Game Day- Sens, Habs at the CTC

Just six games remaining in the regular season.

They still aren’t quite mathematically eliminated but it’s getting pretty close to the end for the Ottawa Senators. The Columbus Blue Jackets now sit seven points clear of the Sens and really don’t look like a team that plans on collapsing down the stretch. So while I’m not quite ready to give up hope, that 0.3% chance isn’t exactly encouraging.

For the players in the room, it’s just important that they can finish this season on a positive note and feel a little better about themselves heading into the summer. For the fans, a home ice win against the Habs will take us back to better times.  Here’s hoping the Senators put forward a better effort than they did against the Islanders on Wednesday night.

Paul MacLean spoke with the media this morning and indicated that Jason Spezza is healthy (enough) and ready to return to the Ottawa line up. Even with Spezza returning, Jean Gabriel Pageau will remain with the big club for the time being. It’s nice that they are going to give Pageau another crack at the Habs on home ice.  Just an optional skate this morning so a best guess at how MacLean will line ‘em up.

Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky
MacArthur-Turris-Stone
Pageau-Zibanejad-Condra
Hoffman-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Phillips-Gryba
Wiercioch-Ceci

Craig Anderson gets the start in the Ottawa. Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Hopefully they swap Hoffman and Condra

    • SensChirp

      Hoffman-Zibanejad-Pageau
      Condra-Smith-Neil

      I like it.

      • Doc

        Yeeep.

Pageau can play wing, so I like that line. Lots of speed and scoring ability.

      • boom

My fear is that Condra can barely handle the puck when he plays his natural side, let alone the off wing.

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

My logic is… How much worse could hr be??? And then he can still play his defence… Which everyone says is his strong point…. I don’t really see it, but I’m not always right

          • Sensnation

All those wide shot opportunities he misses on his forehand, would be turnovers off his backhand lol. Out of all the players on the team, Condra’s probably the one I trust least on his off wing. But as you said, can’t hurt that much more.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Who knows maybe he has a nasty backhand hahahaha

          • Sensnation

I’m literally laughing out loud man, good one!

    • Codo37

I hope this too, a third Line Hoffmann – Pageau – Zibanejad is a good 3rd line.

    • Hax

Agreed. I’d like to see if Condra can play LW. No reason that he can’t really.

That frees up room for a top 9 made up of 200-ft players that can score.

  • jimmyjohnson

The only math that matters is this:

They are more points back than they have games remaining. Period. Exclamation point.
    /math.

They would have to outperform their 2013-14 season ppg just to tie where 8th place is now.

Unfortunately this season is over, but thankfully this team has a lot of good young players in the NHL and coming up. With Spezza’s resurgence (he’s been amazing in the last few weeks. In my opinion, he is playing the best hockey of his entire life right now) and with a healthy #6, we should have a fun and winning team to watch next year.

    Go Sens Go.

    • Codo37

Im a big Spezza fan but he played his best hockey two seasons ago with 84pts and the linemates were most of the time greening and butler. He is much better sice the olympic break but his defensiv play is not good enough. I hope we will resign him and Hemsky and add Ryan or better al lefthanded Sniper to his wing.
(Matt Puempel should give a try).

      • Sandy

Spezza will never be a defensive gem.. we have to live with that. He is trying to improve.. but it’s just not there..

        • Jonny

And if the coach is smart, he doesnt want it there either, Spezza is an elite playmaker and offensive weapon. You dont ask Malkin or Kane, Neal, Benn, Seguin, Ovie, Lucic (list goes on) to play defensive hockey…

      • jimmyjohnson

        @Codo37 and Sandy
I hope this doesn’t come across the wrong way, but you guys clearly aren’t watching him closely enough. In the past 6 games he has played, he’s been a pretty phenomenal player in all zones.

He’s looked motivated, he’s been aggressive, and he’s not once (by my count) been caught slacking in the defensive end.

In my opinion, he has been the best player on the Sens while in the lineup, during that admittedly short time frame.

        @codo37
He was good in 2012, but his strong play that year IMO has been overblown and inflated by the fan base.

Today he looks like a true franchise center. And yet, today, there’s more talk of trading him in the off-season. I’ve been on that bandwagon before and I was in the front row of that wagon not more than 2 months ago, but now I hate the idea of trading him.

If you knew how discerning and knowledgeable about the game I was, that last statement would carry pretty solid weight.

Watch his commitment in the defensive third tonight. If he has really turned a corner, you’ll see what I mean.

        • Zelle

I agree with you that there have been some great progress in his defensive game these last few weeks. I have been happily surprised by his positioning many times in the defensive zone. If this is to become a standard occurrence in his play I don’t see why they would want him traded.

          • jimmyjohnson

lol I’ve actually been surprised when I look for coverage and he’s where he should be.

        • Jacques

He’ll be phenomenal in LA or Anaheim next year, take a nap early so you can catch the late night games from California!

    • Jonny

Thats what we said at the beginnig of 2014…Look what happened.

Hopefully the “best players play” motto is actually used the way it should be.

The top 6 looks decent for next year, thats if they re-sign Hemsky and get rid of MM9.

Unfortunetely we still have Greening, Condra, Neil and Smith in our starting lineup…

      • jimmyjohnson

This season’s debacle is on Maclean’s shoulders. He’s the one making the highest quantity of mistakes, not the players.

He’s a new HC so I give him slack, but I still blame him for this season’s results.

        • TookieIs100PercentRight

It sure is kimmy. Don’t expect the media and non-Silver Seven bloggers to point the finger at him though. The media, especially the slack-jaws at SunMedia, are in awe of his “down-to-earth” demeanour that fills their newspaper pages. Me? I don’t care if you’re from Antigonish or from Novosibirsk, just play your best players so we have the best chance to win. Playing Neil as an extra attacker is crazy and is basically conceding defeat.
This team badly needs a new coach that will roll 2-3 lines and those lines need to be getting possession and put pressure nonstop. Period.

          • jimmyjohnson

I see what you’re saying cookie, but rolling 2-3 lines is what exhausts teams. I have no issue with HC Mac playing a 4th line a regular shift. I have big problems with who he defines as his 4th line though.

  • CohMa

Apparently Sens are trying to trade the rights to Francois Brassard. If they can’t, he can re-enter the draft in Philly this year.

    • FBP

Brassard & Future Considerations to Montreal for Future Considerations.

    • Kohlmanator

Pull a Chouinard and draft him again!

      • Sensnation

That worked so well for us. ;)

    • Sandy

Is it because he has not had a good season? Is it because Hammond became better this season than what they realized?
Do they go with Hammond & Driedger in Binghamton next season.. with Lawson gone?

      • CohMa

No idea. He had a pretty good year in the Q. GP 54 GAA 2.95 SAV%0.909
Record of 28-12-4-5 with 6 shutouts.
I have a feeling that we just have too many goalies developing at the same rate. Hammond, Driedger, Hogberg. I would assume Brassard was just on the bottom. He’s already 20yrs old and can’t play in major junior anymore. Bingo has Hammond, Driedger and potentially Lawson. Simply no room.

    • Sensnation

I’d love to know why? He’s 20yrs old, appears to have similar numbers to the previous 2 years except he increased his shutouts from 2 to 6. Is he refusing to sign because he knows Lehner and others are ahead of him?

  • Sandy

Hey, who are the refs tonight? Is it Furlatt again.. so he can do the great job he did last Sens game in Montreal?

    • Jonny

Time to drop the “blame ref” act Sandy, really…

Hopefully the Sens left that behind aswell, does them no good, focus on the game at hand and get rdy to compete hard, as MTL will come out flying. Cant believe Patches is over 30 goals, wow, good for him man. After that Chara hit, wow.

      • Sandy

So you didn’t watch the Sens last game in Montreal? Everyone.. not just Sens fans.. said they were robbed by a bad reffing job.
Let’s go to the call on Turris for tripping Markov, even though Markov held Turris’ stick and fell down with 2 min left.
Don’t get me started on Greening being tripped with 15 sec left in the game skating the puck out of the D zone — no call.. and it was so obvious.
Yeah it was only one loss of many… but that one was on the refs.. It wasn’t even close..
There was a reason that Ryan tried to get to the refs after the game.. and the reason Bryan Murray confronted them after the game…
I want the Sens to remember that.. I want them to get mad.. and bury those little smurfs tonight.. and knock the snot out of PK..

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

          Zzzzz

        • TookieIs100PercentRight

          Enough with th ref crap.
If our team skates hard, leaves its sticks on the ice to handle the puck and we play fast and hard, we won’t take penalties. If we keep cross-checking people, slashing, tripping and so on, we will and we will lose.
Calls get missed iether way and bad calls happen either way, the team that brings the most skill and pressure will win.

        • jimmyjohnson

In a non-Sens game last week, there was a tripping call made against a team who didn’t have a stick, leg, arm, or torso within 5 feet of the player who fell (toe-picked).

NHL fans need to stop personalizing the blame. It’s not your team or his team or their team that gets better/worse calls (yes, the Sens have been getting the shaft for years, but that really doesn’t matter), it’s ALL teams. If NHL fans can start being LOUD about the terrible state of officiating league wide, and just stop claiming bias against their own team, there may actually be something done about it at some point.

          • Zelle

I feel it’s actually moving in this direction. I’ve been told there is accountability in officiating but I haven’t seen it. Maybe it’s just not made public? Who knows. I just wish Sens would stop taking so many useless penalties. 75 games in you would think they would learn that minor infractions will likely get called especially if they got away with a larger one.

          • jimmyjohnson

            “Stop making it so obvious”

/extent of private movement on fixing officiating.

        • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

You can’t go up 3-0 after 10 minutes and blame the ref for 7 unanswered goals….That’s all on the TEAM!

      • sprucesens

yeah, I agree with sandy on this one. the last game, while we shot ourselves in the foot, the ref’s played WAY to big a part in it. 4 or 5 mistakes in a row, and any single one called correctly could have resulted in us getting 2 pts and the habs 0. That can be really deflating as a player when you and thousands of fans, even habs fan have agreed, that the refs were brutal and gift wrapped that game for them. Maybe without that demoralizing defeat, the players have a better attitude and win a few more games down the stretch? Maybe not. Most likely we still miss the playoffs because of our poor play all on our own, all year long, but to have even 1 game decided because of piss poor reffing, is a hard pill to swallow. I think I can count 3 games that had a major blown call that definitely hurt us big time. And while all teams have bad calls go against them, sometimes it just seems more glaringly obvious against us. And i’m one to not have home town bias, and be more than fair and say that we deserved a penalty there, and so on.

        • Sensnation

I agree with you and Sandy. That game was an epic meltdown by the refs and the team. Yes the team should have still found a way, but the refs should not be allowed to impact the game to the level we saw there.

        • Sandy

Not only the Sens getting screwed by the refs.
What if Detroit gets in the playoffs by 1 or 2 pts and another team is on the outside looking in?
Detroit got 2 pts out of a game against LA on a big big mistake by all 4 officials. The puck hitting the netting.. that none of them saw.. then onto the back of Quick and into the net. Was the tying goal late in the game. Detroit should have gotten nothing out of that game…

          • TookieIs100PercentRight

Who cares? It all evens out in the end.
The important thing is if your team is upper echelon like CHI, BOS, SJ etc. you’re not worried about refs. More skill, more speed >>> worrying about officiating.

        • Jacques

The refereeing against the Sens all year has been abysmal, almost worth a Melnyk CSI investigation!

  • Jonny

I would like to see for tonight:

    MacArthur-Spezza-Hemsky
    Hoffman-Turris-Stone
    Michalek-Zibanejad-Pageau
    Condra-Smith-Neil

    Methot-Karlsson
    Wiercioch-Ceci
    Phillips-Gryba

But knowing Maclean, this wont happen. Can see Maclean now begging Greening to play…

    • Sandy

I wouldn’t break up the top 2 lines. They have been going pretty well…
Is Pageau in the lineup, or are they keeping him up in case Spezza’s injury flares up prior to the game?

