Price Steals Win for Canadiens- Highlights

-I said this after the Colorado loss but I’ll say it again- the first two periods of this hockey game was as good as the Ottawa Senators have looked all season. If the Canadiens were getting “good” goaltending through the first 40 minutes- the score would have been 8-3. If he was average, the game Sens could have easily had 10 goals after 40 minutes. Instead, Carey Price was spectacular.

-It’s a shame the Sens took their foot off the gas in the third because I really believe we were seeing one of the greatest single game goaltending performances of all time over the course of the first 40 minutes.  If Carey Price can bring that game to Sochi, Team Canada should be just fine.

-Lots of people talking about the unfortunate game tying goal off the skate of Jared Cowen. The deflection of his skate was just bad luck but the bad decision that led to the turnover was completely avoidable. People have been hard on Cowen this season and with good reason. He has struggled to find his game through the first 49 games but from what I’ve seen, has shown signs of improvement. Problem now seems to be because he’s playing with Karlsson, Coach MacLean is playing him far too much. Might be time to reunite Methot and Karlsson.

-Mentioned this on Twitter the other day but the hugely inflated minutes of Cowen could be a bit of a showcasing on the part of the Ottawa Senators. Moving Cowen would obviously be a tough decision to make because you know that as a young defenceman, he’s going to get better. But if the return included an impact forward, would you consider it?

-The MacArthur-Turris-Ryan line is the best.  They should be playing more.  You could make a pretty strong case that they should be playing the entire 60 minutes right now but I guess they need to rest sometimes.

-There are a lot of other great candidates this year but Erik Karlsson has again found his Norris Trophy form.  Guys like Keith, Pietrangelo, Weber, Suter, Subban and Bouwmeester are all having great seasons but in my opinion, Erik Karlsson is right there with him.  It took awhile for him to get there but there’s no doubt, Karlsson is back to 100%

-I made a comment on Subban’s celebration of the overtime winner last night that seemed to spark a ton of debate. I really don’t have a problem with players celebrating goals but I think it’s entirely acceptable that I would be slightly annoyed watching him celebrate so excessively. The Senators had dominated that game and deserved a better fate. He has every right to celebrate whatever way he chooses and as a fan of the team he had just scored against, I have every right to think he looked silly doing so.

  • LeafsSux

I will be at the Rangers game on Saturday and hope they play as well as they did last night. Glad we got the point but sure would of liked the extra,

  • my2sens

First, Chirp, I would like to say you have a very beautiful daughter! As a proud father of two, I know there isn’t anything more enjoyable then to sit and watch a game of hockey with them.

Second, last night. Absolutely fantastic game by the Sens who have shown they can play hard, strong solid hockey. The difference last night was goaltending and 1 bad bounce.

Third… I am a little sad that hockey is over. I didn’t know summer was here, but with Subban scoring the Cup winning goal last night, looks like it’s pool season!
PS – I have nothing against players wanting to celebrate, that’s fine, showboating with the crest in another barn…

    • SensChirp

      Thanks! Much appreciated

    • bluebuyyoo

“When you get in the end zone, act like you have been there before.”
      Bear Bryant

      • Miguel

… and like you will be there again, not like it is your last time… Subhan you clown!

  • SenaTHOR

Can’t say we deserved the game because we didn’t get more goals than the Habs. The two things that have hurt is all season a turnover and a botched save gave them the extra point. Overall a good game and Kudos to Price, best 4 goal against performance of the year.

  • thepez

I hate the Habs and especially Subban, but have no problem with his celebration. Hockey is a game of emotion and I wish we would see more.
If the Sens are showcasing Cowen then I think it’s a mistake. I know he has struggled but at 22 I would find it difficult to let him go. If the Sens were looking at trading him then it better be for someone like O’Reilly in Colorado.
Lastly, I normally don’t question our coach but I find it interesting and a bit concerning that Marc Methot played just over 15 minutes and played the least of the d-men, again. Plus, Bobby Ryan played just over 15 minutes way below top 6 minutes, again.
With the Olympic break coming I would hope the top players would play a ton with a three week break coming.

  • boom

How can there be any debate over Subban’s reaction? He’s a punk – always has been, always will be.
In 10 seconds, he showed why Team Canada struggled with the decision whether to include him on the team – despite his obvious talent.

    • SuperSENS

Subban’s reaction was over the top, but I disagree that he will always be that way. The issue is that the coaching staff, his teammates, and even the media seem to excuse the poor sportsmanlike behaviour because he’s a talented player. I wonder if he’s ever had anyone tell him to knock off the antics.

      • boom

Besides the coach and teammates, you mean? He has been told repeatedly not to be such a hot-dog ever since he got to the habs.
I stand by my statement – he will always be a punk.

        • 11010111101011111111010101

          P.K. = Punk Kid

  • Alcatraz

I hate Subban as much as the next person but we loved and adored Alfie for taking on the villain role versus Toronto. Toronto booed him every time he touched the puck and he ate it up. He knows what he did to Tuckler and the stick toss and he milked it

Subban wa sbooed every time he touched the puck last night. He is playing the villain role in our barn. Did he need to act like he won the cup? No. Did he just steal 2 points in a rival barn, after being booed all night. Yup, so he made us pay for it

Think no further than Joffrey Lupul at the all-star game in Ottawa, he played the villain role and soaked it up

If anything it makes the rivalry between Ottawa and Montreal that much better. There is bad blood and both teams knows it. Subban just made himself enemy # in the 613 area and that’s fine by me. He got hsi ass beat last year in the playoffs, and next time he walks into our barn it should be fun

    • Doc

Although I get what you’re saying, Subban wasn’t anything special last night. He often got out played and wasn’t that much of a threat. Gallagher was more of a pain in the ass that Subban by a long shot.

Price on the other hand, completely stole the show. I would have given him the 3 stars just because he dominated the whole game. Fun game to see live, that’s for sure.

      • Alcatraz

Sure, but does that have to do about celebrating a win?

Carkner was arguably our worst player when he was on our team and when he scored a big goal in triple OT he was allowed to celebrate (different circumstances sure)

Subban was actually the teams best dman and player. With him on the ice Montreal Corsi was 49% with him off the ice it was 25%

        • Doc

Bah, if people are really mad about that instead of how some of our own players played, then so be it. There were far worst things that happened last night that Subban’s celebration.

That OT goal was so soft, ugh.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Who cares about the celebration….if that were Karlsson everyone would be saying how pumped it got them and loved that he showed so much heart after a vital goal.

          • my2sens

I think there are several ways to look at the celebration.

            A) he was saluting the Habs fans
            B) he was gloating to the Sens fans that booed him

BUT the reigning factor IMO which makes it unsportsmanlike is that it’s Subban. Everyone knows he has an inflated ego and that is what was celebrating the goal. Sadly it wasn’t either of the two above mentioned options. It was Subban’s ego blowing up.

