Paajarvi Signs One Year Deal

Actual news!

The Senators crossed one item off their To Do list this afternoon, inking UFA-to-be Magnus Paajarvi to a one year deal.

The contract will see him earn $900,000 with Ottawa next season.

Paajarvi, who was picked up on waivers from the St. Louis Blues, turned out to be a solid addition for Ottawa down the stretch.

While his offensive output is never going to reach the level of a top ten pick, he’s still a useful player that carved out a role for himself in the team’s bottom six down the stretch.

The 27 year old is a strong skater that plays well in his own end of the rink and can chip in offensively from time to time. Perfect for today’s NHL and at a very reasonable price.

Paajarvi appeared in 35 games with the Senators last year, picking up 6 goals and 8 points along the way. He averaged just over 14 minutes a game. Paajarvi also won a Gold Medal with Team Sweden at the World Championships this year.

Chris Wideman is now the only player on the NHL roster that becomes a UFA on July 1st.
