Senators News and Notes

The Ottawa Senators arrived in Los Angeles, California yesterday afternoon in advance of Wednesday night’s game against the Kings.

The stop in Los Angeles marks the first of four on the road for the Sens in a trip that will see them also make stops in San Jose, Anaheim and Phoenix before finally returning to Ottawa for their home opener against the Devils on October 17th.  It’s a tough stretch of games and one that will certainly test Paul MacLean’s team early in the 2013/2014 season.

Despite allowing what may have been one of the worst goals of all time, Jonathan Quick is still one of the best goalies in the NHL and the Kings are perennial powerhouse in the Western Conference.  The Sens will certainly have to clean up some of the issues they had in Toronto on Saturday against a team like Los Angeles.

It’s going to be interesting to see what MacLean does with the lineup against these Western teams.  On paper, there doesn’t appear to be a need for a guy like Matt Kassian on Wednesday but the Coach may think otherwise.  Guys like Dan Carcillo and Kyle Clifford can fight but aren’t really in that “heavyweight” category. Think I’d prefer to see MacLean go with Da Costa tomorrow night.

The Sens are on the ice for practice at 4:30 PM.

  • -In his 30 Thoughts this week, Elliotte Friedman mentions that there were at least four significant offers from teams looking to pry Bobby Ryan away from the Ducks.  The Senators were able to get a deal done for a couple reasons, 1) They didn’t need to send salary back the other way and 2) They offered a first round pick.  The fact that Bryan Murray didn’t need to send any salary the other way became a reality when Alfredsson signed his deal in Detroit.
  • -I promise this blog won’t become an advanced stats hub but I do find myself paying closer attention to them this year.  They’ll never provide all the answers and really don’t claim to but they do provide interesting ways to look at the game.  One new site called Extra Skater is getting high praise from the analytics crowd and is worth checking out. You can find them on Twitter here.
  • -I keep reading about the panic over a slow start from Bobby Ryan but I really haven’t seen it, from fans anyway.  I know Shawn Simpson from TSN 1200 was all over him in the preseason but people seem pretty level headed other than that.  The 6thSens wrote about this topic here suggesting that the “panic” is completely manufactured by the media and at this point, I tend to agree.

  • hq8

another thing for all the Bobby Ryan haters in the media: he is going to be on the US olympic team too. its just so unbelievable the kind of B.S people can stir up sometimes. when Ryan came to ottawa, there were no knocks on him regarding performance. the only question mark and the only logical obvious one was if the chemistry will be there with Spezza and Michalek. and go figure, spezza’s groin is making sure that question stays.
the guy on the globeandmail needs to do his research better too. he associated a tweet to sens fans which was actually made by a total idiot of a leafs fan – the one where he mocked ryan’s family past.
all in all, its ridiculous what some in the ottawa media have started here and i’m surprised its getting the likes of Ian Mendes and Brent Wallace involved in it too. What really should happen is that whoever starts this kind of B.S should be ignored and left alone blowing their own horn until it dies out.

    • 57gord

Check out the Spezza article on the Ottawa Sun web-site………seems like most of the comments are from trolling Leafers, what is it with them? The media is infested with them.

    • Zorav

Great to see Lazar, lindburg and wikstrand of to a good start!

  • RUSH RLZ

First post on the new blog here!

Hand wringing BS about a player’s performance two games into a season is as stupid as firing your coach three games in… quadruply so when said player was an off-season addition and hasn’t had time to gel with his teammates yet.

I know we may have some justified concerns about the health of a couple players, but Bobby Ryan is no-where close to being on my worry-dar.

    • Dante

Indeed. Let’s use the 10-20 game and not the 1-2 game frame to evaluate players/coaches, etc…

  • FBP

I’d love to know what the other three serious offers for Ryan were.

    • SensChirp

Philly was long rumoured to be interested but they would have certainly been one of the teams that needed to send money back in the deal to get it done.

