Report- Senators Interested in Matt Murray

As we enter a sixth month without the Ottawa Senators, we’re all starting to grow increasingly desperate. Any Sens news will do right now.

I would be lying if I said my heart didn’t skip a beat the other day when I saw an OFFICIAL news release pop up on the Senators Twitter account. I was only mildly disappointed when it turned out to be an announcement about a Halloween party the team is hosting at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Anyway, in these quiet times, just about any piece of Sens news will do.

Ah yes. That’s the stuff.

You can read Frank Seravalli’s full breakdown on the goalie market here.

That the Senators are possibly monitoring the league’s goalie market isn’t really a huge surprise. With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Anders Nilsson and with Craig Anderson’s contract expiring, it makes sense that Pierre Dorion and co. would be considering their options.

Not sure their level of desperation would match the other team’s referenced above but it could be an interesting use of one of Ottawa’s many draft picks.

At 26 years of age, Matt Murray is coming off a down year with the Penguins although perhaps he can be forgiven, considering he already has two Stanley Cup rings to his name. Matt Murray just finished the final year of his current deal and is a restricted free agent this off-season.

The Penguins are clearly looking to shake things up a little bit this summer and with the emergence of Tristan Jarry, Murray has suddenly become a piece the Penguins would consider moving.

From Ottawa’s standpoint, this feels like tire kicking more than anything but perhaps a clue when it comes to one of their off-season priorities.

Rumours!
