Game Day- Florida Swing Continues in Sunrise

That ugly winning streak was finally snapped last night in Tampa Bay. And now the Ottawa Senators look to start a different kind of streak.

Just 24 hours after a shootout win over the Lightning, the Senators travel to Sunrise to take on the Florida Panthers. The playoffs are beyond a pipe dream at this point but based on the reaction of the players last night, you can tell they still have some fight left in them and want to go on a bit of a run to end the season.

With 11 games left, the Senators probably need to win…well all of them.

Patrick Wiercioch will draw in on defence. Chris Phillips left last night’s game and was labelled doubtful by Head Coach Paul MacLean. The plan was to get Wiercioch into one of these games either way to this just makes the decision easier for MacLean. Mika Zibanejad will miss tonight’s game with an upper body injury. Matt Kassian takes his spot. Bobby Ryan misses a second straight game due to injury. No morning skate for the Senators today so we’ll have to wait until game time to see how they’ll line up.

Michalek-Spezza-Hemsky
MacArthur-Turris-Stone

And then some combination of Greening, Smith, Neil, Hoffman, Condra and Kassian. Will be interesting to see what MacLean does with the bottom six. I suspect we’ll see him roll three lines but that can be tough in a back to back.  Greening can play centre in a pinch, as  can Condra.

Methot-Karlsson
Cowen-Gryba
Wiercioch-Ceci

Robin Lehner makes another start in the Ottawa goal with Craig Anderson dressed as his back up. The puck shall drop at 7:38 PM

  • CUP 2014-15

Winning streak ? I guess we’re all human chirp. Going to be interesting. GO SENS GO

  • Jer6

I really like the sound of a young and dynamic defensive pairing such as Wiercioch-Ceci… Hopefully they can give mac some success.

  • Brutus5247

Glad to see Wiercioch in, mostly because Phillips is having a rest.I like Wiercioch and Ceci together. Better chance for offence and Gryba /Cowen can be shutdowners. Hope the hell we stay out of the box.

    • CUP 2014-15

No kidding, I don’t know what the team record is for most minors in one season but we have to be close.

  • Hussain Awan

Hello! I’m back, glad to see everythings still continuing as normal here!

  • xiorcal

Sportsnet saying that Turris is no.1 center in front of Spezza. They are crazy. We all know Smith is the number one guy.

  • Lorenzo72

    Wiercioch-Ceci. Best pairing.

    • CUP 2014-15

Going to be tough for PW. Has not played in forever and game pace is so different then practice. On the plus side, his wheels should help along with the fact they are playing FLA. I would not be surprised to see him flip spots with Cowen, he looked good with EG before being sentenced to the rafters.

  • Brutus5247

    Keys to winning.
    Defence make first pass.
    Forwards actually control the pass
Forwards make a pass without a turnover.
There are 2 D back when we do turn it over.
    Forwards actually backcheck.
Lehner stops more than 92% of the shots
We have less than 4 penalties.

  • CUP 2014-15

I am going with Hoffman, Smith and Condra as the third line. D pairings will be
    MM Karl
    JC CC
    PW EG

    • sprucesens

      with a 4th of kassian-greening-neil?

      • CUP 2014-15

With Kass grabbing his 3 minutes I would look for all 3 centers to get extra time between Greening and Neil.

        • sprucesens

probably just double shifting smith knowing maclean. But man, outside of hoffman, there is no way to build a good 3rd line with those guys…. need ryan back so stone can drop down, and zib as 3c… Those 6 possibly make up one of the worst bottom 6′s around…

          • CUP 2014-15

oh man are you right not much to choose from

  • karlssens

Hm. Florida has permission to spend to the cap, anddddd we who average 10, 000 more people a game can’t? Okay Eugene.

  • sprucesens

jeezuz, thats why we HAVE to keep hoffman

    • Mat

Hoffman should be Michalek’s replacement. Whatever $$ we free up with Michalek should be used to get a consistent top 6 winger.

      • sprucesens

i think the money will go to hemsky. Its just a matter if we spend more than that to get another player like that. a 5 mill + player like cammy, or even more, vanek. Not gonna happen, but we can dream. Maybe murray will be allowed to spend more since the “greenlight” to spend for a cup. Maybe they just waited this year out to make the decisions for next year…

        • FistsofNeil25

If he’s not given the green light to spend then he should finish the rebuild and trade Spezza, Anderson, Neil etc We’ll never contend with a budget team so we may as well cash out on some of our vets

          • sprucesens

            yeah, its sad but true.

