The Ottawa Senators have added a little bit of competition on the blueline ahead of next week’s training camp.
This afternoon, the organization announced that defenceman Matt Bartkowski has come to terms on a professional try-out contract.
The 28 year old native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania played 80 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season, picking up 6 goals and 18 points along the way. Two of those goals were scored in a game against the Senators.
Bartkowski was drafted in the 7th round back in 2008 and has 211 games of NHL experience.
A left shot, Bartkowski is expected to compete with Mark Borowiecki and Thomas Chabot for a spot in the opening line up.
-The Senators play the first game of this year’s Rookie Tournament tonight in London, Ontario. They’ll be taking on the rookies from the Toronto Maple Leafs. While there is no local coverage, you can catch the game on TSN1200 and there may end up being a stream available on the Leafs website.
