Canucks vs. Senators- Highlights

  • Chris

Anderson better start playing like a number one goalie, because hes been absolute shit all year. I don’t understand why Mac started him yesterday. Starting to question the coaches decisions..

  • SensChirp

Starting the same guy in a back to back is almost always a mistake, as I learned last night. Because MacLean did it with Lehner over the weekend he felt like he had to do it with Anderson this time.

Coach put his team at a disadvantage on both occasions.

Time is right to run with Lehner for a little bit. Just not in back to back.

  • Hax

So I guess we’re back to panic mode?

    • hq8

the only time we momentarily left it was when the buzzer sounded in the caps game. otherwise, its been a constant.

    • Sicilian

I think we have to go on a 10 game win streak and then play slightly over .500 for the rest of the year to make it now. Just a guess…
My panic mode started weeks ago

    • Tooks

Nah I guess we can wait a bit more, like 10 more games where we lose 7 of 10 and then say, well after the olympic break they’ll get it going…

  • Sens-fan-in-mtl

Agreed, Andy has not been great. What was with all the flopping and faking injury yesterday – that was the most troubling sign – he clearly is not himself.

Should be an easy call to make, sit him for a while and let him get his head straight.

    • hq8

lol if you look at the irony, that kind of stuff is more luongo-esque, who was on the other end!

    • Sicilian

      Agreed, that was messed up

      • hq8

the best part was Gryba trying to sell it too after he himself was the one who nicked andy hahaha

  • FBP

    Nice picture.

  • hq8

    sooooo……..shoulda kept the bishop eh
conacher…..underwhelming….i think Mika would have to DJ at every club in Ottawa and Gatineau to lose that top 6 spot now. all contenders have been extinguished, Greening, Pageau, SDC, Conacher now at best is 3rd line and probably will be packaged because there are better bigger options in Bingo.
    what a mess……

    • Sens-fan-in-mtl

we’ll see about Bishop, look what everyone was saying about Elliott not so long ago – until the playoffs. I have the feeling we might see somewhat of the same thing. Bishop is good (better than Elliott for sure), but I don’t believe he is as good as his current numbers suggest.

      • aegiszx

Elliot is good, because he plays in a good system. You put ANY goaltender in that kind of defensive system, and they’re going to inflate the stats. You think Brodeur, where Jersey has built the entire franchise around protecting him, would be as successful in Ottawa?

Just look at Nucks last night, they’ve been a 2-1, 1-0 team all year, first time scoring more than 2 goals… in Torts system… Same system that was used in NY… where Lundqvist is now struggling under Vigneaults more offensive minded system.

        • hq8

yes and tampa doesnt have much to write home about on the defensive side of things…..Hedman, Salo….Brewer….they dont have any super-freak defensive centreman on their roster either.
what i do remember is that Bishop was peaking and settling in Ottawa last season. and he was performing well.
it would have been unfair to Andy to ship him while he was on IR. but its a tough business. Sens had a dandy and now they have two duds.

          • 65kwhissell19

1 dud…. lehner is better than bishop

          • aegiszx

I dont want to say Lehner is a star yet, he’s still very much unproven. Look at what the Habs have done to Price, Pens to Fleury, etc. It’s very hard for a young goalie to come in and carry a team… it has to be a team sport, and no one guy is going to do it all.

          • 65kwhissell19

agreed never said lehner is gonna un with the ball. just saying lehner is a better goalie then bishop

          • Tooks

Price is one of the best goalies in the NHL, he has that pedigree, Fleury won a Cup (where he was instrumental). Not very good examples.

          • aegiszx

Price isn’t even top 10, let alone top 5. No doubt hes a good goalie, but one of the best? Hardly. Fleury was great when he came into the league, but now? Hows that sports psychologist working out for him, 25 games in, and hes still shitting the bed. They were lucky that Fleury was hot at the right time, young, hungry, and unproven and led by superstars in Sid/Geno.

