Game Day- Senators Host Silfverberg, Ducks

On the heels of their most impressive win of the season the Ottawa Senators return home to take on the team that handed them their most embarrassing loss of the season a couple weeks ago.

The Sens host Jakob Silfverberg and the Ducks in a rare Friday night game at the Canadian Tire Centre.

(UPDATE 10:56 AM)- As is usually the case with Head Coach Paul MacLean, he’s a little hesitant to tinker with a winning line up.  That means we’ll see the same combinations that worked in Detroit the other night.  Patrick Wiercioch, Jean Gabriel Pageau and Matt Kassian are in the press box.  Here is how the Senators are expected to line up

Michalek-Spezza-Conacher
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Grant-Zibanejad-Condra
Greening-Smith-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Corvo
Phillips-Gryba

While these are the combinations at the morning skate, keep an eye on Colin Greening.  He took a bunch of shifts on the top line on Wednesday and could find himself up there again tonight.  Craig Anderson gets the start for Ottawa.

Puck drop is just after 7:30 PM with plenty of tickets remaining.

  • A-O

Ducks lost last night so you know they’ll bring it tonight. Sens are in for a tough one.
    Go Sens Go!

    • Tooks

They didnt just lose, they got embarrassed by an injury plagued MTL team. I would be surprised if we won tonight. Happy, but surprised.

      • Jacques

What a stupid comment – if the Leafs were playing the Ducks though tonight the Ducks would be up against it! Dude, I’ll bet you anything you want that when the Dust settles the SENS are at least 5 points up on your LAUGHS!

        • Tooks

Well the Leafs did beat ANA 4-2, but needed some late game heroics by Kessel to win, but they won.

As for your bet, why would I do that, I have the Sens finishing ahead of Leafs.

How did we do vs the Ducks, maybe you can enlighten me on that, since you seem to be a Sens expert.

          • boom

It’s funny, I disagree with you on alot of things, and we have our back and forths, but I have never figured out where this assumption that you love the leafs comes from.
I pointed out, in another post, that the leafs top six is as good as it gets, so I hope I don’t get labeled in the same manner. I don’t know that I could handle that…

          • Tooks

I know its weird, almost every respected poster here admits Leafs are quickly becoming a good team (like us) and I’m the only one that gets blasted or labelled a Leafs fan, lol, its funny.

But I take it for what it is, usless banther, especially when it comes from posters who just signed up to try and trash talk at my level.

          • MrSkullhead

            Shut up, Leafs fan! :)

          • Jacques

Are you serious r you his brother or something?

          • Jacques

            Whateva!

    • Mexican Baby Jesus

We won’t lose at home to a clearly overachieving ducks team

  • SensChirp

I know this may seem like a weak game day post but this was posted from my phone. In my books, this is every bit as impressive as “The Table”.

    • my2sens

When the table was posted, we were blown away and all left thinking, how is SC going to top this?

Then… just when things are quiet… BAM!! you post from your phone!!!

      WHOA!!!

Next you’re going to post a table from your phone!

      YOU ARE MY HERO!

    • xN1Cx

Your turning into Freidge! A one man mobile machine :)
Nice work Chirp – very impressed you got an image to go along with it and everything!
I am very excited to see our bottom 6 go to work again tonight. If they can play four lines like they did at the Joe then I will be very excited to not shut up again about the Sens!
      Loving every minute of it!

    • Ausiesen

      I’m still proud of you.

    • The Apostle

that sir, is clearly nonsense. That table was epic.

    • C.J.

      that table thoooo

  • my2sens

SC – Should we commence discussions here and you will update your post above, or shall we await a new post?

    • SensChirp

Carry on here. Will add line ups after the morning skate.

  • aegiszx

Ducks are one of the top teams right now, and after losing to the Leafs, they’ll come out motivated and flying.

Hoping SIlf stays off the scoreboard tonight… and Ryan lights it up.

    • Tooks

They lost to Habs last night, Leafs on the 22nd.

      • The Apostle

Then I like our chances considering he’s on injured reserve.

        • Tooks

So we see Hiller again?! or Andersen? HAHA might be Anderson vs Andersen!

          • The Apostle

Andersen played well in his one appearance so far this season. 24 save win (24 shots) in relief against Dallas so I doubt the ducks would have any problems throwing him in.

Fasth had a setback in training on Wednesday apparently.

