Game Day- The Battle of Ontario

With a win in the season opener under their belts, the Ottawa Senators are right back at it against their provincial rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs are off to a strong start this year, posting wins over Montreal and Philadelphia in their first couple outings.  The Sens look to hand them their first loss of the season tonight at the ACC.

While there was some definitely some rust, the Senators are obviously thrilled to come away with a win in their season opener.

Ottawa had a ton of chances but just could not find a way to beat Ryan Miller through the first 58 minutes.  But with time running out, Erik Karlsson took a perfect cross ice feed from Clarke MacArthur and beat Miller through the legs, giving the Sens a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish. On a night where the Sens were trying to shake off some early season rust, Craig Anderson was perfect.  He made several huge stops, keeping the Sabres off the board and locking up a huge two points in the season opener.

Paul MacLean will make a couple changes to his line up heading into tonight’s game vs. the Leafs.  Eric Gryba struggled and as a result finds his way into the press box.  That means Joe Corvo draws in for Ottawa.  And with all the “tough guys” dressing for the Leafs, MacLean will insert his enforcer as Matt Kassian takes Stephane Da Costa’s spot.

Just an optional skate for the Sens this morning but here is how they are expected to line up.

Michalek-Spezza-Ryan
MacArthur-Turris-Conacher
Greening-Pageau-Condra
Kassian-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Wiercioch
Phillips-Corvo

Craig Anderson gets the start in the Ottawa goal.  Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM with the game available on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada.

  • Wanted to thank you all for the kind words about the new site.  The web design guy and I have been working away on it for quite some time so it was really great to hear all the positive reviews.  As a note- if you’ve signed up for an account but did not get a registration email, just go ahead and log in using your information.  We have been manually activating all the account so you should be good to go.  I want to see lots of new faces in that comment section today!

  • Senator-Stanley

    Go Sens Go!!!

  • SpezzaFan19

    one concern

the black on white layout is much harder on the eyes
I much prefer the previous white on gray
    Is a less-bright-white possible ?

    • The Apostle

try altering your own screen resolution, that will darken things somewhat, but could make the text harder to see.

maybe chirp has a deal with a sunglasses provider or something – chirp ray bans, i’ll cut you in for 35% Dave

  • karlssens

Not too sure about how I feel with Kassian in the lineup.. I don’t think it would have been a terrible idea to stick with Da Costa and try to beat them on talent.

Playing the Leafs always makes me nervous, but they seem to have some defensive issues that we can capitalize on. We seem to play better against them at their own rink, so let’s hope that we can move to 2-0 to start the season. I wouldn’t panic or worry if the Sens lose, but boy would it be good to light Reimer up for once!

    • The Kassassin

You need the Kassassin in the lineup. Keeps the rest of those knuckleheads honest. Namely that bonehead Orr. Wouldn’t really want Cowen, Smith or Neil to have to fight him when we have a top 3 fighter in the league to handle it.

Count on Bobby F^cking Ryan to make Reimer pay tonight!!!

  • SENSor

Love the line-up! Kassian is a no-brainer, and Corvo brings some experience to settle things down in what will be a high-spirited game…

    Great job, Coach!

  • hq8

da costa on the 3rd/4th line was always puzzling…..smith centering down there makes much more sense and in reality has been shown to be the right combination.

need a win tonight. leafs nation is on a high and needs to come down from it.

  • NickofTime

Personally, I would have preffered to see Corvo start yesterday in Buffalo & have Gryba come into the game against the leafs. We know the Leafs will not change their game, they are going to be physical & they are going to go after our star players. I would also like to see Lehner in net in a back to back situation, while Anderson was great last night it’s only the start of the season & putting in the bigger, tougher Lehner in this situation wouldn’t hurt Ottawa since Toronto likes to drive the net. No sense getting our starter hurt in game two against the goon squad.

IMO Kassian, Gryba & Lehner would have been the three I would have inserted into the lineup for tonight’s game to match up against Toronto’s physical play. Should be an interesting game & while some analysts are saying that Toronto’s tough guys are all out of the lineup they still have Orr, Phaneuf, Bodie & Devane will likely dress for tonight. Just once I would love to see the Sens kick the Leafs ass & dominate them physically all over the ice & on the score board in the same game. GO SENS GO.

    • SENSor

Very sensible and insightful comment. Impressive!

    • Sensturion

Putting Lehner in makes sense, but the Sens have another 3 day break after tonights game. Fatigue shouldn’t be an issue for Anderson.

