A familiar face is returning behind the bench of the Ottawa Senators’ AHL affiliate.
This afternoon, the Senators announced that Kurt Kleinendorst has signed a two year deal as the new Head Coach of the Binghamton Senators.
He previously spent two seasons with the BSens, leading the team to a Calder Cup Championship in 2011. Kleinendorst spent last season in the German League. Before that he spent two seasons as the Head Coach of the AHL’s Iowa Wild.
Kleinendorst was extremely well-liked during his time in Binghamton and at one point was thought to be on the path to an NHL job.
The hiring may raise a few eyebrows as it’s sort of uncommon to see an organization bring back a former coach but obviously Sens Management is comfortable with Kleinendorst and feel like he’s the right guy to guide their prospects.
Steve Stirling will remain with the team as an Assistant Coach.
