Trade Deadline Day on SensChirp (Karlsson Stays)

(UPDATE 3:14 PM)- And now the Senators have pulled off a minor trade, flipping RFA-to-be Nick Shore to the Calgary Flames. The Senators get back a 7th round pick in 2019.

(UPDATE 3:08 PM)- After a late push by the Vegas Golden Knights and apparently a last minute offer by the Washington Capitals, the deadline has passed and Erik Karlsson is still an Ottawa Senator. Exhale, Sens fans.

(UPDATE 12:02 PM)- Yesterday, the Senators placed both Johnny Oduya and Alex Burrows on waivers in a move that came as a bit of a surprise to some. Alex Burrows cleared, as expected. He still has another year left on his deal at $2.5 mil.  Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers claimed Johnny Oduya.  The Senators have just hit the ice for practice. Erik Karlsson is out there.

(UPDATE 9:42 AM)- According to Elliotte Friedman, the Ottawa Senators have traded defenceman Ian Cole to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Senators get a 3rd round pick in 2020 and centre Nick Moutrey. Moutrey was a 4th round pick in the 2013 Draft and has had three relatively unproductive seasons in the AHL.

(UPDATE 9:36 AM)- More insiders letting it be known that a Karlsson deal is looking more unlikely as the deadline approaches. Now John Shannon, Bruce Garrioch and Darren Dreger have all suggested that a deal is unlikely to happen today based on where the conversation currently stands.  The teams that are interested- including the Lightning, Golden Knights and Sharks- would have to step up in the next 5.5 hours to change Pierre Dorion’s mind.

(UPDATE 9:02 AM)- As of this morning, most of the insiders (Garrioch, Dreger) seem to be pouring cold water on the idea of a Karlsson trade getting done before 3:00 PM. Difficult deal to make under tight timelines and the Senators have made it clear they want a “King’s Ransom” in return. Not sure the Senators have seen everyone’s best offer yet though, especially from Tampa Bay and Vegas.

(UPDATE 8:46 AM)- Last night it sounded like things were starting to ramp up on the Erik Karlsson front but as of this morning, the offers still aren’t where they need to be.  The San Jose Sharks were apparently making a serious push last night and offering multiple pieces in return. It’s worth noting that they would have the cap space to take on Bobby Ryan as well.

(UPDATE 8:36 AM)- The Senators have a lot of things on the go today but perhaps the easiest deal to make will be that of Ian Cole.  Darren Dreger mentioned this morning that the Winnipeg Jets could be a potential suitor.  It’s believed that Ottawa is hoping to get at least a 3rd round pick in return and potentially a 2nd rounder.