I DO NOT want to see him do that while wearing the white and red in Sochi.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Sure you would…..if he scored the game winning goal in the gold medal game, people would be pissed off if he didn’t celebrate like that.

I am not going to go as far as to say it is racist(especially in here) but I think he gets A LOT more flack due to the fact that he brings a little bit more of the (for lack of a better word) the black attitude to what has always been a predominantly white sport.

I anticipate this comment starting a shit storm. I am torn on said attitude as I used to love Basketball and watching the NBA until that attitude became far to prevalent and the game essentially became a who has the better player that can play one on one against the other teams. It is basically 5 one on one matchups.

          • my2sens

I get what you are saying, but this isn’t a gold medal game, nor a playoff game, it is regular season.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Against arguably their biggest rivals, especially following last years playoffs.

          • aegiszx

People are going to boo him, just like when I saw the Sens visit the United Centre, nearly half the stadium BOO Karlsson… And the Hawks/Sens arent even rivals… I assume they were booing him because he was the Norris trophy winner over D.Keith…

          • SuperSENS

Except this wasn’t a gold medal game, it was a regular season game. It has nothing to do with racism — it has to do with a player that clearly lacks maturity and who shows it time and time again. You don’t see other players celebrating in such a ridiculous fashion in the regular season.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I will repeat what I posted before…against the team that less than a year ago embarrassed them in the playoffs. If people do not see how this is a big deal then obviously(and this isn’t an insult) they haven’t played sports at a high level.

          • SuperSENS

And again I repeat it was only a regular season game. We played them already this season before this, so your point lacks merit IMO.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

            4-1 for us
            4-3 for us
            5-4 for them

So no….had they beaten us already(playing and losing is completely different, and if anything justifies the reaction more) I would agree with you a bit more, but this is the first time that they beat us since we embarrassed them. IMHO it was not a drastic over reaction….was it a little bit over the top, sure….but to have a Sens blog talking about it almost exclusively the next day is kinda nuts.

          • SuperSENS

No, I wouldn’t. I’d think it was as much of a ridiculous act if it was Alfredsson, Karlsson, or any other Ottawa player that did it. It was a regular season game; PK was celebrating like he won the Cup or an Olympic medal.

          • Senatollah

As much as i hate the Habs, I have no issue with the celebration, last year if you saw the Kings-Oilers game Yakapovs celebration was killed in the media, but for those watching the game it was extravagant. A player/team battles all night and in one shot wins the game, is happy and responds accordingly.
If the Habs were in the game and not dominated like they were and Subban scores the same OT goal i’m sure the celebration would have been much different, the old been there done that.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

He scored the winning goal against the team that embarrassed them in the playoffs less than a year ago….have any of the people saying it is horrible played sports at a highish level? This was not a big deal

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

a .783 save % is embarrassing, I honestly pin this lose almost squarely on Anderson.

    • Doc

3 goals on the first 5 shots. People were going nuts at the CTC. Horrible start.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Rightfully so….I still can’t believe how many people keep saying you had to go with him as he is our #1….IMHO he is our “#1″ for no other reason than contract.

        • Doc

No, in my opinion he still is. But at that moment P-Mac decided to keep him in. Some would have put Lehner to send a message, but the Sens did lock it down at that moment and started dominating. It’s just frustrating loosing this way when you dominate all stats in a game.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

When Lehner got the shutout they should have gone back to him, after winning player of the week and Anderson came back from injury they should have stayed with Lehner.

I guess I am happy that this has all but sealed the fact that we see him against NY. I just feel the team plays with so much more confidence with him in net.(seems to be a trend when we have a slight goalie controversy)

          • Doc

But Andy did string 6 wins in a row where he was solid, so you never know. We’ll see who they go with on Saturday.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

True…I hate how we constantly have a goalie issue here.

          • Alcatraz

We played pretty confident last night no?
I’m good with either goalie, as long as the emssage is clear and consistent, which it has been. anderson #1 Lehner #1 backup in league

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I suppose my issue is that I don’t think Lehner should still be #1 Backup but the #1….that being said, I agree that Anderson shouldn’t be a backup either.

    • my2sens

I think the issue with Andy was going to Lehner the other night. Yes he did get an SO, but I think that interfered with Andy’s mojo if you will.

Yes Lehner is our future goalie, but until then, let Andy play until a) really bad blow out or b) back to back

  • Jeremy

I think Cowen is seen as a long term Senator by the organization. With the team’s recent statement that they want to win a cup in the next few years I think they are letting him make his mistakes now.

Subban… I like him but I think he has to learn the difference between respect and disrespect. I think he was trying to salute the Habs fans in attendance last night but did so in a way that came across as disrepectful and selfish. Salute the fans but don’t make it about you…

    • OverMind

keeping cowen and trying to win the cup in the next couple years doesn’t jive together. cowen is a project, and if we seriously are looking at winning now then i think we need to look at prying Erhoff from buffalo. given the message coming from the top of win now i think we make an offer to trade cowen + prospect + conditional pick to buffalo for Erhoff and Moulson(conditional pick on resigning him). that is assuming Moulson would entertain signing with ottawa. fixes D, gets the extra forward. done.

  • Hax

Points in how many straight games and people are still questioning the coach?

Is it too early to start drinking?

    • my2sens

      It’s always past noon somewhere!!

  • spezzerman

Kinda hard to be mad when the Sens dominated 99% of that game. That same game generates a win 999/1000. Bad luck on the Cowen bounce but he was having a great game otherwise. As long as they keep this up, playoffs are a definite reality

  • NickofTime

I now find myself disagreeing with you more. First, people focus on the last goal that cost them the game but Anderson played terrible to start the game & let in at least two weak goals. I agree that Cowen should not play with Karlsson because Karlsson is too reckless & Cowen can’t seem to defend against all of Karlsson’s mistakes like Methot can. Spezza & Karlsson cost us a goal each with their terrible defensive play again. Karlsson’s offence may be at a Norris level but his defensive play certainly is not & the Norris should be for all around defensive play not just pts. I didn’t like the Subban celebration but I don’t blame him either, he got the winning goal in a big game for them against their nemesis. Price definitely stole the show but they also shot at his glove hand a lot, I was yelling at the TV to go blocker side.

It was good to see how well Spezza, Greening & Stone are playing as well. We saw last night how often Greening covered up for Spezza’s giveaways too. Did people notice that PM was double shifting Greening all night with the Spezza line & the Smith line? That shows you how important PM thinks Greening is to this team. The Turris line was terrific again. Still think this team needs to improve two forward positions & replace Condra & maybe Conacher if he continues to not score. Very entertaining game though..

    • PraiseAlfie11

As for Karlsson, you need to watch the 98% of the time he is a magician on defense, not the 2% of times he gets burned.

