Game Day- Senators Host Crosby, Penguins

On the heels of another disappointing loss against Antoine Vermette and the Phoenix Coyotes, the Senators welcome the high flying Pittsburgh Penguins to the Canadian Tire Centre.

Things have been pretty ugly for the Senators of late but a win against the Penguins heading into the holiday break would be a huge boost to the team’s confidence and maybe ease some of the panic that has set in in this city lately.  And the good news is it looks like Paul MacLean will ice the line up that a lot of fans have been asking for lately.

Here’s how they are expected to line up

Michalek-Spezza-Zibanejad
MacArthur-Turris-Ryan
Greening-Smith-Neil
Conacher-Pageau-Condra

Cowen-Karlsson
Methot-Gryba
Phillips-Ceci

Craig Anderson gets the start in the Ottawa goal.

  • SensChirp

Off the grid today so I had to post this masterpiece from my phone. What looks like a simple 100 word game day post was actually an hour and a half long process. It will have to do for now.

    Happy Holidays everyone!

    • runningbear1974

      thank you… Happy Holidays :)

    • LeafsSux

      Merry Christmas Chirp!!

  • FistsofNeil25

Wow it’s a Christmas miracle!! Those forward combinations and defense pairings are pretty much exactly what most fans want to see! I really like the Methot-Gryba pairing. When Karlsson was injured last season we saw those two play together almost every night. It gives us a solid shutdown pairing. For anyone who’s watched Gryba play this season, he’s definitely been one of the top 6 blueliners this club has.

The only change I’d like to see is a swap of Greening and Conacher just to give the Pageau line a little size. I love seeing DJ ZBad on that top line and Michalek is really starting to look like his old self again.

I feel like a big Sens win is in order tonight. An early Christmas gift for the players and their fans.

    GO SENS GO!

  • chris

Would anyone trade spezza for stephan and del zotto?

    • Jacques

I would make that trade in a New York minute! Stepan is like getting another Turris – Good one-two punch!

      • Sensnation

Not sure I ever heard anyone say having two 2nd line Cs is better than have a 1st line C and a 2nd line C!

        • Jacques

We’d have 2 first line centers Turris and Stepan. Watch the games a little, Spezza is playing something but it isn’t hockey????

          • Josh

Spezza is our captain. We can’t just jump ship and trade him because he’s had some difficulties in adjusting to leading an NHL team.

          • Jacques

C’mon has to do with playing hockey leave me alone with adjusting To leadership…

          • Sensnation

Turris and Stepan are both poor man’s 1st line Cs at best, better suited for 2C roles right now. I get that you’re upset with Spezza, but this isn’t all on his shoulders. Sad how fast you throw him under the bus though.

          • Josh

A lot of people were calling to trade Alfie back when he first became captain and look how great a captain he turned out to be. Spezza is a great player and ya he’s been playing like shit recently but we all know he’s capable of turning it around and Sens fans should’t start ragging on him so quick

  • FistsofNeil25

So that’s an interesting rumor coming from Dreger. He seems to be hinting that a deal is on the table between the Rangers and Sens and that once the trade freeze is lifted the trade will go through.

I really like Del Zotto’s potential, but I just don’t see where he fits in on our blueline. If the Sens do in fact trade for Del Zotto, it pretty much indicates that Wiercioch’s time with the organization is done, I would think. They also wouldn’t trade for Del Zotto with the intention of making him a 7th defenseman on the team. If the Sens acquire him, he’ll be a regular in the line-up. I personally like the way our defense looks with Cowen-Karlsson, Methot-Gryba, Phillips-Ceci.

Should be interesting to see what happens once the trade freeze is lifted. I think Murray has a couple deals up his sleeve.

    • Conor_smythe

Why would any rebuilding GM get rid of wiercioch and keep Phillips?

If sens land del zotto, Phillips is a goner

      • FistsofNeil25

If we bring in Del Zotto, I wouldn’t be surprised if neither Phillips or
Wiercioch is back with the team next year. I still believe the
organization is pretty high on Borowiecki. Ceci and Karlsson are obviously
part of the puzzle long-term, and I believe they are pretty committed to
Cowen. Our defense next year could look like this:

        Cowen-Karlsson
        Methot-Ceci
        Del Zotto-Gryba
        Borowiecki

        • SenaTHOR

I hope Gryba/Methot can SLOW down Crosby. No one actually shuts him down.