  • Conor_smythe

Hmm, Two of my “Question Mark players” from yesterday’s thread have found their way to the press box.. interesting

I do like the looks of the lineup more today. But I would really like to see Chris Neil get a bit more ice-time, especially at the start of games/the start of the season.

Neil is a HUGE energy guy, and if last nights game was lacking something, it was energy!

The Maple Leafs are not the Buffalo Sabres. They are playing with a huge chip on their shoulders and they are going to come out swinging (no pun intended, phil kessel).

I would put Neil out there on the top line with Spezza for the first shift of the game, just to wake everybody up.

    • SENSor

My guess is we’ll see Neil skate a few more minutes tonight…

  • jtf927

chirp, the site looks great. really awesome job.

    • SensChirp

      Thanks! Much appreciated.

  • Robert Cyr

Too bad that MacLean did not try and have same lineup as the Buffalo game.
Starting Lehner would also have been a good move to keep him in the zone.

To show the Leafs that we want to play hockey, I would have not inserted Kassian.
However, it looks like the game might evolve into staged fights !!

    GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Snoopy Senior

    • SENSor

No staged fights – Kassian just there to keep everyone honest…

      • Sandy

I hate staged fights.. They have to be gone from the game…

    • Mexican Baby Jesus

      Lehner will probably get Anaheim

  • H POTTER

Wow..can’t wait for game 2. I hate playing the leafs. I’m for bringing those Leafs down from their high horse ! Let’s ruin their home opener.
From the biggest Sens fan in MTL

    • SensFanInMTL

Je pense que tu te trompe mon ami.

  • Dan Hill

    Oh Baby…..it’s on
wonder who’s calling the game ?

  • Sandy

Will take the win… not the prettiest game by the Sens. You could see the rust. Too many outside shots… will need to get a lot closer to score on Reimer who is 8-1-1 against the Sens in his career.
If Gryba was bad defensively will Corvo be any better? I wished they would have kept Kassian out of the lineup.. He can’t play a regular shift..
Leafs have Orr and Devane…. the other fighters are injured. There is no need for Kassian…
Crossing fingers for a win…. but it will be tough. They have to be a lot better than last night..
Go Sens… make the Leaves fall….

  • SENSor

    I’m calling it! Sens 3, Leafs 0

  • Sandy

Going to be flipping channels tonight. Ott/Tor.. and Bos/Det.. should also be a very good game… Go Sens.. Go Bruins.

  • Millennium

I understand why Kassian is in the lineup tonight, but I wish we had a version of his ‘skill set’ that could also play a shift of hockey…

  • hq8

its fall, lets trash some leafs. also, i’m looking for cowen to make it hell for kadri tonight.

  • sprucesens

looking forward to the game tonight! Chirp, i sent an email your way about technical issues i’ve been experiencing. Chrome loads comments properly, but my IE doesn’t load. Just looks like a big text document(looks like your post above, same format). Also has no place to sign in and comment. Also, had trouble logging in, when i switched to chrome. If i click the little gear and sign in, it works, but the other box didn’t work. Don’t spend too much time on it though, we got sens to cheer on!!!

Fantastic game last night. Looking forward to some chemistry from the first line. Go SENS GO

    • sprucesens

also… more tables! an idea….. maybe make a template table that you could then insert the line ups into for gameday posts? Also, i liked knowing when i was properly logged in. A little box similar to before that says “welcome ____”. Simple and effective. Now, best i can tell, the only way to verify is to be clicked into the post comment section.

      • SensChirp

Does it not say that in the top right? Are you on your phone or on a computer?

        • sprucesens

on computer. no i’m not seeing it?

          • sprucesens

yeah, now it says i’m just waiting for confirmation email. I read you were having problems with that. I guess maybe you could make a note that people need to sign up for Disqus as well as senschirp if they want to comment and be part of the site? So dummies like me aren’t thwarted. lol

          • SensChirp

            Your account is now active.

Pretty sure you can use a SensChirp account OR a Disqus one. Don’t need both.

          • sprucesens

working now. Can’t just sign up for disqus. It allows comments, but can’t “login” to website to get the “howdy” in the top corner. Can still post comments i guess, so it doesn’t change much i suppose. Other than maybe you keeping track of total users and so on

          • sprucesens

still no change on IE though. wonder if i’m missing a plugin or something. I checked, and Disqus seems to be working on other websites using IE. Am i the only one with this issue?

        • sprucesens

i can post as sprucesens, but like i said, if i try to log in from the top left corner thing, it says no go, invalid account. Or am i being dumb. Is that only Disqus user name thing i created, and not a senschirp name? I bet thats it…..

          • SensChirp

Let me know if that sorts it out.