  • MethotToMyMadness

Was swamped yesterday, didn’t get to say much about the Detroit game. While It’s all been said already, I do want to add that I don’t recall watching a more complete game, with exception to Ottawa’s Game 3 vs the Habs.

It was great to watch all the lines clicking. Spezza lead with authority in every aspect, our newest sniper banged 2 home and Gryba played a great physical game, while also slotting one in the top corner. In fact, the first 3 goals were all perfectly placed top corner shots. Not something you see happen too often, especially with Ottawa’s ability to miss the net frequently. All that aside, we looked like the team everyone expected to see, when the season started. Well done boys! Let’s carry this over into tonight’s match against a frustrated Anaheim Team.

It’s no secret that roads trips are tough on any team. Ottawa faced that music early in the season. Now it’s Anaheim’s turn to feel the pain. Anaheim is sporting a losing record on this road trip which saw them defeated at the hands of the Leafs and Habs. Now in a back to back situation, they must face our beloved Sens and like you, I’m eager to see the Sens hand them their 3rd lose in a row to 3 Canadian teams.

Before the Detroit game, I mentioned we may see a possible 1st line shuffle with Conacher coming off the top line. I suggested Zib, and even mentioned Greening as the alternate after a few back and forth msg’s with Tooks. Well, it was only a shift or two in and Greening was on the top line. It’s nothing against Conacher, he’s a gritty player and can notice some points. But you won’t see Milo taken off Spezza’s wing, not if Ryan stays on the 2nd line with Turris. I think PMac loves the 1st and 2nd line balance right now.

You can’t complain when you have 5 players on the top two lines having scored 37 points out of a combined team total 77. I think it’s pretty easy to see, the only true vacancy is that top line wing position and I have no doubt we’ll continue to see players given a chance to try it out.

  • MethotToMyMadness

Also, a quick congrats on landing at #2 on the Ian Mendes Sens blogger power rankings!!!

    • Tooks

Haha yeah! Congrats indeed, well deserved!

      • Alcatraz

Although in terms of Sens Blogs I actually think Chirps should be #1, Yost #2, 6thSens #3, just in terms of community, and what the blog does

Bonk’s Mullet would be #1 Sens tweeter, since his blog is more or less just a canvass for his humor, I don’t get anything of value from him accept for lots of laughs

Mendes and Mullet know each other rather well, so I’m assuming thats why he is #1

Again, Sens bloggers/tweeters to follow Mullet is for sure #1, with Chet Sellers #2, Luke Persity #3, Chirp #4, Yost #5

Chirp is slowly getting funnier haha, but he will have a long time to go to get into that top 3

        • TookieIs100PercentRight

          I rank them:
          1)Welcome to your Karlsson Years – just absolutely hilarious and irreverent;
          2)Silver Seven Sens – Great amount of links, commentary, all that stuff;
          3)The 6th Sens – Again great incisive comment, irreverent;
          4)Chirp – I love Chirp for doing this site for us but it could use some more opinion, a lot of the time it’s just updates. The community here is the BEST though;
5)BlackAcesOttawa – Can’t read this one more than once every two months, he just comes across as having pom-poms on his hands while he types and being in love with everyone, the “voice” of the blog is pretty monotonous as well. But overall it’ a pretty good read.
          TOOKS100% OUT!!!!

          • boom

It’s funny that both of you rank Chirp no higher than 4th – if you spend more time on these other sites than you do here (you must, right?), you really gotta get out more…

          • Alcatraz

Well if you read properly I had Chirp #1 for actual blog and community, and ranked Chirp 4th for online personalities to follow, ie twitter and humor etc, which takes up very little time in my life to do

          • boom

Just yankin your chain a little bit. The fact that I replied within minutes of your post proves that old adage about “those who line in glass houses…”

          • SensChirp

Maybe it’s just because it’s the one we know so well, but I think the Sens blogosphere is among the strongest in the NHL. Great variety in there and some really talented people.

There are others that write better than I do or are funnier than I am or stats better than I do, but nobody comes close to the SensChirp community.

            My Rankings
            1)SensChirp Community
            2) The Rest of em

          • Jacques

I think you do a great job! Now if we could only do something about Tookie.

    • Smash88

Where can this list be found?

    • TookieIs100PercentRight

I think the fact there’s a Chirp Jr. definitely helped with that! :)
      Congrats boss!