  • xiorcal

Kassian as more self restrain than a lot of guys in this team

    • Jacques

      More than Neil and Smith

  • Jacques

How many guys have the skill set and speed on our roster to do what Hoffman just did. I thought it was Karlsson!

  • karlssens

    Please keep Hoffman

    • Jacques

He’ll be an RFA they’ll keep him!

      • karlssens

I don’t want them to trade him

        • Jacques

He’s valuable, speed like that, can play wing and center.Plus, he works his ass off!

  • FistsofNeil25

Hoffman and Stone looking good so far tonight!

  • Jacques

    Stone unlucky there!

    • FistsofNeil25

      Lookin’ good though!

      • Jacques

Yes sir, and people bitch about our Bingo guys. There are easily another 4-5 really good players who should be in our lineup down there

  • xiorcal

Crazy amount of empty seats in there

  • Mat

Stone is a beast tonight. He gets 2..

  • Jacques

    Nice play Gryba!

  • FistsofNeil25

Lehner honestly never knows where the puck is after he makes a save. It’s scary.

  • Mat

What a save. No way thats a goal. Not even reviewable…

  • karlssens

Lehner never knows where the puck is haha

  • Jacques

That was brutal, should’ve been a goal. This league is backwards! Haha but we’ll take it!

  • Zelle

Sens got lucky. Hope they don’t let it go to waste. Go Sens!!

  • karlssens

    Wow spezza…

  • Mat

So far, Philips-less = breath of fresh air..

    • FistsofNeil25

Enjoy it while it lasts…2 more years :(

  • Floridasensfan

Not sure if the picture shows

    • Zelle

NM! I see the pic. Nice you must be right at the glass?

  • FistsofNeil25

Spezza and Hemsky need a trigger man. Hoffman? Hoff has looked a lot better than Milo that’s for sure.

    • CUP 2014-15

      Pump, Pump, Pumple

      • FistsofNeil25

        Puempel? Don’t rush him.

        • CUP 2014-15

Agreed. just cant wait to see him at this level. He’s just the perfect trigger man

  • karlssens

I’d be willing to take a flyer on Camallerri. Guys a proven top 6 and still has a few years left. Can see the sens chasing him.

    • sprucesens

yeah, i think he’s a prime target. Always a hard worker, won’t be TOO expensive as a player ( not 7 mill plus) and murray has liked him for a long time, similar to hemsky and ryan. I think if he’s allowed, he’ll try to get them all

  • FistsofNeil25

    Stupid Luongo

    • Zelle

I know he should get out of the way from time to time…

  • luckan20

    LU is on the zone.

  • FistsofNeil25

Gustav Nyquist with another goal tonight. That guy is on fire. Shows how important it is to develop players properly instead of rushing them into the NHL.

    • sprucesens

not saying you are wrong, but there is no way to say he wouldn’t have been good had he have come in younger either. He might just be a good player…

  • Cicero

Very good first period for our Sens. Another solid start for Lehner so far. Consistent effort both in the OZ puck possession and DZ coverage and discipline (no stupid penalities).

The thing the jumps out to me is there seems to be more and better communication in the DZ. Everyone is working harder to help patch-up the defensive problems, one shift at a time.

    • Zelle

Good post. Looks like they are taking the defensive issues seriously and it’s paying off. An unfortunate miss for Stone and a lucky quick whistle and the game is tied at 0 but it could be tied at 1. Either way good first period.

  • Zelle

Question to those who watch BSens games: is that spinning fast pass move that Hoffman makes something he used successfully in Bingo? It always seems to lead to turnovers but it could be that players don’t know about it in comparison to Bingo guys who knew it was coming.

  • FistsofNeil25

Are we really going to have to spend the next three seasons wondering why Greening is still on this team?

  • Zelle

Fail deke on Gryba that was a good stop

  • xiorcal

At one point a puck is going to find the back of the net behind Luongo.

  • xiorcal

Not sure what they are reviewing but if the stand on the ice stay its a good goal

  • Cicero

    GREAT shift PW46!

