With Zack Smith on the shelf for an extended period of time (Coach Cameron said “months”) with a dislocated wrist, the Ottawa Senators have turned to the farm for some help.
Earlier this evening, the team announced the recall of Jean Gabriel Pageau from Binghamton of the American Hockey League. Pageau has 18 points in 25 games in the American Hockey League so far this season and has earned rave reviewed from the Coaching staff down there and Management with the big team. Bryan Murray has said it on a few occasions but Pageau should have made the team out of camp but got caught up in a bit of a numbers game and ended up in Bingo to start the year.
Rather than pout, Pageau has gone down there and worked hard and earned the call up he received on Sunday evening.
It’s been an interesting few days for the Senators with a couple veterans getting injured (Smith and Neil) and another (Phillips) being relegated to the press box. What was already a young team has become even younger but more significantly, quite a bit quicker. It will be interesting to see how Coach Cameron lines his team up at the morning skate tomorrow in Buffalo.
You get the sense we may see the best lineup of the season against the Sabres tomorrow night.
-Couple other roster notes today- Milan Michalek is coming off the injured reserve and is expected to play tomorrow. Marc Methot is back on the IR. Yeeeeesh.