    • Hax

I don’t frequent all the blogs mentioned, but I do rank Chirp at the top. For a one-man show it’s superior to the rest for sure. Silver Seven Sens is good too but mostly due to them having a few contributors that are decent. 6th Sens I like as well.

And agree with those that say the community here is the best (though since we ARE the community I’m not sure if we’re impartial on that one).

  • Terry

How about looking at it this way, if an injury plagued Montreal team can derail the Ducks, there is NO reason why the Senators can’t win as well, depending of course on which Ottawa team shows up. Anaheim played last night, sure they will come motivated but Ottawa is rested and played their best game of the season on Wed. They went into Detroit and won convincingly. How about looking at the positives and the fact that the Ducks are beatable.

    • Tooks

Teams hardly ever play the same way twice, so look at it this way, Sens wont be as good as when they played DET and ANA wont be as bad as they were vs MTL.

Only saving grace is ANA will have a fresh hot goalie in nets, young buck a la Lehner. So this could be very good or very bad.

The FW and D pretty much cancel each other out.

      • Terry

It’s true that teams hardly play the same way twice, but to say the Senators are going to play worse then they did in Detroit is getting ahead of yourself. Ottawa may end up playing better, no one knows until puck drop. But to say that you would be surprised if Ottawa won tonight is a bold and pessimistic statement.
I believe that Ottawa can BEAT ANY TEAM on any given night, just like any team COULD BEAT THEM on any given night but as a fan I have to look at the situation.
Anaheim hasn’t played well the last couple games.
        Anaheim played last night.
Anaheim is on a road trip.

Ottawa played great 60 min 2 way hockey last game.
        Ottawa beat Detroit IN Detroit.
Ottawa will be motivated to win at home.
Ottawa will be motivated to avenge the loss.

        • JAY79

I’ve been reading the comments on this board for a while and I have to say, Tooks is really becoming unbearable to listen too. It’s gotten to the point where I just skip his comments all together because it’s usually something negative and uninformed.

  • Aaron 2.0

Not sure if someone posted this already, but apparently Koivu isn’t playing the 2nd game in back-to-back games this season. It’s totally slipped my mind where I read this, but if true, we catch a mini-break there.

    • SensChirp

Thought I read the same about Selanne…

      • Aaron 2.0

Oops. My bad on that. Thanks for pointing that out, everyone. But, yeah, we catch a bit of a mini-break there.

    • Hax

Yeah it’s Selanne that they’ve been talking about not playing back-to-back games at his age.

    • Alcatraz

And by Koivu you mean Selanne?
Because I know Selanne wont be lol

    • Hax

Selanne is apparently “game time decision”. A ploy to sell a few more tickets?

      Probably not.

  • SensFanInMTL

Ouu no, Silfverberg, say ouu no Silfverberg.

    • Hax

Maybe just chant “Oh-Ah Mac-Arth-Ur, say oh-ah MacArthur!” instead?

  • Hax

All signs point to the same lineup tonight. Pageau taking part in full practice so whatever injury he’s nursing is clearly not too bad. But it seems unlikely there will be any changes after the best 60-minute effort last game. MacLean likes to send messages like that.

Also, for those that worry about such things, it appears the Sens will wear their white sweaters tonight.

    • MrSkullhead

Our white sweaters? But we’re home…

      • Hax

Right. But a few times per year teams will wear their whites at home and the opposition typically wears their 3rd sweater or something. I’m fairly certain the home teams gets to choose and the visitors must wear a sweater that’s very different in color (i.e. they can’t both wear white or both wear a dark color). Anyway, it could change I suppose but they wore their white helmets during today’s skate which usually means white sweaters at game time.

Heck maybe the Ducks requested it since they stunk up their own white sweaters last night??

        • Alcatraz

Maybe it was a trade off? When we played Anaheim last, didn’t they wear there vintage white quacking ducks jerseys?

          • Hax

No they wore their old Might Ducks ones and we wore white as I recall.

          • Engin Sezerman

I think back in the 2007-08 season Anahiem wore their white jersey at home when the Sens went a west-coast road trip.

  • Tooks

That last line in your post SC is very dissapointing…

  • karlssens

Pumped for the game tonight, hoping the sens can grab a win. I feel like the boys will go out flying.

I don’t want to be preachy, but guys if you have any spare money please go watch the boys play. Everyone of us would be depressed for years if we loose this team. Not saying it’s going to happen, but let’s be grateful we have a hockey team in our backyard.