  • lbernier

if Clarke MacArthur gets the game winner tonight I will laugh lol

  • John

    Excellent site. Go Sens Go!

  • karlssens

The site is still a little bit of a dead zone as we wait for regulars to get setup on the new site lol.

    • SensChirp

Always a little quieter on weekends. That issue with the confirmation emails not going out is probably holding up some. More than 100 have registered for accounts so far.

      • karlssens

Things will be back to normal within a week I’d say. People need to acclimate to the new environment haha! The real question is, can this new site let you use tables?!

  • hq8

dunno if macarthur needed to take those shots at carlyle before the game……

  • The Kassassin

Anyone else notice that Conacher is an absolute pain in the ass for other teams? That kid is the definition of Pesky.

  • karlssens

    Conacher = Gallagher

Both are excellent at what they do.. agitate with a shit eating grin, and put up some offense. As much as I hate Gallagher, he’s a solid player. The two even fought in the playoffs haha.

    • Righteous Smoke

      Conacher > Gallagher

  • karlssens

We should be good boys ;)

  • Righteous Smoke

    My prediction, 4-1 Sens!
MaCarthur or Ryan gets the Hatty! Stick it to ‘em!
    SUCK IT CARLYLE!!

  • Icelevel

new format is very nice imo. well done. should be a good game. macarthur scores

  • karlssens

    I say 3-2 Sens.
    Spezza
    Macarthur
    Conacher

  • Andersonfan40

Glad to see Craig Anderson get the shutout looks like he
    is in midseason form.
Just wondering how Clarke MacArthur looked yesterday
    in his debut?

    • The Apostle

He was very solid. If he wasn’t our best forward he was certainly in the top 2. Very solid signing by Murray that got ignored or crapped on because of what had happened in the hours preceding his signature. Good on the puck, smart player, linked up well with his line-mates. Responsible in all 3 zones. Nothing really not to like about his game.

      • The Kassassin

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Clarky looks like he’s going to fit right in with Turris (who also looked great last night).

  • Geoff

Fantastic site Chirp! Hope the other sens fans love it too!

C’mon sens, hand those leafs a nice, convincing loss…and feel free to knock out Orr & that punk Kadri too!!

  • SensChirp

Just about an hour to go till puck drop. Let’s get some predictions going. I want score and goal scorers for both teams. Anybody gets it exactly right, gets a prize of some sort.

    I’ll say 4-2 Ottawa
    OTT-Spezza (2), Ryan, Pageau
    TOR- Kadri, Van Riemsdyk

    • karlssens

Just have to have kadri scoring eh?

      • Mexican Baby Jesus

        3-2 Ottawa.
        Ott – Greening, Ryan (2)
        Torr – Franson, Kessel

  • 57gord

Kassian in, hope he’ll be useful. I see he’s now listed at 240lbs. So I believe that’s up about 8lbs from last year. Hope also that that’s muscle and not wedding cake! LOL.
Shake hands and go to youir corners……….let the game(s) begin.

  • SENSor

I wonder if Randy Carlyle is really that bad?…No wonder Ryan and MacArthur are so happy to be here – everybody seems to love the walrus…

  • SensFanInMTL

NOOO! I’m stuck in the region where they’re airing the Habs/ Flyers game!

I’m streaming the Sens game online screw this.

Welllll of course Kassian draws in…. let’s go boys, beat the shit outta these queefbags come on boys wooooo.

  • SensFanInMTL

    Metallica – One

  • JGP44

Is the game on? The Gamecenter live feed has been stuck at ‘The game will return after the commercial break’ for 10 minutes now

  • SENSor

    Asshole Leafs fan!

  • karlssens

What a douche bag fan lmao

    • yannrock

Since I watch all games on gamecenter, I was not able to see what happened.

      what’s going on?

  • yannrock

    Let’s get it going now

  • canadianhockey4ever

    GO SENS!

  • Colin

It’s about friggin’ time! TO games and their over done intros are the worst.

  • SensFanInMTL

I’m not saying we’re weak but having one of Orr & MacLearen is better than having both. All 3 guys on the Smith line can fight so I’m not worried. Now let’s beat the shit outta these guys.

  • karlssens

    Here we go again… Fak!!

  • SensFanInMTL

It would appear that Kassian is on a line with Pageau & Condra while Greening is with Smith & Neil. And phuck them for scoring.

  • yannrock

    SHIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!!!!!!!

  • karlssens

    Wooo!

  • SensFanInMTL

WOOOOOO! What a pass by Cowen, thank you Turris. I hate the damn Leafs.