          • CUP 2014-15

No kidding. I think they may be able to force him to play most of the night from the outside. Hell knows he can score from anywhere but man make him earn it. I like this pairing a lot.

      • CUP 2014-15

I think CC may have made PW redundant. Can’t have three offensive minded D unless at least one of them can actually play some defence. Just my opinion but I like smash mouth hockey and tough D.

      • SenaTHOR

If PW could move guys off the puck or be a PPG guy with a plus/plus minus we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Thats where the decision will be made. Everyone in the lineup now is willing to take a hit to make a play and most can separate the carrier from he puck.(Maybe not EK but his other skills make up for it)

    • SenaTHOR

I think you will see Ceci down soon so a year doesn’t slide on his ELC. I too see PW possibly going if Del Zotto trade comes.
      Cowen Karlsson
      Phillips Del Zotto
      Methot Gryba
      Corvo(Gone next year)
      Next year will be interesting.
Do they sign Phillips?(If yes does Ceci stay down)
Do they sign Gryba? (If so where does Boro fit in?)
I do see Gryba and Wiercioch maybe going and Del Zotto and a forward coming back.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Im liking these trade rumours, especially around Christmas, if these rumors dont motivate our players, then I am sure something will be done when the trade freeze is done. I feel a good sens game tonight and feeling good weirdly for a team that has loss 3 straight. GO sENS Go.
PS. Bobby Ryan has a huge game tonight

    • Moudy Mahfouz

and also, I know we need all the points possible, but i feel these next 3 games are going to be huge for our faith this season. tough games to end the month. I say we get 4 out of 6(I would like 6 out of 6)

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Where are these rumors?! I haven’t seen anything

    • spezzerman

Darren Dreger on TSN radio in toronto said he wouldnt be surprised if Del Zotto was on his way to Ottawa once the trade freeze lifts. Didnt say anything about players going the other way. Who knows whats behind his hunch

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

    Sigh. Go Sens..

  • Andersonfan41

I would like to see Michael Del Zotto on the Senators and I would like to
see one of Carl Hagelin or Brian Boyle included in the deal somhow.
A player that I would like to see on the Senators is Dan Girardi.
Also like to see Murray add someone who has some leadership
    qualities and has some grit.
Would like to see Murray add someone with some size to
    the forward group.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

      I love you man

      • Andersonfan41

        Thank you!
        Merry Christmas!

    • Lucretia

Would it not be easier for you to be a Ranger fan?

    • 00001111101010101010101010101

do you actually cheer FOR any of the players currently playing in Ottawa ?

  • Andersonfan41

What if Murray somehow get Derek Dorsett would everyone
    be okay with that?

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

      Why?

    • FistsofNeil25

What does Dorsett actually add? He’s a poor mans Chris Neil. We need an upgrade in the bottom six over the likes of Greening, Condra, and Conacher.

I don’t know how I feel about this Del Zotto rumor. I like his mobility and his potential but what the Sens truly need is a defenseman with a proven track record.

Karlsson, Cowen, Gryba, Wiercioch and Ceci aren’t the most experienced players. Del Zotto doesn’t change that. Sens need a legit top 4 guy with a proven track record.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

We essentially need to clone Methot

  • Jacques

Good to see Gryba and Methot together fianlly , they played superbly last year together.

    • Jacques

and last game – on the ice for all 3 goals for I think!

  • FistsofNeil25

Ohhhhh man. Have any of you had the chance to watch the Sens 12 days of Christmas video? It’s awesome. Spezza has me in stitches every time. I highly recommend checking it out.

  • Deadly

Tried something new for the Phoenix game. Watched the game while reading the paper, did not have this site on for a blow by blow, critiquing by fans with variable knowledge and opinions. Noted the obvious mistakes made by athletes trying their best under increasing pressure and stifling criticism.
    Checked in between periods.
Enjoyed the game more as it was the game I was watching as opposed to defending the fan base opinion.
Year 3 of the rebuild with an unexpected step back in the first half season.
The pre season prognosticators really set us up for a great season.
Now,after watching one episode of 24/7 I think we are still in the hunt .

