Alfredsson Will Play in Game 6

There have been some electric crowds at Scotiabank Place over the years.

When the Senators clinched the playoffs for the first time with a win over the Sabres, when Igor Kravchuk drove the nail through the Devil’s heart and in 2007 when a Stanley Cup Game was played in Ottawa.  I expect all those to be rivaled by the crowd that packs SBP tonight when the Senators play Game 6 of their series against the New York Rangers.

Heading into Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead, the Sens have a chance to do something pretty special with a win over the Rangers tonight.  As the number eight seed, the Sens were eliminated from the playoffs before the puck even dropped.  But as this team has reminded us all year, that’s why they play the games…

In Game 5, we saw just how important it is for the Sens to get the first goal.  Through the first 4 games, the Sens had barley any odd man rushes but once the Sens scored early in Game 4, they forced the Rangers to open up a little bit.  The result was a number of excellent scoring chances for the Senators.  Get the lead again tonight and we can expect more of the same.

The Sens and the SBP faithful should get a huge boost from the return of Daniel Alfredsson.  Alfie missed the last three games with a concussion but will be in the line up tonight.  That Alfie Chant that has picked up steam in these playoffs should hit another level when the clock hits 11:11 in the first period.

Swedish sensation Jakob Silfverberg was on the ice for the morning skate as was cagey playoff veteran Mark Stone.  Both took turns on the top line but it looks like MacLean is leaning towards Silfverberg for Game 6. We'll have to wait till closer to game time to find out for sure.

Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.

Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg
Foligno-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Smith-Neil
Konopka-O'Brien-Condra

Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Carkner
Cowen-Gonchar

If you are lucky enough to attend Game 6, get ready to make some noise.  The crowd at Game 4 was absolutely electric but I expect fans to take it up a notch in this one.  Don’t forget it’s a 7:00 PM start!!

GO SENS GO!

It's Monday morning, elimination game with Sens up 3-2... and all I can think of is this...

Alfie returns.
Silfverberg debut.
Boyle out.

Perfect scenario.

Let's get it done tonight.

They said our season was over before it already began. They said we weren't skilled enough to play with the big boys. They said we were rebuilding from scratch. Well guess what, we're here, we'll cheer, and we've got another gear! The time is now! Send those mofo's to the Hamptons for their tee time! Go Sens go!

Coach MacLean wants to find out right away, the chemistry
with Silverberg, on Line 1 with Spezza and Michalek.

Hope Alfredsson remains concussion symptom free before
puck drop, and would love to see Alfie score another Game Winning Goal , to sink the Rangers till next year !

Personally, I think the SENS should go with Alfie on the 1st line. We really need a big game (multiple points) out of Spezza, Alfie, Karlsson and Michalek. I don't think the Rangers would be able to stop that top line for long.

Michalek - Spezza - Alfie
Foligno - Turris - Condra/Butler
Greening - Smith - Neil
Konopka - O'Brien - Stone/Silverber g

Continuing from the other thread...

Quoting DenisVial:
There may be a maximum of 23 players on each Club's playing roster at any one time from the commencement of the NHL regular season through the trade deadline. Prior to the start of the season, each Club must submit to the NHL its "Opening Day Playing Roster" which shall be comprised of not more than 23 players. Each Club must have a roster of at least 20 players, composed of 18 skaters and two goaltenders. Players on Injured Reserve do not count in the 23-man limit.

Once the playoffs start, the 23-man limit is suspended until the end of the following preseason. That means teams can have as many players on their "playing roster" as possible, but teams are still only allowed to dress 20 players (2 of which MUST be goalies) for each game.

He's actually always been projected as a strong 2-way player. This year is the first time scouts have talked about him actually maybe being a first line guy.

So yeah he's responsible defensively.

And anyone questioning the ability of Spezza or Michalek to play in their own zone is out to lunch.

There's a difference between focusing on creating offense and not being able to play defence.