  • karlssens

Spezza looks slow man.. Turris looks much faster.

  • SENSor

    Fast-paced game so far!

    • yannrock

      Love it

  • yannrock

    Now I feel better

  • JGP44

ugh, missed both goals because my wife started watching something on youtube. Damn rural internet…

  • karlssens

    Turris is unbelievable

  • Millennium

Love MacArthur driving the net hard.

    That 2nd line is great!

  • SensFanInMTL

Turris & Wiercioch are now our two leading scorers.

  • karlssens

Reimer looks shaky so far.. We have to pounce

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Like I said before, I absolutely love Cory Conacher’s game. Does a fantastic job causing turnovers, using his teammates in the O-zone, while being a little pest. Good young player.

  • JGP44

I don’t care how we score the goals. Let’s just get them :)

  • yannrock

    2nd line rocks

  • karlssens

That second line really takes pressure off of spezza

    • Jacques

Wish the Spezza line would show some sense of urgency! Only guy skating on that line is Michalek!

  • SENSor

Sens playing a great road game so far – keep it up!

  • karlssens

    Power play boys

    • SensFanInMTL

Indeed. Let’s absolutely rape these phuckers.

    • SENSor

      Corvo’s time to shine!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I would really love to see Greening reunited with Paj and Condra on the third line. They were great last night. Why break em up?

    • yannrock

I think Kassian messed up that line. He should play with Smith and Neil IMO

  • JGP44

    Raymond sold that one

  • SensFanInMTL

God I hope that 1st line does something. And soon. There can’t be too many games with them being held pointless. And Hughson’s comment to boo Alfie to remember him is just ignorant. Considering the fact he doesn’t play with us anymore.

    CBC’s announcers = munching gooches

    • yannrock

Agreed! They are Leaf homers for sure

      • SensFanInMTL

Unlike that pic, a Sens Homer!

        • yannrock

          LOL. You got me

  • karlssens

    Fucking penalties

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Selfish penalties by Smith and Karlsson.

  • SENSor

    Those tricky 5 on 3′s…

  • karlssens

I don’t think I’ve wanted to win a game so bad

    • JGP44

The stakes went up as soon as I saw Khadri’s celebration

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Kyle Turris is feeling it.

  • SensFanInMTL

I hope Turris isn’t on a streak, then will disappear for a week. Because he’s absolutely killing it so far. Good for him.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Other than the bad penalties, excellent period for the Sens. Dominating every aspect of the game they need to keep it up and the goals will come.

    • hq8

well, i think EK65 needs to get his real game on. playing a little timid i think.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

EK65 needs to stay out of the box.

  • hq8

man why does karlsson disappear in games at ACC…… its the one team he should dominate even if he doesnt dominate any other team in the NHL

  • karlssens

If only we had a functioning power play

  • hq8

also on turris’s last chance, did people see the play in the back where cowen absolutely destroyed chicken shit kadri. kadri went in for a hit and cowen utterly cleaned him out while also taking him out of the play.

  • yannrock

Kadri bugs me. Something about him I can’t stand

    • yannrock

Come to think of it I feel the same way about Subban

  • Jacques

When I hear the know It ALLS say that Turris will never be a number one center! Bah, he has been our best player since last Year. Always going full tilt, some other Centers should follow his lead!

    • Colin

Turris looks much stronger on the puck this year. Much harder to push around and he is taking advantage of it.

      • hq8

yup, he has a very very different body language this year: read Stronger and more confident

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

    Turris is a beast.

  • Jacques

    Smith had a rough period!

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

I really hope our top line finds some chemistry fast.

    • yannrock

Agreed! Not that impressed so far. Michalek drives the net hard, but they can’t seem to sync up

  • karlssens

Put Conacher on the top line with Spezza and Ryan. They need a smarter player to play with.

    • yannrock

Not sure about that. I would not break up the 2nd line. They are playing very well. Plus Michalek has shown lots of energy. I think it’s just a matter of Spezza and Ryan finding each other on the ice IMO

    • Jacques

I think maybe Ryan should go 2L right winger. Turris would get him going! Lol

  • karlssens

Michalek is a hell of a player.. But if they don’t start clicking they will need to change things up.

    • yannrock

We need to stay patient. Chemistry between Spezza, Ryan and Michalek may take a few games to build. Spezza did not play much in camp

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

      Inadvertent

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Spezz needs to use his teammates more. He can learn from Turris

    • yannrock

The Leafs stick to Spezza like glue tonight

      • yannrock

He needs to find a way to open himself up

        • Jacques

          He has to skate!