          • Tooks

Umm Price is 5th in the NHL in GAA at 2.00 with a .936SV%, you sure you wanna argue that?

Yes Fleury has been struggling the last few years but he’s bounced back quite well with a 2.16GAa and .915SV% this year.

Both goalies are in the top 10 in GAA and Price in SV%…

          • aegiszx

Scrivens is atop the league right now… VEZINA CALIBRE!?

It’s 25 games in. Talk to me when the season is over. Man the season is just getting started, we’re not even at the mid-way point yet lol. Heck Luongo, a slow starter, usually doesnt start heating up till mid-way point!

          • Tooks

Come on man your being very stupid now…Scrivens is a back up, playing lights out no doubt but of the starting goalies (20 games or 1,000 Minutes played), YES Price and Fleury are top 10 easily. They are Vezina caliber goaltenders.

          • hq8

            conman was 2nd dud.

          • Tooks

Lehner is no dud? .940SV% 2.38GAA. He’s one of the few bright spots we have left.

      • hq8

but i guess you do believe in tampa’s record this season and that Bishop has 14 out of their 16 wins?

  • Joe

I strongly feel that we, as Sens fan, have been spoiled by an over-achieving Senators team for the last few seasons. Personally, I feel that we are a fringe playoff team at best (8th to 10th in the conference). Lets all try to keep a level head about how our team performs. In a few years, we’ll be playing to our potential and we won’t be having these annoying conversations about trading away our star players for a quick fix.

Anyway, maybe if the majority of the fans/media started lowering their expectations of the Sens, there would be a lot less negativity towards the team when they actually do throw up a couple bad games. Who knows, a lot of our players are young and might have performance issues due to the immense pressure (even Spezza). Anyway, things always seem to work out in our favor when we accept the fact that the Sens aren’t as amazing as we thought they were going to be (like the last two seasons).

I’m still a big Anderson and Lehner fan. I’m totally against trading Anderson. As with all professionals, they can slump at any time. From what I witnessed last year, he is a very capable goaltender at a bargain price point. Lets all be happy that we have him on our team. We have one of the best one-two’s in the league despite some poor play. Besides, Anderson is more than capable of regaining his “lights-out” form at anytime (yes, I feel that he’s that good).

So, for those Lehner supporters, what the heck happens if we get blown-out by the wings on sunday with Lehner in nets?? It’s as much of a possibility that Lehner throws up a stinker than it is for Anderson to play a “lights-out”, stand on your head type of game.

    • aegiszx

We could be worse guys, we could be the Ottawa RedBlacks (<<< wtf lol). The team is still growing, but we have a really bright future. I just hope we don't become the Sharks 2.0, Canucks or Caps (exciting regular season teams, that bring in tons of revenue, but choke in the playoffs)…

      • Senators Pundit

Not sure how long you’ve been following, but we’ve been that team.

    • 65kwhissell19

Anderson had never been the guy to put up good numbers every year. look at his stats you see it there. problem is its lehner first full nhl season and to push him to be the number 1 guy might not be the best thing for him. sens management no this. so they got 2 choses eather ride lehner and hope it doesn’t hurt his pot to be a great goalie. or move on and stay on track with the rebuild. we have pieces that will not fit with Ottawa when players like ceci, lazar, prince, Hoffman, pageau, and stone ext come in for full nhl spots. Phillips,mm9,corvo,greening,condra,gryba,conachor ext can all be moved if murry wants to build on our cup bored or do turris like trade. most likely players lik spezza or ryan are gonna want to run the waves with a rebuild. lets face it if the team is this bad adding a top 6 to replace mm9. and a to4 dman wont make much off a difference. see what happens

      • 65kwhissell19

id only hope ryan and spezza would want to sign iff not wow big step back words

    • Tooks

Yes Lehner might lose but his stats indicate they are not blowouts, Lehner gives us the best chance to win. Anderson we might aswell start the game 2-0 or 3-0…

      • Joe

That’s true. Lehner is a gamer for sure. I’m just saying that it’s equally possible for a “Lehner stinker” than it is for a “Anderson lights-out”. I like them both so I’m happy they’re on our team.