    • Sensnation

Why pay Michalek if you’re putting him on the 3rd line? I’d rather see Hoffman with Zibanejad and Pageau, than Michalek dropped that far down when he’s done nothing but click with Hemsky and Spezza since the 3 were assembled.

      • sprucesens

I could be wrong, and maybe it wasn’t you, and if not, I apologize, but weren’t you saying that the smith and neil line was always our 3rd line? Hence the argument for minutes allocated? I, and most others see them as our 4th line, even though they are getting 3rd line minutes. But anyways, for michalek, at this point, does it really matter where he plays? He’s likely gone in 6 games, and even if we win out with our best players in proper lines and so on, we still probably don’t make the playoffs. Earlier, we had spezza on the 3rd line, with michalek and most people were ok with that? anywho, just pointing out that it doesn’t much matter at this point. And again, apologize if it wasn’t you calling them the 3rd line.

        • Sensnation

It was me, no worries. They are our 3rd line. I get that when we are a cup contender a line like theirs would IDEALLY be our 4th line, but that has not been the situation for years. With the diluted talent across 30 teams, what fans want a 3rd line and 4th line to be, is rarely the actual situation. I’m fine with fans saying they want it that way, but at some point they also have to admit reality and deal with the situation at hand. They are playing as our 3rd line, the coach trusts them, they’ve all been 3rd line players most of their careers.

Anyways, to your point, I actually believe Michalek may have played himself into a renewal. It will all depend on the cost, but Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky is exactly the type of line our gm likes. Just looking at his personality in the past. It would be a poor man’s version of our cup finals top line, but would also come with the added bonus of a better 2nd line and possibly 3rd & 4th lines, which I think was the biggest lesson to learn from that final.

At the end of the day I can live with them trying anything they want at this point in the year. If they want to go for it until they are mathematically out, that’s ok. If they want to test new theories, that is great as well. I accept what the staff and management do a lot more than most because at the end of the day it’s their style that’s in charge of this team, we just have to learn to “judge” around it.

          • Zelle

From what I have noticed this season we have a pretty determined three lines, while a fourth line (not to be mistaken by THE fourth line) is more of a ‘try it and see’ kind of line where they bring up Bingo guys and send others back down. Kind of Ottawa’s version of a “kid line” maybe? It’s not really possible to call any line the 1st, or 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th line this season because all centers have moved around a lot: Spezza 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Turris 1st and 2nd. Smith 2nd, 3rd, 4th. Zbad 1st, 3rd, 4th. And then throw in a random center here and there when they got called up to play the position.

        • Jacques

          Haha

    • Turbo_Prop

Definitely agree with keeping Condra on the 4th line. If Maclean wants to give Smith and Neil so much time I would rather it be with a more defensive guy like Condra to limit the damage.

      I would like to see

      Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky
      MacArthur-Turris-Stone
      Hoffman-Zibanejad-Pageau
      Condra-Smith-Neil

That third line would have some great speed

    • jimmyjohnson

Anything to get Michalek and Spezza away from each other is OK in my books :D

  • Sensnation

Nice that they are giving Pageau some more icetime, all he does is create chances and play responsible hockey. Another hat trick wouldn’t be too much to ask would it ;)

    GO SENS GO!!!

    • Miguel

he better be careful, another hat trick and PM will make sure he never sees the NHL again… in favour of Smith Greening and Condra!

      • Zelle

Pageau started this season with the NHL club.

  • Mitchell

I would of liked to see
    Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky
    MacArthur-Turris-Stone
    Hoffman-Zibanejad-Pageau
    Kassian-Smith-Neil

    • sprucesens

yeah, was just looking at the lines and thinking the same thing. or at least moving Hoffman up, and condra down. but I never trust mac’s lines anymore anyways.

    • Zelle

Looks good to me. Kassian on that line would probably mean they get limited ice time.

  • Terry

    Go Senators!!!!!!!!

  • Sensturion

I just can’t see how it is worth trading Spezza this summer… I can’t imagine any scenario where Ottawa comes out a winner in a trade like that. I’d rather the team keep Spezza and figure out a deal that’ll make both sides happy.

    • Sandy

Is this all being started by more Toronto centric media — to cause issues in Ottawa?
Maybe Freedman and others should stick to reporting on what they know.. the centre of the universe.

      • Senatollah

What happened to the Kardi/Gardiner for Spezza talk. lol

        • jimmyjohnson

          JVR, Reilly, 2 firsts, and a 2nd

          Done.

          • Zelle

JVR would look good in a Sens uniform!

          • jimmyjohnson

Rolling Karlsson, Reilly, and Ceci for 60 minutes of coverage every game would be the greatest thing ever.

    • runningbear1974

At some point I would enjoy a respectful discussion about this… Not right now… But, I have a huge list of reasons why to trade him is good… It’s mostly concerning our “identity”… There is no doubt at the moment this is Spezza’s team…

  • MacK

So, stop me if this topic has been beaten to death but EF’s tweet about Spezza this summer made me wonder…If Spezza is traded, who will be named the 9th Captain of the Ottawa Senators? Karlsson? Turris? Neil? Lord forbidden, Phillips?

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

      EF?

      • MacK

        Elliotte Friedman

      • FBP

        Victor Frankenstein’s younger brother Ernest.

        • MacK

          woah…

    • Jacques

      Turris

      • sprucesens

Tough to say, normally its your franchise player, in karlsson. But to be honest, I think my pick would be turris also. The kid has come so far from being misused in phoenix and considered a bust, to being essentially our #1C that plays a proper 200ft game while still being a highlight reel kind of guy. Seems humble in all his interviews and doesn’t seem to blow a lid when #@$% hits the fan. Instead he just elevates his game.
I still don’t think spezza will be traded, and if he does, it would be at the deadline to a team that doesn’t have enough scoring. Similar return to an iginla type trade. We’d probably get better prospects, because feaster was a dumb dumb, lol. Biggest thing it depends on, who comes calling for spezza, and do they offer a big return for him. If we can get 3 top pieces for him, or 2 VERY good pieces, we’d probably do it. We could possibly become a better team, and shed salary, which in reality we shouldn’t need. But, it could me a guarantee to keep Ryan. And i’m ok with that. But seeing the chemistry with hemsky this year, spezza is sure looking better and better. Will be interesting at the draft this year.

        • MacK

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I agree about Turris over Karlsson.
I’ve also being impressed with the chemistry Spezza and Hemsky have
shown from the get go and would like to seen them together again next
          year.

  • Miguel

here is a chance to give the real 4th line some real 4th line minutes.
Put Hoffman wiht Pageau and Zibby, and put the 3 cement hands pluggers together for less than 10 mins and we win the game…
but of course we all know that won’t happen and Smih Neil and Condra find a way to get over 15 mins.
Sorry but I am going to the game and having a very hard time getting up for it right now.
PM seems to have frustrated not only some of his players and GM , but managed to do it to the fans as well.
having said that I know all of us diehards would love a win tonight, even though all it will mean is pissing off the habs and their fans!
    Go Sens Go

    • runningbear1974

Which of our lines is supposed to match up against the other team’s top line?

      • Miguel

        Mac Turris Stone,
while Neil Smith Condra can match up against the Hamilton Bull dogs for all I care

    • Miguel

I cannot believe how many people here are suggesting the same thing.
I posted right away before reading all the comments, and why is it that us, unknowedgeable fans, can see just how bad Neil Condra and Smith have been, while the genious coach, still gives them more minutes?
      really bizarre

      • TookieIs100PercentRight

“I’m just coaching. I’m just a lobster farmer from Antigonish, I don’t know nothing about that stuff.”
Yay three more years of crap coaching. Hopefully we are top 5 in the league next year…

        • Sandy

So the previous seasons were crap coaching as well?
I don’t believe McLean forgot to coach from last season to this season..
Has he made some questionable player selections… yes.. not going to argue that..
But I would not call him crap coach..

      • SensChirp

See previous post you angry, angry man.

        • Miguel

I did Chirp, and it was excellent, and I did remark on that post as well. Yes agreed I am a tad passionate, but I do think that you do let PM off a little to lightly.
as I mentioned I pay good money to see our best players, not to see Smith Neil CP4 to start the 3rd period on the PP in a must win game.
I could not give a rats ass about messages being sent, and so far his “messages” have alienated some players and some fans
on that why is it ok for Smith Neil CP4 to not score on PP and not play well, but not the same for the stars?
Anyhow Chirp, I must hand it to you sir, in the best of times and in the worst of times, you certainly are a fresh read, with excellent points and always a way to keep us all, the crusty, like me, and the rose coloured ones like Hax (no disrespect Hax), in line
          thanks Chirp
          and Go Sens Go!!!!

          • jimmyjohnson

True, and this post above was of particularly high quality.

            thumbs up

          • Hax

            None taken.

          • Doc

            They do highlight your eyes.

      • Hax

You answered your own question – just remove the sarcasm font.

  • FistsofNeil25

Time to just enjoy these remaining games. There’s nothing like a Friday night home game vs the Habs. These games are always fun to watch. These may be the last few games we see from a bunch of these guys including the captain, head coach, and starting goalie.

Heading to CTC in a little while.. all I want is a win and to see 15000 Habs fans go home disappointed.

    • Sandy

They fire a coach after two seasons of Jack Adams nominations because of one bad season.. then the GM had better go out the door behind him.
If every coach in the league was fired for one bad season after a couple of good ones.. then there would be about 10-20 coaching changes a year..
The GM and Owner put the faith in a bunch of youngsters on the blue line and it.. blew up in their faces.
I don’t for a 2nd believe Anderson is traded. Lehner is not yet ready. I guess you want a losing season next year as well?

      • FistsofNeil25

Don’t misunderstand my post Sandy. I”m not saying we should do any of those things. I was only saying those are things we may see happen after such a rough season. I would be pretty devastated if Maclean was fired and I’m well aware that Lehner isn’t ready.

  • Sandy

I’m glad for Pageau staying up… but doesn’t Binghamton need him more now than the Sens with DaCosta out..
Binghamton is in a playoff spot and needs to keep home ice advantage… The Sens have nothing to play for but pride..

    • jimmyjohnson

They play WBS 3 times before the season is over and should have the O-Sens B-Sens back for their last 3 games of the regular season.

I think the team can hold pace until then and should be able to sweep the final weekend (including a game against WBS).

Also, didn’t Dzingel just sign? He should help replace the call-ups missing offense.

      • timwrx

3 games in less than 3 days is a tall order. I won’t pedestal a college prospect with 0 pro games over DaCosta just yet.

        • Sandy

You are right.. but Dzingel did have a really good NCAA season.

What I can’t figure out is why is teammate McCormick didn’t get signed as well…

          • jimmyjohnson

            contract limit?

gotta look at who they need signed (like Wik).

        • jimmyjohnson

Dzingel is already on the board

  • Terry

Well, everyone going enjoy the game!! Everyone watching also enjoy the game and have a few Cold Ones if you are of legal age in whatever province you call home.

    GO SENATORS GO!!
    From Calgary

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Love the third line.

Let’s hope Paul Maclean coaches the team properly tonight.

    GO SENS GO.

  • luckan20

Yet, we need to put up with CBC crap. I am fine with it as far as we settle our score with Habs.

    • Colin

True. It’s hard enough knowing that the Sens will not make the playoffs. I don’t need the CBC assholes reminding me every chance they get. If the Habs jump out to a lead, CBC will shit all over Ottawa. If the Sens get the lead, CBC will still figure out a way to shit on Ottawa anyway.

I usually turn on the radio and put up with delay.

  • karlssens

My lord there are a lot of habs fans..

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Stone’s gotta be better tonight.

  • karlssens

Why is Neil on the first pp..

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Chris Neil on the power play…………….

    • Aaron 2.0

I was waiting for someone to say it. I guess the coach’s response to criticism is to double down. That really scares me.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I don’t understand what Maclean is doing. Is he TRYING to get himself fired?