Spend a little less on alcohol here, walk/ bike some places instead of driving, eat less, do what it takes to save a few bucks to go see the boys play!!

I’m 21, and I split on a half season package. It’s not much, but everyone can afford it if they budget accordingly! Go Sens Go!!

    • Hax

“eat less” – now THAT’s dedication people.

      • karlssens

You’d be surprised, a 200$ grocery bill instead of 300$ goes a long way. No need to be a dick! JeeZe..

        • Hax

Wasn’t being a dick at all. And yes, of course, if one were to buy less junk food etc they could use that money for tickets. Just sounded funny as “eat less” is all.

          • karlssens

Oh okay… Misinterpreted your comment.. My bad

    • karlssens

We are a Canadian city, there’s no reason we shouldn’t fill up the rink every game!

      • Tooks

You speak the truth and it will eventually be our downfall.

    • Terry

I couldn’t afford the flights from Calgary for every game, otherwise I would!!! I do plan to make a trip to catch a game at Canadian Tire Centre soon!!!

      • SensFanInMTL

I can’t either where I’m in. I’m not allowed to rent a car at Rent-A-Car.

    • Alcatraz

Living in Barrie makes it hard to buy ticket packages

And when they do actually come and play in Barrie they freaking charge $90 for a pre-season game…That was ridiculous

      • karlssens

What makes you cheer you Ottawa if you don’t mind me asking? Living out there and all?

  • NickofTime

We did see a lot of Greening on that top line on Wednesday & I would expect to see more of him there again especially if our top line is going head to head against the big line of Annhiem. Conacher also played well during the preseason with Zibanejad, wouldn’t surprise me to see him take a few shifts with Zibanejad & Grant. In fact, I would prefer those lines Greening with Spezza & Michalek & Conacher with Zibanejad & Grant, that would create three formidable scoring lines. Condra plays just as well with Smith & Neil anyway to form a checking line.

  • Kielbasa

Here’s hoping that the Sens team that shows up tonight is the same Sens team that showed up against Detroit. Especially since I’ll be at the game tonight, I want a hard fought and exciting 60 minutes to cheer for.

    • Terry

Enjoy the game!! I am feeling the Senators can pull this out if they play smart, physical hockey!!

  • hq8

haha chirp now listing Zbad as 3LC. i think at this point it really comes down who does PMac use more in the game – the smith line or the Zbad line.
i dont know if anyone has noticed but Spezza is on-pace for 60+ goals this year!?!?!?! yea, as much as we all were looking for a sniper, he was on the sens roster all along, just not shooting enough.
Ryan is on pace for 50+. that would be ridiculously amazing if he spends the year next to Turris and pots 50+. that would make Turris quite a rich man on his next contract.
now if MM9 can ramp up to his 35 goal pace. and CMac can pot 25ish. that would be something.

    • Tooks

You do know they wont keep that pace…As much as I want them too, Spezza wont hit 60+ goals and Ryan wont hit 50+. Somewhere around 35-45 is much more realistic and still totally awesome!!

      • Millennium

I could see Ryan hitting fifty with the increased PP time and some chemistry with Turris. He’s already had his best October of his career this year.

        • Tooks

Well here’s to hoping he hits 51 and removes “the Douche” from our record books!

          • Alcatraz

Thats weird I really thought our team doesn’t have a record holder for:
1- Most goals in a year
2- Most points in a year
            3- Most goals all time
            4- Most assists all time
            5- Most points all time
6- Most games played all time
Its all a blank for me

          • Tooks

What is this, a joke? :P
Alfie I dont have a problem with as he deserves all those records but Douche bag has to go. Hopefully Spezza get get a 102pt season this year!

    • The Apostle

MacArthur is on pace for 0 goals this year.

Which kind of proves how pointless the whole on pace thing is after one tenth of the season.

      • aegiszx

Agreed lol but Sid looks like he’s on pace for 200 pts…

Seriously though, once mid season comes around, that’s when we should really start looking at the stats. So many players and clubs will begin to fall off after the first few weeks.

  • Terry

I am not comparing the two but back in the 80s when defense starting playing Gretzky to always pass, The Great One started to shoot more and we know what kind of records he set after that. Spezza is the same situation, teams play him to pass a lot and now he is starting to shoot more making defense have play him as a shooter and a passer.