  • SENSor

    Nice effort by Kassian!

    • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Impressed with his plays tonight lol.

      • yannrock

        So am I. Good positioning

      • SENSor

Yeah, me too. I find his skating and passing skills are really under-rated by the fan base…

    • SensChirp

He’s had a couple good shifts tonight actually.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Boy oh boy. The Sens are getting their chances. They need to cash in.

  • karlssens

How is that not a penalty?

    • JGP44

      Hard to explain…

  • karlssens

    Cowen

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

JARED COWEN. IVE BEEN IMPRESSED WITH HIM SINCE LAST NIGHT. LOOKS IMPROVED. THE SECOND LINE IS GODLY.

  • SENSor

    WHOO HOO!

  • Colin

    Cowen is a beast too!

  • SensFanInMTL

That second line and Cowen are killing it. This is excellent.

  • karlssens

    Turris.. Wow.

Love some of the calls. Same thing we get called for is a different story for them.

  • SENSor

Turris three points – good golly!

  • SensFanInMTL

We have the goals and our players have points. Let’s get more!!

  • karlssens

Kyle Turris’ best game as a Senator .

  • SensFanInMTL

If we broke up the Greening – Pageau- Condra line, at least we can try out Greening- Pageau – Da Costa and keep Greening with Smith & Neil. That line is doing alright.

    • Jacques

I think Smith is worse than Condra though.

  • SENSor

Cowen + Weircioch = #1 defensive pairing on the Sens?

  • karlssens

Kessel is a very ugly man

    • Jacques

No need to worry Phil and Bozak are bunk buddies if you know what I mean! He’s off the market.

  • SensFanInMTL

oh great. Whoever knocked Kessel on his ass will now become the new Alfie.

    • SensFanInMTL

      Oh it’s just Condra.

  • SENSor

    The Sloth is hurt…

  • karlssens

Jesus, how about tossing us a pp

  • karlssens

We score 4 even strength, they score 1.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Sens need to stay out the box. 5 on 5 it’s a clinic. Need to keep it that way.

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Breaking News: Kessel’s visor is injured.

    • yannrock

Maybe he will swing his stick around tonight!

  • Tooks

Conacher playing like a beast man and he 5’8….Love his heart! CMac keeps playing like this its soon gonna be Alfie who?

  • Tooks

Finally we get away with a few non calls…should of been a 4min on Condra there. Game aint over folks, Andy needs to shut the door in the 3rd!

    • Jacques

He wasn’t bleeding, so stop crying like Phil you troll!

      • Tooks

Yes his lip was cut, watch the game. But who cares the refs didnt even call a penalty, our win.

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Sens need to score a quick one early in the third…

    • hq8

  • hq8

    bullshit

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

  • karlssens

    Karlsson can you wake up?

  • yannrock

    Shitty!

  • Colin

If the fscking refs would call interference against the Leafs, that puck doesn’t even leave the Leafs zone.

  • hq8

man karlsson better have the GWG in him like last night. this is not usual

    • JGP44

well, he’s still on track for 40 goals this year…

  • yannrock

First line needs to step up

  • SENSor

Can Bobby get the first of his 50 tonight? Please???

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    That was tripping?

    • Colin

2 min for being too strong

  • Tooks

Methot having a bad period so far…need to kill this!

  • karlssens

Leafs are playing with a lot of intensity

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

    What a fucking joke.

  • karlssens

Phillips has been our steadiest defenseman

  • karlssens

    Gotta score on those chances

  • Tooks

PW46 almost making forget EK65 this game!!

    • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

      That’s a good thing lol.

  • yannrock

    Karlsson where are you?

  • karlssens

If they let this game go, that would be a huge tease lol

  • Colin

Penalties 6-2 for Leafs. Peel and Rooney earning their pay tonight. I am not saying the Sens haven’t deserved their calls, just that the Leafs are getting away with a lot.

  • karlssens

    Stop shooting at his chest.

  • Tooks

Smitty playing well, just cant aim but getting good chances.

  • Tooks

Thank God JVR cant aim either :P

  • Tooks

Pageau, Ryan, Michalek have been pretty quiet. Need more from those dudes. Galchenyuk, Gallagher and Eller lighting it up in MTL.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

MacArthur should have scored so many goals tonight

  • Tooks

    Fuck CMac!!

  • Tooks

    Booby looked hurt…Please God no!

    • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Would go with our great luck of having our stars all out of our lineup.

  • hq8

ok so with roughly 10 minutes to go in this one, the ryan-spezz-mm9 line still needs a lot of work. too chippy and too stop-and-go. there are some flashes but still.