        • Aaron 2.0

I’ll stick with Chirp’s philosophy and say he’s just being stubborn in sticking to players he perceives as doing exactly what he says.

          • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Understand but obviously it hasn’t worked. Sens aren’t making the playoffs this season. That is his fault.

  • Colin

    PW looking sharp

  • karlssens

Good to see the sens fans show up…..

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

PK Subban is a -2 five minutes into the game.

  • Aaron 2.0

Oh man, having all kinds of trouble with the cbc stream. I’ve missed both goals. Maybe I should just keep not watching.

  • karlssens

    Wow Ottawa looks good..

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Why doesn’t Maclean like Wiercioch again? Looks fine to me.

  • Aaron 2.0

I caught that one! Haha. Tic-tac-toe!!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Cue to comeback.

  • Sandy

Anderson.. offseason — practice stopping those shots from behind the side of the net…

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    LOL. The Sens are hilarious.

  • karlssens

    Omg

  • karlssens

Wow Ottawa really just blows at team defense

    • Aaron 2.0

Not disagreeing, it’s their biggest problem. But, really, they haven’t given up many scoring chances. That might be the first.

  • mr.slapshot

Haha what a shitty hockey team.

  • Aaron 2.0

In all likelihood this game doesn’t matter. I’d pull Anderson and give Lehner some time. Anderson has to have at least one of those.

  • Sandy

No way a team should give up 2 goals early after going up 3-0… 2 goals on 3 shots…

    • QSenFan

      Yet there it is again…..

      • Sandy

Yeah… it’s been the most frustrating of seasons..

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Well, at least we’re being entertained. I fully expect the Habs to come back btw. You can just feel it happening.

  • nikeb613

    wow… just wow

  • Jacques

    That’s not good.

  • xiorcal

    such a cheap shot.

  • xiorcal

hit like that with no puck for me count as intent to injure a player. The guy is so far from the puck he cannot expect to be hit like that.

    • Sandy

      Missed it.. what happened…

      • xiorcal

the puck was coming back in the montreal zone ( on the right side of the blue line) and mac was stuck in the zone. He tried to get quickly out of the zone almost at the other end of the blue line (nowhere near the puck). A montreal player saw him coming and hip checked him.

        • Sandy

I assume there was an interference penalty? NOT..

          • xiorcal

Well the puck was not in the area but i’m having trouble believing the ref did not see it happening right in front of him.

  • Jacques

    Anderson, shaky!

    • Aaron 2.0

If that puck is saved behind the net it’s probably a much different game right now.

      • Jacques

A portrait of our season unfortunately.

  • Jacques

    Stone is flying.

  • karlssens

    Andy wake the hell up

  • Aaron 2.0

    Loving the game of Weircioch.

    • Jacques

A big guy who can skate and pass the puck like that, too bad we wasted his season.

      • Aaron 2.0

I just mainly hope management gives this guy an honest chance next year. I’d really hate to lose him, more than any other possible candidate that could be shown the door of our rotating defense.

        • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Knowing Maclean he’ll start next season in the AHL like they did Mika.

        • Jacques

Last year in the AHL and then on the Pesky Sens 46 was great! Why they soured on him so quick this year is beyond me!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    BAHAHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA

  • karlssens

    Gryba fucking sucks

  • Jacques

Get him out of there opens the legs like that brutal!

  • mr.slapshot

Hahaha Gryba just sweeping the ice again.

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      LOL

  • QSenFan

Someone gjve Gryba a big shovel to play with

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Habs are gonna win.

What an embarrassment. Never seen anything like this before.

  • Jacques

Is that goaltending? What was that?

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

That was your 2013-2014 Ottawa Senators team.

No one really knows what it is.

      • Jacques

Why does he not leave his stick to cover the five hole!

        • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Couldn’t tell you man I don’t play the game.

          Ask Paul.

          • Jacques

Paul or Ringo? Nobody has a clue this year!

          • jasonontheoldsenschirp

            Bahahahahaaha exactly.

        • Richard Gough

Because he is a dumb ass lol

          • Richard Gough

            Cant stop a beach ball

  • xiorcal

Really disappointing to see the number of habs jersey in the stand.

  • Aaron 2.0

Hate to say it, but they’re right about that play by Gryba. Thought he would play it differently the 2nd time…

  • Aaron 2.0

Really not sure why we don’t have Lehner in net now. With the change in momentum and just a fraction of a season remaining, this is the perfect time.

  • Richard Gough

The sens are good at one thing all season and that blowing big leads ,

Way too go dick heads !!!!!!

    • Sandy

Yeah, like to know the stats showing how many multiple goal leads they gave up and lost the game..

      • Richard Gough

        Way too many

  • Sandy

    At least P(retend) K(arlssen) is -2..

  • karlssens

    Christ guys have some pride

  • Jacques

    MacArthur ok nice to see.

  • QSenFan

This team just doesnt give a shit anymore

  • Aaron 2.0

Well, an intermission will hopefully do these turkeys some good, and calm things down. Turris line looks good. Ceci and Weircioch look good. Love, love, love Stone!

    • Jacques

Every game he looks faster. Will be one heck of a power forward.

    • xiorcal

to bad you don’t have the tool to calm them during the game. I’m starting to think that after the timeout at 14 seconds against the habs Pmac got a letter from the league telling not to use timeouts anymore.

      • Aaron 2.0

        Bwahahaha. Good point.

  • karlssens

I’m sick and tired of this team giving up leads.. Wtf

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I want to say put Lehner in to start the second, but thinking about what has gone on this season, I don’t think it’ll even matter.

    • Sandy

Once Lehner started playing consecutive games he got better.
I think it was a waste to sit him most of the year on the bench…

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

        Agreed.

    • SENSsmile

Ha! This makes way too much sense. Is there any doubt that pighead MacLean won’t even consider switching goalies?

      • SENSsmile

        I was right.

  • mr.slapshot

Not that it makes a difference but it’s only the first period and there were already two blatant penalties that were “missed” despite being in from of everyone.

    • Jacques

      As per usual!

    • Aaron 2.0

The penalty on MacArthur was a pretty sleazy but sneaky play. We were on the PP with the high-stick to Karlsson. That’s the only reason I can think for that non-call. But, something that blatantly missed is brutal.

      • mr.slapshot

Yea, it was the front row centre location of the penalties that annoyed me the most.

  • karlssens

For those of you who want to have Gryba on the team next year.. Take a look at that period.

    • Jacques

No let’s play Phillips instead! C’mon give him a chance, he’s been good 98 percent of the time.

    • mr.slapshot

He looked like a sweeper on a curling team.

      • Jacques

        Hurry, hard!

    • Aaron 2.0

It was a really bad period for him, no doubt. But, unless I know who the replacement would be, he’s a better option than Phillips (at this point in his career), IMHO.

  • Zelle

Just got home to watch the game and saw 3-3. Was hoping it was a miraculously Ottawa comeback after some shoddy goal tending by Anderson but looks like it’s the other way around. At least there will be lots of video footage of what not to do during the off season.

    • Jacques

It was brutal, Habs are full of shit though. They didn’t have as much zone time as us!

      • Zelle

There should be a shame award for most blown leads in an NHL season lol.

        • Jacques

Sens have blown a ton! More than the chick at the massage parlour!

  • T K

    Hmmmm
    Subban interview vs rat’s ass
    Subban interview… rat’s ass
    Subban interview …. rat’s ass…..

Mmmmm, that’s yummy rat… Good choice.

  • Sandy

Well at least these last games gives management a good look at who should go and who should stay..
This team doesn’t have the killer instinct. They had those bastards down 3-0 and they and they should have put on the pressure… They have no one to blame but themselves..

    • Jacques

Play soft,no killer instinct. They have no clue how to help their D In the defensive zone.

  • Jacques

Maybe they should rethink the BRASSARD situation. Having an extra goalie might be smart. Lol

    • SENSsmile

You mean, putting two of them in net at the same time? That might help…

  • Sandy

Faceoff wins are 17 to 5 for the Sens.. totally dominated. No way they should be tied..
    Bad goaltending..

    • karlssens

      Bad goaltending, bad Gryba/ phillipsing

      • Jacques

The whole team D sucks, like they have no SYSTEMS going at all. What style of play are we attempting????

        • Sandy

Isn’t Mark Reeds in charge of the D? So he runs them…
I hate to kick a guy when he is going through what he is.. but they need experienced asst coaches next season..

          • Jacques

I just don’t see a team that is well coached, or maybe they don’t pay attention…. Mystery

          • Sandy

I’m not going to blame McLean.. We have seen he’s a good coach.
It’s like these guys panic when things start going against them.. instead of just sticking to the game plan.
Good idea for the off-season, give every player tapes to review of what they did wrong.. maybe that will help?

    • T K

It’s like Galley said, Gryba’s gotta learn to play the body and not the puck. That accounts for 2

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I miss Alfie. None of this would be happening if he was here.

    • Colin

Alfie? The guy that gave up during the Pit series last year?

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

        Yep. That same Alfie.

There’s no way this season would have went the way it did if he was still here.

      • Jacques

He didn’t quit short handed in game 3 in the last minute! Was at that game! He said what he said after game 4 because a certain guy was floating around and he shouldn’t have been back. That’s why Alfie said what he did, he was frustrated as hell! Nobody cared more than the Alfster!

        • Colin

Yup. Sure. I guess he was rallying the troops when he said he doubted they could beat the Penguins.

          • SENSsmile

Yeah, well Alfie is honest, if nothing else.

  • Jacques

Karlsson looks like he’s skating on one leg.

  • Sandy

Turned on Chi-Col.. wanted to watch a good game.
Wash is beating NJ… Det up 3-0 on Buff — Alfie with a goal..

    • Zelle

BUF is on a back to back, backup goalie, on the road, and it’s the Sabres. Detroit winning is pretty much a lock.

    • Jacques

Might be a smart move, you’re a smart lady.

      • Sandy

Maybe for tonight. I hate Montreal. I hate seeing them beat the Sens. I can’t stand their faces…
BTW — Chi/Col.. tied 2-2.. Love Chi.. but come on Col.. you need 2 pts. to stay ahead of the other team I absolutely hate.

        • Jacques

Was a Habs fan young! But I hate them the most of all 30 teams!

  • Zelle

Maybe they just let their emotions get the best of them…

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Sigh.

  • karlssens

    Okay Gryba there’s the door.

  • Jacques

The line we all hate is on fire!

    • Sandy

Anderson is 4 goals on 12 shots for SV% of .667. Release the Lehner..

  • xiorcal

    fucking bullshit

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    This is just ridiculous.

  • Michenator

    I wanna fucking scream…

    • Michenator

      excuse my swear but seriously…

  • Jacques

    Way to go Karl!

  • Sandy

That is why I switched the channel…

  • Cicero

Should be a fan insurrection at CTC. Lots of rafters above for hanging people. That’s the kind of suspensions I have in mind.

  • karlssens

Karlsson for captain.. Spezza is a ghost

    • Michenator

      Karlsson is a beast.

    • Richard Gough

I think Karlsson is going to be caption soon enough

    • Jacques

      I haven’t noticed Spezz tonight

  • Jacques

Gallagher is big pussy, so is that Galchenyuk!

  • xiorcal

Sory for the language but this is such a fucking season of fucking bullshit.

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      You are forgiven.

      • xiorcal

I know the team did not perform up to what we wanted but so much crap from the stupid zebras. I’m not looking a lot of game except for the sens is it really that bad for every team are what the fuck…

    • Michenator

      I feel your fucking pain.

    • Jacques

You are forgiven for FUCKS sakes!

  • T K

    Kudos to Karlsson.

  • Aaron 2.0

Galchenyuk needs to get a penalty for instigating there.

    • Aaron 2.0

      Refs actually got something right.

  • Gordon Ramsli

That’s just fucking funny I hate the Habs sooooo much

  • Richard Gough

    Hey
    Just wanted to know
Would you agree to this trade
    E Staal for Jason Spezza

    • Jacques

Yep! But let’s make it a bigger one than that.