    • Zelle

Not sure who was commenting about Sens never putting the puck in the air to clear but Wier does it that way and it’s worked great tonight.

  • Cicero

Florida-style FOX announcer on Lehner’s save: “It’s like trying to catch a gecko with that glove.” lol

  • FistsofNeil25

I’m really liking Hoffman and Stone.

  • FistsofNeil25

4-1 for St Louis over Toronto. The Blues are outshooting them 36-14 after two. I honestly love the Leafs. No matter how bad I feel about the Sens sometimes, the Leafs always find a way to make me feel better :)

    • sprucesens

not a fan of this sentence.. “I honestly love the Leafs.” mind your manners sir. but i get the point.

      • Cicero

        He mean marrajawanna

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Are you guys paying close attention to Kyle Turris? This guys is a living highlight reel. Watch the way he passes the puck by putting it through his legs and kicking it. This guy is skilled holy

    • H POTTER

      Yeah that was sick !!

    • Zelle

      But he’s not a PPG player so…

      • SensChirp

It’s ok to have two good centres.

        • sprucesens

          smith and smith?

          • Zelle

Woah he said two “good” centres, not two amazing ones.

        • Zelle

I know, I’m just playing around. My humor doesn’t translate well over the internet I don’t think… or it’s just not good.

          • xiorcal

lol. Hard to push intonation on a forum

          • Zelle

So true. You’d think I would learn, and yet… lol

    • FistsofNeil25

I couldn’t tell if he did that on purpose or not. It happened so quickly I thought maybe I was just seeing things lol. That was so slick.

    • sprucesens

i saw that. very nice. and also. HOFFMAN. everytime the guy touches the puck, he rushes to the other and creates a scoring chance. If someone trades for him, it’ll be like turris in reverse! KEEP HIM

  • CUP 2014-15

Man, the blue team loosing again and will wake up tomorrow out of the play-offs. Amazing how that can bring so much joy.

  • H POTTER

Is this really the Sens playing?? My oh my. They are smoking hot tonight! Wow…the puck has to find its way in the net..luongo has been lights out so far…

  • Cicero

Let’s hope Sens get 2nd and 3rd stars when all’s said and done.

    • CUP 2014-15

      lol

      • xiorcal

1st and 3rd (1st for the goal scorer 3rd for lenher in the shootout)

  • FistsofNeil25

    FINALLY! STONE!

  • Zelle

    Stoner! Very nice!

  • karlssens

    Atta boy!!

  • sprucesens

nice play, but man, Lu still just about stopped it..

    • xiorcal

      Crazy right?

  • Zelle

    Nice save by Lehner!

  • H POTTER

All year been wondering why the Sens were not able to simply flick the puck up in the air when no clean breakout in front of them..they’re doing a pretty good job and it’s so simple

  • FistsofNeil25

Soooo since when did the Sens learn how to play hockey?

    • CUP 2014-15

      No more pressure,

  • FistsofNeil25

Is it just me or does Stone now skate better than Ryan? Is that possible?

    • sprucesens

an injured ryan maybe. but ryan throws more hits

  • Cicero

Both teams are playing their hearts out and mine is making weird noises.

  • FistsofNeil25

Holy…Gustav Nyquist with another his second goal against Columbus tonight. Where did this guy come from? He’s the hottest player in the league right now.

    • sprucesens

he’s been good for a couple now

  • karlssens

This team would look awefully good with stone, Hoffman, Hemsky, Cammy on the team next year full time… I’m looking forward to next year already haha.

    • sprucesens

i would love that, but lets not jump the gun and get excited about that. i guess at least 2/3rds of it is promising outcome. but technically, none are signed for next year

      • karlssens

Here’s our sales pitch: Erik karlsson.

        Deal signed.

        • sprucesens

lol, if only it were that easy.

        • sprucesens

if you’ve seen elf, you reminded me of it. “here’s our idea, Miles Finch! we call him to come in and give us ideas”

          • xiorcal

            Elf

          • sprucesens

yeah, i edited right after i posted! thanks though

          • xiorcal

I guess we just see the edited post if we do a refresh.

  • PraiseAlfie11

My wish is simple…leapfrog as many teams as possible to get ANA a lesser pick.

  • Zelle

Gryba – Cowen was bad at the start of the season but they are looking pretty good this game.