They are two players in two very different times but in similar situations and Spezza may flourish because of it.

    • Tooks

Gretz was always a goal scoring machine (he grew up learning to pass cuz he would score too often), Spezza is more of a passer at heart but he does have a wicked shot.

    • Alcatraz

Case in point his first goal vs Detroit. The whole PK collapsed to the passing lanes. Spezza hesitated almost 3 times before finally saying “fuck it” I’m shooting

      • Tooks

Looking at that goal closely, it hits the defenders pants (more like brushes), had it not, it was going wide or and inch to the right, blocked. Its awesome to see how close a goal is decided by mere inches man. Great placement by Spezza!

        • MethotToMyMadness

Agreed, and it happened on 3 of the 6 goals. That in itself is a full butt load of luck!!! And the first 3 goals, all top corner goals. So nice!!!

      • Hax

At the time, I thought that was more about Spezza trying to anticipate a lane opening up rather than any reluctance to shoot. I agree his brain is wired to think pass first but I think he’s doing a good job evaluating the smart play (shoot/pass/hold) more.

Really it will probably go in waves. If he shoots a lot over a few games and scores then teams will pressure him more which will open up passing lanes. And vice versa. Almost like an NFL team that only runs or relies on passing only – that only works for so long.

I hope to see Spezza continue to evolve into a guy with a dangerous shot but if you try to take that away he’ll find the open man.

    • Alcatraz

The other thing is dont confuse scoring more with shooting more either. Spezza has scored on like 6 of his last 8 shots over a 3 or 4 game span. Those aren’t great shooting numbers, against lets say Ovechkin who averages 19.5 shots per 60 minutes. Spezza would probably fall in the 6-8 shots range per 60

  • Phil.

Off topic I know, but I wanted to clarify a response I made to sprucesens and Sandy in a previous thread. I stated that suspensions that happened more than 18 months prior could not be considered for new suspensions.
That is, it turns out, only the NHLPA’s interpretation. Just read Bettman’s rejection of Kaleta’s appeal and he interprets the CBA to indicate that the 18 month limits only applies to calculating salary loss only, not length of suspension.
Bettman makes the point that if the NHLPA can argue that a given player has had good behavior throughout their careers (first offenders) to justify minimal suspensions then the NHL can consider “bad behavior” for the duration of a player’s career (repeat offenders) for increased suspensions.

Little less than three hours till puck drop. Predictions for this evening?

    • Phil.

      4-3 Sens.
Grant, MacArthur, Perry, Bonino, Fowler, Conacher, Michalek; in that order.

      • SenaWalrus

You think MacArthur will finally score?

At least you didn’t predict Condra!

        • Phil.

it’s a Turris shot that deflects off his leg.

  • Jacques

    4-2 Sens tonight

  • Robert Cyr

Puck drop in less than 30 minutes !

Let’s keep the momentum from the last game, transition into tonight’s game.
Stay out of the penalty box and move your feet for 60 minutes
Result should deliver a 5-2 win for our Sens .

    GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • SensChirp

Strong start will be key in this one. Ducks played last night so an early lead could go a long way for the Sens.
Comments made by Methot, Ryan, etc. show that the Senators were flat out embarrassed with how things went back in Anaheim. Interested to see how they responds/

    • MikeS

being within 1 going into the third should be good enough for the win tonight imo

But Conacher belongs back on the first line though. Don’t really know why Mac demoted him..

  • karlssens

    Lol make up call

    • MikeS

I would be mad about that if i was an anaheim fan, mind you the neil penalty was kinda cheesy

  • T K

The boys are showing lots of hustle. Nothing to complain about except the score

  • karlssens

Yup. Can easily come back into this one.

  • hq8

so, refs are fucking up this game. 2nd goal, karlsson was clearly tripped up behind the net by perry, but no call.

in other news, islanders coach really testing the limits of matchup luck by constantly putting out matt carkner out against sidney crosby. already got burned once. even the penguins commentators are making fun of it.

  • MikeS

why the hell is philips on PP1…

    • hq8

yea. ruined the whole PP. why cant he just have a quiet game with low minutes like he did against detroit.

  • hq8

ok so i think cowen has had all the champagne for the 100th game mark before the game itself.

  • MikeS

This game is still very winnable, just they need to start playing now….

  • karlssens

    Very boring game so far

  • Conor_smythe

Did this game just turn into a track meet?