      • The Apostle

Philly were initially considered to be front runners because Ryan is a Flyers fan. All I care about is that he was excited to be coming here, has said and done all the right things. That being said, I could do with him scoring a couple of goals on this west coast swing.

  • Sicilian

    Definitely media generated.
The media is a lens, things that are a little bad, look very bad, things that are a little good, look greater than they should.
It has to be made, “newsworthy” and frankly even if the fans don’t necessarily believe it, we click on those links, buy those articles, and discuss it in blogs.

  • Robert Cyr

Nice to see that Chirp is giving us a heads up on “New Post Is Up ” on a regular basis.

Have to say that this site is so much more diversified than the former one !
Very easy to navigate, and no need to keep “Refreshing”, as it pops up
automatically when new comments are added.

    Amazing improvement Chirp !!

Don’t worry about becoming an advanced stats hub. I find it so funny how polarizing the views are on advanced stats. Its either your for them or against them. Its really like the whole fighting debate in hockey, no middle ground

If you can’t mention puck posession stats or shots attempted stats in your game day posts and recap posts then why are you allowed to mention TOI or shots or goals. stats are stats and they all hold value

Advance stats believers have issues in that they want to be “accepted” therefore they go to great lengths to show the value of stats by writing a 1000 word essay to use their new found stats. Simply slide in the numbers in a recap paragraph and it will be perfect.

Maclean does it in his press conferences all the time.

  • ProbablyNot11

Simmer loves to hear himself speak as well as laugh at his own jokes. Nothing he says should be taken seriously, after all he used to work for the enemy. Ryan is going to put up his usual numbers once he gets going and I for one can’t wait for him to score his first and start the ball rolling!! GO SENS!!

    • Sandy

He is also a huge Habs fan.. So that explains that.

What ever happened to the Leaf fan.. Dave Gross?

      • ProbablyNot11

Not sure, he should have fit right in with the recent switch to TSN (Toronto Sports Network)1200.

  • The Kassassin

As much as we gripe about the Sens schedule (always seeming to get leafs on the tail end of a back-to-back) this West Coast trip could give them some time away from the Canadian media rats and let them figure each other out. Look for that top line to come back flying high.
As for that tweet directed at Bobby from the Leafs fan, absolutely gross. I mean it’s social media and you take it for what it is but living in Leafs country it’s pretty par for the course. Can’t wait till the next matchup, no doubt BR6 will be fired right up.

    • Sandy

Roy MacGregor in his Globe & Mail article.. suggested that tweet came from a Sens fan. I set him straight…

  • RUSH RLZ

Well I guess it will be simple enough to keep my team’s mantras straight this season…

Rex Ryan kept repeating one word in his press conference after the Jets’ 30-28 win over Atlanta: “Fearless.”

  • Hax

Play Da Costa A LOT please PMac. No point in having him on the roster if we’re not playing him regularly.

As for the stats, agree with most here that I wouldn’t want them flooding the site but the new format probably allows for a way to segment them off somewhere as I know I occasionally find them useful.

And for Ryan: Puh-lease. Two freaking games people (well, Simmer)! This Cali road trip is probably just what he needs (if he needs anything at all). Let him show the boys a few watering holes he likes, stay under the radar a bit and pot a few to settle everyone down.

    Go Sens Go

    • Alcatraz

My thinking is Chirp should use some of the new metrics in his summaries and pregame posts. They add value, just as much as saying “Spezza has points in 4 of hsi last 5 games” or “Phillips logged a season high 24 minutes last night” Chirp can say “The Turris line generated a corsi rating of “X” it helps show more in a summary

Now if I wanted to know more stats I would go to NHL.com like I used to or to ExtraSkater.com like I know do

    • Tooks

Play SDC alot? on the 4th line?…no thx, if Spezza goes, SDC will get 6-8 minutes, wasted.
If Spezza cant go, which would be a damn shame already, SDC gets 18-20 minutes and probably gets overwhelmed. I hope he proves me wrong but I doubly hope Spezza can go.