  • Zachpraisetheswedes

I think/hope the trade with NY will be…

Michalek, Conacher, Greening, Wierchioch, Puempel, 2013 2nd and 2014 1st

    for

    Nash and Del Zotto

NY needs to clear some salary cap space while also bringing in new bodies

We need to get rid of bodies while spending the same amount of cash. We can’t cut down in spending because next season the cap floor will be 55million which is what were currently spending

    • KJ

7 assets for two. Not happening.

      • Deadly

More draft choices out the door. Compare this with the deal for Ryan.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

      God no.

    • Phoenix

      Second that “GOD NO”

    • FistsofNeil25

You’ve forgotten that Nash has a NTC that he already refused to waive once to come to Ottawa.

Does anyone remember what the package for Nash was that Murray put together? I’m pretty sure it included Lehner and Zibanejad. Thank god that didn’t happen. Lehner is going to be a top goalie in this league and ZBad is showing top line potential. I love the way he plays the game.

      • Sensnation

It was Zibanejad, Bishop, Foligno + for Nash and Methot. CLS wanted Lehner instead and Nash said no.

    • TookieIs100PercentRight

      Nooooooooo.
Rick Nash is SUPER overrated. How many times has he led a team to the playoffs or even playoff success? ZERO. His best days are behind him. Del Zotto I’d be interested in but that’s it. I’d sooner keep most of those guys and especially the picks.

    • Mike

Actually, i don’t mind that trade, michalek is awful this year and greening and conacher are plugs and who knows if wiercioch and puempel even pan out or not not to mention who even knows if the 2015 draft pick is even good or not

    • Sensnation

I would love to have Nash on our team, not sure he’d all of a sudden want to come here now though. Also, that 1st rnd pick is not in our hands.

      • peetypuck

        I think he means 2014 2nd and 2015 1st.

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

And then it’s an even bigger no.

          • peetypuck

If Nash waived his NTC to come to Ottawa it would be difficult to turn down a trade for him. Just imagine the two top lines. I just find it hard to believe that Sather would trade him.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Totally off topic but what the heck happened to snoopy senior

    • PraiseAlfie11

Good question…he was a fixture around here. Hope he’s ok.

  • Phoenix

If Murray does land Del Zotto it will be because he believes that Del Zotto can help and turn his career around. Just like when he pulled the trigger for Turris.

  • FistsofNeil25

Yeah it would be the same type of deal. Del Zotto has the potential
to be a really good puck mover. A lot of people would think there isn’t
much of a difference between Wiercioch and Del Zotto, but Del Zotto is a
much more mobile player. He’s a very gifted skater with a good amount
of offensive skill but he lacks in the defensive end. He’s still young
though with a lot of room to improve. He’s only 23 years old.

I’m still on the fence about dealing for him. I think right now trading for
MDZ doesn’t address our immediate needs, but long term it could be a
very good move depending on what we send to NY. Having Karlsson, Ceci,
and Del Zotto as our puck movers for the future could be a pretty good
    look.

    • Sensnation

Great points. I would agree with you on Del Zotto, and actually think Wiercioch’s D may be better right now. I wouldn’t mind having him on the team. Along with Cowen, Methot, Phillips/Gryba, that would make a pretty nice top 7D. I guess it all depends on the price to get him. Wouldn’t pay a key piece.

    • peetypuck

Why exactly is Sather trying so hard to trade Del Zotto?

  • gds

    and a heritage classic jersey

  • luckan20

It will be good game. If we stay out of the box, then there is a good chance to steal a point. If we keep taking those minors, Crosby and Kunitz will have a field day.

    • PraiseAlfie11

Much better post than Saturday’s posts.

I see you’re a regular on the official sens board – have you seen rcyr2005 aka snoopy senior aka rocking robert around?

      • luckan20

I avoided myself in Serns chirp mainly due to the tone of certain posters. I like intelligent topics discussed along with good reasoning for criticism. It is easy for some one to hide behind computers and write anything, but for once they should analyze the reason for any particular posts. My post was all about our teams weakness.

