For the second consecutive day, the Ottawa Senators have come to terms with one of the team’s restricted free agents.
Yesterday it was Ryan Dzingel signing a one year, two way contract. Today, Frederik Claesson has followed suit, signing a one year two-way contract of his own.
Both Dzingel and Claesson are considered pleasant surprises from this past season. Dzingel showed flashes of speed and skill in his 30 games with the big club last year, picking up 9 points along the way. Meanwhile, Claesson appeared in 16 NHL games, including a surprising amount of time with Erik Karlsson.
Both guys will be in tough to crack the roster in training camp this year so having each of them on a two way deal is a nice luxury for the Coaching Staff and Management. There were rumours that Claesson was considering an offer to play in Sweden if he didn’t get a one way deal this time around so this is certainly good news for the organization.
Claesson will earn $700,000 in the NHL and of $100,000 in the American Hockey League. Dzingel gets $750,000 in the NHL and $72,500 in the AHL.
Mike Hoffman, Cody Ceci and Matt Puempel are the only remaining restricted free agents.