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      Relax. The goals will come

      • SENSor

        Tonight?

      • hq8

i know i know, im just saying its not where everyone expected at this MOMENT.

  • hq8

can neil just do to the leafs what he did to the sabres in 2007.

  • Tooks

Hopefully guys get the message by Conacher, guy goes after Orr…our smallest player. Get dirty Sens!

    • SENSor

He had to – Phillips was watching the fan dancing to John Denver…

  • Tooks

CMac has like 10 shots! lol

  • SENSor

I’m actually happy with the guaranteed point…

…always happy with a point on the road!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Sens are lucky to be tied. I’m being straight honest with you. Good point.

    • Tooks

Yeah pretty much, Reimer sucked, only reason we are in this game. Leafs been all over us.

  • karlssens

We deserve the win.. Considering we only had 2 pps..

    • Tooks

We dont deserve anything. Play to win.

  • Tooks

Fuck Ranger almost buried us!! lol

  • karlssens

Karlsson had an equally poor game to Turris’ great game

  • Millennium

Man, seeing Karlsson play like that is so depressing. You just can’t help but wonder if its lingering injury issues.

  • SENSor

LOL – Brian Burke looks like an old drunk!

  • Tooks

Why are we getting deked out of our pants tonight?!?! Bolland… Really…

  • JGP44

as much as I hate to admit it, that was a nice drag and curl by Bolland

  • Tooks

Wow got away with another one!! lol in OT to boot!

    • Colin

Only because the Leafs got away with dumping Smith and Conacher seconds before.

  • Tooks

    Spezza hasnt played all OT

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      He has.

  • SENSor

    This is messed up…

  • Tooks

Bolland looks like he’s gonna be the new Sens killer….damn it!

    • SENSor

Relax – we haven’t played one full game yet…

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    That’s game.

  • karlssens

    So many ups and downs

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Love how Bolland just falls like a sack of shit.

  • karlssens

    Fair result

    • SENSor

      Yeah, for us – lol

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Sens are EXTREMELY lucky to be going to shootout. Have been outplayed past 25 minutes of the game.

  • karlssens

Not bad for a back to back game

  • Tooks

    Blues winning 7-0 lol

  • Tooks

Andy is a beast in SO!!

  • Tooks

WOW! and Raymond was a PTO haha fuck!

    • Mexican Baby Jesus

He had a good game for sure. But don’t jizz your pants from that shootout move lol

      • Colin

        CBC sure did! :-)

        • Mexican Baby Jesus

Pretty sure CBC said “those are the goals the NHL are talking about removing from the shootout”

          • Colin

They also said that Raymond and the puck were in constant motion in their justification. When was the rule changed to “constant motion”?

  • Colin

    Bullshit goal.

  • Millennium

    Balls

  • karlssens

    I am livid right now.

  • JGP44

    Nice effort by MM9

    • Tooks

Effort only gets you so far, need to finish.

  • SENSor

    Cheaters!

  • Tooks

Same old Spezz, shoot glove side…

  • karlssens

    Fucking Bernier.

    Ryan, Michalek, Pageau, Karlsson brutal.

    • Jacques

Zack Smith was the worst, 2 give always in the slot. Can’t win a face off in the last few minutes. Plus just shoots the puck into the goalies belly all the time. He needs someone to show him how to shoot the puck, and please don’t let that person be Condra,

    • marshy_rules

Goal aside, don’t forget Spezza ! If he could get his f—— feet moving, he could stay out of the box…

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Lucky to take a point tonight. Sens played like shit. I’ll take the point.

    • Conor_smythe

Ottawa has been really sloppy with their passing

I’d say we managed to steal a point tonight, all things considered

  • SENSor

    3 out of 4 points, boys – it’s okay…

  • karlssens

They threw that game away. No matter what we can’t beat the leafs. What’s it going to take?

  • Colin

Difference was Leafs got 2PPG on 6 tries. Stay out of the box.

    • Mat

I was livid about the officiating. The Methot penalty was horse shit. Phaneuf did the exact same thing on Turris in the second. No call. But then we got away with a few in the end of the game..

  • karlssens

I don’t care about the loss. It’s who we lost to. Now those plugs are 3-0

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

I love Raymond’s stop of motion goal that counted.

    • Jacques

That’s a bullshit move , that puck started going the other way.

  • SENSor

Tough back-to-back games to start the season…Good job, Sens!

  • Conor_smythe

I dunno about that spinorama, I’ve seen some that are clearly legit, but that one wasn’t

    • Jacques

It cAn never really ever be legit unless you let go of the puck while you spin, cuz if you’re holding the puck it will go the other way. No way around it, it should just be a banned move.