  • Joe

Honestly, I still can’t believe we have a professional NHL team in Ottawa. Man, thing could be so much worse.

  • Alcatraz

So after a brutal opening stretch on the road we said wait till we play at home. Then it was well wait till we get through 25 games and then we will be able to evaluate

So when are we allowed to start criticizing this team and asking for more and stop relying on excuses?

    • Tooks

Ya no kidding, next stop, Olympic Break, maybe we get it going after that. Maybe not. Probably not…

    • spezzerman

Are you under the impression people have been holding back criticism?

  • Senatollah

If the Sens ever play another Saturday night game the team should arrange for DJ ZBAD to steal a kiss from Don Cherry. ZBAD plays the most “Canadian style” of all Sens forwards. Skates hard – yup, Finishes checks – yup, Shoots hard – yup, Drives the Net – yup.

    • Mexican Baby Jesus

And he is middle eastern like Kadri

  • Hax

The way this team has played one great game followed by one terrible game, it’s actually a good thing they stunk last night. Next game is “the Alfie game” so I wouldn’t want them to play well the game before since that would mean we’d stink in that game.

All part of the master plan.

    • Joe

Another great thing about our current win-loss trend, there’s great potential to rack in some mad coin through bodog. And with this mad coin, we can then afford to buy more Sens tickets and treat ourselves to some amazing and competitive Ottawa Senators action. Man, things are looking up. Love it.

  • NickofTime

Another brutal give away by Spezza last night just when the Sens were starting to fight back & get back into the game. And if that isn’t bad enough the guy just doesn’t work hard enough defensively, I could skate faster back on D than he does. He always seems to look rejected going back to the bench too at a slow skate, he needs a huge kick in the ass. BM should really consider at some point to see what he could get back for this guy, I’m tired of watching his lazy ass constantly give the puck away & kill momentum.

    • Tooks

Thats what happens when you put defensive responsabilities on an offensive star. But the real question is, where was the D? Not 1 of em close to the net or infront, Spezza should have ringed it around I agree but this shit is just plain funny now, our D are nowhere to be found.

I think Karlsson fell in the corner and Methot was ??? following someone I think…The game was out of hand anyways.

      • the dude

Methot was on the other side of the net expecting Spezza to like you said “ringed it around”, but he decided to screw his teammates and try to skate thru two opposing skaters right in front of his goalie. The D should not take any blame for that goal it was all Spezza.

      • NickofTime

Too much to expect Spezza to play a two way game? Turris plays a two way game, every player is expected to play a two way game except Spezza I guess. Our last captain played a two way game why can’t this one?

    • Joe

Yeah, Spezza is definitely the one guy I constantly find myself bitching about. We all know he’s amazing but he often makes poor decisions out there. Unfortunately, even discussing trade options for #19 is a waste of effort. He’s not going anywhere. We’ve decided that this season by giving him the “C”.

    • runningbear1974

2 issues I have with what Spezza has said recently…
      1) “We’re having hard time getting motivated for games”… I forget the exact words… My problem with this, is that he is not taking the responsibility of getting his teammates pumped up for a game…
      2) “We’re giving up the centre of the ice to easily”… Again, he’s not taking responsibility of that… He’s the worst, he likes to skate to the boards and then throw the puck in a crowd… He is not fighting for the centre of the ice, his giveaways are extra bad, because the centre ice is open because he’s not there, doing his job… He doesn’t think it’s his responsibility to protect that quality ice…

  • Joe

I don’t know, maybe the Sens need to play a different style of system. I know PMAC is all about puck possession, but it appears as though we keep giving it away in the neutral zone all the time. It could be that our players aren’t “capable enough” to play that type of puck possession game. Maybe a Tortorella style system would work better for us. It would force our boys to work at 115% with consistent pressure on the puck carrier. Force mistakes then capitalize on the odd-man rushes. Maybe even a “dump-and-chase” type of game (lame and boring though).