      • NickofTime

        more like 50/50 this yr

    • Hax

Sorry how can you call the goal off Cowen’s skate weak? Andy made the nice stop on the breakaway and if Cowen’s not exactly where he is we win the game. I’ll grant you had a rough start but after the 3rd goal he played really well and I was impressed how he battled.

Goalie controversy? I think MacLean has known all along that he has two excellent goalies. Where’s the controversy exactly?

You’re right about one thing though I think – this team won’t win a cup before Lehner is the number one. But that’s because I fully expect Anderson to get traded within the next 12 months, not because Anderson’s not a great goalie.

    • LeafsSux

Dumbest thing iv read on here in a while…

  • spezzerman

I love Karlsson but I dont think he is in the NOrris conversation this year. Too much West coast dominance. Keith Doughty Pieterangelo and Suter IMO are the leading candidates.

    • aegiszx

Karlsson won’t even be a nominee for the Norris this year. Right now, it’s D.Keith’s to lose, pretty much.

  • Laurence Babchyuk

It hurts to lose any game vs the Habs, since we all know that the Habs aren’t as good as they think they are. Yesterday night they got exposed and like chirp said this game could’ve been reeeeally ugly for them if Price didn’t stole the show. Now about subban, he’s talented yes but that guy only thinks about himself. He’s dirty and chirps without fighting ( typical like all the Habs ). It’s ok though, let them have that one and think that they are good, then they’ll get destroyed in the playoffs unless they don’t have an Halakest performance like they did in 2010.

PMac likes the D that way since he wants balance by putting a strong link with a weaker link. Karlsson + Cowen ( Cowen weak link ), Methot + Gryba (Gryba weak link), Ceci + Phillips ( Phillips weak link)

By doing that you give a young Dmen like Cowen tons of experience and you don’t have a weak line of defence.

I’d love Methot to go back with Karlsson but with who you gonna put Cowen after that ? You can’t put him with Phillips that’s for sure !

  • A-Train

On Subban: We got beat by a guy we all love to hate. It happens. Subban looked a little out of control to me as he often does playing Ottawa. Tough way to lose, but just think back to last year’s playoffs…otherwise known as “my happy place”.

  • Hax

Sucks to lose to the Crabs and especially with Pretend Karlsson scoring the winner. But so impressed with how the boys rallied after such a horrible start. Earlier in the year there’s no way this team fights it way back in after being down 3-0 early. Lost the battle but the war’s far from over.

  • Senatollah

Hate seeing Subban celebrate like that. If only BMurr can play of the old three way trade to get him in a Sens uni. PK and King K playing 30 mins a night together…

    • Hax

Is there a new rule allowing teams to play with two pucks? I won’t try to pretend that PK isn’t a great player, but I don’t want him on my team. If he learns humility maybe but even then you can’t play him with Karlsson.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I would take Subban on my team any day of the week.

        • Hax

You might want to wait and see what his next contract looks like first.

Not saying he’s not skilled. But I see zero signs of him maturing and I think a player like that can cause more problems than they’re worth sometimes.

If I’m the GM and PMac comes to me and says “I can get this guy’s head on straight and make sure he’s not a problem” then yeah, I’d go get him in a heartbeat. But don’t underestimate the price of having a volatile star on your roster and in your locker room.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Fair point, I more meant strictly from a skill point of view….but Emery(so I see your point)

        • PraiseAlfie11

I respect that he is a very good player. I hate his theatrics though.

        • LeafsSux

His own teammates dont even want him..

“Moving Cowen would obviously be a tough decision to make because you
know that as a young defenceman, he’s going to get better. But if the
return included an impact forward, would you consider it?” — SensChirp

We of course could trade for a LW. And the ‘impact’ we need would be either a lock-in fit for Zibenejad’s line, or a dynamic but defence-first LW to compensate for the bad habits Spezza is teaching Stone (joking, I thnk).

Assume that MacArthur-Turris-Ryan is the #1 line and won’t be disrupted. A LW like Matt Moulson could play with Zibanejad and Conacher, moving Michalek down to play with Spezza and Stone (bumping Greening or Condra off the roster). Bringing in an impact LW to play with Spezza and Stone might be ideal, pending ‘chemistry’ issues.

I know many fans want to see Michalek go, but some might say he’s overpaid and I’m not so sure he’d figure into a deal for a player like Moulson. The Sens would have to surrender a young player or two (in lieu of a draft pick) such as Greening or Cowen plus a someone from Binghamton.

    • Hax

I think giving up one of our core D for a forward is a step in the wrong direction. Given the choice between trading a top 4 D for a top 6 winger or trading one of our current top 6 wingers for a top 4 D I’d do the latter before the former.

There is something to be said about the suggestion that Cowen may not come into his own fast enough to be part of a “run” in the next couple of years. I personally think he can/will but if Cowen was part of a package to bring in a guy who’d be in our top pairing for the next 3 years I’d support that.

      • Cicero

I hope you’re right about Cowen. I agree with your assessment….I do think that ‘the right left winger’ would have to produce quickly and prolifically AND adapt to Maclean’s system. It’s the sort of trade risk best kept until the March deadline to decide upon. This team is gelling, winning, and turning a lost season into a playoff run. So why sacrifice a piece of the future at this time?

        • Hax

That’s a good point as well. Any trade would absolutely have to be for the right player (forward or D). Just adding a piece isn’t going to be worth it unless it’s almost for free. Anybody new needs to be a slam-dunk upgrade or it’s not worth doing (unless it’s over the summer).

  • FistsofNeil25

Chirp, I don’t get the idea of including Cowen in a deal for an impact forward. I think it’s pretty clear that the Sens need is of an impact defenseman, don’t you think? Come playoff time, I don’t trust our defense the way it is, and I don’t really trust it anymore if we trade Cowen for a forward without replacing him.

    • Hax

Stated better that I tried to below. Agree completely.

Now if there’s a Cowen deal that does bring back a forward I hope it’s quickly followed by a deal to bring in an upgrade to Cowen. But I agree our bigger need is on the blueline if we’re going to improve the team right away.

    • Cicero

I think an impact forward would necessarily have to be a strong two-way player to have a +ive impact on the current team dynamic.

  • Pugnacious Serf

When is Craig Anderson going to start to play consistent hockey? And yes I agree, Cowen is getting way too much ice time.

    • Hax

So you missed the 8 games he played before last night?

    • FistsofNeil25

Anderson has been stellar lately. Last night was just a bit of a speed bump. Some fans need to stop being so fickle with our players. Andy has been very consistent over the last few weeks. Every goalie is bound to have a bad game once in a while.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Agreed, I am kinda pissed Lehner didn’t get the start, but to say Anderson hasn’t been consistent lately is wrong.