    • xiorcal

      They played well yesterday also

      • Zelle

Agreed. I guess last night I was more focused on Lehner and the offense. Watching for Wier tonight and noticing the defensemen more.

  • H POTTER

They’d better call that hooking! Or else……smh

  • H POTTER

Since EK opened up on that interview he seems relieved and now free to play…he seems better

  • H POTTER

    Ata boy Weir!!!!!!!
    Good for him

  • Andrews theory

    PW

    Bam!

  • Zelle

Wier with a snipe! Woooo Go Sens!!

  • xiorcal

pw making up for the bad play he just made

    • Andrews theory

Ya that’s kinda the deal with Pw. There is a lot of good to go along with the bad

      • FistsofNeil25

More good than the guy he replaced in the line-up tonight.

        • Andrews theory

          No question

Phillips does however own a brewery so there’s that

  • FistsofNeil25

    Wiercioch > Phillips.

  • Cicero

    Flithy goal lololol

  • sprucesens

what has happened with the refs? is time backwards, down up, and my favorite team toronto? something is screwed up to allow the refs to be erring in our favor for once

    • Cicero

Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real?

      • sprucesens

        i took the other pill

  • H POTTER

I wish players would get punished way more after Lehner makes the initial stop ! This is just getting ridiculous..the forwards aren’t afraid guy nothing is going to happen !! With all those big body def we have I don’t get how they’re not more physical

  • Andrews theory

News flash… That guy sitting in the high slot calling for the puck, you might want to grab him

  • xiorcal

    well that suck

  • H POTTER

    Bad play AGAIN

  • Zelle

    Sonofa….

  • H POTTER

    OK boys keep it up

  • FistsofNeil25

Would be nice to see a forward cover for a pinching D for once.

    • H POTTER

I see what you’re saying but that is not a play that the D has the puck and goes in deep! He did a bad decision and pinched. You can’t react that quick and go cover his mistake

      • FistsofNeil25

Greening was still high enough in the zone that he could have hung back a bit.

        • H POTTER

Did you really say Greening ? He tried that in the first period and the forward just blew by pass him effortlessly

          • FistsofNeil25

I know lol obviously it was a bad pinch by Ceci. I just hate the GSN line so I would rather blame them haha

          • H POTTER

            Lololol

  • Zelle

The guys need to regroup. Hopefully some talking between periods.

    • H POTTER

Hoping they don’t get scored on b4 the period with the penalty

      • Zelle

Was close. Another selfish penalty from the Sens though. The guy was covered no need to hold the stick like that.

        • H POTTER

          Exactly

  • luckan20

Potvin is terrible to listen. Two bad goals. Lehner should have stopped the 2nd one.

    • xiorcal

hard to blame the goalie on a 2 on 1. Are they not always saying cover the pass and let the goalie handle the shooter?

    • FistsofNeil25

Only 10 more games of that clown.

  • Roar…

So Florida makes it 2-1. P-Mac decides, as he almost always does, to throw out the GSN line. They immediately get scored on. You’ll notice Colin “No Hockey Sense” Greening, charging in immediately after Ceci pinches instead of backing him up, causing the 2 on 1 against. This line is fucking terrible. They give up A+ scoring chances almost every shift they get out there. They constantly get 3 guys trapped below the hash marks despite little offensive skill or output. Just… bad. All the fucking time. This year is a tragedy in coaching and asset management. Sens are a playoff team if we aren’t penny pinching idiots & awful TOI management fools. Christ it’s so painful to endure this shit. We could and SHOULD be so much better.

    • PraiseAlfie11

Hey, maybe that’s paul’s way of telling the owner something?

      • FistsofNeil25

        One can only hope…

      • xiorcal

saying what? you gave me hemsky to make sure i was going to stop using that line but f u guys i’m still playing them, (probably followed by an evil/mad laugh and petting of a white cat)

    • PraiseAlfie11

You’re right though – we should be better. That’s why I say we are fine and no major moves needed upfront.

I think it’s very safe to say that 1 less goal against per game and we would be a playoff team. This could be accomplished with a shift to defense first approach. I have been looking at the “elite” teams lately. IMO, their defence pinches much Less

  • sprucesens

turris seems like such a humble guy, and just happy to be playing here. glad we have him signed for a few more years.

