway? I never thought of having two 1st rounders in Ryan & Hemsky as part of the lineup. I’d like a few things tweaked making us an elite team for next season.

  • Shibal

Matt Puempel scored his 29th today. I think he will become the first ever sens prospect to score 30 goals in his AHL rookie season.

    • Daybreak Maidenhead

      Down in the pleasure centre,
      hell bent or heaven sent,
      listen to the propaganda,
      listen to the latest slander.
      There’s nothing underhand
      that she wouldn’t understand.

PUEMP it up until you can feel it.

PEUMP it up when you don’t really need it.

  • Andrews theory

This Zibanejad business is concerning to say the least.

Puempel sounds like he’s got the right attitude to make the transition but a couple seasons in bingo will likely go a long way towards determining his ceiling.

Great to see him lighting the lamp