Any how, I haven’t seen Robert for a while and hope all is well at his end. I am sure that the Ottawa official Sens board misses him.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I’m actually starting to genuinely wonder if he is Ok… I hope all is well

        • luckan20

Me to. Hope all is well.

  • gds

if u had the power would you trade spezza and cowen for callahan and del zotto?

    • luckan20

Oh no!,,,,Cowen will be fine. Callahan doesn’t replace Spezza, but he is sure a good leader. Rangers will not trade him. He is a hard working guy and comes to play, but not an offensive minded player.

    • sprucesens

Is this a hint gds? Any word on the nyr trade rumours?

  • SensFanInMTL

Is anyone else hearing about Byfuglien wanting out of Winnipeg and Ottawa being of one them on his list?

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I’ll take Byfuglien if Evander Kane is included.

      • SensFanInMTL

I was thinking at work all day about getting those 2 and the package going the other way being Michalek, Cowen, Conacher & 2nd. Don’t think it’d be enough though.

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I would do that in an absolute heart beat, so definitely not enough ahhaha.

        • CUP 2014-15

Unfortunately just enough for Kane, maybe.

  • SensFanInMTL

    Methot cares.

  • FistsofNeil25

That Methot hipcheck on Crosby was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Worth saying it a few times!

      • FistsofNeil25

haha yeah not sure what happened there.

        • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Looks like he knocked Crosby out too!

          Methot is a beast.

  • Millennium

Ceci nails a ref, Sens score. Coincidence?

    • T K

That ref will have Ceci’s number for the rest of his career…

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

OMG the Sens are PISSED…take out two players and a ref so far!

  • FistsofNeil25

    Ceci can rip it!

  • Andersonfan41

If the Senators can hold on and win could this game
get the Senators in the right direction and will the break
    help out?

  • T K

    Angry Sens = Winning Sens

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I still can’t believe how hard the ref went down.

    • T K

Got nailed right in the spine. Must hurt like a bitch. No padding.

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Oh no doubt…I thought he was unconscious

        • T K

The look on his face said it all

          • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Every time Ceci shoots I expect people to duck now!

            He looks HOT tonight

          • Jacques

Ceci can really fire the puck!

  • T K

Crosby went off for a shit. Hopefully he’s got the flu too

  • FistsofNeil25

That was the most Jason Spezza shift ever. Turnovers galore.

    • Jacques

      Brutal.

  • FistsofNeil25

    Great penalty kill right there.

  • T K

Never thought that I’d EVER say this about an ex-Least: I’m so glad that MacArthur is a Senator!

    • T K

Proof that Carlyle is an idiot

  • sben

    Cowen is the new phillips.

  • Jacques

Gryba and Methot lots to like there! They both rocked Crosby in that first period!

  • Inquiring Mind

Ceci still in the lineup – has he made the team ?

    • FistsofNeil25

He has to continue to play well to stay up. Don’t think he’s cemented his spot on the team. He has to stay consistent in order to force them to keep him here. It sure looks promising for him though. He’s playing great.

  • SensFanInMTL

Gotta hand it over to the boys. They’re really playing well. Let’s hope this remains persistent.

  • luckan20

Folks, Phillips is damn slow. Ottawa has to be careful if any contract offer towards him. Honestly, if we sit Phillips a game, we will see little better mobility in the back end.

Spezza has to watch his passes. Damn! he is coughing the pucks in our own zone. The pressure of being a captain is taking a toll on him and hope he will come out of it sooner than later.

    • SensFanInMTL

I love Spezza. But he’s always not been too careful with his passes. That’s just regular Jay.

      • luckan20

True. He has lowered his fancy moves a lot.

  • luckan20

With a depleted team of Penguins, we should dominate. The dominate means have puck possession and dictate the play. We were running around in our own zone. No finish by our guys so far.

    • FistsofNeil25

We shouldn’t count out this Shittsburgh team. They’re on a 7 game win streak regardless of the injuries. Hopefully that ends tonight.

    • CUP 2014-15

Their on a 7 gm win streak with these injuries. Don’t expect anyone to dominate SID

  • luckan20

stupid penalty to take by Neil

  • T K

    Andy!

