The overhaul behind the bench continues for the Ottawa Senators.
It has been rumoured for some time now but this morning the team made it official, adding Rob Cookson as an Assistant Coach to Guy Boucher. Cookson is a video specialist of sorts who has a ton of NHL and International experience. Like Boucher and Crawford, Cookson has been out of the NHL for a few years and will be eager to make his return to North America.
Cookson worked with Boucher at the 2015 Spengler Cup and has spent the past four seasons as an assistant to Crawford in Switzerland.
Still a ways to go until the season starts but it will be interesting to hear a little more about Boucher’s plans for his staff and how responsibilities will be divided. Boucher is known as a bit of a power play specialist so I would expect him to be heavily involved there while there has been talk that Crawford would be responsible for the defence. Cookson is known as a detail oriented guy with a skill-set that may lend itself more to an “eye in the sky” role.
Certainly nice to see the Senators going with some experienced guys behind the bench this time around.
