Heading into Sunday’s Rookie Tournament finale, the story for the Ottawa Senators had been between the pipes.
That all changed with an offensive outburst earlier this afternoon.
The Senators capped off the tournament in style, cruising to a 6-3 win over the rookies from the Montreal Canadiens. With the win, the Sens finished 2-0-1 in the three game round-robin.
Not a bad way to kick off the lead up to a new NHL season.
While no NHL lineup decisions were made this weekend, Senators Management will be thrilled with the performance of a few key veterans, especially in the final game against Montreal.

Thomas Chabot racked up four assists vs Montreal, including three primary assists. Team Captain Nick Paul, who was clearly a step ahead of most of the players in this tournament, had two goals/two assists, giving him a team leading five points through three games.
Pierre Dorion spoke to TSN1200 between periods and spoke highly of a number of players including Chabot, Paul, Englund and Perron.
Thing started slow for the Senators but it’s safe to say the organization got what they expected from some of the team’s top prospects. For players like Thomas Chabot and Nick Paul, it’s one small step toward cracking the NHL roster when the games start for real in October.
Next up- Training Camp on Thursday.
-While there has been plenty of prospect talk the last couple days, there was an interesting note from the World Cup that may have an impact on the Senators roster heading into Training Camp. According to Steve Simmons, the Senators have been keeping a close eye on Team Europe defenceman Dennis Seidenberg. Seidenberg has let it be known that he’s hoping to catch on with an NHL team ahead of the preseason and that his preference is a contract rather than a PTO. Sounds like there are a few other teas in the mix though. Ottawa has already offered Matt Bartkowski a PTO but there’s certainly still room for Seidenberg, if they decide to go that route. Something to keep an eye on in the next couple weeks.
