Trade Deadline Day on SensChirp (Prince Trade to Islanders)

(UPDATE 3:07 PM)- Looked like the Senators would go through the day without a deal but at the last minute, they sent forward Shane Prince to the New York Islanders in exchange for a third round pick.  The full deal ends up being Shane Prince and a 7th round pick in 2016 to the New York Islanders for a 3rd round pick in 2016.

(UPDATE 10:26 AM)- Brent Wallace spoke with Bryan Murray this morning and for the most part, things sound pretty quiet.  The news about Turris has them thinking about possibly adding a centre but other than that, not a whole lot going on.  Travis Yost mentioned on Twitter that the asking price for Patrick Wiercioch is a 3rd round pick and for Shane Prince a second. Those are probably the two names to watch today.

(UPDATE 10:21 AM)-  It’s not trade related but an interesting update from Bryan Murray this morning as he confirmed that they’ll shut down centre Kyle Turris indefinitely.  Turris has been trying to play through a high-ankle sprain the last little while but really hasn’t been all that effective.  Have to admire his courage in trying to play through the injury but the timing is right to let him focus on getting back to 100%.  Obviously this move leave the Senators pretty thin down the middle.

After days and weeks of speculation, it’s finally here.

Trade Deadline Day.

This year has been oddly quiet for the Ottawa Senators in the rumour mill‎. With the playoffs still a long shot and no high profile UFAs on the books, the Senators don’t really fit into the buyer or seller category.  And that usually takes some of the fun out of deadline day. But that doesn’t mean Bryan Murray and his staff will be completely silent.

Patrick Wiercioch, Shane Prince and Alex Chiasson have all been mentioned as trade candidates. Of those three, Wiercioch is the most likely to go today. They’re also doing some not so urgent shopping for a young forward to add up front. Not a rental but someone ‎who could fit in with the organization for a long time.

The early rumours today are that the Sens are out on Jonathan Drouin but honestly, until a deal happens elsewhere, I still consider Ottawa as a factor in those discussions. Tampa Bay is set on getting a piece that helps them this year but perhaps they strike out on that front and circle back to Ottawa? We shall see.

Have also heard that the Senators spoke to Dallas, St. Louis and Anaheim about young for‎wards and last night, we heard Ottawa loosely linked to Nail Yakupov.

So no guarantees but what we do know is Murray and the rest of the front office will be working the phones today to see what’s out there. As always, updates will appear at the top of this post and I’ll pass along any rumours I hear over the course of day.

Happy Trade Deadline Day everyone!
