Jared Cowen has probably been the Ottawa Senators most consistent defensive defenceman this season.

And he was that again tonight logging 26:04 in ice time including more than four minutes on the powerplay.  But the contribution didn't stop there, as Cowen jumped into the play to score the overtime winner and put the Sens back in the win column.

The month of December has not been kind to the Ottawa Senators.

They come into tonight’s battle with the Buffalo Sabres sporting an ugly 1-3-2 record which has seen them slide to 12th in the Eastern Conference. The good news is with the standings as tight as they are, a win tonight could vault them right back into a playoff position.

After an extended stay in the press box, the Ottawa Senators have decided to assign Nikita Filatov to the KHL.

Over this recent stretch of games it was pretty clear that Filatov did not fit into the team's plans for this season.  Important to note that because Filatov is being assigned, the Sens will continue to hold his rights.

After an ugly loss at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks, the Ottawa Senators have now lost five of their last six and have slipped to 11th in the East.

At the thirty game mark, the Sens are a respectable 13-13-4 but will have to turn things around in a hurry if they want to stay in the mix in the playoff race in the Eastern Conference.

After a disappointing shootout loss in New Jersey on Thursday night, the Ottawa Senators will try to rebound when they host the surging Vancouver Canucks.

The Canucks have won 8 of their last 10 and finally seem to be finding their groove from last season.  Vancouver was last in action on Thursday when they topped the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout.

It was an off day for the Sens today but the organization did hold a news conference with some information on the NHL All Star Game.

For the second straight season, a draft will be held to select teams.  The event will be held on Thursday, January 26th at Casino Lac Leamy. On that same day, there are also festivities planned at the Rideau Canal which will include a display of each of the NHL's trophies.

The Ottawa Senators stormed out to a 3-0 lead and it looked like this would be a cake walk for the visiting squad.

The Sens were in control but a three goal lead was laughed aside by the Devils and if not by a late goal by Jesse Winchester, this would have been an easy two points for the New Jersey Devils.

Perhaps from now on the Ottawa Senators would be better off heading into the third period down by a goal.

As was the case in Dallas a couple games ago, the Sens were unable to hold a third period last night and ended up coughing up the two points to the Washington Capitals for the second time in less than a week.

On Saturday night, Brooks Laich scored an overtime winner that sent the Sens to a disappointing overtime loss. Tonight, Ottawa has a chance to get some revenge.

The Sens continue a busy December on home ice with another tilt with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Craig Anderson make the start in goal and according to Paul MacLean, it sounds like Alex Auld will start tomorrow in New Jersey.

After another strong performance by Nick Foligno last night, which included the game winning goal, the Ottawa Senators search for a second line centre seems to be cooling a little.

When Stephane Da Costa was demoted to the AHL, it appeared as though the Sens were going to have to fill the void through trade but thanks to the play of Foligno, the situation seems far less dire.
