Chabot, Jaros Recalled from Belleville

So much for letting those promising prospects “develop”.

Faced with early season injuries to three defenceman, the Ottawa Senators have been forced to turn to a couple young guys on the blueline.

Yesterday, the Senators recalled Thomas Chabot and Christian Jaros from Belleville of the American Hockey League. Both players are expected to join the team on West Coast road trip that begins in Vancouver tomorrow night.

For Chabot, the recall comes only one week after he was sent to the AHL to work on what Boucher called “professional reads”. When to jump in and when not to, sort of thing. Ideally he would have had more than two games to make the adjustment but injuries to Karlsson, Oduya and now Ben Harpur obviously accelerated those timelines.

By all accounts, Chabot was the best player on the ice for Belleville in both games, picking up a goal and an assist.

Jaros also gets the call after appearing in just one preseason game in Ottawa. He looked quite good in that one game but was sent down surprisingly early in Camp.

Goes without saying but this is obviously a great opportunity for both guys to show they can play at this level.

Up until this point, Chabot has been playing the right side and during Camp and preseason, saw a lot of time paired with Dion Phaneuf. He should also provide a boost to an Ottawa power play that has gone 0 for 12 to start the season.

We’ll find out exactly where these two guys fit, and the status of Erik Karlsson and Johnny Oduya, later today.
