With more than a month still to go until the start of training camp, it’s pretty clear that there won’t be much in the way of news before the season starts.
The Cody Ceci contract is one thing to look forward to but based on everything we’ve heard there, it’s likely going to be a short term deal. Dorion spoke briefly on the subject today during the introduction of Derick Brassard and echoed what he has all along- Cody Ceci will be in the line up when the season starts on October 12th.
The longer it drags on the more the alternative scenarios will be discussed (long term deal, hold out, trade) but it’s pretty clear those are all secondary options at this point.
What was interesting in Dorion’s comments this morning is confirmation that the team continues to search for a bottom pairing defensive option.
It’s an area that has been identified as a priority for readers on this site and clearly it’s an area where Dorion would like to upgrade.
While he didn’t say much about exactly what the plan is to fill the hole, he mentioned that both trade and free agency are being considered. This isn’t going to be a big money addition but it’s clear that the organization thinks they’d benefit from some additional experience on that bottom pair.
No blockbuster trades coming but it seems like there might be one more addition before Camp opens in September.
Hang in there, Sens fans. Video of Dorion’s comments is posted below and you can see Brassard’s introduction here.