All I know is that we are inconsistent in providing a full 60 minute effort. Playing a style of system that relies on 115% effort to be effective might force the boys to play harder and more desperately.

Anyway, I’m a schmuck and suck at hockey. What do I know. Just a fan wishing for a bit more effort by our players.

    • sens23

the problem isnt with macleans system. when the sens gain the zone with possession they create offense. but no team in the history of hockey gains the zone with possession on every entry.

this is where the problem lies with the senators, when they are forced to dump there is absolutely no puck retrieval. how many times have fans seen “senators dump puck in, zero forecheck, opposition makes one pass and they break out”

so the sens either need to find ways to gain the zone with possession more often or get harder on the puck retrieval

      • Joe

Agreed. Which do you think is easier for our team? Puck retrieval involves less skill but more effort. If we’re trying to encourage our boys to play with effort, this system might work well for us.

  • Luc Wolfe

I hope the coaching staff will put Lehner is goal for a several games in a row. Andy is obviously having difficulties since the beginning of the season. I just think its a rough patch. but bringing him back in the net too soon is probably not ideal for him and the club.

    • Joe

So, if Lehner plays an awful game against the wings, what should we do next? Play Lehner again or go back with Anderson?

      • Luc Wolfe

yeah show a message. Call up the kid in Bingo

        • Joe

Yeah, don’t think that will ever happen. It would show that our coaching staff is clueless on how to fix the problem.

          • Luc Wolfe

they done it in the past in Mtl, now doesnt mean they must do that. by just playing Lehner, it means they are focusing on him to become #1 and he”s on the outside looking in.

        • Doc

Unless they send someone back down, they can’t. They already have a 23 man roster.

          • Tooks

Yep would have to be Cowen, Gryba or conacher or Zibanejad…Cowen or Gryba I would have no problem sending down.

          • Doc

            Agreed.

      • Tooks

No stick with Lehner, odds are he doesnt get blown out very often, unlike Anderson.

        • Joe

Each goalie is going to ride mini-hot and cold streaks at different times of the season. I can totally see this message board bitching and moaning about the Lehner/Anderson fiasco all season long. Haha

  • Luc Wolfe

Anyone wants to create a rumour, and to see tomorrow that hockey buzz will post it on his site saying that his source is creditable.

  • Alcatraz

Phoenix recalling Klesla lol Could be a trade in the works haha

    • Tooks

I dont care anymore, anything would work, I would be happy if we acquired a bag of pucks or new sticks. Anything.

      • SensChirp

Agree. Send someone out. Bring someone in. Show the locker room and the fan base that the way things have been isn’t acceptable.

        • Yukon Cornelius

          Chirp is agreeing with Tookie.
I will always remember this moment.

          • Doc

Pretty sure he took a cold shower after that comment.

          • Sens-fan-in-mtl

            is today April fool’s?!

          • Spoons

It gives a new meaning to “Black Friday”

          • Joe

            Did chirp get hacked?

        • Jacques

Come on pull the trigger on a deal Murray, the bigger the deal the better. Let’s show Bobby we care!

    • spezzerman

Given the market, I doubt there is one single player the Sens can pick up to turn things around. This young team might just have to take this season on the chin and learn from it. And fans might just need to deal with that.

      • Joe

I agree. This is what we should come to expect from our Sens this season. Lets just deal with it and hope our prospects on the farm make the big jump in the near future. A successful big jump that is.

        • Alcatraz

I’m kind of tired of “hoping” our prospects can make the jump
we have karlsson, ryan, methot, Turris in their prime. We have Lehner, Zibanejad ready to lead. Spezza the ppg vet.

We have prospects ready to go in PW46 and Cowen. No more hoping, I want it to happen now.