    • CUP 2014-15

Arguably the best contract in the league

      • FistsofNeil25

It’s definitely up there with the best. Guy like Tavares and Keith are signed to bargain deals.

        • CUP 2014-15

Have to love there being 4 yrs left after this one at 3.5

  • xiorcal

Is there a rule that say that during hockey players interview you have to answer your question before letting the player speak?

  • Nicholas Rawlins

Love the tweet of the waffles, turns out that leaf fan who did that lives in banff Alberta close to me haha my buddy is friends with him. Oh and loving the sens staying true to their identity this season by giving up a 2 goal lead….sarcasm.

  • Andrews theory

While he does ramble on and is potentially mildly cenial, I think it’s a bit silly to completely dismiss everything Potvin is saying.

He play a game or two in the NHL as one of the top defenseman in the league.

    • Jacques

Arguably in the top 5-6 of all time. He was really good.

      • CUP 2014-15

You know he was great just due to the fact they still chant Potvin Sucks at rangers games regardless of it being about 30 years since he tortured them.

        • Jacques

No kidding, he was a rock defensively and he could bring it offensively!

          • Jacques

Sort of like a Raymond Bourque with maybe a little more grit.

          • Harv

Better than Bourque, I tthink and he hit like Stevens.

          • Jacques

He was physical, he was tough to play against, no wonder they won 4 cups in a row!

          • CUP 2014-15

Let’s not forget all the hardware to go with the 4 count em…Four rings

  • H POTTER

I’m shocked! Condra did not miss the net

    • Jacques

      Not much talent there.

  • sprucesens

jeez, i bet there’s less than 1000 ppl there right now…

    • xiorcal

only 500 left the rest wanted to avoid the traffic rush after the game

  • FistsofNeil25

    Stone has been awesome tonight.

    • Jacques

His skating looks fine, so smart knows where to be all the time!

  • jasonontheoldsenschirp

Patrick Wiercioch is giving no reason as to why he should be scratched next game. He’s playing just fine.

    Arguably better than Chris Phillips.

    • karlssens

      Arguably??

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Just got home, How have they looked. Good to hear Wiercioch and Stone are playing weell

    • sprucesens

PW had a couple ill advised pinches, but all in all him and the rest have played decently.

    • xiorcal

Played ok but are starting to look out of gaz. Lehner is fighting with the puck like crazy. The ref are having almost no impact on the game (2 quick whisle going our way today). Luongo is the difference maker in this game today.

      • Moudy Mahfouz

Lets jsut grab points so we dont finish bottom 5. Thats what im cheering for

        • Jacques

That first pick is lost anyhow, if we win our 2nd rounder gets worse, just another way to look at it! Lol

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Defense Potvin defense thats what happened

    • H POTTER

      Lmao

      • H POTTER

Where can I send my CV ? Anyone can do it better than potvin

  • xiorcal

I think Potvin was mixing stopping a puck with how to fend off a mountain lion

    • FistsofNeil25

I think he’s mixing his bourbon with his rum..

      • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Man by the 3rd period who knows what he’s saying, that guy gets greasy every time haha

  • Moudy Mahfouz

I love this time of the year even though we arent playoff potential, i love the playoff races. So intense. Other then my exams, playoff hockey is soon boys!

  • xiorcal

Good thing condra is never able to score lol

  • Jacques

Condra trying to get one in his own net now!

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Time out Maclean, I think id be great coach

  • xiorcal

in the so crazy it might work department, put condra with hemsky and spezza and just ask him to stay put in front of the goalie.

    • FistsofNeil25

They should put Hoffman on that line. At least he knows how to get himself in scoring position.

      • Harv

Agree` with that. Hoffman would improve the Spezza line

    • Andrews theory

Stone and Hoffman are both shooters

  • Cicero

If I’m not mistakened, a loss means mathematical elimination. The play in the last few minutes and OT (if applicable) will say a LOT about character and leadership moving forward. Also, PW46 and Stone are NHL-ready. Time to make room for them both.

    • xiorcal

no mathematical elimination is when you cant go above the number of points the 8th seeded team has at the moment

    • Harv

Hoffman as well. They replace Michalek, Condra and Cowen/Phillips.

  • Harv

Lou beats us if we get to a shootout.

    • Zelle

Lou is not great at shootouts. Also that’s what people said yesterday against Bishop.