  • FistsofNeil25

Yikes. Time to take a seat Big Rig. That was bruuuuutal.

  • sben

    big rig sucks

  • FistsofNeil25

    Bobby!

  • T K

    And there you go!

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

This team pisses me off so much.

How the hell do we play so well tonight, Andy included, but shit the bed 90% of the time.(although I guess the last few games we actually outplayed but just found ways to lose)

  • FistsofNeil25

The Rangers are outshooting the Leafs 31-15 after two periods. Bernier must be standing on his head. Man how is that shit team ahead of us in the standings. They’re lucky they got off to such a strong start because since November 1st they’ve been terrible.

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I am facing a huge leaf fan from work in our fantasy pool…he must be pissed and happy all at the same time(I LOVE IT!)

    • sben

If the leafs hadn’t traded for Bernier they would be below us in the standings. In 2-3 years from now the leafs will suck. Too many bad contracts:
gunnarsson, liles, Clarkson (will be bought out at least 2 years before the end of his contract). Nonis is an awful GM. When a team has enough profit for a full salary cap they never succeed because they make bad contracts alot. In a way we should be thankful for melnyk.

  • luckan20

We need to build from this lead.

  • SensFanInMTL

Finally, Crosby turns it over. So he is human after all.

  • T K

Man, this is utterly bizarre play

  • karlssens

    Spezza is soooo bad defensively

  • Millennium

Man Spezza is just rotten tonight. Hard to watch from captain giggles.

  • Mitchell

I hate! This new Spezza I rather him just be who we drafted. If we wanted a two way forwarded we would of drafted one. Spezza drafted for his offensive ability like most number 1 centers

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I really wonder if you are onto the issue here with him….Look what happened to Ovie when he was told to play a more complete game. People thought he was done. Now he is allowed to play and he is on pace for what 73 goals?!?!

      • Millennium

There’s a strong argument for not making your snipers and elite stars team captain. It has the potential to become a distraction, or to change their game as they attempt to live up to expectations. Some guys just aren’t meant to be captain, and that’s no flaw. Maybe Spezza is one of them

      • Mitchell

I actually mentioned this exact statement in a previous post. The same can beside for dany heatley. Some player are told my coaches to change styles. Sometime themselves. To prove something. I suppose but Spezza to me is that guy you can dance circles. Not shut down

  • FistsofNeil25

Another solid game by Gryba so far tonight. He needs to be a regular in this line up. Him and Methot are great together.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

    WHAT A LAST MINUTE!

    • FistsofNeil25

That was a pretty fun shift lol

      • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

That original ditch from Karlsson that went past someone and then to Ryan and Ryan bobbled it like WTF how the hell did the puck land on my stick….bah shit I am in the corner.

Then Turris says Yo Karlsson…you think you can pass well…check this out!

  • T K

Wish that they played with this much enthusiasm, energy and focus against the shit teams. Andy is in the ZONE!

  • Deadly

Leafs down by 1,Wings by 3. I might become a regular viewer of 24/7.

  • Jacques

    They better stop taking penalties!

  • FistsofNeil25

I’m watching the Wild/Flyers game on TSN2 during the Sens intermission. Milbury and Jones just said that according to team USA representatives, Bobby Ryan is on the bubble to make their Olympic team. How could he not be a lock for that roster. Other than Patrick Kane, Ryan is the second highest scoring american born player this season.

    • Millennium

Milbury is an ass-clown who knows nothing about hockey

      • FistsofNeil25

Agreed. Him, Healy and Kypreos are the worst.

        • SensFanInMTL

Agreed I hate those 3 tards. Healy though has toned down slightly on the Ottawa bashing but he’s still a chode.

      • CUP 2014-15

Hell he lives in Ottawa, I am sure he knows somebody that knows somebody at immigration. Let’s add another chapter to the Bobby Ryan story.

      • SENSsmile

I miss the good old Milbury days as Isles GM. He was very generous to our Sens.

  • luckan20

In the last 2 shifts, we had 2 good scoring chances. We need to curtail on those stupid minors taken.