This doesn’t mean Stanley Cup or ECF, I just dont want what we are seeing. Complacency is not an option

          • Jacques

Come on – Hoffman-Pageau are better than Condra and Greening. Condra is so insignificant on the ice! Don’t shit on our prospects we have good ones but the current situation fucks us up, we can’t bring them up. Pageau has scored like 7 goals in 20 some career games. Condra would take him 3 years!

          • Doc

Ah, you’re a scoreboard guy. Explains a lot.

      • Tooks

It doesnt matter if it doesn or doesnt, its the change that matters, need to show that playing poorly is not going to be accepted here, the Sens org has worked hard to make this a winning culture over the years, what was our streak at 12 or 13 straight playoff appearances?? Change is a must!

        • spezzerman

I agree that change would be nice, even a call up. But dont expect anything to change as long as guys like Karlsson, Spezza, Methot, Michalek struggle. And knee jerk reaction trades make me nervous. I also dont think a real game changer of a trade is out there right now.

          • Tooks

Doesnt need to be a game changer, would be awesome IF we could get a top 4D but that aint happening. Any change would be good right now. Put fear back into the players.

          • Aaron 2.0

If you’re just looking for a change to send a message, might as well go to the farm.

      • Sandy

        Maybe you are right…
Next season they bring up Luke Richardson as assistant coach in charge of defense. He has done such a great job in Binghamton.
Mark Reeds,.. see ya… Dave Cameron I wish the same.. but we are stuck with you as long as Melnyk owns the team.
I’m hoping they can get Bobby Ryan signed this offseason. He is crutial to the future…

      • Aaron 2.0

Yup, we don’t really have the pieces to make a decent trade happen (aside from prospects, which is very, very counter-productive). Also, the budget needs to be considered, so we can’t take on big contracts, and equal money needs to go back in any trade. I think what we see is what we get. Better not to wreck things for the future though. This team isn’t winning a cup this year, so no point in trying for quick fixes.

  • Jacques

Hearing big trade will be announced following the Winnipeg – Philly game. Ottawa-Winnipeg there is your trade rumor.

    • Tooks

Where are you “hearing” this from?

      • boom

        crickets…..

      • Jacques

I made it up – somebody wanted a rumor.

        • Phoenix

          HA HA funny,

    • Alcatraz

lol well E. Kane left the game injured, so I doubt its him
      Also I doubt you

      • Tooks

Maybe its precautionary…E. Kane for Cowen ++?

      • Jacques

Somebody asked for a rumor – so I made one up!

        • FBP

I’ll never trust anyone named Jacques again.

          • Jacques

            haha

    • Spoons

TruthTeller’s source tells me it’s Lehner for Bogosian and Montoya

  • Sensnation

I’m at the point where an Andy start is like hoping for a win but expecting a loss, like most teams feel with their backup. Release the LEHNER!!!

  • Eugenius

You can only protect 4 Sens players from trade…who would you protect? Go!
(My answer: Lehner, Turris, Bobby, Karl)

    • Jacques

      Same thing for me BUD!

    • FBP

      Turris, Zibanejad, Karlsson, Lehner

      • Eugenius

Zib is my #5. Can’t believe he was born in 1993…god I’m old…

      • Aaron 2.0

That’s what i’d do to. MacArthur is my # 5. I hope he sticks around for a while. Ryan is sort of a wild card. Will he want to stay after his contract ends? Here’s hoping, otherwise we’re really screwed with how pieces it took to acquire him.

        • FBP

As long as we move him for decent value this summer if he won’t sign things should be fine.

          • sprucesens

good god I hope he wants to stay. He was my favorite non senator before we got him. And I was so excited when we did. And its easy to see why. Next i’d want eberle. Then the D probably has a long list. But, ceci is also high on that list, so that’s a good thing.

    • Joe

      Ryan, Turris, Methot, Karlsson

    • Alcatraz

      Spezza, Neil, Phillips, Corvo

    • aegiszx

      Karl – Turris – Ryan – Ceci

      Everyone else is expendable.