    #Ihopenot

    • MikeS

you should hope so, sens should have more legs tonight then the Ducks in the third, Track meet would help this out

      • Conor_smythe

Track meets are sloppy and the only reason leafs win games

Ottawas game is not that type of game

        I stand by my statement

  • MikeS

lawl zibby just decked silfer off the faceoff

  • MikeS

    plz no phillips

  • T K

    YES

  • hq8

i just dont get why the sens dont put corvo on the PP. he has the shot to make it happen

  • MikeS

    ZIBBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  • MikeS

I think hes back for good

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

FUCK YOU PAUL MACLEAN. MIKA LIVES.

  • hq8

im telling you guys, zibanejad is the total package on this team. he is THE IMPACT player on this team.

    • MikeS

I think its actually murray who wanted to send him down, Mac can never keep him down

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Chris Neil…………………………………………………………………………………………

    • T K

A Shorty would have been priceless

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I don’t care what any of you homers think. Chris Neil does more harm than good. Watch the friggin games. It’s a no brainer.

        • T K

Personally, I think that he’s a wash… Negatives and positives cancel each other out.

          • jasonontheoldsenschirp

            Not even close.

  • MikeS

    asgahagfdasg…….so many penalties

  • MikeS

    gryba penalty for bodychecking?

  • Colin

    Roughing? Bullshit!

  • MikeS

4 chances to clear and they fail on all of them….

  • MikeS

    penalty shot??

    • MikeS

      guess not

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Jared Cowen’s been our best player tonight.

    • MikeS

      Id say anderson

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Did you see the first goal against?

    • Colin

      MacArthur close second.

  • MikeS

that a blatant trip in front of the ref?

    • Colin

Depends. If a Duck went down, it’s a penalty.

  • MikeS

    Step 1: stop taking penalties,
    Step 2: control the play,
    Step 3: WIN

  • hq8

that last sequence right after the penalty ended with cowen and phillips on the ice: cowen doesnt want the puck, tells phillips to push it into neutral zone, but phillips passes the puck back to cowen and cue anaheim offensive zone time for a good minute.

when will they get rid of this guy…….he is well well past his best-by date.

  • MikeS

    Those hands

  • karlssens

    Play bobby more.. He’s flying!

    • MikeS

      crazy

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Mac has no idea what to do with his lines. Clueless.

    • hq8

its because of the penalty parade. also, havent seen greening all period……or atleast the 2nd half of it.

    • Colin

He is looking for a spark that will get them a goal. Seems to be using Zbad & Ryan as they look like the hot hands right now.

      • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I really hope. Because honestly: THE DUCKS REALLY AREN’T THAT GOOD. The fact that they couldn’t seal away the game with all of the PP chances should give the group motivation. But Ottawa needs to play better.

    • MikeS

Feel free to apply for the sens coaching job

  • karlssens

Keep Ryan with Turris and Mac.. They should be eating up majority of p3 minutes..

  • karlssens

Feel free to toss us a pp

  • MikeS

Last 2 shifts for spezza line zibby was on his wing

  • hq8

    somehow MM9 has a point…..thx to Zib’s PP goal.

  • hq8

yea, thought something was funny with greening tonight and turns to be true: benched for the 2nd period, with only 5:43 TOI for the game and 1:45 in the 2nd period. -2 on the night already.

    • MikeS

to be fair the second goal is 100% on karlsson, I dunno where he was on the first goal though

      • hq8

i actually have a completely different view of the 2nd goal. if you look at the replay, karlsson was tripped coming from behind the net by i think perry and there was no call made – hence the lost puck ends up on getzlaf’s stick. the refs are really shit this game.

        • MikeS

Either way there is no way you should be backhanding the puck in front of your net blindly

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

And it makes no sense. It’s Chris Neil who should be benched.

  • SensChirp

Tough to get a feel for line combinations with so many penalties.

    • yannrock

      So true!

  • yannrock

They need to get in Pesky mode in the third.

  • MikeS

I think they have controlled 5 on 5, but there has been so little that its hard to judge

  • MikeS

    finally

  • karlssens

    That greening contract looks brutal

    • hq8

you are being blasphemous, greening outperformed zibanejad at camp. lol

  • Colin

You don’t shoot, you don’t score.

  • T K

    Sens momentum is building………….

