Game Day and Rumours

(UPDATE 3:04 PM)- It has been a long time coming.  As I mentioned on this site a few times over the past month, the Ottawa Senators are getting a new scoreboard at Scotiabank Place.  The Sens will make the announcement at a press conference to be held at 6:00 PM tonight.

After a tough loss at the hands of the Boston Bruins, the Sens will look to get back on track against another Eastern Conference power house.

Even without Sidney Crosby in the line up, the Pittsburgh Penguins are a handful and will give the Ottawa Senators all they can handle tonight at Scotiabank Place.  The Sens are playing the second of four in their holiday homestand.(

Things got a little heated between these two teams after a meeting in late November.

An incident between Crosby and Foligno led to some verbal sparring between the two teams that included Bryan Murray suggesting that he would have more toughness in the line up the next time the teams met.  Should be interesting to see if all the talk leads to anything on the ice.

Sergei Gonchar and Filip Kuba both took the morning skate but neither will play tonight against the Pens.  There is a chance they could both be ready to play on Tuesday though.  For now though, MacLean will go with the same line up as Wednesday night although there will be some juggling in the line combinations.

Here is how the Sens are expected to line up

Greening-Spezza-Alfredsson
Foligno-Regin-Neil
Daugavins-Smith-Condra
Konopka-Winchester-Butler

Cowen-Karlsson
Phillips-Rundblad
Carkner-Lee

Alex Auld gets the start in goal.  Tonight's game is available on Sportsnet and RDS or you can head down to the Bank and take the action in live. Contact Mike McCarthy at mccarthym@ottawasenators.com for details.

  • Darren Dreger mentioned this morning that Kyle Turris could be on the move today. We know the Senators have shown an interest in the past but I've been told they really aren't in the mix right now.  I would assume the Calgary Flames are the front runners.
  • Marc Crawford sparked some speculation last night when he suggested the Philadelphia Flyers offer Brayden Schenn in exchange for Sergei Gonchar.  The Flyers need some help on the blueline with Pronger done for the year and Gonchar and Kuba are both guys they could take a look at.