      • Eugenius

I look forward to seeing how Ceci makes the jump. Watched him a ton when he was with the 67′s. Definitely an exciting prospect.

      • SenaTHOR

Ceci has potential but he didn’t make the word junior team so i question whether he is being overvalued.

    • Tooks

Bobby, Bobby’s stick, Bobby’ skates and Bobby’s helmet.

      • Tooks

Nah, in all honesty that is a very tough question…
        Lehner, Karlsson, Ryan, Spezza.

    • Tooks

Bobby Ryan, his stick, his skates and his helmet!

    • AusieSen

Kassian, Condra, Corvo and i would resign Leclaire then protect him also

      • Eugenius

Also need to make sure Ben Blood never gets moved. Future Norris Trophy winner…no question

  • Miguel

as with most of us on here I am more than a little concerned with Andy, and his shenanagans last night.
We all know he has been struggling lately, but the display of soccer dives yesterday was downright disturbing.
This tells me that our opposition have figured him out and by going hard to the net, ie the Rangers who caused his injury last year, is the way to get him off his game.
And to be fair our defense has not punishe anyone who goes hard to our net in the last couple of years.
Did you guys notice what happened when we would go hard on Luongo? there was some explaining to do,
Whereas most teams have a free shot to our net with little to no repercussions ( ie Gallagher MTL ).
So perhaps that was Andy’s frustration boiling over, and had enough of being bumped on most shots… even though they were his own teamates.
Bottom line, if we are down 4-1 and we already take enough stupid penalties, nothing wrong with someone sending a message that if you want to drive our net, and knock into our goalie, you will have to answer the bell!!!
Sens players we will live and die with our tenders, protect them and give them a chance to do their jobs!

    • Joe

Right on. If we can’t beat them on the scoreboard, I hope to god that we can beat them in the physicality department. Teams should be afraid to come to CT Centre and be very banged up when they leave. This would certainly mean protecting your goaltenders by any means necessary.

    • boom

      That (Anderson flop) was pathetic.
And I know I have mentioned it before. so i hope I’m not coming off as one of “those” guys…but we can talk about who should play in nets, and who should be traded until we’re blue in the face, but if the coach continues making mind-boggling decisions like having Chris – stone-hands/last played power play in junior – Phillips on the PP, we are going nowhere anyway. He is brutal and should be a 5/6 guy at this point of his career.

Ok, I’m done – as are the Sens.

      • Mike

Having Chris Phillips on the PP is the least of the problems plaguing the Senators. Their defence is absolutely brutal (and it’s not just one player either, but all of them). They are giving up the puck in their own end in prime scoring positions, getting caught watching the play, pinching when they have no support to back them up, allowing teams to enter their own zone far too easily, etc.

  • Sandy

For a season that started so well with 5 out of 6 pts in first three games.. then the West Coast and since then this season has been a nightmare.
Sens management decided to go with a young D pairing of Wiercioch & Cowen and it’s been a big mistake. These kids have no confidence and neither does Andy.
Time to sit all the players down to a lot of video.. make them watch their mistakes and bad games over and over. They should be downright ashamed of how they play some games.
They keep up with the win 1 – lose 3 scenario there is no playoffs..
Bringing up more D from the AHL isn’t going to help. Why replace inexperienced D with more inexperienced D?
No way you send Cowen down to the AHL and have to put him through waivers. As bad as he has been this year we know he does have potential and I’m sure other teams no that as well.
Time for Lehner. Time for the team to work hard each and every game each and every shift to turn it around.
Watching a good game – Rangers & Boston. Nice to see Chara punch out Boyle..

    • Tooks

Somebody said Cowen was waiver exempt for another 20 days or so? Dont know but IF he is, he should have been in Bingo like yesterday.

I have a question about the new broadcasting rights for next year and TSN being left out in the dark. Does the broadcasting rights affect the radio broad casts of games now that the Team 1200 is now TSN 1200. Who will cover the games on the radio now.

i think the deal was only for televiewers.