  • lbernier

Well if the Sens are to turn things around, they wont let the Meltdown happen in the 3rd now! They need to press hard now and extend the lead. I hope they do it but I have to be honest that I wont be surprised if the famous meltdown happens again we saw signs of it at the end of the 2nd already :(

    • CUP 2014-15

Man I swear to shit I just said that we need an aggressive two man fore check here in the third.

  • T K

    Karlsson was due for one

  • LeafsSux

    Did I just see that?!!!!!!!

  • Millennium

I can’t even handle Karlsson when he does what he does

  • FistsofNeil25

Karlsson dangles and then goes bottle service! That was honestly too much. What a beauty!

  • my2sens

    1. Methot as captain
    2. Karlsson as King of Canada

    Go Sens Go

  • T K

Why doesn’t Pingu get called for interference or hooking?

  • luckan20

Leafs are freaking lucky team. They tied the game.

    • my2sens

They will have another shootout goal reviewed and allowed as well… sheesh!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Smithy’s playing like a boss man I’m loving this guy.

    • my2sens

He should quiet some haters tonight.

      • FistsofNeil25

Does Smith even have haters? He’s been pretty good this year I’d say, One of their more consistent depth players.

        • my2sens

There are a lot of chirpers who call for him to be traded… I have always asked why?

          • CUP 2014-15

Because there are Waco’s that think you can win with 20 offensive minded players.

          • Millennium

You’ll find the list of guys not being suggested in a trade this season is much shorter.

          • MikeS

Turris, Zibinajad, Karlsson and ……. anyone know anyone else?

  • my2sens

Am I even watching the right team!?!?!??!?!?!

    • MikeS

This team shows up vs good teams and not vs bad teams. The problem is they dont win every game vs the good teams and 0 vs the bad teams

      • sben

        did you just copycat?

before you posted the previous post steve lloyd posted:

Look great against the Blues and Penguins. Mediocre to awful vs the Panthers and Devils. Yup. This team makes sense. #Sens

        coincidence? I think not…

        • MikeS

Nah, its something I’ve been noticing all year. They had great games vs Boston, Wings(*2), Stl, and Pens. Aweful vs the bottom feeders. Even their play vs some of the better western teams has been strong, just havent got the results

  • T K

    Merry Christmas

  • my2sens

    Under review?

    Gryba is the key

Hey, just logged on to say that Conacher making that ‘Monkey off my back’ gesture was the best thing I’ve seen in a while. Fucking ‘Eh boys.

Oh, and Karlsson is just filthy. Glad to see he’s back at 100%.

  • CUP 2014-15

This team is much tougher to play against with a shut down D. Playing with Karl isn’t the best for MM maybe.Go Gryba

    • Jacques

3 and 62 are great together.

  • my2sens

    Seriously!? Where is the dive!??!?!?

AWESOME game – beauty goals, beauty PK and PP…. Beauty goaltending!!

  • FistsofNeil25

A well deserved shutout for Andy. He looked confident and focused tonight like the Andy we grew to love! Hopefully this game was a big confidence booster for him.

    Methot+Gryba = winnng combination

    Karlsson was king

MacArthur-Turris-Ryan up to their old tricks

  • T K

    Angry Sens = Winning Sens

  • Jacques

So happy we didn’t get Nash and focused on a real Power Forward! Get the pen out Bobby at the end of the year and you can play with 65 for the next 7-8 years!

    • Terry

I would open my cheque book!!

    • jasonontheoldsenschirp

He won’t resign with us, but yah, he’s playing great.

      • s3nsfan

        And you know this how?

With the success he’s had with Turris already I thikn him signing here next summer is a non issue

        • runningbear1974

If he’s having fun and he’s happy… Then he’ll probably want to stay… Keep him with Turris, you can tell they like each other…

      • runningbear1974

Is this tookie? negative nancy on such a beauty day…

  • One Gun Mitty

King Karl played just 23 minutes tonight – this is a GOOD thing.

  • T K

I think that I’ll leave this one on the PVR for a while…

  • luckan20

I am truly happy for Anderson. A stand up fellow.

  • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Enjoyed that game by far the most of the season so far.

I really hope that is a turning point, huge win against one of the league’s perennial top teams…. Three days off, time with the family.. Good recipe

  • Sensturion

Obviously (Karlsson) someone gave MacArthur and Smith some lit mups for Christmas.