      • Richard Gough

I am hearing that trade could happen by the draft time

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

As bad as the call was, let’s not forget that blowing a three goal lead is entirely on the Senators.

  • Aaron 2.0

That drop pass on the power-play is just a ridiculous play. I don’t understand the coaching strategy on this. It rarely ever works, and everybody has to stop skating.

  • xiorcal

    SensChirp @SensChirp
Time for a melt down, Paul. Sticks. benches. All of it on the ice.

I was so hoping to see him pull the team back and say fuck it where done. Screw you guys I’m going home.

  • xiorcal

this is going to be ugly.

  • T K

I’m not usually an advocate of this but it’s time for the Sens to hurt someone and hurt them badly. Hopefully take out an official while they are at it.

    • Jacques

I agree lets hope it’s Subban or Markov… Lol

  • Mark

The refs have it in for us against the Habs this year. That non goal was fucking bullshit!!!!!

    • xiorcal

the worst part is that the habs are a top 5 or 6 team in the penalty department (this show how much they hate us).

  • Sandy

Maybe they should sign Brodeur for next season? He’s not much worse than Anderson.

    • xiorcal

After seeing van damme in the go daddy ad i’m thinking let’s try him. He was ok during is short time with the pens. ;-)

      • Sandy

I was speaking of Martin Brodeur…

        • xiorcal

i know sandy. But brodeur is not the solution here. Lenher need to have a chance at more games. Andy, except for the 2nd and 3rd month of the season, as been very good since joining the sens. The problem this year was how the team played in is own zone. Not enough talent on the blue line and not enough commitment from the forward

  • Mark

NHL refs have no integrity b

    • Sandy

Are we so naïve to not think that NHL refs fix games… like the one in the NBA did?
      Sports gambling is big business..
It’s either that.. or full incompetence…

      • Mark

        Incompetence

      • xiorcal

a little bit of column a and a little bit of column b.

  • Mark

    Ottawa outplaying Smurfs

    • Sandy

Outshooting them 11-1 this period.. and the Habs get a goal on their only shot.

  • karlssens

I hate mtl so much.. Every fiber of my being.

    • Sandy

I want Tampa to fucking squash those little bugs..

      • Colin

I want Ottawa to wake up and beat these assholes and send their fans home pissed.

    • Jacques

I agree and I live 20 minutes outside of Montreal, I’m behind Enemy f-lines!

  • Cicero

Anyone here also unhappy with how this game is going?

    • Aaron 2.0

Honestly, they’re actually playing pretty good. MTL only has 12 shots. There were a few bad defensive breakdowns (mainly Gryba is just struggling tonight). But, the score isn’t reflective of the play at all.

      • Jacques

All 5 games a Sens have dominated and we might lose 3 of them?

      • Cicero

Yeah…a strong third amd this one’s ours.

  • mr.slapshot

This amount of rage and tension can’t be good for a body.

    • Sandy

Especially when you are old like me..

  • Cicero

He should pull Gryba’s beard like on the hillibllies on Bugs Bunny

  • Aaron 2.0

“Budaj takes it in the face”. Lol.

  • Aaron 2.0

This is just getting so ridiculous league-wide. You hit a player cleanly now, and you have fight somebody about it.

  • xiorcal

Good to see the habs reaction to a clean hit after what they did to mac in the 1st. Bunch of dirty players in that team.

  • Cicero

Oh man Stone has to WHACK DAT PUCK

  • mr.slapshot

    Wow what a quick whistle…

  • T K

Andy needed to get that. Fuck

  • karlssens

Can we have a save Andy

    • Jacques

Too bad Florida doesn’t need a goalie anymore! Jk

  • Richard Gough

I would like to place Andy and his defence up for adoption any takers ?

    • Cicero

Trade to TB for past (re)considerations?

  • xiorcal

if the score stay the same, anyone expecting therien to take a late timeout?

  • karlssens

This game is really testing my patience

    • Jacques

Serenity Now! I’m gonna lose a 20$ not too happy!

  • mr.slapshot

What do you even say… We suck

  • Gordon Ramsli

Can our team just fucking jump off the bench and punch everything

    • Jacques

      Now that would be coaching.

  • Jacques

Baby Sens tied at 3 in the second. Somewhat depleted lineup, Prince goal and a helper and Grant two goals!

    • Sandy

Wish the bsenshockey stream was still working…

  • Cicero

SHG!! Oh noes Condra missed the net.

    • Jacques

      Haven’t noticed Condra all night!

      • Michenator

        Condras been playing pretty great.

        • Jonny

ya he has, he hasnt done anything, thats his great skill, do nothing.

  • karlssens

When the going gets tough, where the fuck is spezza!! Karlsson and Turris are trying to carry this team.

    • Jacques

If we get any empty netter it’ll be between him and Michalek!

    • Richard Gough

      Hiding and sucking his thump

  • Cicero

Lehner start the 3rd please. Please.

  • Jacques

His bags are packed, leaving on that midnight train to Georgia!

    • Sensturion

Would you trade Spezza for Ovechkin?

      • Richard Gough

Nope no Russians allowed in Ottawa

        • Cicero

Unless they’re russian back to backcheck on defense….

          • Richard Gough

And do you know of any one who can do that

          • Jonny

            Datsyuk.

        • Sandy

          Unless it’s named Datsyuk

          • Richard Gough

            No thank you

  • karlssens

So ashamed right now. 5 unanswered goals. This is the NHL, wake the fuck up guys.

  • Gordon Ramsli

Lehner should come out in relief of Andy, I wanna see Lehner vs Subban, knock that asshat out!

    • Jonny

LOL do you know who is coaching this team…Best players play, Andy is #1 therefore he stays. Awesome reasoning.

  • Jonny

Gotta love Gallagher, he aint afraid of no one, haha, little bastard, he’ll take on anyone.

Bad read by Zibanejad to handcuff PW46 like that. Andy cant make a save today.

    • Cicero

A commentator during a recent game was characterizing Curtis Lazar as a “six foot Gallagher”. Gotta like that.

      • Jonny

Yep if thats true, havent seen that from Lazar, even in the minors tho so that commentator could be high on drugs.

  • Sandy

    5 goals on 15 shots? That’s totally unacceptable…

  • Sandy

Hey.. on a more positive note.. Dzingel got an assist tonight.. +/- is 0…

  • Cicero

Time for three unanswered goals from us. Leave it all on the ice in the 3rd! GSG!!

    • Jonny

      Not a chance.

  • karlssens

    Spezza line… Spezza

      MM9 responsability

  • SensFanInMTL

    It’s just. I don’t know.

  • Richard Gough

Change the channel can’t take it anyone

    Suck it Andy !!!!!

  • karlssens

Well on the bright side.. This has to piss Melynk off too

    • Sandy

Maybe he has to realize.. to compete, you have to spend money..

    • LeafsSux

      Not a chance

    • SensFanInMTL

He is the reason for all of this. Since the get go in September.

      • xiorcal

        july (alfie)

        • SensFanInMTL

Purchase of the team – 199..?

          • xiorcal

we where happy to see him then. It went sour sometime last year. We know he was putting a lot of stress to get thing done is way (kovalev, tantrum in the room, comment to media) but as long as he was showing a desire to win bigger than a desire make money with the team i was ok with it. This year all the money talk, the casino, the ctc affair, the fact that it was easy to see that the team needed one more top 4 d badly since day 1 and someone to play with spezz and waited till it was to late to give the ok to murray it’s making me sick.

    • Sensturion

How long have we been saying this with no results?

      • Jonny

Melnyk is waiting for the TV deal $$$ to kick in to save his floundering business, he wont spend it on the Sens.

        • SENSsmile

Is anyone starting to worry that something is really, really wrong? WTF is going on that we will only find out when it’s too late?

  • xiorcal

just lost the signal on my sat. Not sure if i want to use some bandwidth on this game.

    • Jonny

      you kidding right?

      • xiorcal

nop. As the third started the game went dark but sound was still there. The video feed just came back as i was typing this. And since my house is in the middle of nowhere internet bandwidth is not something you want to use on such a nice performance by andie.

  • Michenator

HIT THE FREAKING NET YOU IDIOTS!!!

    • Michenator

      HIT IT!!

  • Sandy

How depressing must it be for most of this team to see a goaltending display like the one behind you tonight.. You win and lose as a team.. but man Andy is not good tonight..
Do they go with Lehner tomorrow? Is that why he’s not coming in the net?

    • mr.slapshot

Regardless should have been out after the first

      • Sandy

It must be the back to back situations.. or Paul has just given up.. and I don’t blame him one bit..

  • Andrews theory

I’m at the game directly behind budaj and I was yelling for them to pull Andy after the 2nd goal… It was blatant he didn’t have his shit together tonight…

    What a waste!

    • Jacques

      Poor u!

      • Andrews theory

        Fuck I hate Habs fans

        • Jacques

I avoid those games, I dislike them, think I would slug one!

          • SensFanInMTL

says the man from the province of Quebec!

    • Richard Gough

Wast of money sorry ticket holder

    • Michenator

If we come back somehow and win?! The tickets will be worth it, FINGERS CROSSED FOR YA!

      • Sandy

That’s going to happen? Maybe board up our net and they might have a chance.

  • Sandy

All I can say is I’m glad I’m not at that game. I’m also really considering to not go to the Leafs game either…

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I wouldn’t even consider going. The Leafs are going to annihilate the Sens.

      • Jonny

        Yep

    • SensFanInMTL

Goodness how could you? I think they should just leave Scotiabank Place free from Sens fans and just let the asshats from Toronto come. It’d be safer. Plus I’ll never forget if it was a game early this year or last year that it looked like 70% of the fans were all in blue. God it was such a horrendous sight.

      • Sandy

It’s in my season ticket package.. Plus I have those 4 Leaf fans behind me who also have season tickets… It could be a long night. Think I won’t drive.. I’ll just take the bus and drink.

        • Jonny

          At a girl!

  • Sandy

1 shot so far in the 3rd period for the Habs… 1 goal..

    • Jacques

Beach ball from their blue line would go in now! I’m not even watching anymore!

      • Sandy

Neither am I… looking at the stats on NHL.com

        • Jacques

          Haha, avoid Sens stats depressing!

  • Colin

Once again, the Senators are making a backup goalie look like a star.

  • timwrx

Dreidger backstopping Elmira tonight. Leading 5-1

    • SensFanInMTL

He needs to get to Binghamton, and soon.

      • timwrx

        Next year

  • Sensturion

I’d rather have Tooks around than have to read anything Jacques posts.

  • SensFanInMTL

    Puempel – Spezza – Hemsky

    Better Checking Line Than Current

    • Sandy

      You keep Smith..

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Hows the gamebeen. Just got home. Been keeping track over twitter and I think we all know we need SOME DEFENSE AND A CONSISTENT DEFENSIVE STRUCTURE.

    • Sensturion

The defense is actually ok tonight. Anderson can’t stop a beach ball at this point.

  • karlssens

    Does Anderson save anymore?

    • Sandy

Maybe he’s trying to play his way out as well….

  • Jonny

Embarrassing times to be s Sens fan…

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Anderson looked slow on that one

  • Sensturion

Ottawa didn’t blow a 3 goal lead tonight. Anderson blew a 3 goal lead.

  • Cicero

Coach…man, you just don’t leave that guy you’ve called your #1 in a game like this.

    • Aaron 2.0

Tuned out to help out the Misses with a few things. Came back to see the score was 7-3, and thought to myself, that Anderson must of been pulled, and wondered how Lehner was fairing. I check to the boxscore, and to my surprise, Anderson is still in net with 11 of 18 saves! I’m not saying they’re all his fault (I missed a lot of hockey here), but what are the coaches thinking letting anyone get embarrassed like that (especially at home)?

      • SENSsmile

Why? Because MacLean is a f***ing idiot, that’s why.

