While there are obvious benefits to allowing a player to play for his country, I understand why Murray would opt to keep one of his top prospects in the AHL. As Wednesday’s article suggested, the organization is cognizant of the adjustment period players like Zibanejad and Silfverberg require and obviously does not want to set that process back in any way.
And when you consider what Zibanejad has already accomplished in the yearly Junior tournament, you can make the argument that there isn’t a whole lot else for him to accomplish at that level.
It certainly isn’t an issue right now, but the Senators expect to have Zibanejad in camp with the big team when the time comes, so they feel it’s important that he continues to develop his game on North American ice.
While it would have been nice to watch Zibanejad dominate at this year's World Juniors, you have to assume that the organization is doing what they feel is best for his development and based on Zibanejad's reaction to the decision, he seems to agree.
- In your daily dose of good news on the CBA front, the NHL has apparently proposed a meeting of just owners and players to discuss the state of negotiations. Seems unlikely the NHLPA would be on board with something like this, but the idea of removing Fehr and Bettman from the process for a day sounds like a damn good idea to me.
- The BSens are back in action tonight when they visit the Adirondack Phantoms for a 7:00 PM start. Keep an eye on the comment section for any streams that become available.
- It's opening night for The Senate Sports Tavern and Eatery at 33 Clarence St. in the market. I had a chance to get a sneak preview on Wednesday night and the place is unbelievable. Some amazing memorabilia to check out and a vibe that I think Ottawa residents are going to love. If you do have a chance to make it down there this weekend, feel free to share your experience in the comment section!
Would love to check out the Senate. But there is just SO much crap going on each and every weekend leading up to Christmas. But I wouldn't mind a night out soon! ;)
Zibanejad in AHL team in Binghamton.
He will no doubt be developing much quicker in getting used to smaller ice surface.
He already has his "golden goal".
Almost all of his hockey has been short seasons on big ice.
He needs to experience a full season of the slog that is
North America hockey.
And with every NHL team having top level prospects in the AHL - it'll probably be a full year of "NHL Lite"
Well said.
I've had a lot of time to think about this and I'll admit, I had thought the club would hold on to them as long as possible, seems logical. But with an NHL season that looks to be lost and Lehner/Bishop playing lights out in the A when needed, what will BM decide to do next season? Bishop will be up for contract, Lehner will be looking to land a one way backup job, while Anderson will expect to continue as the teams starter?
I can start this whole debate by saying this.. Lehner is NOT going anywhere. Without a doubt he is the clubs future, so that leaves us with two options, what happens between Bishop and Anderson?
I think it's easy to say that Anderson is of the proven NHL goalie variety, while Bishop is considered more of a future star caliber with high upside.
Purely and example here, if Ottawa is dealing with the likes of Calgary. We know Kipper has the reigns and they would be in need of a new young guy that will eventually take over (assuming Irving and Karlsson are not in consideration) then Bishop is the guy they'd be after.
But if dealing with a team like Florida who has Markström waiting in the wings, then it is likely that Anderson would be the man they'd be after for the next few seasons until Markström is ready to lead.
We can speculate what should or shouldn't happen, but in reality it will come down to who brings Ottawa the best return. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about right? So in that case, it depends on who it is that Ottawa is dealing with as every team has a need, and every teams need is different, especially at the Goalie position.
Ya he's hurt. Out for some time.
Stefan Neosen is back from injury tho and picked up where he left off; 2 goals so far.
Stone gets the latest goal. 5-4 bsens after 2 periods and bishop is in nets. Anyone know why Lawson is the backup and not lehner?
There better be highlights, I missed the goal
I heard nothing about Lehner being out. And what is up with every Bishop game being close to 50 shots against. Zib also wasn't playing, hmm
Zibanejad had the flu so he didn't play tonight.
OTherwise, I don't miss the NHL. Why would I?? The BSens sqad is thoroughly impressive. 7 game winning streak with a team of rookies!?! Fuck yeah!
And while everyone is talking about the progress of Zibby, Silf and Stone, I can't say enough about Andre Benoit and Tyler Ekford. Those guys are providing way more than what was ever expected of them. And much respect for Borowiecki for his fearless intensity.
I won't be disappointed when Gonchar decides to stay in the Goulags and one of those guys take the spot, which they have thus far earned.
Go BSens!

They are 2 pts behind Syracuse for the division (and conference) lead -- with Syracuse having played 1 more game.
Hoping for a Syracuse loss tonight... then they are in Binghamton tomorrow for a big game..
Go B-Sens...
The B-SensHockeyLiv e Ustream the last couple of games has been terrible. Last night kept going down.. and the game before I lost the entire third period.
Is there another stream besides this one?
The stream went down in the last few mins for me too.
Missed Silferbergs goal!
at game time I usually go to google and type (as an example) "binghamton senators vs syracuse december 2nd stream". There's a website called something like "usahockeylive" that works great for me

Beauty goal
Beauty is right, so quick. But take a look at the work Hoffman does to win the puck and the pass he makes. Another wow!