      • Sandy

Wasn’t it for Wed, Sat & Sun full control?
I think TSN has the regional rights to the Jets… and I believe will go after the Sens rights from Sportsnet once they expire the end of this season.
I assume those would be televising games not on Wed, Sat & Sun…

    • matsoukas45

Both are up at the end of the year, which is good tsn will pay threw the roof to get the tv rights of the sens.Which they will probably get and over pay for more money for melynk which will probably mean between sportsnet and tsn about 20-25 million more a year for the sens and Melynk says he loses 10 million a year,so he can`t use that excuse next year unless he is taking the money the sens make and using it for other then hockey ventures.

For the sake of everyone reading your posts, you should strongly consider investing in English classes.

        • Tooks

Why so harsh? I could read it fine, yes its a little on the hard side but its definitely not the worse.

          • sprucesens

yeah, not to be a douche, but 65kwhissel is just painful to read and decipher. See comment way below. But, its better than not contributing!

          • Luc Wolfe

Pffft I’m a lot worst. You wait and see

          • sprucesens

well done. almost a case in point. the word you were looking for is worse.” i’m a lot worse” :) I didn’t have to wait to see. Anywho…..go sens go?

        • matsoukas45

You should consider getting off welfare, and moving out of your parents basement dick weed.

          • Mike

Do you always resort to fallacies like argumentum ad hominem? P.S. Were you going for unintentional humour with your use of the term “dick weed”?

      • Sandy

I don’t really believe Melnyk when he says the team is losing 10M a year.
But if he is indeed losing that much money.. then some of his losses would be recovered by Revenue Sharing..

  • MethotToMyMadness

I had no idea that so few games were going to be on the regular stations this season. It’s really peeving me off that I cannot just tune into SportsNet 27 on Rogers and watch the Sens. Especially on a Thursday night!!! Last night I had to watch it on RDS, not something I was looking forward too. And the last few games (outside of the Detroit game haven’t been on either. Well, not on the stations I have, but I’ve never had to use Rogers 500 or TSN2 before.

So with the new broadcasting rights, is TSN completely out of the loop? How could that happen, I thought they had solidified themselves pretty good with the NHL a few years ago, right after they bought the Hockey Night in Canada Theme?

  • Eugenius

Slightly off topic…but that Lazar kid has 15 goals in 20 games…pretty solid start to the season. I don’t think it’ll take him long to surpass Matt Puempel on the depth chart. Not seeing a whole lot of that “natural goal-scoring ability” from Pump yet. Mind you he had 35 in 51 last year in the O

    • Sandy

If you have Sportsnet1 – channel 501 on Rogers.. Lazar and his Edmonton team will be on a 9:30

    • Righteous Smoke

Vincent Dunn drafted in the 5th round also hos 10 goals and 18 points in 19 games.

      • Shibal

Having Anthony Mantha on that team helps a lot.

        • Sensturion

Anthony Mantha doesn’t play for Gatineau. Plays for Val d’Or.

          • Shibal

My bad, Vincent Dunn was playing for Val d’Or last year, I guess he got traded to Gatineau before this season started.

        • Jacques

Dunn plays in Gatineau now Dude, Not with. Mantha anymore.

      • Eugenius

I like gritty players like Dunn and Lazar. Can’t be soft if we’re going to compete against the west, and against Boston and Toronto. I hate the leafs as much as anyone, but they aren’t an easy team to push around. If you go after Kessel, he’ll chop your shins off………

    • Shibal

Puempel has been stuck mostly playing on lines with Kramer this year. He has had to earn his top-6 spot. Today he is finally playing on a line with Hoffman and Da Costa, after scoring 2 goals in three games this past week.