        • Matt

Yeah I’m a little cheesed Lehner didn’t get the start as well as I’m of the you get a shutout and you start the next game school of thought…
Andy has been playing well but I still find myself holding my breathe when he’s between the pipes

          • SuperSENS

Yeah, I was a bit surprised he didn’t go back with Lehner too.

  • Hax

Always tough to be objective as a fan, but I think if one of our guys celebrated like that I’d be a little bit embarrassed. I’m sure I’d defend it and really it’s not a huge deal but I do think PK went a bit overboard. I think it’s totally fine for Sens fans (and players?) to sort of think “Hokay there PK, glad you’re so happy.”

Really, watching it I mostly am thankful that we don’t have anyone on our team that’s that selfish and unable to control his emotions. It’s actually a good thing to see him like this since I see it as a sign that he’s not mentally strong. Get excited, sure. But I’d rather cool, calm EK65 over PK any day.

    • Senatollah

You don’t think if an Ottawa player scored an OT goal in a game that Ottawa was totally outplayed, completely dominated that they would just celebrate with a little fist pump. Why not save all those words you typed and just say i want a team that shows no emotion.

      • Hax

Totally missed my point. Did you miss the “bit overboard” part?

There’s a LOT of room between “no emotion” and PK’s I-cant-believe-I-got-an-xbox-for-Christmas celebration.

        • Millennium

I can probably let most of the celebration slide, because I would be amped to score that goal too. The part that pushed it into “too far” territory was the grabbing of the logo and ‘repping’ it over and over. That stuff is petulant and makes him look foolish. The rest of it is more eye-roll worthy than anything.

          • Hax

            Agreed.

      • Matt

If you watch the Turris goal last night,he was totally pumped but took the time to check himself and his celebration.Bobby Ryan is the best example of this beauty goal simple fist pump…classy players

      • bluebuyyoo

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hy0pXTnx85Q

Now, there’s a beauty OT winner with a decent reaction. PK scored a fluke and went with the gold medal, SC, WC, look at me celebration.

    • Doc

You can bet that Therrien wasn’t happy about it. Remember that Subban and Price were told to stop with their special handshake after wins last season. Therrien is pretty old school for certain stuff.

      • Hax

Another reason why Sens fans should sort of be happy he did it. Anything that rocks the boat in Montreal is good for us.

Who the heck is 6th sens??

    Is he on glue?

    The 6th Sens ‏@6thSens 19m

What would it take to balance out a Cowen/Spezza for Kadri/Gardiner trade? RT @Wham_City: @6thSens Cowen for Kadri?

    • Hax

Actually a decent blogger. Not at Chirp’s level of course but who is?

He also will occasionally try to stir the pot a bit so I wouldn’t get overly excited about that hypothetical.

      • SensChirp

Ha. Big fan of Graeme’s work too.

    • Doc

A very good blogger in the Sens community. He’s got a sense of humour that some people don’t get.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

So I guess it is sorta meant to be tongue in cheek?

        • Doc

Could be, not sure. Would have to check the rest of the convo.

  • FistsofNeil25

I think we’re spending a bit too much time talking about Subban today lol who really cares what that guy does?

    • Hax

      Well said.

  • Richard Gough

Could a deal like this work for the Sens
    Cowan for Oleksiak and 1st
Oleksiak may not be ready to take Cowan spot but at least we get the first which can be flipped for that impact forward that we need so badly need

    Oleksiak
    6’7″
    242 lbs

    • Hax

Sorry but why do we need an impact forward? We’re scoring plenty of goals. We need to ADD on D, not take away.

    • sben

Cowen is not worthj a 1st rounder by himself nevermind with oleksiak

      • Richard Gough

Well that depends on where that 1st is sitting in the standings

        • sben

No it doesn’t. Any scout would look at cowen play a game and tell you he isn’t worth a first rounder. Or a second rounder. Perhaps a third. Ridiculously overrated player on the sens.

          • Richard Gough

I take it your a scout?

          • Senatollah

            are you an expert?

  • Millennium

Unfortunately, trading Cowen now has the potential to burn us if he ever turns out like he’s supposed to. On the other hand, playing Cowen 25 mins a night has the potential to ruin every close game we’re in. It’s lose-lose unless someone like Edm thinks he’s still a saviour and will go 1 for 1 Cowen for Eberle

  • esk

The reaction over subbans celebration is kinda ridiculous. Hockey will not match the popularity of all the other sport leagues if you try to eliminate emotion from the game. I hated his celebration but hey it was the game winning goal, huge two points in a tight division and he was being booed the entire night. This is a pattern thats been going on in the NHL for years. OVIE, yakapov, the price/subban handshake etc.. Let the players SHOW emotion. It makes it more FUN and human. geez. from a marketing perspective..the nhl and old boys club dont get it.

    • SensChirp

Agree with this. I don’t have a problem with him celebrating like that but as a fan of the team he just scored the goal against, of course I hated it.

      • esk

        I hated it to. lol

      • SuperSENS

I don’t have a problem with him celebrating like that in the right context, regardless of which team I support.

    • Hax

Agree that it’s getting more attention that it should, but why is everyone saying “no emotion” is the alternative?

I just think it’s funny that he got so excited. Not saying it wasn’t a big goal or that he shouldn’t celebrate but I did feel a bit embarrassed for him that he was apparently so affected by being booed that he had to rep his logo to the fans.

      • esk

Maybe its because you dont see players reacting like that. Its in the culture of the NHL and some fans to keep celebrations to a minimal. It’s a respect thing. It might seem like a small thing but it hurts the game more then it does good. Remember hertls hatrick game and he scored that highlight reel goal? He got in TROUBLE for that….like wtf is he suppose to stop playing the game? compare soccer players celebrations when they score to hockey players…which one is excessive? The NHL needs some major rebranding…has so much potiential to be one of the biggest sports in the world.

        • SuperSENS

I agree that anyone who was upset about Hertl’s fourth goal is being ridiculous, since hockey is a game of skill and that was an excellent display of skill. However, if you watch his celebration (for a rookie who just had his first four goal performance in the NHL), it’s very tempered. You can’t really draw comparisons to the actions of Subban last night.

There is no doubt that Subban is immensely talented, but his celebration was way over the top for a very weak goal in a game where his entire team struggled and relied on Carey Price to keep them in it — I can’t see how that really justifies throwing his equipment up in the air, throwing up the arms, running around the ice, and repping the jersey. If anyone should have been celebrating like that on the Habs, it should have been Carey Price — he was an absolute beast last night.

          • esk

I wasn’t comparing the two…im just saying theres this pattern of trying to control players…hertl got heat not only from the media but his teammates/coaches.. told him not to do that again and he said he wouldnt.

          • SuperSENS

I can see why they might be upset, since it was a blowout game by then. That said, I don’t think he went out there planning to pull off a move like that, so it’s ridiculous for them to get really upset over it. Plus the kid didn’t really celebrate after the goal either.