  • hq8

the real story right now should be how good will the sens do on this roadtrip. last year, the sens sucked really really bad on the road (their record on the road was not like one of a playoff caliber team). Its important they dominate the road this year as the # of games away is larger and it is an important part of their overall game taking the next step.

    • Tooks

Well I can tell you right now how they will do, if Spezza, Ryan and Michalek dont start producing, we wont win many games on that trip.

  • Alcatraz

Is it just me or is it alot quieter on this new site? lol

    • RUSH RLZ

Yeah it seems so…. maybe it is the lull in game action… or maybe some casual readers don’t care for or aren’t as accustomed to the new format, haven’t bothered to create new accounts yet etc.

      • hq8

i actually see less meaningless comments here now

        • The Apostle

my comment is meaningless – need to keep a balance of these things

          • hq8

            lol

          • SensChirp

There are “less” comments but I feel like same people from the old site are posting, just not as frequently.

          • SensChirp

The thing about the tree style comments is it encourages conversations that start and ultimately end. Whereas the old site had a steady flow that seemed to go from beginning of the comment section to the end. It was much harder to follow but seemed to encourage steady discussion/debate on a particular issue.

That led to “more” comments but not necessarily a better comment section.

          • Alcatraz

agreed. Also Tookie has been quiet therefore less comments in general

          • SensChirp

Therefore, the switch was a glorious success!

          • Tooks

Well ya I cant post logical stuff without getting blasted by homers. Speaking of injuries and reality is out of the question.

          • SpezzaFan19

How many hints do you need ?

            START YOUR OWN BLOG !

          • Cassidaus

Is there any way to collapse/expand all the comments at the top of the comment section? It might make navigating the comments easier.

          • SensChirp

The current system does not allow you to minimize all comments at once. What you can do is shift between sorting by Newest, Oldest and Best and then just use whichever you prefer.

For example- if you sort by oldest, you could minimize each discussion as you scanned down through the comment section.

    • Dr.Hockey

1000 comments since the big switch. About on par with the old chirp. Had a couple regulars that had troubles making the switch but are all set up now.

    • Floridasensfan

Have to consider lots of time between games, not a lot to talk about.

  • NickofTime

    1. The concern over Ryan will stop when he scores his first goal, then the concern will be if he will ever score again. So let me spoil it for them, yes, he will score again & again & again. I bet he scores 25 to 30 goals this season again.
    2. Once again I disagree with you Chirp, Kassian needs to dress against LA. They are a big tough team & Da Costa will be over matched, Kassian will keep things honest & get Ottawa off to a good start in California. You don’t want to start the trip with a huge brawl, lose a couple of guys over fights & lose the game, Kassian calms all that.
    3. Have you ever heard the phrase “Stats are for losers, the only real stat that is important is the final score”. Some make too big a thing out of them, but I do agree they are interesting & should be used as guidelines. I just hope no one completely depends on them, there are some stats that just are not quantifiable.

    • Alcatraz

This comment makes me laugh lol. I don’t know why but it does. I think it has to do with the fact you think a team who is off to a 1-2 start, struggling a bit, 1 year removed from the Stanley Cup, will actually care if we start Kassian. Honestly I think the “heavyweight” factor is all media driven which is why you see more of them in the East than in the West. Name all the fighters in the league and see what conference they are in?

Parros, Orr, Mclaren, Kassian, Boulerice, Crombeen, Prust, Ott, Rinaldo
The West don’t really go for the goon style, they are just tough. They have Reaves, Brown…can’t think of anyone else.

Sure Kyle Clifford or a Carcillo, but they are guys people like Neil, Cowen Smith can handle and sort out

In the West you need 4 lines who can all forecheck

  • hq8

anyone else feel here that the leafs are in for a rude awakening tonight at the hands of Patrick Roy?