  • sprucesens

What if we trade our “useless” players that don’t have a future on the team for picks? Then we can bring up a few players, even if they aren’t the one’s that project to be long term solutions. wikstrand, claesson, blood, eckford, sdao, and those types on D, or petersson, FILATOV..lol, and a few others on forwards. Just a thought. Can’t be worse than the play this year, and its really no different than what we had last year. We need some kind of shake up. Preferably 3 bodies gone.
My vote is Greening, Condra, Wiercioch.
I only put weir over gryba because we have ceci waiting in the wings to be the 2nd pair OD. Although, W could be the 3rd pairing OD with maybe claesson in the long run? Could be interesting

    • Sandy

So you must want the Sens to give Anaheim the first overall pick because they have the Sens first rounder from the Ryan trade.

      • sprucesens

do you actually think those players would be a lot worse then the current “callups” are playing? What i want is the team to improve, and the players that have never been, and never will be part of this teams long term future, traded for anything to make room for some hungry players that want to earn a spot on the big team.

remember, greening was a plug after the firesale, so was condra. Never even meant to make the team or stick around. They both were decent on initial call up, and have basically done nothing since. Its time we move on and give guys with high ceilings a chance to show what they can do. Or would you rather wait till we are having a good year where we are winning all kinds of games and then start inserting players to see what they are capable of, and chancing ruining a good season?

Now would be the perfect time to get some rookies into the lineup that have high potential, so we can see if they can start producing at an NHL level. I think BM agree’s, as he’s been floating all those names around the trade rumours mill, but no takers. That just shows you how little value these players have in the NHL. Hopefully we can clear out a few bodies to make room.

        • sprucesens

on a side note, yes we have far better players to call up to shock the team into doing something. But maybe they wait with the puempel, prince, pageau, ceci, lazar’s that project to be on the team in the long term, and try out other guys. Claesson would be at the top of my list. Won hardest worker at training camp. Thats what we need on our team now

  • Deadly

Good news..60 minutes of good play.
    Bad news..over 2 days and 2 games.

  • Sandy

I need help… I’m trying to find a free stream for the B-Sens game tonight.. Apparently USTREAM is not doing it or working..

    • sprucesens

try wiziwig, firstrowsports and so on

  • Shibal

Great praise, about Mika’s play of late from Yost:

“Very quietly, Clarke MacArthur — who has led the team in possession (measured by Relative Corsi) for most of the year — has fallen into second place. Who jumped him? The kid, Mika Zibanejad.

Zibanejad’s mostly blessed every line he’s played on this season,
including assisting Jason Spezza’s much-maligned trio in a
slow-but-steady turnaround. Last night, Zibanejad led all forwards in
shot-attempt margin. On the ice, his unit generated 24 even-strength
shots, yielding just nine in the process.

The cool thing is that he’s also scoring a chunk of goals. I say it’s
the cool thing because a lot of time, coaches react to the raw scoring
far too quickly, promoting guys who don’t deserve it and are riding
fluky percentages, or demote guys who don’t deserve it and are getting
bitten by the percentages soundly. Zibanejad’s dominating possession and
scoring goals, and I don’t see how the coaching staff can sour on him
at any point in the near future.”

    • SenaTHOR

Like Yost though, states the obvious. Lacks thorough knowledge of the game so states the obvious and finds other stats etc to sound credible.

  • Shibal

If by trade deadline, the sens are not in the playoffs, I would try to trade Michalek to Tampa for Brett Connolly. I think Connolly has been surpassed by other recent prospects in the Tampa system, resulting in him still being stuck in the AHL. Although he is struggling in the AHL this year, he had a 30 goal, 60 point season last year in the AHL. Tampa has the up and coming Drouin in the system, and they have Kucherov and possibly Vladislav Namestnikov ahead of him in depth, I think Ottawa should go for him.

The trade would help them dump some salary as well.

    • sprucesens

i would love all of those players. i love tampa’s prospects. Erne is another guy i’d love on our team

    • Jacques

I have proposed that they go after him before. Why wait, he would be a great 2nd or 3rd line RW.