    • MikeS

they have had the momentum for the whole period, just havnt scored

  • karlssens

Puempel doing work for the b sens

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    GO SENS GOOOOO

  • MikeS

I really dont like spezza on the right wall, he is so much more effective off the left wall

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Sens have no excuse not to win this game. Too many opportunities.

  • hq8

not because of themselves, but the turris line is not happening tonight against getzlaf but i dont get why maclean is insisting the matchup

  • T K

    WTF was that?

  • SensFanInMTL

I just want to know something. What the fuck are all these bloody phuckin turnovers by EVERYONE? This is atrocious. Just unfuckinacceptable.

  • Mike

It will get better not even half way through the season yet. Tough schedule to start the season it will start to get better historically the Sens don’t always have great starts to the season

  • karlssens

    So typical of Phillips haha

  • T K

This is one game when I’m really tired of hearing “Andersen makes the save”

  • Dr.Hockey

    Sloppy

  • hq8

you put chris phillips on the ice and you blackhole any any any kind of advantage.

    • MikeS

I dont understand how he thinks phillips gives them a better chance of scoring then Corvo, Cowen or even methot

      • SensFanInMTL

The NHL is controlled by the secret groups. We’re not supposed to ever win the Cup for as long as this team is existing.

  • Ozzyhockey

Don’t worry, JAN 1st we can trade Big Sinking Rig

    • hq8

good one, can we start calling phillips BP=big poop.

  • Mike

Too bad Craig Anderson played very well, without him it would have probably been a 5 or 6 to 1 game the sens just could not get it done tonight

  • xN1Cx

I still think it was a good game. We controlled the play for large amounts of time. I will have to agree with Chirps tweet too…Zibby was approaching badass status on line 1
I have a fantasy question for everyone here… who wins this trade
    Karlsson
    Stephan
    Eller
    Schneider
    For
    Ribeiro
    Kane
    Byfuglien
    Bishop
Would love to know what everyone thinks. I can see sides to both tbh.

    • MikeS

Does the league count pim, blks, hits, pim?

    • hq8

      dont do it.

  • Mike

At least the Leafs lost tonight and 5-2 to Columbus to

  • hq8

ok so i think this is interesting. anderson’s career stats vs anaheim:
10 GP, 2W, 8L – this includes tonight’s game. going into this game, he had a 3.57GAA and 0.895SV% against anaheim. so basically our goalie shits the pants against the ducks

the only team he has a worse record against is Vancouver – 3W, 10L

  • Kielbasa

I was at the game tonight and have to say that was an absolutely pathetic effort by this team. If management is wondering why games are far from being sellouts….look at the lacklustre product you put on the ice.

I said it before and will say it again, PM needs to send a message to the entire team. Sit Karlsson and Methot for a game or two. Hold them both accountable for the continuous brain farts.

This team needs to skate. They fell back into that lazy routine and lost again. Sunday is going to be rough if they keep this up.

    • Kielbasa

And CTC /Sens management…the prepubescent stripper children with pompoms is seriously pathetic and sad. Everyone in our section laughed or yelled at them to sit down. They are pointless at a hockey game.

  • sprucesens

only saw the 3rd, but it sounds like the parade to the box continued. Time to start sending a message, you take careless penalties that isn’t a blatant bad call by the ref, then you sit on the bench.
From what i’ve seen this year, greening hasn’t showed up to play a single game yet. Neil hasn’t been hitting as much as he normally does, so we are letting other teams play their game. We can have all the skill on the top 3 lines, but if we can’t bang and grind on the 4th and make the other team think twice when they are on the ice, we will lose against physical and big teams.
I’m thinking Pmac is really against fighting, because unless there was a fight this game, we’ve only had a league low of 1 this year? Not like neil or smith to not jump into the fray, or when kassian plays, him too.
Can try to right the ship on sunday. Cheer up guys, we can’t win every game. Better to lose to teams in the west. …Although i guess that plays into wildcards now i think..?

  • Robert Cyr

Not because Anderson did not play up to par, or because we lost, but to shake up this team, and give it some hope and consistency, if I were Paul MacLean, I would start Lehner, re-insert Wiercioch in favor of either Corvo or Gryba,

Team has to regain the momentum they lost, after the Detroit win, and move on !

    GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Snoopy Senior

  • Imasensfan

Looking at the stats; the only remarkable differences were giveaways and face offs. Shots on goal and penalties were almost the same and we had one power play goal and the Ducks had none.