    • Tooks

Yep the Avs are a team to watch for this year. Great speed and arent afraid to get dirty. Those kids can really play. Gonna be a good test for the Leafs.

    • Sandy

They give away the puck 33 times tonight like the did against the Sens.. the Avs will make them pay.
The Avs have young players that can score. Some nights the Sens just can’t do that. They should.. I don’t know why… but the should have blown the Leafs away on Sat.. with that number of giveaways.

    • Player-61

      Benny FTW!!

  • karlssens

Kind of got pissed off when I remembered we gave up a first round pick.. The draft won’t be exciting anymore for us haha. That was a steep package we gave up for him indeed.

  • timic

Oooo… I really like that advanced stats page! Some really important points are revealed. Most importantly:

-There is a group of players whose Corsi (and Fenwick) are substantially higher than the rest of the team so far (about double). These are: McCarther (11); Weircoch (13); Spezza (15); Turris (15); and Ryan (16).

What does that mean? As far as fancy stats are concerned, the Spezza line is doing better than the Turris line. And Ryan is the best of them all! So really, at this point, one should not be questioning the top line at all. Especially considering that they play against better competition.

    Also important: Nice job Weircoch!

    • Tooks

Only thing that matters is scoring…Spezza has 1 goal, Ryan 0 and Michalek 0. For guys that get the majority of the ice time and PP time. Its not a good start… Ovie, Backstrom, Brunner, Sedin, Turris, Eller, Lupul and many more = Good to great starts.

  • timic

    oops… and Karlesson (13)

  • FBP

After some recherche – a rumoured Ryan offer was Coburn and 2013 11th overall from Philly.

  • SenaWalrus

Lol! I was typing a reply to Tookie’s latest bash at the top line, only to get a “ERROR – the comment you are responding to has been removed by the moderator!” – haha!

    Anyway, as I was saying…

The only thing that matters is winning. Which, as a team we are doing ok at.

Even if the top line isn’t scoring, they are generating chances and shots and, most importantly, playing against the other teams top players.

And the we have a solid second line that can then take advantage of the other teams second defensive pairing and make them pay.

That’s team work. Yeah, it sure would be better if they were scoring, but let’s wait until we start losing before throwing ourselves under the bus.

    • Tooks

I agree the only thing that matters is winning, which I clearly stated in my deleted post, you cant win if you dont score. We rely WAY too much on Andy and as great as he’s been he wont be able to keep that up for 70+ games.
Once that top line starts to click, its gonna take alot of pressure off Andy.

      • SenaWalrus

I don’t think your post was that clear. You complained that without the top line scoring we would never win… not really the same thing.

I have to say, I agree with SC’s removal of your negative comments until you can learn to have a little more balance in your posts. Take it as a life lesson ;-)

  • Miguel

As Chirp has so elequently pointed out, all ths Ryan bashing is coming from the media, and most of which is primarily stemming from the centre of the universe or as I like to call TO the Big Hole!
For obvious reasons they are very concerned that we have this stud Ryan, who is in his prime, and was picked just behind Crosby.
This guy is and will be a huge threat to them, and anyhing they can do to derail his success, they will do, in any way. So how better to get into his head other than to try and shake his confidence after 2 games?
And Simmer, like it or not bleeds blue, but tries his best to sound impartial, however he gets very defensive when people criticize his Laffs.
As for the Twitter BS, lets hope BR6 is accustomed to idiots out there, and he knows that in reality The Sens , The City of Ottawa, And Sens Army, are behind him and know that when he busts out, The City of the Big Hole, and the Laffs will be the biggest losers of his success!!!!
    Go Bobby Go!!!

    • Tooks

As one of the biggest Ryan supporter/advocator, I really hope he gets going, he hasnt had this much media attention before, maybe he’s overwhelmed so a nice western road trip back to his old stomping grounds could ignite the big scoring winger!
      GO BOBBY GO!