  • Jonny

Run Smith run, funny how he didnt even look at Parros…

  • Colin

WTF is Parros even doing on the ice? He is one concussion away from retirement.

  • timwrx

B-Sens abt to lose to Rochester. Scranton won to move into a tie for the division

    • Sandy

      B-Sens outshot them badly.
Murray send back some of their players.. they should not be exposed to the garbage on this team right now..

  • Moudy Mahfouz

    Is this game Andersons fault?

    • Colin

      Yes

    • Cicero

No. Same story different day — defensive lapses. PM really ought to have pulled him, though. So I blame PMac as well if we’re pointing fingers now.

      • Sensturion

Anderson makes that first save and this is a different game.

        • Colin

          or the 2nd, 3rd, 4th….

        • Sandy

I really don’t think they should look to extend him this summer. Wait until they see how he plays next year.. or trade him and bring in Halak.. He can’t be worse.. can he?

  • Mark

Anderson has sucked so bad this year. I honesty wonder how much he cares!

    • Sandy

7 goals on 17 shots? YES.

  • Jonny

Haha Parros gets off and Smith acts tough by slashing someone…

    • Sandy

Parros can’t fight anymore. Too many concussions..

      • Jonny

Tell him that to his face.

        • Sandy

He’s had 2 concussions this season from fighting…

          • Jonny

And he’s back in there no issues.

          • Colin

He went after Smith, not Neil. There is a reason for that.

          • Jonny

Yes cuz Smith was being a little bitch slashing and shoving folks. He stopped real quick once Parros got on. Then Parros leaves and SMith gets a penalty, lol.

          • Colin

Are you a Sens fan or a troll? If you are trolling, take it elsewhere. If you are a Sens fan, the GFY!

          • Sandy

At least he showed some frustration…

  • Sandy

Love to hear Paul McLean’s post game..

    • karlssens

I’m just a fisherman.. Just trying to coach.. The best players play.. Didn’t battle for 60 min..

      I stopped listening. All BS

      • Jonny

        Spot on!

      • SENSsmile

It’s either shit goaltending, shit defense or shit backchecking from the offense or a combination of the three. (Fantastic coaching though!(/sarc.)

    • Sensturion

I can picture it now: “We didn’t execute. We didn’t play hard enough. That’s it.”

      • Sandy

        Well… THAT IS it…
BTW Peter Regin scored the OT winner for Chicago. Columbus with a pt..
        NJ won…

        • Millennium

          CHI won in regulation

          • Sandy

My bad.. thought it was OT.. just caught the end of it…

      • Jonny

Yep and he’ll act dumb like he doesnt know why we lost, best players played? we should have won…

  • SensFanInMTL

Goodness can this season end any sooner? Just spare us the humiliation already. I won’t be heckled enough from all my buddies after this game. And the last one.

  • Sandy

Ottawa has to go and play the Rangers tomorrow… Yikes.

  • Guest

This is how I felt after the 7th goal.

  • Mark

Maclean needs to go. Anyone who argues that hasn’t been watching this season. Melnyk can leave with him.

    • SensFanInMTL

Agreed. But how in the fuck are you gonna rid the man who owns the team?

      • Mark

        Murder lol

      • Mark

I just hope he sells the team to someone who can afford it. I have a feeling other guys will leave when contract negotiations begin.

      • xiorcal

step 1 convince alfie to buy the team.
step 2 start a fundation to finance the purchase.
step 3 get the tar and feather ready
step 4 send spartacat to get melnyk
        step 5 ….

        • Colin

If Alfie bought the Senators, they would be in worse shape than they are now.

          • SensFanInMTL

LMAO, it’s pretty brutal now. So I’m up for any type of change at this point.

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Guys that need to go ASAP….
    Smith
Neil (A Leadership, D- everything else)
    Greening
    Kassian
Michalek (don’t let his latest point streak fool you)
    Gryba
Cowen ( I don’t ever see this guy having the hockey knowledge to play at NHL level)
Sorry if anyone here has a hard on for any of the above mentioned, but this team won’t be doing shit until they drop the dead weight!!!!

    • Sensturion

Smith and Gryba aren’t players I’d get rid of.

      • Millennium

Gryba is probably the most expendable D man on the team who isn’t named Phillips (and who won’t be traded sadly).

        • Sensturion

Tonight excluded, Gryba has been great. Better than most defensemen on the team this year.

    • Sandy

It is stupid to give up on a 22 yr old defenseman coming off a brutal injury.
You don’t get rid of Smith either… There would be a riot in this City if they traded Neil.. They need some toughness and you just want them to get rid of all they have.

    • SensFanInMTL

I’m okay with that list to be honest. But those are many moves to make during the off season. You might as well rebuild at this point. Return for those on your list won’t be much. Michalek wouldn’t get anything since he is a free man. He lasted for as long as he did. Clearly we won the Heatley deal. So long Milan.

    • Jonny

Yep too big and slow, zero mobility. Should go hard after Niskanen but that wont happene, lol.

    • Sensnation

A game like tonight should prove why this team needs Cowen. You’ll see 2/3 of your list back next year.

      • Jonny

Needs Cowen? for what, get the score to 10? If 2/3 of those guys return then I wont expect much and we will probably struggle like we did this year…

        • SensFanInMTL

And that my friend, is how we will have no honor for Connor. Hashtag that shit right now.

    • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

      Oh I forgot PHILLIPS, sorry

      • Jacques

        You forgot Spezza

  • karlssens

With the number of D we have next year, I think we see Ceci start the year in Bingo.

    • Jacques

      Nah!

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Interesting off season coming up. Surprisingly I am not too frustrated with tonight. We all know our problems all season and hope they are worked on this off season. I really have a feeling we see some changes somewhere. We need it. GO SENS GO

  • xiorcal

pmac must be wondering what to do. he can’t send smith every other shift now.

    • Sandy

If we are frustrated.. what the hell is he…
He has assistants that he gives responsibilities to. Reeds for the D.. Cameron for the special teams… and they have both failed…

      • xiorcal

then get rid of them. If you dont have that power because your arms are tied. Quit and people will understand why you left.

  • Sandy

Yeah it’s a young team… but they have to be better than that…

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Its time to run with Lehner and see what he can offer these next 4 games. Build some confidence goning in to next year

  • Lorenzo72

It will be a good trip to New York. LOL

    • Sandy

      Very quiet plane ride..

  • SensFanInMTL

EVERYONE COMMENCE YOUR 2014-2015 LINES NAO

    • Sandy

      FA-Spezza-Hemsky
      Ryan-Turris-McArthur
      Hoffman-Zibby-Stone
      I don’t know-Smith-I don’t know
      Karlsson-Methot
      Wiercioch-Cowen
      Ceci-Phillips..
But I don’t know there either. Then need a veteran D for the 2nd pairing… I would hate to see them give up on Wiercioch…

      • SensFanInMTL

You’re really not that convince with my avatar lol aren’t you mam?

  • Jonny

Anaheim will be picking in the top 8…

    • Colin

and whoever they get will never be half as good as Bobby Ryan.

      • Sandy

Agreed… Get Ryan signed… we will the deal…

        • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Uhhh…No, no we won’t….It wasn’t a 1st for Ryan, it was a 1st + Silfverberg + nosen, who will have collectively score more than Ryan

          • Sandy

You don’t know that is going to happen…

          • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

You don’t know if Ryan will even resign period so that blows an even bigger hole in that theory

      • Jonny

Well hopefully he scores more than 23 goals next year…

        • PraiseAlfie11

And hopefully he won’t get injured in November and still score 23 goals.

          • Jonny

What did he have in November 20? So 3 goals since his injury? Hopefully for us he stays healthy, otherwise we lose that deal too.

        • Colin

You are a real ray of sunshine tonight Jonny.

          • Jonny

Sorry, this team is doing me in…

          • Colin

Nah. Losing to the Habs just sucks. They can have their regular season win against Anderson. They are not going far in the playoffs.

          • Jonny

I beg to differ, with Price being red hot and MTL going in playoffs on a high they can def do some damage. They can easily beat TB.

    • xiorcal

with the luck this team is having our name is the first one out the when they do the lottery

  • Sandy

How can Andy go from being good since he came here.. to this season.. What the hell has Walmsley changed in his game to make him as bad as he is this season..

  • Deadly

    Who the hell is Jonny?

    • SensFanInMTL

The man that did the exact same as you and I did. Became a registered member of this wonderful team that will have no honor for Connor!

      • Jonny

Well if this shit continues, we are going to have a good shot at McDavid, I guess I can cheer for that.

    • Sensturion

      Troll.

  • Michenator

Somebody pointed out a while ago that Andy has a good then a bad then a good then a bad season, so on and so forth… Here’s to hoping next year he’s lights out and our team figures their shit out. This game was an embarrassment.

    • MikeS

Yep pretty much, I think he gets too comfortable and craps the bed, then he fights for his job and is lights out

  • Sandy

41 shots on Budaj.. and they are losing 7-4… Ridiculous..

  • xiorcal

    well that was almost fun

  • xiorcal

i think andy deserve the first star for this montreal win

    • Sandy

7 goals on 22 shots. SV% .682.. Mtl should pat him on the back..

      • Moudy Mahfouz

I cant event skate and my save percentage would be better then that

        • Jacques

Couldn’t be much worse that’s fo sho!

          • xiorcal

Like i said before Jean Claude Van Damme did a better job in sudden death ;-)

      • xiorcal

still wtf was the idea of leaving him in the game.

        • Sandy

They wanted Lehner to play tomorrow…

        • sprucesens

i think mac stated before he doesn’t pull goalies. just like he doesn’t use timeouts.

          • xiorcal

Maybe it’s not him. Maybe the Pmac look alike that was in the row behind him last year took is place. Pmac is stuck in his basement.

  • sprucesens

missed the game, but saw lots of fights and stuff. aside from the score…. good or bad played game?

    • Sandy

Really… Sens were up 3-0…. ended up losing 7-4.. Anderson couldn’t stop a beach ball…

      • sprucesens

yeah i heard that at the end of the broadcast. sounds like some poor goaltending. oh well. sucks to lose to the habs. Saw smith throw a good hit on PK and karlsson throw a good hit too. any other decent plays? saw mac’s pass again, too bad it was on condra’s stick..

        • Jacques

Condra must have some dirt on the GM, can we get rid of this waste of a jersey!

    • SensFanInMTL

OMG. Wait for the highlights bud. I spent the entire 3rd on me PC to avoid more heart aches.

    • xiorcal

good game for a most of the team. But andy was …. not even sure there’s a way of describing how bad he was. .682 save % is a pretty good description of how good he was i guess.

  • SensFanInMTL

I will sleep better if I found out tonight what the line up will be on opening night come October.

    • xiorcal

they will make an offer to corvo, kovalev and will try to bring back hasek. Also Pmac as stated that he wants to trade spezza and give the c to smith after making him the new number one center.

      • SensFanInMTL

Both of you guys are horrible men at the moment. I am being serious en plus!

        • SensFanInMTL

About the better line changes for next year that is.

          • Jacques

            You tell us bro!

          • xiorcal

I hope the lineup look’s something like this:

            Ryan-Spezz-Hemsk

            Mac-Turris-Hoff

            Stone-Pageau-Zibby

            ????-Smith-Neil

            Karlsson-Methot

            Ehroff-Ceci

            Phillips-????

Cowen or PW moving with more parts to get ehroff

          • Jacques

            Here’s mine

            MacArthur-TUrris-Ryan
            Hoffman-Zibby-Hemsky
            Prince-Toffoli-Stone
            Smith-Grant-Pageau

            Methot-Karlsson
            Claessen-Voynov
            Wiorcioch-Ceci
            Gryba
            Phillips

Spezza and Cowen traded to LA for Toffoli and Voynov plus first rounder.

          • Jacques

Let’s let the young guys play, Turris with the C.

          • Sandy

Can you tolerate another inconsistent season with more younger players?