  • SENSsmile

Wonderful… of course, it had to be the game that I missed completely! Damn it, if that’s what it takes for the Sens to win, I’ll sacrifice myself for a month. In the meantime, Merry Christmas everyone!

    • Sensturion

A month? How about the rest of the season? :P

      • SENSsmile

LOL… sure, whatever it takes… but then I’m off the hook if they start losing again.

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

I think Cody Ceci has played his last game in Binghamton.

I see no reason why he shouldn’t stay up here. He’s held his own in all the game’s he’s played, and looks even better than some of the defencemen on the team. Looks like he’s ready to me!

    • Sensturion

I’d say it depends on these Del Zotto rumours. If they come to fruition, Ceci might have to go back down, unless a defenseman is part of the deal. Otherwise, there are just way too many bodies on the blueline.

      • Sensnation

I honestly don’t think Del Zotto would displace Ceci at this point. He is just so consistent and sure of himself out there, and fits in the system like a glove! I like Wiercioch, but his salary would def be out the door in said trade.

        Cowen-Karlsson
        Methot – Del Zotto
        Phillips- Ceci
        Gryba

  • SenaTHOR

Heard from a not so reliable source that Gryba is going to the Rangers.

    • sprucesens

Would really prefer it to be PW. Even if we had to add a greening or condra

    • Jacques

      We’re getting screwed then!

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

I really hope this isn’t true…. Gryba has turned into “that guy”… You know the one that I have no idea why he is a healthy scratch.

Unless there is something behind the scenes we don’t know…. I just can’t figure out why he doesn’t play game in and game out

    • FistsofNeil25

I really hope Gryba isn’t part of that deal. He’s playing so well lately and him and Methot look like a solid shut down pairing. Just look at how well they played the Crosby line last night. They physically dominated them.

Also, he’s a right hand shot which is something we need. The only right shooting dmen we have are Gryba, Ceci, Karlsson, and Corvo, and I’d take Gryba’s size and physicality over Corvo any day. Trading Gryba in a deal for Del Zotto would leave us with too many puck movers that aren’t that strong in their own end.

      • CUP 2014-15

Bang on Fists, I have taken heat on here over the last month due to bitching about why the hell Gryba is sitting and that this organization should waive or trade him because they were ruining his career as young players need to play. If we add another puck moving D, were going to be playing in the SEL, we will be so f#@king soft. I think PW is the guy going the other way and CC will go back to Bingo, Corvo will remain as the swingman and the team still has three options left on CC for call ups. I just hope they leave Gryba and MM together, they make us a tougher team to play against.

        • runningbear1974

I love Gryba’s game… He’s tough with poise under pressure… Great pairing with Methot… Please keep them together…

  • T K

Had Sens beat Florida, NJ and Phoenix, they would now be tied for the last playoff spot. We all know that they have it in them.

    Play hard, good things happen.

  • KJ

Finally, we all some positive Sens news to discuss. Let’s hope they bottle that up and reuse the effort many times in the next half of the season.

    Merry Christmas All!

  • Kielbasa

That was a VERY nice way to finish before the Christmas holidays. That is the type of energy and heart this team needs to play with for the rest of the season.
And Crosby, grow the %$#& up. Trying to call Methot’s hip check as low is like trying to call your dive a trip. For someone with that much talent, he has a lot of growing up to do. Whining shouldn’t be a part of his game at this point in his career.

  • http://www.Merchaholic.ca Merchaholic

14 seconds in. Crosby: I was just trying to split the D for a scoring chance! *Sniff Sniff” Marc: “Yup, That’s what you get”. http://video.penguins.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=520132

    • CUP 2014-15

This is why you can’t dress all these offensive D men. Gryba and MM take away the middle of the ice, add Cowen and Philly to that and Andy,& Robin will be able to see the rubber. It also allows us to use 4 D that can work the PK, No more EK or Corvo on the PK.

