Deadline Day on SensChirp

SensChirp April 3, 2013 0

(UPDATE 12:32 PM)- It's quiet. Obviously. But the good news is people I have spoken with today still feel as though the Sens will make a trade before the day is out.  With so many teams showing a real interest in Bishop, it would be surprising if he didn't move before 3:00 PM. 2.5 hours to go…

(UPDATE 11:28 AM)- Sens Assistant GM Tim Murray spoke to the media and acknowledged that there is plenty of interest in Ben Bishop right now but suggested it will take a significant offer to get a deal done.  The Ottawa Senators really feel like they're in the driver's seat on this one and can wait for the right deal to come along. Murray also says the Sens are looking at a depth forward and depth defenceman.

(UPDATE 11:12 AM)- Bob McKenzie has tweeted that there is a better than 50% chance Ben Bishop moves today.  As quiet as Deadline Day has been, that pretty much amounts to a guarantee. McKenzie mentions Phoenix. Edmonton, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Carolina are the others with serious interested.

(UPDATE 10:27 AM)- In an ideal world, the offer for Ben Bishop is a high pick and a player that can help the Senators right now, potentially a top six forward.  The Flyers are one of the teams that has shown interest and rumours suggest they offered Zac Rinaldo and a 2nd at one point.  Offers will have to be better than that for the Sens to make a move.

(UPDATE 9:44 AM)- Bruce Garrioch is now suggesting that as many as six teams have contacted the Senators regarding Ben Bishop.  Philadelphia, Tampa Bay, Edmonton and Phoenix are in there for sure.  Garrioch also suggesting that Carolina has an interest. I've read Calgary and Columbus elsewhere.  Murray could have an old fashioned bidding war on his hands.

(UPDATE 9:31 AM)- Pierre Lebrun suggesting on TSN that the offers are improving and his sense is Ben Bishop does indeed move today.  Ottawa ideally looking to get back a 2nd round pick which they initially gave up to get Bishop and would like a prospect or a roster player back in the deal.

(UPDATE 8:17 AM)- First update of the day. TSN's Bob McKenzie suggesting that Ben Bishop is one of the most attractive goalie options on the market.  Edmonton, Phoenix and Tampa Bay have all shown an interest.  Price could go as high as a 2nd+prospect or even a 1st round pick.  Tough decision for Murray to make.

After all the wheeling and dealing around the NHL the past few days, it's hard to tell if there are really many moves left to make.

With that said, there are still a couple key pieces in play and one of those players is right here in Ottawa. Ottawa GM Bryan Murray is getting plenty of calls about goaltender Ben Bishop with as many as five teams showing an interest heading into Deadline Day. We'll have all the latest here on SensChirp today.

In order to keep all the conversation, all updates, assuming there are some of course, will appear at the top of this post or in the comment section below.

Unless a deal does break, all discussion and news will appear at the top of this post. Be sure to also follow me on Twitter @SensChirp as I'll be posting updates there as well.

In all honesty, it's not exactly setting up to be a busy day for the Sens.

They'd like to add a top six forward, perhaps an affordable right hand shot defenceman and have to make a decision on Ben Bishop. With that said, the organization continues to say they are more than content to stand pat on Deadline Day and wait for their injured players to return to the line up. We'll see how things shake out today.

Happy Deadline Day, everyone!