      • Jonny

Well being at the game it was pretty obvious that Subban was reppin to the Habs fans, even high fiving a few as he went into the tunnel. It has nothing to do about him being selfish or having a bad attitude.

He’s not the first to celebrate that way and wont be the last. Just shows his passion for the game.

        • Sensnation

Agreed Jonny. I have no qualms about him being that excited to score the winning goal. Yes it was a bit over the top for a regular season game, but it was a game they had no business winning, so he was right to be happy.

The funniest part is how Habs fans and Leafs fans celebrate their regular season victories like it’s game 7 of the SC finals. See you in playoffs Montreal!

          • SENSsmile

Let’s remember that there are two sides to an over-emotional player. Great when they’re winning, but what happens when things start to go wrong for them? Then they become their own worst enemy. This is what I suspect will eventually happen to Subban. He doesn’t know how to control himself and that will bite him in the ass at some point. In the end, a poor winner is also a sore loser.

    • aegiszx

Trust me man, I totally agree with you. I don’t know who’s running the NHLs marketing department, but it needs a complete overhaul. MLSE is a marketing machine for example but the rest of the NHL… man, just terrible. There’s a reason why the Leafs bring in billions per year as opposed to the Sens.

As a manager of brands myself, I can’t help but wish that someone would just step in and take this game to the next level. Being both a marketing guy AND hockey fan makes me cringe that much more. Granted, it is better now than it was in the 90s, but still. Players want big money, but the only way to get that is to increase revenue and brand loyalty. Just look at the way the ATP & WTA, and UFC have grown… EXPLOSIVE growth! And I guarantee if things don’t change, the NHL will be surpassed by both of those leagues.

      • esk

THANK YOU. I thought I was alone on this lol

  • A-Train

It’s becoming clearer and clearer that the need on this team is at D, not forward. Let’s not give up on Cowen, rather trade some forward prospects for a steady vet who can help him out.

    • FistsofNeil25

We can’t just trade a couple forward prospects for another defenseman. We already have 8 blueliners on the roster. Can’t add another one without subtracting one or two.

I agree our need is for another steady d, but Murray has to figure out which of the current defenseman on the roster should be here long term. I’m not sure where the organization stands on many of these guys. Karlsson and Ceci are here to stay. I think the rest could all be available if the price is right.

      • Hax

I think it goes without saying that any move or combination of moves that brings in a D-man includes at least one D-man from our current roster going the other way.

      • A-Train

You’re right to point that out. Tough puzzle for Murray to figure out. Thought Gryba looked pretty good last night too.

  • EHMatt

Would I consider moving Cowen. Yes. For an impact forward? No. Cowen is a top 4 d-man and if we get rid of him we only have 2 really good d-men. I would only move Cowen if it was to acquire a star d-man to play with Karlsson. Don’t get me wrong. Methot is good, but I’d prefer him in a 3-4 spot.
As for P.K. b*tch’s celebration. He can celebrate a goal all he wants. I probably would’ve preferred he go celebrate with Price who significantly helped them win the game. What I didn’t like was the shirt tugging at the crowd after. That just shows how classy he is.

    • roon42 .

I truly hope PK doesn’t get any minutes for team Canada, he will be a total embarrassment to Canadian hockey. Time and time again you see his teammates on Montreal trying to avoid him. Seabrook should have been a lock over this idiot.

p.s. what an adorable baby Chirp. Best wishes.

    • Hax

Atta boy Matty! Don’t know enough about the specific situation there but assuming it’s not a game where we needed Puempel on the ice instead of in the box it’s nice to see the passion. Love GW’s call too – great voice for hockey.

  • JAY79

I’ve been reading the forms on TSN and Hockeybuzz and it’s unbelievable how arrogant and cocky many Habs fans are regarding winning last nights game. The last time I checked, Ottawa has dominated them for the past two years and if not Carey Price it would have been even worse. I’m surprised because I didn’t think Habs fans were as bad as Leaf fans lol. Regarding Subban’s celebration, I couldn’t care less. I never liked the guy to begin with so him acting that way doesn’t really surprise me and it does nothing to change my opinion of him.

  • Miguel

what a fantastic game to be a witness to, veru exciting and well worth the price of admission.
tons of positives from that game including 4 very strong lines, and the fact that we completetly dominated the Habs, and if we can learn to build on that confidence, that when we have the puck, we will not be beat.
However, and I think this is maturity and lack of confidence, we tend to sit back, and hope we win once we have the lead.
This to me is a coaching adjustment that must be made.
And now to coaching, this loss is 100% on MacLean, any half brained hockey fan can tell you that Karlsson, Methot, and Ceci are our best d-men, and if you had played Cowen less we would have had two points.
Add to this that, after Cowen causes the 4th goal with a bad pass, and is too slow to stop Plakanec, he is the too slow to get his feet out of the way, our braintrust coaches decide to put Cowen, again the slow footed Frankenstein, out there on a 4 on 4 with the habs fastest players!
    Completely idiotic!
If you play that 4 on 4 with our top and fastest D we win that game!
Great overall team game, lets hope we build on that, and lets hope MacLean starts to act just like he proclaims and “lets his best players play”!

    • Hax

So I guess the current streak of games with at least one point is just blind luck for MacLean? Or does he sometimes listen to your advice and that’s how he’s managed to get us with a point of the playoffs after a horrible start?

    • FistsofNeil25

But wait, if it’s Maclean’s fault for playing Cowen, then wouldn’t it then be Bryan Murray’s fault for hiring Maclean and drafting and signing Cowen? But then if it’s Murray’s fault, wouldn’t it then be Melnyk’s fault for employing Murray, Maclean and Cowen?? Sarcasm of course…

No one can put that loss at Maclean’s feet. He’s one of the best coaches in the league and he’s been the BIGGEST reason for the team’s success the last few seasons. He’s doing the best he can with what he’s been given.

Montreal is a really fast team. They have speed throughout their top 3 lines. Are you suggesting we only let our slow footed D like Cowen, Phillips, and Gryba play against only Montreal’s 4th line??

      • Miguel

here is a suggestion…. don’t start Cowen Phillips or Gryba for the OT!
with the game on the line, would you start your OT with Phillips and Cowen or Karlsson and Methot?…
Any coach with half a brain will start the OT with their best…. but not MacLean

        • runningbear1974

Keep putting him out there until he gets it right… Punishing him won’t help… Maclean is deciding whether the win or the experience is more important… I like that Maclean has a full brain to make decisions most people wouldn’t make…

  • Sensnation

That was an awesome game to watch!

Really impressed with the overall effort of the Sens despite the end result. Everyone knows Price was the only reason Montreal had a chance. Happy to take the 1 point and move on, as it will help us catch the teams we are primarily chasing, which is not Montreal. Keep working hard and improving every game boys, things are coming together!