          • SensFanInMTL

I’m sorry to sound extremely biased but a 19, turning 20 year old Lazar already is an upgrade to Condra. I have also watched Puempel in AHL highlights. You give him a couple of playmakers like Hemsky and Spezza and the kid will rocket the puck into the net. Pure goal scorer I think was what he was described at. Plus even if them in the line up and it still leads to a horrible year? What’s the worse that can happen? Getting McDavid?

          • Sandy

Do you really want them to rush Lazar into the lineup? I don’t..

          • SensFanInMTL

I don’t see it as rushing. I mean, what if he’s ready? Surely at least get the 9 game audition. Most 1st rounders get a look at before the other mid or late rounders which is a luxury at being chosen in the 1st.

          • Sensnation

Just because he may be better or more skilled does not mean you hurt his growth through natural progression just to have him on the team. Way too shortsighted of a move. If he’s ready sure, but no need to rush him.

          • Jacques

Yes, I like effort! Close games with skating!

          • sprucesens

that’s a solid looking lineup. I’d switch prince with puempel though. Very young, but could be solid for years. Unfortunately thats the kind of thing you’ll only get in nhl 14 or whatever. But that could be a solid group to learn to dominate.

          • Jacques

Yeah one of the two, Prince or Puempel! I agree, a lineup that can really skate.

        • xiorcal

je sais. you said you wanted to sleep but to do nightmares you need to sleep

      • Jacques

Ooof who’s writing this script , lol

        • xiorcal

          melnyk who else.

    • Jacques

Don’t worry my friend, it will be quite different! Young and Pesky hopefully. Pesky with talent. No 22-25-14-19-4-9 and those aren’t the Lotto Max winning numbers.

  • Sandy

So Hemsky got hurt? Upper body injury.

  • MikeS

So glad i went to see captain america tonight instead of this….

    • sprucesens

was it good? i heard it was good, but i despised the 1st.

  • xiorcal

    SensChirp @SensChirp
    Worst. Season. Ever. #Sens

Well it’s not as bad as the first one but the expectation where not exactly the same.

  • luckan20

Tomorrow it might even get uglier. Last time we played the Rangers we got hammered for 8 goals. Lehner started the game. It was an ugly performance by Anderson and most of the guys on ice. Very poor execution in our end with so much time an and space for those habs.

  • Shibal

This team has been just impossibly amazing this year! I can’t even count the amount of times this team has blown 3 goal and 2 goal leads this season; It goes all the way back to the second game of the season they had against the leafs where they blew a 4-2 lead.

  • SensFanInMTL

Media according to Mendes on TSN Ottawa has stated that MacLean was asked as to why Anderson was in for all the GA. MacLean claims he wanted to prove a point. Or some shit like that. Man. There needs to be a rebuild. Get a goalie, move some bodies, start up prospects, get new owner, everything. Just do it.

    • xiorcal

      What was the point?

Did andy lost the confidence of the player and Pmac wants to get rid of him?
Did he wanted to prove he is stubborn? we already knew that
Did he wanted to prove that he is the coach and can do what he want with the team to murray or melnyk?

Really fun for paying fans that Maclean is thinking more about proving a point than winning hockey games.

      • SensChirp

Deep breath. He didn’t say anything like that.

“I just felt like with the circumstances, it was the right thing to do.”

        • SENSsmile

Was it, though? Seriously! I mean, Christ, I know I must come off as another one of those negative fans, but Jesus, there’s a limit to how much bullshit I can take from Sens coaching and management. This year has been a joke from the get-go.

          • SensChirp

They play tomorrow. Lehner will start that one. Yes, it was the right thing to do.

          • SENSsmile

I disagree, but I respect your opinion. I don’t see why Lehner couldn’t have played the last two periods, and still play tomorrow.

          • Sandy

Some complain enough about the same goalie playing in the back to back games… That would have been basically what Robin would have been doing IF he came in for 2 periods tonight..

          • SENSsmile

Lehner is young, he can take it IMHO.

          • SensChirp

It doesn’t matter if he “can take it”. It just didn’t make sense in that situation.

          • Sandy

So none of this is on the players?

          • SENSsmile

I’m not saying that. It’s on all of them, from top to bottom, so I think Lehner should have replaced Anderson in the second period. That might not have helped much, but it would have at least given the semblance of a of try.

          • Sandy

He gets blown out tonight.. then has to go in there tomorrow?

          • SENSsmile

            Good point… I’m turning in… going to bed… my wife waiting for me… good night, y’all! :-)

        • xiorcal

After neil in the last 2 minutes of the games vs the isles to see him stick with andy tonight it’s really hard to feel good about the way the team is manage.

          • SensChirp

They play tomorrow in New York. Lehner scheduled to start. Had to leave Andy in there.

          • Sandy

            Some don’t understand that..

          • xiorcal

This is the same coach who was playing the same goaltender in back to back this year chirp.

          • SensChirp

This wasn’t viewed as a game they “had to win”. And looked like it was going to be a back and forth kind of game. High scoring. Made sense to let Andy work through this one and have Lehner fresh for tomorrow.
            Nothing to discuss here.

          • Aaron 2.0

I don’t get that at all Chirp. I’m probably the biggest supporter on here saying always play both goalies in back-to-back games. But, when a player is being embarrassed like Anderson was tonight, you relieve him at some point, and worry about the next game after this one is over, IMO. And, much to my irritation this season, MacLean has had no problem actually starting the same goalie in both games of a back-to-back. So, that rational to leave him in net doesn’t fit with MacLean’s recent coaching decisions.

        • Jacques

Not much of an answer either. This team is a mess. He’s really hanging out to dry the guys he wants shipped out! Lots of money coming in, they can afford to really get rid of a few guys and Melnyk won’t feel the pinch. Might be run with the young guys, and if we blow chunks , we’ll load up at the draft in 2015 again. Rebuild part 2.

          • SensChirp

            That’s a pretty standard answer

          • Jacques

The messages are confusing, lots of nice pieces on this team. Not that far from being really good. Time for the young guys to take over. Look at the Isles the other night.

          • SensChirp

Haha nothing confusing about the message.

          • Jacques

Lots of changes coming with this roster.

          • Sensnation

If by lots you mean a few, sure lol. There won’t be as much change as you are hoping for.

          • xiorcal

For me it’s saying we don’t care anymore don’t you think?

    • SensChirp

      He said no such thing.

      • SensFanInMTL

        Not according to Ian Mendes.

        • SensChirp

“I just felt like with the circumstances, it was the right thing to do.” was the quote Mendes posted. Maybe there was more to it? Either way, goalie switch didn’t make sense tonight.

          • SensFanInMTL

Yeah dude I had it on my mind what MacLean had said but then forgot midway trying to collect me thoughts to paraphrase him. I haven’t drank tonight unfortunately.

          • Aaron 2.0

I have to respectfully disagree about the goalie switch, Chirp. Anderson clearly wasn’t on his game early. Why not pull after the 3rd or 4th goal. But, more than that, isn’t it just embarrassing for Anderson to leave him in there like that for 7 goals on 17 shots? I personally didn’t like that piece of coaching. If I were the goalie left in while I was clearly struggling, I’d be quite angry with the coaches.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I dont get it. Why didnt that 4th sens goal count? Just watched the highlighs….

    • sprucesens

yeah, i jsut watched as well. my guess is we pushed the player into the goalie, was the call. 9/10 that is called a good goal against us, but for us, not a chance. oh well. wouldn’t be any kind of season altering outcome

  • Andrews theory

I literally watched some 13 year old kid walk in wearing a Sens hat, cheer for the first three Sens goals then start cheering for the Habs.

When I booed Subban he turned to me and heckled me so about 5 seconds into it I said, what’s that hat on your head?…

He turned bright red and stopped talking. Unfortunately, I could not shut up the other 12000 Habs fans.

Andy was brutal tonight and his save percentage was actually flattering given they didn’t score on their last 7 shots and there was at least 3 others that were more of a pass than a shot.

    • Jacques

      Insane! Lol

  • Sandy

So what how does this team play tomorrow? Are they embarrassed enough?

    • Jacques

      Tomorrow, blowout again. Unfortunately.

  • Andrews theory

Spezza looked like he was just going through the motions tonight, not sure that he felt like playing after the first.

    • Jacques

      That says it all!

    • xiorcal

not sure he was fully ready to come back. I like that we saw him speaking with Pmac a couple of time. Chirp have you heard anything on how good the relation between the coach and is captain is?

      • Jacques

TVA the other night says there’s friction. Face it doesn’t play the game the Coach likes.

  • Sandy

    Ian Mendes ‏@ian_mendes 56m

I will be hosting Sens/Habs post-game show on @TSN1200 with @sdono10. Please pray for us.

    • Jacques

      So funny!

  • Sandy

Some of McLean’s post game thoughts.
The Senators got off to a great start on Friday night but ultimately couldn’t keep up the offensive pace over 60 minutes as they fell by a 7-4 score to the Montreal Canadiens. Sens head coach Paul MacLean offered his thoughts after the loss.

Here’s what he had to say…

On his feelings after the loss:

    I have none. I’m numb.

On building the lead and allowing Montreal back in:

I think we played, we came out and played, got the lead to 3-0 and stopped playing. We just stopped playing. We stopped doing the things that made us successful. We started giving them short rinks and all the regular adjectives we’ve used all year long. They didn’t make any mistakes.

On if the performance was frustrating:

No, it’s brutal. We’re at home and we stopped playing. It’s not right.

On if he had a message for the players after the game:

    Not directly after, no.

    On keeping Anderson in:

I just felt that under the circumstances it was the right thing to do.

    • Shibal

Maclean is just blah! blah! blah! for me this season. The guy seriously needs to get honest.

    • Andrews theory

The shot clock simply doesn’t support his comments….

      • SensFanInMTL

Shit hawks have also flew by in this horrendous shit storm!

        • Andrews theory

          Mr Lahey?

          • SensFanInMTL

That’s right bud! Shit puppets controlled our boys tonight.

          • Aaron 2.0

Lol. The winds of shit are blowing!

    • John Q. Spartan

He’s really good at telling everyone what went wrong. But never seems to fix it…

  • Andrews theory

In all honesty, Andy needs to step up as a veteran leader on this team and be accountable to his team if not in the media then certainly in the locker room. His effort and game tonight was shit and did not give them a chance to win…

    Take some ownership.

You can’t expect the young guys to be accountable if the veterans continue to pass the buck when they play like shit. Over the course of the year, we’ve seen this attitude from Spezza, Andy, Neil and CP ( although CP did recently admit he had a bad game which I find respectable)

    • Jacques

Those 4 guys should be moved, IMO

      • SensFanInMTL

On le sais mec. On le sais. Mauvais nouvelles, bud. I can almost guarantee those 4 will be back next season. But I love Spezza though.

        • Jacques

I know u do but he’s getting traded! Trust me! More and more experts are saying it! Look at him, he just floats out there.

        • Shibal

No matter how I look at it. Spezza is basically the same as Ovechkin; He’ll get you points, but all that cancels out with Spezza’s horrendous backchecking. Even today he somehow mangaged to be a -3 – ofcourse Anderson was crap. However in conclusion, Spezza is not the answer to get a cup.

          • Jacques

Finally, more and more people coming around! Ovechkin and Spezza will never win a CUP. I agree. Guys who win cups are TUrris,Zibby,Lazar. Release the young guns!

          • SensFanInMTL

I’ve accept that though. Honestly, no one man is bigger than the team. If moving him meant we would win the Cup, I would do just about anything to witness the Sens do it. I just feel there’s too much of a void to fill if and when he would be dealt.

          • Jacques

Cone on, look without him the lineup, we play a better brand of hockey. TUrris is a number one center, and Zibby needs to play 2C.

          • Shibal

Last year the sens were fine without Spezza. They took out the habs easily in the playoffs without letting in many goals. I mean is it a coincidence that the sens got torched by the Penguins right after Spezza returned in the playoffs? The sens let in like 6-7 goals in 2 of those games against the penguins.

