Maybe it’s because last season went so poorly or maybe it’s because we spent the majority of the summer struggling our way through a full on shit storm but either way, never has there been a more entertaining 2-2-1 team in the history of the NHL.
Hyperbole you say? Well it’s my website and I can do what I want!
It’s early in the 2018/2019 season but the Ottawa Senators are already one of the league’s most pleasant surprises. Well at least for me, anyway.
Expected to be a bottom feeder from the moment the puck dropped, the Senators have actually got off to a decent start. Five games into the year and they’ve already played two games that would have been among their best performances in all of last season. But it’s about more than just the results at this point. This team looks nothing like what the experts predicted. Hell, it looks nothing like what Sens fans predicted.
In a stunning turn of events, the Ottawa Senators are actually fun to watch. Hockey, at least for the time being, is fun again.
Guy Boucher’s team will look to keep things rolling as they play host to Tyler Seguin and the Dallas Stars.
Speaking of fun to watch, the Dallas Stars look like a team that could challenge in the Western Conference this year.
They score a ton of goals, their power play is the league’s best and unlike previous seasons, they have managed to keep the goal against total under eight a game. Progress! They’re also getting meaningful contributions from a smorgasbord (that’s gotta be a SensChirp first) of ex-Sens including Jason Spezza’s behind the back passes, Marc Methot’s hip-checks and Ben Bishop’s uhh height.
On the other side of the rink, the Senators look to build on Saturday afternoon’s beatdown of the Los Angeles Kings. Guy Boucher spoke with the media yesterday and hinted that he’s considering going with the ol’ 11/7 alignment again. Wasn’t the plan but he obviously liked what he saw on Saturday.
That would mean one of Nick or Carey sits out. Paul is in either way.
Senators are on the ice for their game day skate at 10:30 AM so we’ll confirm the lineup then. A best guess for now.