      • Miguel

Best part about this new website is it brings out the best of Tooks… great post Tookie :)
and agree, he is not used to this type of media frenzy, so early in a season, no doubt he is a littel overwhelmed with, a new city, new linemates, new coaches, and new neighbours… worst part being, he did not realize how bad the fans and media rom the Big Hole can be.

    • NO65*

There was a great tweet this pm from Dean Brown naming all the other offensive stars who have not yet scored a single goal in the season. To name a few: Stamkos, , Giroux, Malkin, Nash, H Sedin, Iginla, Skinner, both Stall, Kopitar …
Let’s all hope Bobby gets a hatty tomorrow to shut those morons.

      • The Apostle

There’s a lot of fantasy teams out there waiting for a goal from their sure fire can’t miss first pick

      • Miguel

yup great poont, Stamkos Giroux Malkin and Ryan, with no goals in 2 games, should all be written off this year, according to the pundits!
And by those calculatioins then Grabovski should have over 200 goals this year…. ridiculous!

      • GoSensGoEh

Ryan has 7 shots on goal, and should/could have 1 goal, but goal scorers are streaky, maybe he gets 2 goals in his next 7 shots.

  • SenaWalrus

Today’s GM question… if you had the power, how many of you would want to trade Ryan straight up for Kessel?

Anyone that says yes, please close the door on your way out… thanks!

    • The Apostle

Considering that their GPG ratios are practically identical in the regular season but that Kessel has played about 125 games more and that Kessel has done it with far crappier support than Ryan, I don’t think it’s that unreasonable. I’d take Ryan because I want to punch Kessel in the ovaries, but that might be because of who he plays for.

      • boom

I was pondering how to reply to the original post, but you stated it perfectly. Thanks.

    • Tooks

Then why do you even ask the question? Kinda silly…

I wouldnt do it in a heartbeat, it would be a tough deal for sure but I dont think what Kessel has accomplished with a far worse team can just be thrown out the window and I think Kessel has better playoff stats 21pts in 22games, damn good. Bobby has 15pts in 26games.

Tough call but I would keep Bobby cuz he’s younger. (8 months) LOL

      • The Apostle

One thing I guarantee is that if Kessel played for any team other than the one he does, you would have more people saying yes. People in here are blinded by the blue and white and that’s fair enough, rivalry and hatred are fine, but to just think that all our players must be better than all their players just because they play for the TML is the thought process of a 12 year old.

        • Tooks

Watch out you might get your posts deleted talking like that.

          • The Apostle

Doubtful. From what I’ve seen Chirp doesn’t tend to delete reasonable arguments or non-provocative posts.

          • Tooks

Just happy we agree on Kessel, guy is a good NHL player! One of the very few who can truely snipe!

        • Floridasensfan

Leafs suck, Kessel is a Leaf, Kessel sucks.

    • hq8

it would be a tough decision today. but i’d still take ryan due to overall game being better generally, not to mention being picked 2nd after crosby does have to mean something. also, lets not forget, Boston didnt want Kessel and got rid of him to go on and win the cup+ a SCF appearance this year. in the process they milked toronto for two first rounders and a 2nd rounder. given one first rounder is now used goods (seguin), but dougie hamilton still figures to be a chara replacement for Boston down the line. I think it was telling for the leafs and Kessel that Boston came back from 4-1 down with 10 to go to win it in Game 7. Some people are mentioning Kessel’s production as making it a tough decision. granted, but i dont buy into it completely. And it remains to be seen if Kessel is really an 8 million dollar guy too.

    • GoSensGoEh

On the ice, Kessel is pretty exciting with his speed and moves, but in the locker room, I’d take Ryan hands down any day.

    • hq8

kessel didn’t score today…..thats the answer to your question.

  • SenaWalrus

Why can you see how Voted Up your post but can’t see who Voted down your post?

I roll over the up arrow or number and get a list of the user(s) but when I roll over the down arrow, I only get the “vote down” tool tip.

