The rumours surrounding Alex Chiasson’s future were swirling throughout Draft weekend in Buffalo.
This afternoon, Pierre Dorion finally made a move. Alex Chiasson, an unsigned restricted free agent, has been traded to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Patrick Sieloff. The Flames have already signed Chiasson to a one year contract.
The Senators had to make a decision on whether or not to qualify Chiasson by 5:00 PM today and instead have opted to trade his rights to the Flames. It’s a disappointing end for Chiasson who was the centre piece in the trade that sent Jason Spezza to the Dallas Stars.
In Sieloff, the Senators are getting a defenceman that played last season with the Stockton Heat of the American Hockey League. Sieloff played in one NHL game last year and scored a goal. Sieloff was a 2nd round pick in the 2012 Entry Draft.
With the 5:00 PM deadline for RFAs approaching, the Senators also confirmed that Patrick Wiercioch was not sent a qualifying offer. That means he’ll be a UFA later this week.
Roster update: The #Sens have sent qualifying offers to Bailey, Ceci, Claesson, Dzingel, Hoffman, McCormick and Puempel.