    GO SENS GO!!!

  • Hax

In other “news that shouldn’t really be big news”, Karlsson spoke to the media today. No word on whether or not Brennan asked how his wrist was feeling.

  • Andrews theory

I think Cowen needs time to develop plain and simple this kid should not be playing top pairing minutes and should have had his ass stapled to the bench in OT where he removed himself from the play twice with stupid decisions. Body is there but the brain isn’t ready yet.

We need an upgrade in the top 4 for more than a top 6 in my opinion. Having Greening on Spezza line keeps him honest and with the plethora of talent we can win if Spezza isn’t putting up points 5 on 5. With that said, if its a top 6 we r after

    I’d rather see;

    Karlsson Methot
    Ceci Gryba
    PW Phillips

    • Hax

So if Cowen gets stapled to the bench in OT who plays defense?

I can’t see the folks on this site suggesting that Gryba or Phillips are better options. Or do people think you can play the entire OT with just Karlsson on side and Ceci/Methot on the other??

      • Andrews theory

        PW

        • Hax

Didn’t see him last night. Does he wear a new number now?

      • Andrews theory

He’s definitely been much better during this recent stretch but are you saying Lehners shutout counts for nothing?

That was not one of his better games. Nuf said

    • Sensnation

How is he ever going to learn and grow if you want to punish him for every mistake? I think the coach is doing a great job teaching him on the job, and I think sometimes fans are expecting a different player than what Cowen actually is. I’m fine with him being used however the coach sees fit each game, especially given the limited skill our more “reliable” alternatives have.

  • runningbear1974

    1) I wish Cowen would have decided to skate back defensively earlier… I feel he often watches the result of his play rather than move quickly to a good position.
    2) How many high sticks to the head do we take without drawing penalties… Refs are assholes… I love that we ignore them now rather than whine… Continue to be a team we can be proud of…

  • runningbear1974

Also, notice that… Maclean never pulls the goalie anymore… And, if a player makes a mistake he gets sent right back out there rather than being punished…
    He’s sacrificing now for the future… Which I 100% agree, and approve…

    • Andrews theory

We’ll see which goalie starts next game. Anderson needs to have one if not two of those goals

      • Hax

        Anderson starts Saturday. Already announced.

Again, did the 8 games before last night count for nothing?

        • Aaron 2.0

Fully agree. Nobody can be at their best every night. If he has another straight game like last night against NYR, then if would be fair to talk about inserting Lehner.

      • runningbear1974

I agree Anderson has let in a bunch of soft goals early in a lot of games… But, what are you going to do? Punish him until he gets it right? Maclean is forcing him to get mentally strong… I hope it pays off…

    • Deadly

Last night ,Stone was struggling early, but was given more chances and I thought he played well later.
He will start to score soon.

  • SenaTHOR

I just hope for a couple of d mans sake that they get moved. Corvo is at the end of a career so he’s done his time. Gryba has done what he does well and play defensive hockey. The people who say he’s slow are wrong, he moves well for a 225lb guy. He does get caught the odd time but it is usually a breakdown with another team mate not getting his check. Wiercioch on the other hand is very good in the offensive end and OK on the PP. Neither of these guys will develop sitting. My guess is either one simply wants to play.
Cowen on the other hand gets two gimme assists(pass to Karlsson) and generally plays shitty defensively. I realize that by sitting your recent big contracts it does create a negative reflection on management. With Boro on a 1 way next year, and Claesson almost ready something needs to be done. Ship some of these guys out for a pick if they are not in the future, should be able to get a third for either of them.

    • thepez

Is the reason their is a big hate on for Cowen the fact that he sat out for a contract at the start of the season? Or do you really believe he is that bad? I acknowledged earlier he has had a tough year but he has played a lot better the last 10-15 games, ironically the best stretch of the year for the Sens.
PW46 should be playing ahead of Gryba and Corvo. Corvo was brought in as insurance and nothing else and was told so.

      • Hax

Agreed. Cowen deserves some of the criticism he gets but I think expectations are generally way too high for him so soon.

I still love the Corvo signing though at the time it happened I was very WTF about it. At $900k he can sit without any concerns and as a vet he can come in and out of the lineup and still deliver. He gives us a veteran if we need one (i.e. if Phillips or someone is hurt – not that Phillips ever gets hurt). But I’m sure even the day Murray signed Corvo he knew best case scenario was that the younger guys got the most playing time.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I don’t think holding out helps his cause.

  • gds

main comment today was “i didnt know subban was russian”

    • Hax

I think it was Steve Warne who tweeted something about “What kind of rant (about the celly) would Don Cherry have if Subban’s name was Subbanov?”

  • Hax

I think there might be too many fans that seem to think THIS year is our best chance. I know you can never tell what the future will bring and the East is fairly open for the taking, but I really think next year is a more important investment. And the year or two following could end up as even better “shots” depending on who resigns and what happens with trading UFAs if we do etc.

I’d much rather see guys like Cowen (today’s goat) and Conacher put in situations to learn and develop over letting them stall to try and get a few more points this season. And even having said that I’m not sure it’s as black-and-white as that anyway.

I think MacLean continues to a great job at balancing “win now” with “build a stronger team”.

    Go Sens Go

    • thepez

I agree. I more concerned that Methot and Ryan seem to get played a lot less than they should be. Hope it does not affect their potential signing down the road as I believe that both are essential to a potential cup run

      • Hax

I have to hope/assume that both guys are 100% okay and understand what MacLean is trying to do (balanced pairings/lines etc). But I do sometimes worry if one or both might feel under appreciated. Or (worse) that one IS under appreciated.

I was so happy to see Ryan rewarded with the goal last night. I think he’s looked really good the last bunch of games even though he hasn’t gotten many points. Just love his complete game.

        • thepez

This July 1st will tell the story when it comes to how this team will move forward. My prediction (hope) is Ryan signs a 8 year extension, MacArthur signs for 5 year extension, Methot signs for 5 year extension. Sens offer Spezza a 3 year extension at 5-6 million. If he turns it down, then trade. Anderson to be traded at the draft, not because I don’t like him, but starting next year it should be Lehner’s team.

          • Hax

On the ambitious side but I like it. The only thing I’d add is that I would sign Lehner to a long extension BEFORE trading Anderson.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Now the real question is $ values for everyone not named Spezza. You basically swap Spezza/Ryans salary, is that enough to entice him to sign the extension?

Lehner, I doubt agrees to a long term contract….he knows he is good

          • thepez

I think Ryan will be looking for Kessel money, which is probably at least 1-2 million too much, but the Leaf management screwed that up. You would have to think that MacArthur will be asking for about 5-6 per and Methot will be in the 5 million range as well. Hopefully the Sportsnet deal should help out.
On another note, the Senators probably have three of the best deals in the NHL. EK65, MacArthur and Turris. Especially Turris, 4 more years at a cap hit of 3.5 million.