    • Cicero

…and Lehner stoned Stamkos and Co.

    • CUP 2014-15

Robin with two straight SO wins, his last two wins with all those losses in between. Maybe now he only wins in SO’s LOL

      • Harv

Could be, CUP. Let’s hope so.

        • CUP 2014-15

Well here we go make it 3 in a row

  • FistsofNeil25

It actually blows my mind how much better Stone is skating compared to his last call-up. Man I’m pumped about this!

    • Moudy Mahfouz

      He looks great…

    • Cicero

And engaged, and physical….all good :)

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

As bad as it is in Ottawa, it’s amazing to watch the Leafs crumble right now! PLAYOFFS?!

  • Moudy Mahfouz

WHY THE FUCK IS GSN ON

    • Moudy Mahfouz

      Excuse my language

    • Zelle

Spezza line was being out muscled?

  • xiorcal

    too many man maybe?

    • FistsofNeil25

At least 8 guys in Florida jerseys on the ice.

    • Sicilian

      I thought that too

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

At least Anaheim is getting a worse pick! And possibly another cup with it….

  • xiorcal

3 guys staying on the puck none covering the pass wow (>_<

  • Moudy Mahfouz

    POINTS FEELS GOOD

  • Zelle

Key saves by Lehner tonight. Luongo is just having a hell of a game.

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Denis Potvin just called Luongo one of Florida’s favourite children….He’s really gotta lay off the intermission flask hits…

  • MB

If Jason Spezza could play like he is playing tonight with any consistency he could help the Sens for a long time. Might have no points but he’s playing the type of game that will help teams win when games are close. Just don’t think he will ever do it consistently.

  • H POTTER

    OMG

  • Zelle

    LUONGO FUUUU

  • sprucesens

    smith and michalek…..?

  • H POTTER

    U don’t believe this…press box next game?

    • CUP 2014-15

      YEP F#@K

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

This has been the story the whole season……Take stupid penalties at stupid times….Get scored on and lose….

  • Zelle

Never put the stick in front, you know the guy is going to hold it as long as he can to sell the call :/

    • Andrews theory

He should have simply dropped his stick…

      • xiorcal

or kept it on the ice

      • Zelle

He did, although probably too late. Still, his stick shouldn’t be in that area of the player. I’ve never seen a player not take the opportunity to hold it to get a call.

  • Cicero

“Oh a stick in my armpit. I’ll hold it and fall and see what happens….”

  • Nicholas Rawlins

We have to have the record in a season for penalties taken in 5 min ot periods right?

  • Harv

    They call it every time.

  • CUP 2014-15

Cowen and Gryba have been great on the PK

  • FistsofNeil25

    What a save!

  • Cicero

    GREAT PK.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

Atta be boys. Im glad they killed that for Wiercioch

  • Zelle

Lehner is in the zone now. Good bounce back from that second goal.

  • Zelle

Karlsson! Psh and people say he can’t defend. The guy makes it look effortless.

    • FistsofNeil25

      He’s been great tonight.

      • Harv

        He works hard every night.

  • xiorcal

    neil smith condra ?

    • Andrews theory

Going with a hunch, gotta be Kassian

      • xiorcal

3 times in a row lol

    • Zelle

      Spezza Stone Turris!

      • xiorcal

        almost zelle

        • Zelle

So close… although honestly who would have guessed Milo? lol

  • H POTTER

So we kill the P. Survive the rest of the OT. Weir gets a shot at the shootout ? Lmao

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

WHY THE FUCK ARE WE PUTTING MICHALEK IN THE SHOOT OUT?!

    • Zelle

Because the third shooter won’t be needed, obviously.

      • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Especially with Lehner in there, I was happy for him last night but generally he bites on everything in the shootout

  • Harv

    Weircoch needs more playing time.

  • xiorcal

    i hate shootout

  • xiorcal

    YES

  • FistsofNeil25

    Turris…what a shot.

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

    Nice snipe by Turris there

  • xiorcal

    go lehner

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

    BITES AGAIN…..

    • Zelle

That was a good move though…

    • xiorcal

stoping like that is not a shootout attempt

  • H POTTER

    Legggo Spezz

  • Andrews theory

    Dirty!

  • H POTTER

    Danm

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

    BITES AGAIN! TWICE!!!!!