Is this a bug or a feature?

    • The Apostle

If it helps, I was one of the people who voted your Ryan/Kessel question down.

I would guess that Boom was another and the 3rd was Jesus.

      • SenaWalrus

        You didn’t like the question?

I wasn’t suggesting it because I’m not happy with Ryan…

I was just trying to get a conversation going… it’s been very quiet on here today.

        • The Apostle

The question was fine and I answered it. In fact I think it’s an interest discussion for non game day posts – somebody should ask a GM question of the day.

However, I thought your follow up line which basically said if anybody, in your scenario, would trade Ryan for Kessel then they should leave was asinine. And you must have had some clue that it was, because you edited your post.

    • Dr.Hockey

I believe this is a feature so that Tookie doesn’t try to hunt you down after giving him a down vote.

  • MoeDozer

a little update on how some of the prospects have been doing thus far:

2012 7th rounder D Mikael Wikstrand (Mora IK div2)1g 9a in 8gp .playing div2, he still wants to remain in div2 for the year then probably look to div1 next year. look forward to seeing him in bingo in 2 years or so. hes only 19 mind you.

2013 3rd rounder G Marcus Hogberg (Mora IK div2) off to a shaky start holding a 2-4 record thus far but he will bounce back, he seems to be a slow starter that plays best during high pressure.

2013 4th rounder C/LW Tobias Lindberg (Djurgarden) starter the year on the J20 team with 3g2a in 7gp. which was enough to get him the promotion up to the big club which is also in div2 so far has had 0points in 2games which is expected as we know very well, youngsters in the SHL dont get much top 6 mins no matter how talented they may be…

    2013 1st rounder C Cutris Lazar and captain of Edmonton Oil Kings 3g3a 3gp +6 0pim

    • MoeDozer

I should also clarify for the newer fans or those just not so familiar of European leagues. div2 to div1 is not like AHL to NHL. in zibby’s last year at Djurgarden they were relegated down from div1 to div2.

it takes the 2 lowest ranked teams at the end of the year in div1. and the top 4 teams from div2 play in a tournament. the top 2 teams of the 6 move on to div1 for the following season and the remaining 4 drop to div2.

so in short div2 does have plenty of players that are just as skilled as div1 for the most part.

  • ReleaseTheKarlsson

So frustrating having to read articles and listen to stories that are created by the media about how the fans are reacting, when the reality is that NO ONE is reacting in that way. So the reaction to a made up reaction becomes the story, and again, the fans become the lightning rod instead of the media. It makes me want to start a blog on my own to write about real stories in the Sens world….I could call it….SensChat! Or….SensTalk….I think I’m on to something here.

    • SensChirp

Let SensChirp be your platform! (Completely agree, by the way). The way the media is trying to spin this non-story is infuriating.

      • ReleaseTheKarlsson

I would love to get in on writing some stuff for ChirpEd. Possibly about this weird relationship between team-fan-media.

        • SensChirp

          Get this man a pen!

  • IcySurfas

The media needs to STFU. Bobby Ryan is going to be just FINE. Hes not a flash in the pan…hes been playing at a high level for a while now…and hes going to hit that level with the Sens with a handfull of games under his belt.

Cmon….2 games and the “experts” start to weigh in.

I hope the kid isnt listening to this crap.

  • SensChirp
    • IcySurfas

I think alot of us are trying to block this out of our heads…simply because of the avalanche of injuries we had last year. Its a denial thing (at least for me). I want to say “nope…nope…not this year…nope…hell be fine.”

But reality may in fact sink in. (Damnit)

If any of you have any little budda dolls or good luck charms…now is the time to rub them. We need this guy healthy. When Spezza is healthy…there is no doubting what he can give to this team.

All the pieces of this team fall into place nicely…as long as Spezza is our healthy 1st line centre. If he goes down…everything gets juggled. (sigh)

      • Tooks

        Wait, reality…whats that?