          • Hax

That’s why I suggest they trade Anderson after they extend Lehner. He’ll get paid either way but if we trade Anderson first he can hold us hostage. The other way around and we can basically say “Here’s a long contract to prove you’re our #1″. I’d be fine with paying $5-6M per year or more considering the cap will continue to go up.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Ryan I hope comes in under 7.5 averaged out over a maximum length contract(think he gets that on open market after the Kessel deal easily)

Macarthur maybe 4.5 to 5 mil averaged out over 5-6 years?

Methot…I honestly haven’t a clue what the teams opinion of him is…he seems to make everyone he plays with better, but seems to keep getting a lesser role.

If Spezza ends up being our 3rd line C(which it is looking more and more like) I don’t think I want him there for more than 4-5 mil max….and even that seems a bit steep for a third line center(didn’t research other 3rd line center salaries…just seems higher than I would guess)

    • Deadly

      Exactly my thoughts.

  • Roar…

What PK did was embarrassing. There is a reason his teammates don’t like him much. He’s a showboat, always has been and always will be. Frankly I’m thankful to him. He just stoked to fires for our entire team for every game we play against them the rest of the way. All I have to say to Habs fans “Playoffs” because guess what, we’ll wipe the floor with them just like we did for 60 minutes last night. Les Glorioux? lol #NotScared

    • Roar…

In fact. I’ll say it straight up. Out of the Eastern Conference playoff teams Montreal would be my absolute favourite to go up against. Why? Because I know who’s going to win. That team is a pushover when the games matter.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

    http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/anderson-subbans-celebration-was-unnecessary/

God I hope someone on the Habs comes out and says we weren’t impressed with Andersons play last night.

    • SuperSENS

      *eye roll*

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I just think it would be funny and would add to the rivalry.(don’t necessarily 100% agree, he did step his game up after the 3 goals in 5 shots….but would be kinda funny back and forth banter.

        • Hax

I have no problem with Andy’s comments. In context he’s just answering the question which you can tell by how he answers was phrased in a way to try and stir things up. I would have been fine too if he had said “don’t care”, but I especially like the end of it where he basically says it should bug them a bit and they should win the game to make sure he can’t do it again.

The fact that Anderson had a bad start that game doesn’t really play into it for me. Would be different if he had gone on a rant about PK being unprofessional or something but all he did was state the truth – it was a bit unnecessary but that’s who PK is.

    • esk

spezza had the perfect anwser. anderson go work on your game

      • Jacques

Spezza should join him and that can both work on theirs.

  • Mack

Well at least he’s the Canadians problem and not the senators problem. Wait until he signs a mega deal in Montreal. That team become his and no one will want to be there. Gary Galley pointed that out already on the Power Hour segment on tsn1200 Acouple of weeks ago. Once he signs that 8 year contract worth about 8-9 million a year that team is all his. Montreal players already have problems with him. There isn’t a dressing room big enough for him, his teammates and his ego…

  • Sandy

I was at the game last night which was both frustrating as hell and exciting at the same time.
Price played out of his mind. That is the best goaltending I have seen in a very long time.. and I’m old..
This loss is solely at the feet of Anderson… not Cowen. That bounce of his skates is just another version of lack of puck luck the Sens have..
The Sens dominated that game.. The Habs scored 3 straight goals on 5 shots.. unacceptable on the part of Andy.. The Sens outshot them almost 2-1… dominated the neutral zone and the offensive zone.
It took hard work on the forwards/D part to get that game to a tie and to at least get 1 pt after the way Price played.
As for Subban… I have no issue with his goal celebration… What I have an issue with is as he was going off the ice.. he pounded his chest and grabbed his jersey to taunt the Sens fans that were in that area.. That was totally classless. His actions are the reason why.. outside of Mtl.. this guy is not liked to much by other players and fans. I assume his act will wear thin on his teammates. It’s stuff like that — that spurs the other team… His actions resulted in a brawl in the stands after he walked out.
He has too much of an ego. Give me a player like Turris, Ryan or any other Sens that just celebrates the goals with their teammates and no taunting of fans..
Imagine if Karlsson did the same thing in Mtl… they would be after his head..

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Or maybe he was acknowledging the Habs fans that were undoubtedly in the area(wasn’t at the game, but if it was anything like other MTL games, the crowd was at best 50-50)

      • Hax

That’s what most of the PK apologists are suggesting and if that was his intent that’s fine I guess. But just shows that he’s not smart enough to realize how it will look and by extension make him and his teammates look.

        Talented player, but immature.

To be honest Hax, I dont think Subban gives a shit how its going to look, he knows why he did it and he thinks repping his logo to Habs fans is all fine a dandy. (to which it is)

Even IF he did, lets say, rep it to some Sens fans…Well you cant say we didnt deserve it after that game.

All in all, thumbs up to Subban. Well played.

          • Hax

I disagree (shocker). He’s supposed to be a professional and I guarantee you Therrien and probably some of his teammates wish he’s tone it down a bit. It’s fine to be “a character” or even cocky but there are limits. Sean Avery is not a role model.

          • Sandy

Then the next time the Sens win in Mtl.. I want Karlsson to do the same thing going off the ice… I wonder what Habs fans will think of that?

        • Sandy

Said he didn’t care what people thought of it… That guy has a really big ego…. Has a lot of growing up to do.
He tries that is Sochi.. he will be quickly put in his place… if he actually sees a game.
I would hazard to guess if anyone asked Mike Babcock what he thought of those actions… I think he would say.. it’s not needed in the NHL.

      • Sandy

No.. from what I saw it was a taunt.. Anyway.. those actions belong in the CHL not the NHL.. He wants to be an adult… time he acted like one..

    • PraiseAlfie11

Something shawn simpson said in reference to PK…how many habs players openly had his back during contract negotiations?

Mendes makes me laugh pulling the race card. PK is such a punk who turtles against anyone his size, but will go after players like turris. His fighting career in the pro’s is littered with “cheap shot” followed by “refused fight”. The “fights” he gets involved in consist of his holding a jersey until the refs save him.

  • Sandy

As for Cowen.. he should not be paired with Karlsson. Karlsson needs a steady D to cover up his defensive miscues… Cowen’s game is still developing and he struggles at times with his own game.. rather than also having to cover for another’s mistakes..
Cowen is struggling but he is getting better. He should be on the 2nd pairing.. with Gryba or Wiercioch and put Methot back with Karlsson… Preferably with Phillips.. but Ceci needs to be in that pairing as well…

    • Hax

That’s where it breaks down. If you put Karlsson and Methot back together then one of the other pairings is going to be scary in one way or another. Phillips is best on the third pairing for the most part and Methot and Karlsson are the only other guys (besides Corvo) that have any significant experience. A Cowen-Wiercioch or Cowen-Gryba pairing scares me more than Cowen getting that much ice time.