  • Mat

Bottom line, we were up two and shat the bed. I understand everyone’s frustration but its a done deal. Moving on.

  • Colin

3 out of 4 points on the road ain’t too bad. 4 more road games before they get to play at home. Kings, Sharks, Ducks & Coyotes next. Frigging brutal scheduling to start the season.

    • Mat

I like that schedule. Every team has a shitty stretch at one point or another. Its an opportunity for the team to bond early. And lets get the tough road trips out of the way early, while everyone is fresh, and not on the post Olympics final stretch…

  • Mexican Baby Jesus

    1. Needed that killer instinct in the third.
    2. Bernier is good!
    3. Karlsson brutal. Guess he was a little tired from the minutes last night…Might just be a conditioning thing….always tough starting season back to back games.
    4. Hate losing to Toronto…more so when they are undefeated..sigh
    5. Looking forward to the next few games

  • Sensturion

I had a feeling this was going to end badly when Conacher had his stick two-handed out of his hand in front of the ref and he said play on.
Yes, Ottawa lost the game with poor play, but no one can deny that the refs seemed a little too lenient against Toronto. Cowen deserved that penalty in OT, but I’m wondering where all the tripping and hooking penalties against TO were. Not to mention Phaneuf’s “clean” head check against Ryan. Sure it’s ok to stand a guy up, but not with both elbows aiming for the players head.
Line 2 was lights out yet again. Methot and Karlsson were absolutely brutal tonight. Our first line lacks a lot of speed. Hopefully Maclean can get the defence to tighten up. They cost us the game tonight.

    • MikeS

I live in the GTA and was listening to the toronto radio on the way home from the game. Pretty much all leaf fans are feeling lucky from the refs tonight

  • Mat

Anyone got news on the Boro and Stone injuries? Tough start in Bingo.. Hope its nothing too serious.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

GUYS. We are VERYYYY lucky to have left with a point, let alone survive until shootoout. I’ll take it everytime man. Forget that it’s the Leafs and you’ll realize how lucky the team is. Didn’t play well tonight.

    • Sensturion

Neither team played well. With the amount of turnovers on both sides this could’ve easily been a 7 or 8 goal game for either team.

  • Mexican Baby Jesus

Btw anybody see Silfverberg goal tonight?

    • yannrock

      What a shot that was.

      His wrist shot is incredible

  • yannrock

Defence sucked big time tonight. Although Cowen and Wiercocioch were good at times. Karlsson and Methot were horrible. Way too many turn overs.

The top line was practically invisible all night. They need to get their shit together. I know it’s just the beginning of the season and they will probably work some kinks out.

The PP needs to be better and they need to stay out of the box. I think they are lucky to get one point.

I hope next game is better

    • Sensturion

How can anyone comment of the PP when we only had one or two of them?

      • yannrock

0 for 5 on the PP in 2 games. I believe it needs a bit of work.

With 2 or 3 PP a game, they better score

  • Jacques

Ceci the winner in OT. A goal and an assist for him. Zibby scored the equalizer in the third to send it to OT. Grant had an unassisted shorty again, he had 7-8 short handed goals last year.

  • Kielbasa

Brutal game tonight. The defense totally abandoned Anderson out there. Phillips and Corvo looked like they needed walkers. Do not play those two together. Karlsson looked like he was wearing the wrong jersey the way he played for most of the game. And that was one of Methot’s worst as a Sens.
Thank god it’s still the beginning of the season. They need to rediscover what pesky is.
One positive was Turris. He looked amazing out there.

  • Sensturion

You should see the panic on the NHL game recap boards. Game 2 of 82 and people are already calling for the 1st line to be blown up. Did they play well tonight? Meh. They were better than yesterday though.

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

Silfverberg with two goals for the Ducks now. Ryan, you better start catching up lol.

  • hq8

    so positives:
cowen, Pw46, turris, macarthur and conacher
    negatives:
anderson, 1st line, pageau line, smith line, phillips+corvo, karlsson+methot

when your negatives outweigh the positives……..you all know what happens

toronto had two lines going, we only had one.
spezza was really weak on the 4-4 goal with the kessel play, basically let him get around him
    karlsson weak night all night
i thought andy should have had the lupul 4-3 goal.

thought that smith and neil were particularly useless tonight. hell even kassian looked better than them in limited minutes.
also think that kassian should have been sent out after pw46 hit.