  • Moudy Mahfouz

    What a save by Luongo..

  • FistsofNeil25

Michalek over Hemsky, MacArthur, Karlsson, Hoffman or Stone? Hmmmm…

    • Cicero

I just laughed and shook my head….

      • FistsofNeil25

        At me or Michalek? lol

    • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

The coaching this year is baffling, I can’t believe Hemsky hasn’t had one shot yet in the shoot out….WTF?!

      • Zelle

If you are talking about Maclean he does not make the SO choices anymore?

        • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

The entire coaching staff this year has been off

      • Aaron 2.0

I don’t know what his record is, but Hemsky doesn’t have much of a shot. He’d have to go for a deke or dangle every time.

        • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

Who cares, he can’t be any worse than MICHALEK

          • Mat

Gryba couldn’t be any worse than Michalek…

          • Zelle

I would love to see Gryba in the shootout for pure hilarity.

          • Jacques

            He has a heavy shot

      • Zelle

Hemsky wasn’t that great this game. Honestly I think Stone would have been the best third shooter. Had a good game. Got a goal, two scoring chances outside of that, young guy might surprise a veteran like Lou.

  • Moudy Mahfouz

And the 500 in attendance go wild

  • mr.slapshot

    fuck, shootouts are dumb

  • KingKarlsson84 – RSU is pathet

MICHALEK SUCKKKKKSSSSS…..Let’s put him in last when we shoot first, he’s so clutch this year with a 1/6 record….Let’s make it 1/7 now! This team has so much deadweight it’s not even funny….

  • Zelle

BAH! Damn Luongo was on tonight.

  • Andrews theory

So… We’re not making the playoffs?

    • Moudy Mahfouz

      8 pts out but no

      • Andrews theory

        LOL , despite your optimism

We weren’t making the playoffs after the second period in Edmonton

  • Mat

Really Michalek??? WHY???? Fuck I hate this guy..

  • H POTTER

Seriously Michalek over Hemsky ???????!!!!!!! Lorddddd

  • MacK

bummer…well, is that unofficially the season now? I was hoping we’d make it interesting and win out the remainder of the year.

  • Mat

This is some of the coaching decisions that validates that coaching has been awful this year. WTF are you thinking MacLean??

    • mr.slapshot

Think he said Cameron chooses the shootouts

      • mr.slapshot

        Which also explains a lot

      • Mat

He still has the power to overrule really really bad decisions..

      • Harv

The Head Coach is the Head Coach. The buck stops there. Dumb shoot out picks are on him.

        • Zelle

Unless he was told he doesn’t choose the shooters anymore, which he was… he might be head coach, but he’s not at the top of the food chain.

        • mr.slapshot

Does he really want to disagree with Euges golden boy?

          • Mat

I fail to see what is golden about him. Secret lovers perhaps?

  • Moudy Mahfouz

8 pts out I have faith (ya im kidding) but lets just keep grabbing pts and ill be happy

  • Harv

We handed them the game because of really dumb decision making. PMac – that’s you.

  • Brutus5247

The COD Bowl.. battle of the bottom feeders.

  • Aaron 2.0

Always tough to lose in the SO. But, it is what it is – Skills competition. Tough one for Lehner. Both shooters did exactly what he admittedly struggles with in the SO. Change of pace. Good game by him though. The bigger issue was the team letting go of a 2 goal lead than losing the SO.

  • Brutus5247

    Luongo.. the difference.

    • PraiseAlfie11

Gave up 2 goals in less than 30 seconds…the difference.

  • xiorcal

we can still get to 92 points and 77.9% playoff chances

    • Mat

      Dude.. don’t. Just. Don’t….

      • xiorcal

not over until the fat lady…. :-P

        • Mat

She’s been signing since the Boston game. Loud and clear.

          • xiorcal

stop trying to break my denial state you nagger

          • Mat

Haha.. Stop trying to ruin my cathartic anger Positive Pete!!

          • xiorcal

            Never !!!!!!

    • Jason

Lol we gave up like 40 shots to Florida! And lost to them! How can you think were going to win 10 in a row?

  • Mat

Great game by Spezza tonight. He skated like an 8 year younger version of himself. Good to see. If that’s not leading by example, I don’t know what is.