          • Jacques

And in the double overtime game , game three Andy stopped about 55 shots. He came back not ready and stripped our peskiness. And frustrated Alfie in the process.

      • Sensnation

When every expert says it’s a young team that needs time to get older, Jacques says fuck that, we need teenagers!

    • Sensnation

Spezza’s been completely accountable this year. I agree about Anderson, he’s the ultimate “blame the other guy” type, but I disagree with it being across the board.

      • Andrews theory

Spezza specifically blamed a goal on Greening about a month ago and I don’t ever recall him saying he missed an assignment at any point which is something that is inherently part of his game.

I’m not advocating running him out of town but I don’t buy that’s he’s been as accountable as he needs to be

  • xiorcal

Not hockey related but how do you guys remove the red number next to your username ?

    • SensFanInMTL

The number just disappeared the second I clicked on it lol.

      • xiorcal

        that was easy

  • Andrews theory

I think Murray needs to have a sit down with Mac in the offseason and come to an agreement on who fits his “system” and who doesn’t.

As much as Mac has pissed me off this season, I believe firing him is a knee jerk reaction.

This team can’t continue to kill coaches especially a guy that is one season removed from two nominations and a win for coach of the year

    • Jacques

Who’s killing the coach? Tell us, you can do it? Have these players or player killed other coaches… HmmmI wonder?

      • Sandy

I was going to say the same thing.
When does it start being the players fault and not the coaches?
The system is the same it’s been for the past two seasons.. so what’s wrong this season? No Alfie or Gonchar. They let experience walk and went with a young defense and the loss of the soul of this team…
        Good on you … Melnyk

        • Jacques

Alfie knew it was going to be like this so he ditched, trust me!

          • Sensnation

He’s barely ahead of us in the standings. The difference between Ottawa and Detroit this year was literally Alfie.

          • Shibal

Detroit could have done way more damage this season if they were healthy.

          • Andrews theory

They just need to get into the playoffs.

I wouldn’t want to draw them, I can tell you that…

          • Sandy

I really don’t believe in Howard.. He is their weak link.

          • Andrews theory

            So was Osgood

          • John Q. Spartan

Ha, they started excelling when they weren’t healthy. A healthy Detroit team was hanging with Ottawa just fine…

          • Andrews theory

A drunken Melnyk ran him out of town.

            Not a theory…

          • Colin

Not a theory, but a nice story, eh?

          • Andrews theory

It’s a shity story but it comes directly from a guy close to the organization with multiple cup rings. He says it, I believe it.

          • Colin

Who said it? Who heard it?

          • Andrews theory

I heard it and posting the persons name on a blog isn’t about to happen…chirp heard the same story by the way

          • Colin

Oh, okay. Right. Sounds like a crock of shit.

          • Andrews theory

            Oh ok then…

          • Colin

LOL! You are the one floating a complete rumour bordering on libel. Too much!

          • Andrews theory

Ya, I just make this shit up in my spare time

By the way, the earth actually did prove to be round. Just sayin

          • Colin

Never said you made it up. You were told a story that you believe. That’s nice. I’m sure you believe everything you are told.

          • PraiseAlfie11

When many people are hearing different stories that all surround a single fact, it falls under the “where there’s smoke there’s fire”.

Myself, I heard from a BM family member that Euge will call BM in the very early morning (like 2am) in a “drunken stooper” (my own Ford reference) to talk about the team.

On its own, it’s nothing. Lumped together with all the other stories, it seems there may be something to the whole alfie story (him leaving because of EM).

          • Colin

“He ditched”. When the going gets tough, the tough ditch.

      • Andrews theory

You do realize the Sens had a nick name around the league as the coach killers up until recently right?

    • Sandy

Murray should know who fits in McLean’s system..

  • Sensnation

    Deep breath everyone!!!

    • SensFanInMTL

Shit storm has arrived mon chum. You see the shit hawks flying high above?

  • xiorcal

Well not a fun game to watch. But the team as played well in the last couples of game. Andy was something tonight. I hope they continue to progress and can’t wait to see what they will do this summer. Have a good night guys.

    • Jacques

      Happy thoughts man!

  • Sandy

We can always think of it this way…
Chicago has had bad seasons like this.. so has Pittsburgh, St Louis, Anaheim…
The best things come to those who wait. I just hope I’m still around to see the Sens reap the rewards in the future…

    • sell the team Eugene

5 to 7 years of pain until Melnyk sells the team and
      the real rebuild can start

      • PraiseAlfie11

Then in which city is the question.

  • T K

I still blame everything on Heatley and Emery. Everything is a consequence of their selfish immaturity.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Chirp been seeing some of the banter on twitter.

I will admit that I have been fairly critical of Maclean this year, and I do think justifiably, but if he is fired and Murray keeps his job this franchise has officially reached joke status.

We will basically be this generations NYI

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Also curious what you know by saying

      SensChirp ‏@SensChirp 3m

@6thSens Unless he’s about to get the C slapped on his jersey when Spezza leaves in the summer.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Also your post about Philips needing to be signed is BS…They dropped the ball on Alfie, signing Philips should have had no bearing what so ever

        • SensChirp

It did, unfortunately. And the fact that the team was worried about the state of the locker room, meant the “veteran” presence had to be retained. It was a decision made based on concerns about a young team combined with organizational reputation on how they treat their loyal veterans.
Tough spot but they did the right thing.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Again I disagree…the right thing would have been to resign Alfie for a season or two…and let Philips go. Or even with Alfie resigned possibly resign Philips to a 1 year(the end time of Alfies 2 year) and then reevaluate

          • SensChirp

Yes but they botched that, obviously. Not saying this was “planned” out this way. They screwed up on Alfie and had to get this one done, as a result.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Whats most frustrating is the fact that if the rumors are to be believed(and I think the drunken email/phone call which ever it is doesn’t really matter) then it isn’t really even Murrays mistake.

As much as I appreciate what Melnyk did for this team I am having a harder and harder time supporting them in any way financially with him at the helm.

          • SensChirp

I don’t blame ya. And I can tell you that based on what I heard this summer, I reached that same point prior to this season. And it has only gotten worse this year.
Of course I’ve still spent thousands of dollars on the team haha

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I suspect you will see more fans stepping back after this year, and I hate to see other fans blame them, or call them not real fans.

I know myself(have in one way or another had tickets in every year since the first win against MTL at the civic center) don’t plan to spend money on games next year…a good friend who has a few full season ticket pkgs has cancelled, another guy has two half seasons and has cancelled both. The two guys I mentioned are about as big of diehards as I have ever seen. Another friend who spends half his time here half in SJ, is buying SJ season tickets next year instead.

If Melnyk doesn’t step it up and step it up quickly thiings are going to get really bad around here. Spezza leaving(assuming he does, and I am starting to think it is a guarantee now) will just be the beginning of the exodus.

          • Jacques

Come on, a brand of hockey with heart without SPEZZA will bring fans to the CTC, this guy plays with no heart! He’s egocentric like Ovechkin. All about stats and very little about the team!

Hockey has to be played one way full tilt in both directions, once you have elements of the team straying from this the hard working guys look at each other and say why am I busting my ASS!

          • SensChirp

            You are the worst.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

            NAILED IT

          • Colin

            +100

      • SensChirp

Working on a Spezza article that will explain some of this. I think he has five games left in his career as an Ottawa Senator.

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

          Interesting/scary(although I don’t necessarily disagree)

          • SensChirp

Will post on Monday. But I’m sure you can figure out what it’s gonna say haha

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Damn don’t wait until monday!!! That is a whole two days away ahahaha

        • FistsofNeil25

It’s time for such a deal to happen. Not because he isn’t a good player, but because of his contract status, back/groin problems, and the fact that you can’t have a one dimensional player as your highest paid player and captain.

I will be so upset though if they give the C to Phillips or Neil…yuck!

        • PraiseAlfie11

If that happens, welcome to rebuild 2.0. Hemsky has openly stated he’s waiting on spezza. Michalek would be the same.

Which defensemen do people figure st louis would give for spezza?

          • FistsofNeil25

            Shattenkirk? Doubtful.

I can’t see St Louis dismantling their defense for Spezza. They have one of, if not the best group in the league.

Also doubt they would be willing to part with one of Oshie or Schwartz which would the pieces I would be interested in. I would honestly do Spezza straight up for either one of those guys.

Tarasenko would be a decent piece to add as well but Murray didn’t think he was worth drafting to he may turn his nose up at that idea…unless of course Tarasenko’s game has made him change his mind.

I don’t know much about St Louis’ prospects… Ty Rattie maybe? I dno

St Louis seems like a great fit for Spezza but and they have so many good young players I would love to have.

        • Don Ciccio

Spezza has been my favourite player on the team since Muckler stabbed Hossa in the back with the sign and trade. Having said this, Spezza has to go if we are keeping P. Maclean as our coach because Spezza can’t play the style of game that Maclean wants to play.
Spezza has looked very good in the offensive zone in the last couple of months but to me he is playing like a player that doesn’t want to get hurt before he signs his retirement contract. He never hits anyone anymore not that it was his style of play to begin with but, he just doesn’t battle for the puck like he used to. The one thing that I noticed with him out of the lineup besides the point that we didn’t score as much is the fact that we played better in our zone and there was never anyone open in the high slot because the centre was doing his job. Spezza again last night was a -3 and is starting to look a lot like Ovechkin in our zone. It pains me to say that because I will truly miss him when he leaves but at this point that is what is best for the team.

        • sprucesens

oh man, you can’t say that then leave us in the dark for a few days! We need to know the rumours!! lol. If his days are numbered who are the teams that are interested? And rumored returns?

    • sell the team Eugene

      you’re suprised ?

Eugene Melnyk = Charles Wang 2.0

      • Colin

But thank goodness we do not have Milbury as GM. Wang was bad, but Milbury was completely incompetent. He alone set that team back a decade.

      • Sandy

I think it’s more Eugene Melnyk = Harold Ballard.

  • jimmyjohnson

“If Ottawa wins out and the 5 teams from 8-12 lose all of their remaining games, they can still make it!!!!!!” says this guy in the booth across from me.

“The most unlikely part of that is Ottawa winning out.” says his friend.

    lmao

  • Jacques

I think Murray and MacLean need to sit down and talk players, MacLean wants an up tempo team that controls the puck and plays in both directions. He wants pressure on the puck in both zones. Well, if that’s the case , THE SENS have lots of these players on their present Roster and in the Minors! To fill the remaining spots we have to move the GUYS who Come nowhere near playing that way! Spezza, Cowen, Greening, Neil, Kassian. Let’s have some exciting Hockey again next year, as FANS we deserve it! GSG!

  • jimmyjohnson

anyone know who the refs were yesterday?

    • ZaZa

The one who blew the disallowed goal was the same ref who did the last shit show versus the Habs.

When I saw that ref on the ice last night before puck drop, I knew right away what the out come of the game would be. He is without a doubt one of the worst refs I have seen today in the league.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

    The 6th Sens ‏@6thSens 6m
Out of 194 defencemen who’ve played 500+ minutes, Chris Phillips is 190 out of 194 in goals allowed per 60 minutes of ice-time.

Don’t know if this is accurate, or where people come up with these stats(assume there is a website somewhere) but if so…….SO glad we resigned him

    *rolls eyes*

    • FistsofNeil25

That sounds about right. I wish Murray would stop thinking with his heart and start thinking with his brain when it comes to decisions like this.

My theory is that Melnyk stepped in and made Murray sign Phillips in order to save face after the Alfie debacle. Murray has to be smarter than this…giving 2 years @ 2.5 mill per season to a player that is a borderline NHL talent right now is screwed up man.

    • Floridasensfan

CP has one goal for the season despite being on the power play on numerous painful occasions. Another plus for CP resign.

  • Floridasensfan

Brutal game 7-5 really starting to hate Montreal.
    Rebuild 2 on the way?
really like Smiths play tonight start to finish. 13 goals so far 2 back from Mika

  • ZaZa

Anyone else realized this team lost its Identity as soon as BM stepped down from coaching to take the GM job?