  • hq8

also TB beat CHI in a shootout too 3-2 after having no shots in the 1st period. i guess the world isnt so unfair lol

  • Aaron 2.0

Well, I never really get too high or low with a shoot-out loss (or win). The fact that you don’t see them in the play-offs says it all to me; it’s just a gimmick. Games should just end in ties after 5 minutes of OT.

The team was lucky to get 1 point tonight. The defense was horrendous.

I’m starting to get a little worried about Ryan. I get that it takes time to find chemistry. But, he just doesn’t look ready to play. If that’s the case i’m sure he’ll get better. But, it’s not really a good sign for a guy who had problems with his old team to finally get a trade, and not show up ready to play …

    • Dan Hill

I hate the shootout almost as much as I hate The Leafs
but it did provide us with a point !But I don’t think luck
had anything to do with it
I think it’s still too early to to scrap the MRS line.
every game I’ve seen so far has been slightly better than
      pre-season hockey exciting but sloppy
Spezza stands out because it’s only his second game
I think it’ll tighten up across the league and Spezza will be fine with
Ryan and Milo just about the time The Sens have their
home opener in under 2 weeks

  • MartinSENS

after watching this game, I got reminded how much I f****** hate leafs.. hopefully next time we can get the two points… GO SENS GO

  • Matt

    Silfverburg two goals two games…
    Overwhelming sad face.

  • hq8

so, should the sens have played DaCosta and Gryba instead? Kassian barely played and Corvo was also minimally used.

  • T K

Missed both games due to southern travel and a PVR malfunction. Turris seems to be hot based on the game highlights. Looking forward to the game vs. L.A..

On a lighter note, the idiots in Boronto have started planning the parade. Let the losing streak commence! (It’s inevitable….)

  • GoSensGoEh

The game didn’t start out well for Ottawa. They seemed to be rushing with the puck and acting like it was a hot potato. They did settle down, thankfully. Spezza Played well, and Milan was okay, but Ryan still doesn’t look smooth out there. His play away from the puck needs some more work. The game announcers and video crew made a point of showing Ryan not back checking on a Toronto goal. I’m sure the coach will have a chat with him, and Ryan seems amiable about doing what the team wants and needs. It is just 2 games into the season, lots of time to get going. Does anyone know if Ryan is a fast starter or slow starter??

MacArthur, Turis, & Conacher are smokin the other teams right now.

Smith with a dangle and shot made me laugh, too bad it wasn’t a goal.

Corvo scares me. When he makes a pass, he just stops and watches. At one point, I was practically yelling at the TV for him to get back to the point but he just stood there near the top of the circle watching. I miss Benoit.

    • yannrock

I also preferred Benoit over Corvo as 7th D

  • GoSensGoEh

Okay, here’s a stretch in regards to stats :-)

Ryan has 7 shots on goal, so for a full season he is on pace for 287 shots, multiplied by his career shooting percentage of near 14% makes him on pace for 40 goals, woohoo!!

This glass is definitely half full, lol.

  • Floridasensfan

They looked tired in the third, back to back caught up to us, I don’t mind back to backs when both teams played the night before, starting the season with two back to backs is brutal.

Anyways it is what it is, as others have said 3 points out of 4 is not the end of the world.

Was looking forward to see Macarthur score, was not in the cards but really like his play so far.

We have fast forwards, defense not so much (other than Karlsson)
Leafs forwards seem fast compared to them anyways.

  • Floridasensfan

Certainly not opposed to a Kassian trade anymore, I was one that liked what he brought but he is more of a liability than benefit, at least thats the way I felt last night.

If we make a trade I hope we get a tough guy that can play hockey.

Ryan looks like the physical play is new to him, for sure the refs the way they are towards Ottawa is an eye opener for him.

If the play is not as physical in the west Silfverberg will dominate.

Can’t judge by only two games, lots of season to go.

  • John

Turris and the whole second line were very good. Sens maintained possession and dominated on the Fenclose stat all game long. I don’t know what some of you other fans were watching but Ottawa more or less dominated that game. Even the Michalek-Spezza-Ryan line, which many of you seem to think had a lousy night, was basically owning the puck every time they were on the ice. How little did you hear the name Kessel tonight, or Lupul, or Kadri? That’s because Ottawa dominated the puck. Nine times out of ten Ottawa wins that game 5-6-7 to 1. So many chances to score just didn’t quite click. The goals Toronto scored were because of typical early season breakdowns. A few bad penalties to give up and a few lazy plays defensively on those PK’s // in general. Oh… and did I mention Ottawa was on the SECOND half of BACK-TO-BACK games and STILL skated all over Toronto? We beat the crap out of them. What game were you EFFING watching?