    • runningbear1974

Either they figure it out or they don’t… Cowen has a slow brain… Playing with Karlsson will force him to have to make quick decisions… (practice what you suck at)… Simlarly why you play Spezza on the Penalty Kill, because he sucks at defense… Similarly why you play Phillips on the Power Play, because he sucks at offense… They’ll either figure it out, or they don’t learn and get rid of them…
Cowen said he’s a 3million dollar player, put him in situation to prove it… 3 million dollar players don’t need to be protected…

    • Simple Jack

Methot is best with karlsson, but our defense lacks experience so we need to spread methot to another pairing so our defence is stronger. Putting karlsson with methot would be a great move for the final few minutes or overtime.

I think management was hoping corvo would be a vet who could be paired with a rookie or 2nd year player but at times it seems corvo makes more mistakes than the kid he’s paired with.

With cowen’s increase in minutes i do believe he is being showcased, we have so many talented kids on defence in our organization that we could make a trade and get a top 6 forward.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Apparently Talbot is getting the nod on Saturday night.. I’d say thats a nice bonus for us, but he has been pretty lights out

    • Sandy

He has been good. Outplayed Lundqvist at the beginning of the season. It’s an important game for both teams… strange they go with him..

      • esk

its a backtoback game for the rangers i believe and henrik has started for a few games..he needs a break

    • aegiszx

Sens have been awful against backups… With our luck, we’ll probably get shut out. Earlier in the year the boys seemed to play a more relaxed game against backups thinking they were just going to roll over…

  • F5

If the Sabres offered Moulson in a trade for Cowen, would BM pull the trigger? That would be awfully tempting especially if he would be willing to sign long-term. However, I still believe Cowen will develop into a very good defenseman so giving up on him too early could come back to bite the Sens in the ass…

    • Sensnation

Moulson is about to get very overpaid. He’s a 2nd line winger on a good team, which imo is worth a lot less then a top 2-4 dman that’s currently lined up to peak at the same time as the rest of the core.

      • F5

No argument from me. As I said I still believe he will be a good D-man in time. I’m just worried BM will try and make some sort of splash and in a few years, regret the trade

    • Simple Jack

If moulson was signed to a contract i wouldnt have a problem with it. Trading cowen for a ufa is dumb.

  • LeafsSux

We I just got done reading this whole discussion about last nights game. Even though it was a tough loss many good things came out of it. We played with a passion and commitment to win (Well for 50 min).. I feel Price won this game more than we lost it. 4 of the goals that got by Andy were legit.. Last one was weak but the 4 before all had a breakdown with our players. You all saw the game so no need to get into that. Point fingers all you want but how many times during last nights game did you say Holy Shit Price!! Big game tomorrow which in driving 3 hours north to witness and im hoping they play the same game.. Go Sens Go!!!

  • NickofTime

Would Drew Stafford be the kind of player BM has been talking about that he would like to add to our roster? He’s a big guy at 6’2″, he’s tough & will drop the gloves, he fought Neil before, could be a playoff warrior type & is only 2 yrs removed from two 50 pt seasons. He is only 28 yrs old, makes $4 mil per season & has another yr left on his contract. IMO a Michalek – Zibanejad – Stafford line has potential.

    • Richard Gough

I am down for Stafford he would be a good fit

      • Phoenix

What do u know, he is shelll of his former self

  • runningbear1974

I’m disappointed with Michalek’s lack of vision… Too often he dumps the puck in… He ruins tons of great rushes… I like his hustle… But, I hate his vision… In my opinion, he doesn’t fit on the team anymore… We’re going more skilled… We need more smarts… We need people that don’t give up the puck so easily…

    • Simple Jack

I agree that puck posession is better than dump and chase, many of our players can either make a pass or carry it in without needing to dump and chase and try to win the puck back. It also saves energy for play making and forcheck/backcheck. Dump and chase is archaic and is for teams who cant bring the puck into the zone. We dump and chase when we are changing lines, but i’ve always thought keeping the puck and passing back to your defence could be a better option on line changes.

  • esk

according to eklund..lol Dustin Byfuglien is connected to the Sens… how do you guys feel about him? proven winner..playoff warrior….

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Depending on cast I’d love it.

      • esk

his d-game getting a lot of heat though

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Personally I would put him at fw.

    • Cicero

He’d cost too much. I say hold and keep working on the system and watch this young team grow.

    • Sandy

Not a strong enough work ethic.
How about bringing Fish back and put him on the wing?

    • T K

Unless he significantly improves his conditioning, don’t want him. Right now, he’s just a big tub of goo. He’s a shadow of the guy that he once was.

  • Guest

Byfuglien would address all the things more had said he is looking for… Puck moving defenceman, scoring winger and size, grit and skill lol

  • Guest

    By more… I mean Murray

  • SuperSENS

I take back my objections to Subban’s celebration. Upon further reflection, he’s given us a great gift in the form of 3 memes: the ‘overly enthusiastic for no reason Subban’, the ‘no love for you, Gorges’, and with a bit of hilarious editing and photoshopping, the ‘look at what’s on my shirt fellas’.

  • Cicero

So Let It Be Written: Trade if ye must, but touch not a player under twenty-five years upon this Earth nay over eighteen hands in stature. Amen.

  • luckan20

Lets put back the clowns act of Subban and focus on the Rangers. Their last 10 games record 7-2-1

    • Sandy

They have been playing well.. their goaltending has been good.
If the Sens play in the O-zone tomorrow they way they did last night.. let’s hope it has more success.

Tomorrow’s game is huge… 2 pts are needed.

  • Deadly

B-Sens are looking good tonight.Schnieder,Hoffman and Petterson with two.
    Up 4-2.

    • the Milkybar Kid

      4 assists for Da Costa
      2 assists for Claesson

Claesson now PLUS 26 for the season

      • Jacques

Cowen in a package for another sniper maybe?????

        • Deadly

With the amount of criticism of Cowan,we might need to add Bobby Ryan to the package.

  • Tim

Nice 6-2 win for us! I will be joining u folks at the game tomorrow! Hope the weather is ok during the travel!

    • Jacques

Give us some thoughts on Cole Schneider’s game, if you could. Not just tonight.

    • LeafsSux

Hey if you traveling from Binghamton you can hook up with us on 81 somewhere and carpool… Ill keep checking in on here. We will be leaving between 9-10am

  • Tim

Good around the net. Struggles to be defensively responsible at times but has gotten better. Like to see him create a bit more on his own. He has had a killer year playing with The Hoff and SDC

  • Andrews theory

    Game day!

Right back at it boys….push the pace of the game and put the Rangers down early….

  • Phoenix

Flat is all i can say