BM shouldn’t have left coaching especially after going to the finals the year before. He was a great coach for this team at the time and because of John Paddock, Craig Heatsburg and Cory Clouston this team went to shit and had to be blown up. The Sens hasn’t had an identity since coach BM, and I still believe it was a huge mistake for this franchise when he left coaching.

In fact, BM still holds the highest winning percentage then any other Sens coach. What coach leaves his post after taking his team to the finals for the first time in franchise history?

    • whammer44

So it should be pointed out that Murray coached 17 years in the NHL and got past the 2nd round of the playoffs once.

As a GM Murray has taken 3 teams to the finals…to me this is where he is best suited.

      • ZaZa

Going to the finals as a coach with the Sens could’ve been a changing of the guard for him. He had the right players that were 100% committed to him and his style of coaching. Yes he’s a good GM but he also made an excellent coach for the Sens.

If he would’ve stayed as the Sens coach, who knows how many times he could’ve won or even gone to the finals. I’m just saying, this team lost its identity as soon as he stepped down.

    • sprucesens

I’d just like to repost something i said a few days ago. IF maclean is let go, would we ever go with an actual NHL head coach? All the above are coaches that have little or no NHL experience as a head coach prior to with the sens. Its been AHL coaches or assistants. Maybe we need someone who has been around the block for a while. I would guess unless there is a fued between the coach and whoever else, he is given another year to see where he is heading

  • thepez

Last nights game was a demonstration of what has been a consistent problem with this team. When they play well they are hard to beat. The Detroit beat down when they won 6-1, when they beat Chicago 5-3 (except for the 2nd period) and there were others. However when something goes wrong this team is just not mentally tough enough to overcome. That first Habs goal basically killed them last night. I was screaming at coach Mac to pull Andy after the second goal, but unfortunately he did not hear me from my living room. This team is mentally soft, period. The bright side is meltdowns like these should make this group stronger.

As for if this is the worst season ever, my opinion is the 2007-08 season was the worst. We went from 13-1 start to scraping to get into the playoffs, and then getting waxed by the Pens 4 straight.

Lastly, I really hope that Spezza is not traded, however if he is traded then I really believe that Phillips and Neil should have to go as well. Start with a new leadership group, which is led by Turris, MacArthur and EK65.

I guess in a strange way, I’m really looking forward to September when training camp opens. Should be interesting to see who the starting 20 are on opening night 2014-15.

    • whammer44

Agree 100% with this. And if somehow they decide to keep Spez they still should need to find a way to get out of the Phillips mistake. Can they convince him to be next years Joe Corvo? Can they get him to retire and give him Reid’s job so everyone can save face? Can they get someone to lead pipe his leg?

      • sprucesens

yeah, interesting point, i can’t see the org keeping phillips and neil and parting with spezza. If they are entertaining offers for spezza, we should do a full change from the old guard to the new age. Normally i wouldn’t be mad if we traded spezza for a good return, but if we kept phillips and neil because of their “leadership” over spezza, i probably would be upset.

        • FistsofNeil25

Me too. I want to see the team turned over to the new young core. Let Turris and Karl lead the way.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

            And Lehner.

If we move spezza I want to see all of

            Spezza
            Philips
            Neil
            Anderson

Moved…. Any less and it’s another half assed rebuild

          • sprucesens

yeah, i don’t think it happens though. maybe anderson, and if a team comes knocking with a great offer, maybe spezza. But i’m sure the others are here for life.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Chirp seems to be convinced we are seeing Spezzas swan song now… If he moves I think we do what we should have done three years ago and full on rebuild.

          • thepez

Do you really believe by trading Spezza we are in a full rebuild? The defense withe the exception of Phillips is 28 or younger. You have guys like Turris, Ryan, MacArthur etc…. Trading Spezza should get back at least an established player and a #1 draft pick. If not keep Spezza.

I really see this as a tweak not a rebuild.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

It may complete the rebuild… But you need to move on from our current “leadership” group of Spezza, Philips, and Neil.

            Move onto some of

            Turris
            Ryan
            MacArthur
            Karlsson
            Methot

          • thepez

Philips and Neil I agree with you. Not convinced that Spezza should be traded. I’ve said this before, offer him a three year extension and if he does not take it then trade him.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I too don’t blindly believe trading Spezza is the answer… But at this point I think it has to be seriously explored. Although if he is moved we can tack on another wtf to the management team…. Why give him the C to just move him a year later.

          • FistsofNeil25

Answer to what exactly? It’s a deal that would be made to improve for the future of the organization. Will trading Spezza make us a better team next season? Not likely. But depending on what we get in return, it will hopefully make us a stronger team by the time that Turris, Karlsson, Zibanejad, Cowen, Lazar, Lehner, Stone, Puempel etc are entering their prime.

This team’s window of opportunity is a few years away. Spezza likely isn’t going to be an impact player by the time this happens. I don’t even know if he’s an impact player at all any more.

How many games do you guys think Spezza has been fully healthy for this season? 25? 30? At most. He battled through back/hip groin pain for the entire first half of the season and it showed big time in his game. Now those injuries are bothering him again and it’s painful to watch. The poor guy could barely get around the rink last night.

The people that are hanging on to the fact that Spezza is still an elite point per game center in this league are only kidding themselves. It’s time to move on. He just isn’t what we need any more and trading him now would simply be smart asset management.

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Agree completely… Although one problem we run into moving him is the fact that we have so many guys under contract already.. It’s tough to imagine a scenario where moving him doesn’t increase that number

          • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

            Don’t forget Michalek!

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Just don’t resign him… We missed our chance to move him

          • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Yep, we missed our chance to move a few guys, most are worth nothing now

          • jimmyjohnson

I’m still so pissed off about that. I’ve been a BM non-hater for his entire tenure, but signing Phillips and ESPECIALLY not moving Michalek drove me ****ing NUTS!

      • jimmyjohnson

why do people blame Reeds for anything?

        random scapegoating to the max.

Everything runs through the head coach. If part of the system fails, the head coach takes the blame (or the whole staff).

        • PraiseAlfie11

I lay the blame squarely on the 50/50 ticket vendor outside of section 215.

          • jimmyjohnson

I actually lay blame on Karlsson’s hot new gf

          • PraiseAlfie11

Well, there are those rumours about the ticket guy hitting on her at a fratelli restaurant…

        • whammer44

Not blaming him, just a tongue in cheek way of finding a way to remove Phillis from the line up.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I don’t even think I can bring myself to watch tonight’s game.

    • jimmyjohnson

      Tonight’s game will be fun.

If you root for Lehner to match Anderson’s incompetence, then it becomes more of a s***show competition and it’s actually a lot easier to take.

  • PraiseAlfie11

Cowen and spezza to Nashville for Weber.

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

      Stop.

      • PraiseAlfie11

Haha :) that didnt take long haha

    • jimmyjohnson

We’d need to add quite a bit.

      • PraiseAlfie11

It was more of a joke…chirp figures spezza is gone (earlier in this thread) so I stirred the pot a bit :)

        • jimmyjohnson

          Yeah I get that.

But it would take a heck of a lot more to get Weber.

  • BeJamin

Chirp if you are 100% convinced this is happening I’m not that surprised – but realistically do we get better? How do you feel about him leaving. Is it going to be a lose trade like we originally thought with Heatley?

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Originally? We still lost that trade

      • BeJamin

But not nearly as badly as we thought we would. We had Michalek at 4m + 3-3.5M of space to spend on others. And milo has been the better for the last 3 years

        • jimmyjohnson

          Michalek is terrible.

He is one of the worst players on the team, who also happens to be one of the fastest and have one of the best shots.

It’s actually crazy how awful he is.

          • BeJamin

This year his first half was miserable (injury) and second half has been so/so. He isn’t what he used to be but for a couple years he was a great 200 foot winger who could score. If you judge him by just this year then I suppose that comment has some validity. It doesn’t really add to the argument. As tough a year as he’s had, still better than Heatley who’s career is all but over whilst milo looks like he can still be a productive third Line player. It’s all about the role he’s given.

          • jimmyjohnson

I’m judging him on 5 years in a Sens uniform. I’ve seen every game he’s played here and he is much worse than his already poor stats. It’s all the worse that they insist on putting him with Spezza when they have absolutely no chemistry.

I actually really hate the org for doing that. They just keep forcing them to line up together and STILL there’s nothing to show for it, except for multiple career lows.

  • Harv

Keep Michalek on the 4th line. If he doesn’t like it – sayonara, baby.
Trade Spezza and try to keep Hemsky. If Hemsky walks – sayonara, baby.
Ask Bobby, Eric, Clarke and Kyle for their input into the future. What do they need to happen to be happy.
Short leash on the coach. Whatever head games he is playing are insulting to knowledgeable fans and driving people away. He could be the best coach in hockey but without a fan base there is no hockey.
Phillips – oh my, what to do about Phillips a player who is having trouble facing his own reality? 7th D, no higher and use him as a mentor. Overpaid but it is the Barbados’ guys problem.
Melynk, Murray and McLean get locked in a room until they are agreed on who does what next year. Use 70/100 theory of management. If you are 70% convinced you are 100% on board and suck it up lollipop – get on with it.
Guys I would like to see not in Ottawa next year – Spezza as captain – he does not bring it every shift, shows no emotional attachment to a win or loss and COASTS too damn much. Neil – love the guy but he is costing us. Greening – please, someone take Greening. Cowen – I think he has reached his potential and it is not good enough. Kassian – surely I do not have to explain this choice. This would open up some spaces for the young troops who have shown their potential.

Interesting tidbit from an Ottawa Sun article:

While they’ve come up shy of playoff qualification twice since the 1996-97 campaign, over the same span both the Canadiens and Canucks have missed six times, the Leafs and Oilers nine times and the Flames 11 times.

  • Sandy

IF Spezza is traded, then this team is going re-build again. I think Bryan Murray now realizes he will never win a Cup with what this team has now…
So, here’s my lineup for next season..
    Ryan-Turris-McArthur
    Hoffman-Zibby-Stone
    Prince-Lazar-Toffoli
    Neil-Smith-Grant
    Kassian
Now I kept Neil, Smith & Kassian as the others are not exactly physical players. Overall it’s a ‘soft’ lineup and who plays on the PK is another question..
    Karlsson-Edler
    Methot-Wiercioch
    Cowen-Ceci/Phillips
    Lehner
    Jones
Spezza is traded to LA for Toffoli – Martin Jones and a 1st or 2nd round pick.
Anderson is traded to Vancouver for Edler and a pick..
    The rest are gone somewhere..
That’s a lot of youth and inexperience and it could get you Connor McDavid… or these guys may be the ones who work hard every shift — a 200 ft game and get the team into the playoffs.. Who the hell knows.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Don’t mind the deals, but think you are overvaluing Spezza.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Although, I would still prefer to just deal with Winnipeg and get Kane and Buf

        • Sandy

Yeah Spezza will waive his NTC to go to the Jets

    • Roar…

That argument can be made, but honestly I don’t see it that way. Spezza will have to be moved or signed long-term. This cross-roads was always coming. He has the most value on a great team that can insulate his weaknesses to take full advantage of his talent. If you get back a top 6 winger 25 or younger who plays a solid 200 foot game + a decent 25-27 year old defender who can be the 3rd or 4th D on this team you have a pretty good deal for Ottawa. One that lets the rest of the lineup balance out.

  • Sandy

Not excusing the bad play this season.. but I think Sens fans have been spoiled with playoff appearances. If Murray doesn’t fix that defense.. then it will be more of the same next season..

This is only the 3rd time since the 1996/97 season that the Sens have not made the playoffs. In that same time frame the Canucks & Habs missed 6 times; the Leafs & Oilers 9 times and the Flames 11 times..

  • Sandy

The Avs & Blues game is getting a little bit nasty.

Backes goes after McKinnon who is now hurt… Bad for the Avs if out long term like Duchene…