    • hq8

lets hope the fearless this year is adding to and not replacing the pesky from last year.

Unbelievable. I have to admit I am getting fed up with this – and I can’t see things improving over the long term….Thank goodness there’s only two years left on his contract – then, time go move on…

    • kerovnian

Groin injuries are really hard to assess. The first thing that goes when you have one is training, and that doesn’t help with getting the top line in sync either. I think the whole reason why Zibby was sent down is so Da Costa could fill in for the captain on the odd game during the trip out West, and/or lighten his in-game load via the odd double shift, since he’d be likely be day-to-day for the duration.

That said, I’m not too worried for the long-term. Firstly, Spezza is travelling with the team. This is good. Secondly, this is not a recurrence or secondary symptom of his back problems. Groin inflammations can happen to pretty much anyone. They’re hard to shake off, but shouldn’t concern us in terms of Spezza’s overall longevity as a player. Certainly a bummer in the short term, but let’s tone down the doom and gloom.

    • Tooks

Geez, already, that didnt take long…You do know this will always be an issue with Spezza. Like somebody said below, reality sinks in eventually. On western swing without our Captain and arguably best and only #1C. Well we didn pretty good without our stars last year, just keep chuggin!

  • hq8

the leafs lost. you all can celebrate now =D

    • Sicilian

The should have lost to the Sens on Saturday. Otherwise who cares?

      • SensChirp

Wellll they are in the same division.

  • PraiseAlfie11

Not worried about spezza. Lets say he misses 10 games (doubt it); there’s no way the season is determined by losing him for 10 games*.

Move the 2nd line to top line. Call up zbad and put him or pageau as the C between Ryan and michalek.

    Chirp,

The site looks great. Like Disqus as the platform!

My only request is that you get rid of the tweet and like buttons on mobile.

    • SensChirp

      Done.

      • PraiseAlfie11

Awesome! I guess you saw how it blocked a good chunk of the screen on a phone browser.

        Thanks!

  • yannrock

Andre Benoit played great against the Leafs. Corvo better step up. LOL

    • SensChirp

The issue for the Senators was the need for another right hand shot for the power play. But ya, Benoit has been terrific for the Avalanche so far.

    • Player-61

He was on the ice for all goals (mind you he got pinned with the -1 on the MacKinnon giveaway as well). He’s also playing top 4 mins playing alongside Corey Sarich…..which IMO is a step up from playing with Philly (not that I don’t like the man as he’s a perfect 5-6 guy right now, but age seems to be catching up to him)

      • The Apostle

MacKinnon gave the puck away? I’m assuming on LancheChirp there are hundreds of posts calling for him to be traded.

    • yannrock

I am very happy for him. the man has more than paid his dues.

A few successful seasons in the AHL, a season in the KHL and 2 seasons in Sweden.

The guy deserves shot and I am glad he finally got it. If he would have stayed in Ottawa, he probably would still be the 7th guy due to our depth on D.

All the best to him. As long as it does not bite the Sens in the ass at some point.

      • Player-61

He’s won at almost every level he played. A memorial Cup with Kitchener, a Spengler Cup while he was playing overseas and 2 Calder Cups (1 with Hamilton and 1 with Bingo). Just a great character guy that can only help in the room and on the ice.

  • SensChirp

A reminder that the Sens play the Sharks twice this month, beginning with a game on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night.

If you dont have Hertl in your pool, dont be a fool. Pick him up! lol
Luckily I got him with my rookie pick this year!
6 goals already! Even if he dies down a bit, it was one hell of a pick up!

  • Kratos83

okay finally made it here, not that I post much, more of a reader as everyone here is way more knowledgeable than myself…not the news we wanted on Spezza…but I guess better than playoff time or at the end of the season.

    • The Apostle

      • Kratos83

        • The Apostle

any opinion is valid, knowledge is a mere frameholder for it