    • s3nsfan

love how the Pens announcers deemed a clean open ice hip check as a dirty hit. And on the replay slowed down they’re like yep, that is for sure a dirty hit. LMAO

  • runningbear1974

Great hit by Methot… I hate pittsburgh more than toronto… For years, Crosby has been diving getting good referee calls… Crosby feels entitled to take cheap shots against us, it feels like he has no respect at all… He elbowed Foligno in the head, did a cheap hit on Alfie…. And, he gets away with his cheap shots… So, he’ll keep doing it… Time to change the table around… You play Ottawa we make you hurt… Your fault Crosby…

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

He is honestly my most hated player in the league… Such a whiny bitch

  • runningbear1974

Super happy for Conacher as well… I feel he does a lot of the intangibles, but doesn’t get credit for it… A bunch of times i’ve seen goals that were created by his effort… Anyway, good for him…

  • s3nsfan

Can’t say anything that hasn’t been said on here already. I love how some people are saying the sens shoudn’t be too excited the Pens started their christmas holidays early etc etc. The sens BEAT the penguins, not because they didn’t show up but because the sens were the better team. Yeah and I’m sure the Pens wanted to mail it in when they’d won 7 in a row.

This sens team has shown they have what it takes to compete with and beat the best teams in this league. Now if they could do that with the teams they’re supposed to beat, the playoffs should be attainable. Hopefully as has been said a few times this season this is a turning point game. Maybe after winning with such a dominant performance having three days off and then playing another elite team this might just be what the sens need to finally put a couple wins together.

  • runningbear1974

The big difference in my mind is our defensive pairings…

Cowen has been playing better with Karlsson lately… If they can develop some chemistry… This could be best pairing ever… This frees up Methot to make a line out of nothing, i mean with Gryba (i really like this guy, he has game)… And, where did Ceci come from… He’s good enough to make up for Phillips’ weak points…
We now have 3 fairly solid defensive pairings, rather than barely 1…

    Cowen-Karlsson
    Methot-Gryba
    Phillips-Ceci

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Nailed it…. I really can not see Ceci going down with how well he is playing

      • runningbear1974

I believe Luke Richardson also made a similar comment…

        • son of a Diefenbaker

          Indeed ? Praise from Caesar!

    • Richard Gough

I really feel they should try playing Karlsson on the wing with Spezza just too see how it works out . Who know we may have a solid 1st line pairing
Plus it will make room for Del-Zotto

      • PraiseAlfie11

And put anderson as a d man so lehner takes over #1 goalie spot. Maclean used to be a heck of a player, so he should play top line.

The idea of KK65 being a forward has been panned by every analyst and KK65 himself.

        • Richard Gough

Just saying man he scores goals better then he can defend and that’s a fact I wish he would consider the thought

          • runningbear1974

It does feel if he played the wing he could score 50 goals easy… Not sure if that’s accurate or not but it does feel that way…

          • Richard Gough

I would be happy with 20-30 goals

          • runningbear1974

he can get 20-30 goals playing defense…

    • Lucretia

Going forward I would like to see PW46 as the 7th D, subbing in for Gryba. This will give them both time to develop their game. Fans have been hard on Gryba and I don’t know why, he has good #’s and he’s scary, we need scary more than we need a underachieving D-man from NY…let MDZ figure out his game somewhere else.

      • runningbear1974

I was hoping Wiercioch could come and give Phillips a bit of a break…
Corvo could substitute for Gryba… One young, one old, one lefty, one righty…

    • son of a Diefenbaker

Agree – I like these pairings too.

      Cowen will come around.
He missed most of last season and training camp (stupid contract crap)
His type of injury/surgery usually takes a year or more to recover from.

Yes – I know that you could say the same thing about the Karlsson injury but
only King Karl has some sort of super power.

      • runningbear1974

The one thing i really want Cowen to become a master at is, If someone comes towards the net, smash him… Let everyone know they get smashed over here…

  • Luc Wolfe

Anyone happy about the outdoor game in 2017 vs the Habs?

    • Tcharger – Ryan-For-51

Meh… I don’t really understand the appeal of these games.

      • Sensturion

The difference is, this one actually means something. 2017 is the NHL’s 100th anniversary. Ottawa (Original, obviously) and Montreal were the first teams to form the NHL. Secondly, 2017 is Canada’s 150th birthday. I’m pumped for this, if it happens of course.

      • Luc Wolfe

I’m just happy because it’s in Ottawa, that’s all :)