Also, in all fairness to the Sens, if this wasn’t in the middle of a 1-6-1 run, we would all be saying that 3 pts on a back to back is a great result. But alas, frustration levels are high…

  • Jason

Someone please tell me what the obsession with Michalek is? Hes bad, why isn’t MacArthur or Karlsson shooting in the SO? Last time i checked Karlsson was an amazing stick handler, shooter and great scoring touch.

    • Jacques

      Or Hemsky for that matter.

    • Roar…

He also won… vs. HIMSELF (took Ceci’s spot on the other team) in the shoot-out competition for the Sens Skills competition. He was the last man standing on both sides. You really think he’d shoot more often.

    • Senators Pundit

When he was taking heat earlier in the season for his shootout picks, PMac explained his decision by saying he thinks the best choice is to go with the vets who have the most shootout experience.

We ended up breaking our SO by slotting in Zbad.

…Slotting in MM9 was a bad call then, it’s a bad call now.

  • Mat

I’ve been a big fan of Murray all through his tenure. Some questionable signings and trades along the way (Kovalev? Philips X2??) but overall, a pretty impeccable record. But if he signs Michalek over the summer that respect is out the window. I remain hopeful that he can still see the game with his old eyes.

    • Jacques

He’s clogged everything up by signing Condra,Greening,Smith, and Phillips to multi year contracts. Guys who should all be on the way out. Those were bad decisions!

      • SensChirp

I don’t think they were bad decisions. They were decisions influenced by budgetary restraints and hoping that those guys could be the supporting cast/role players for a contending team. Hasn’t worked out that way obviously.

        • Jacques

Grant should be playing instead of Smith, Stone instead of Greening, Schneider or whoever instead of Condra, and Claessen or Boro instead of Phillips. All cheaper options for a budget team so I see no logic paying these guys over the others. Plus more talent with the younger guys. You have to promote after awhile or your minor league Team saturates and guys get frustrated(Hoffman and Prince and DaCosta examples of frustrated young guys).

          • Jacques

This team’s management shouldn’t have fallen in love with these stop gap options 14-22-15 especially when they knew what they had coming down the pipes. Bingo probably has the best set of forwards in the AHL. A diverse group of scorers and good utility guys!

          • CUP 2014-15

Starting any of those guys at the start of this season or even now is way too early. Stone is ready but it’s been three years since the NYR. game. Hoffman has been timed perfectly, as it looks now anyway. We have seen this young D playing its best hockey of late but it was a tough start.
Greening has more to offer. Not sure why his year was so bad but we have seen first hand that this guy can play and I don’t think a bad sophomore year is out of the question. No question Condra is done and he will have value to teams at the draft. There is no room in the middle forever so JGP and SDC have their log jam in front let alone Grant. IMO

          • Jacques

Cup I don’t agree, we fell in love with one guy who was passed over in the draft twice(Smith) , two college players drafted really in the late rounds and now we wonder why are they struggling, and they’re signed all to multi year deals! The best players aren’t playing and we wonder why we’re not in the playoff picture, there is your answer, how’s Bingo doing, oh highest scoring team in the AHL. That team could beat the Sens on some nights wouldn’t be surprised.

          • Doc

Not sure what your beef with Smith is, but he’s good at what he does and doesn’t cost much. 52.2% on faceoff, hits, fights, and is good defensively.

And enough with Bingo. Thinking that all Bingo players would come up to the NHL and start tearing it up is a silly notion and wishful thinking at best.

      • Mat

No one disagrees with Philips. Even the previous contract was a mistake. This last one is borderline mental. Condra is not signed long term. Only has 1 more year. Smith is serviceable at his price, add toughness and face off competency. Problem with Smith is he chews minutes from Mika and Turris lines.

Greening is a question mark for sure. There’s potential in there but how long is that leash? We all know he’s trade bait in the near future..

        • Jacques

          Will be tough trading Greening.

  • T K

Is it Sportsnet or my PVR?
Has the video for the past 5-6 games been really bad? I keep getting black screens (audio ok) popping up throughout the game. Seems like this has gone beyond embarrassing to downright technical incompetence from Rogers…

  • my2sens

Biggest disappointment last night. Not seeing Stone in shootout.

    • Deadly

I think Stone is more of a ” garbage collector ” type scorer and not a puck handling shoot out specialist.
