Let the Games Begin

For the Ottawa Senators organization, it is a fitting opponent to face in the first significant event of the 2013/2014 season.

When the rookies from the Senators take the ice this afternoon in London, Ontario, it will be against the rookies from the Pittsburgh Penguins.  Fitting because it’s the same organization that ended their season just a few months ago.  This afternoon’s game kicks off at 2:00 PM with the game available on Rogers here in Ottawa and on the radio at The Team 1200.

The yearly rookie tournament is always the first sign that a new NHL season is just around the corner.  The three game round robin tourney will see the Sens rookies take on rookies from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Chicago Blackhawks.

Ottawa wraps up the tournament on Sunday against Toronto.

Line ups are a little tricky to come by for a tournament like this but one of the interesting forward trios from Day One of the Camp yesterday saw roster hopeful jean Gabriel Pageau skating on a line with Shane Prince and Curtis Lazar.  Three of the more exciting prospects in the Sens system right now.

Sylvain St. Laurent tweeted out some of the other combinations from yesterday’s session and you can see those below;

Francois Brassard is expected to make the start in the Ottawa goal although I would not be surprised to see one of the other goalies (Chris Driedger or Andrew Hammond) see action in the game as well.

It may just be the rookies but after a long summer in the Nation’s Capital, it sure is good to see the Ottawa Senators back in action.
