This afternoon, the Ottawa Senators announced that Daniel Alfredsson is returning for another year as the team’s Senior Advisor of Hockey Operations.
It’s a one year contract extension with the same title as he had last season.
Much has been made about Alfredsson’s future role in the organization and bringing him back under the same title suggests that both the team and Alfie are still trying to nail down exactly where he fits long term. In this role, Alfredsson has a number of responsibilities that seem to blur the lines between front office and coaching. And clearly that works just fine for both sides.
Alfredsson obviously has a lot to offer as an on-ice assistant and this hybrid role allows him to share his expertise with the Coaching Staff while at the same time learning more about the front office side of things.
Also of note from the press release is that Alfredsson and his family plan to move back to Ottawa full time.
Maybe it’s because it’s Monday but reading a tweet that started with “Daniel Alfredsson signs a one year…” made me a little dizzy for a second.
Good to have Alfredsson back in the fold for another season.