If you gave me the list of players 2 weeks ago I would have said:

MM-Spezza-JS33
Foligno-Turris-Alfie
Greening-Smith-Neil
Stone-Winnie/Obrien-Condra

But with the way kenopka has been playing the past 5 games. His PK abilities, and face off prowess has made him untouchable on that 4th line for now. Not many other teams have a guy who is content to play 5 min a game even strength but can go out and win 60% of faceoffs in spot duty as well

Good god no Cotton Eye Joe! Caps @ Bruins game on Saturday was a shining example of the kind of rough, heavy, energy inducing music that works well - hard rock & metal saturated.

Though it was a bit uncomfortable when the it took an espacilly long time to drop the puck on one sequence and "Du Hast" by Rammstein was blaring for about 70 seconds. Haha!

I'm so F'ing excited right now. I said it before, I'm not the biggest fan of changing the lines, but for some reason the addition of Silfverberg doesn't worry me, it only excites me more. We threw Butler into the mix when needed and he rose to the challenge. We Inked in Stone, game 5, biggest of his career and he met our expectations. I see no problem giving Silfverberg the same type of treatment.

Start the game with:

Michalek-Spezza-Stone/Silfverberg
Silfverberg/Stone-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-Smith-Greening
O'Brien-Konopka-Neil

Condra comes out. Condra has played admirably especially from a defensive standpoint although offensively his inability to finish off his chances has been a bit frustrating to watch.

I don't even know what to say right now. I've never been more excited for a hockey game in my life.

This game feels bigger than any of the games in our past playoff history, including our run to the cup finals. I'm more excited for this game than I was for the Gold Medal Games in Vancouver and Salt Lake City, or the World Junior gold medal game here in Ottawa.

I have 4 exams this week, and I can't concentrate long enough to study today. I'm trying my best but the only thoughts going through my head are about this sick team we have and how pumped up I am to be a part of game 6 tonight at SBP.

The building is going to be electric. There are so many huge story lines coming into tonight. Alfie's return. Silfverberg's debut, the world class goaltending of Craig Anderson, and the fact that the team that was supposed to finish dead last in the NHL has an opportunity to knock off the top seeded New York Rangers.

If the Sens win tonight, we will be the only Canadian team still playing hockey. We have an opportunity to expand our fan base right now. You know we have a special team when even Leaf fans are jumping on the bandwagon.

Go Sens GOOOOOOOOOOO!!! !!!!!

Going to be a pretty interesting off season.

Stall WAS the best player in a Pens uniform, but do you think they would even consider shopping Crosby or Malkin? You have to start somewhere, and Staal would get the most bang for your buck if your doing a minor rebuild and looking to beef up other positions. Staal would be a 2nd or 1st line C on many teams.

Why would Pittsburgh ever trade Crosby, Malkinm or Staal? You build around those guys, not blow it up. The ONLY reason Pittsburgh lost that series is because Fleury was absolutely horrible except for game 5. Bryz was bad, but Fleury's performance was one of the worst I have ever seen in the playoffs.

Ya, Fleury must have been injured or something. The Pen's defence was not great at protecting him when they know he's struggling. They should have been playing more defensive hockey when they know their goalie is having a bad time. They have enough skills to pounce on mistakes but they looked frailled as a group...

Looking into the future for sure. At this point it's not a stretch to say that we may have 3 rookies on our roster next season with Stone, Silfverberg, and Zibby. Assuming Alfie comes back for another season, who would be the players that would likely be replaced by those 3?

Simple, two bad playoff performances in a row, regardless of who is held responsible. No real drafted stars coming into the fold since Crosby and Malkin started playing. Eric Tangradi is the biggest name they have who isn't a full time player and he's not living up to expections after 24 games this year. And how many teams are paying a 3rd line C 4.5 mil? Not saying he isn't worth it, but they have all the money sitting in the top 3 C positions. They have no real superstar wingers (exception to the acquisition of James Neal) and every year rely on picking up a vertern guy that will hopefully get them over the hump, this year it was Sullivan, last year Kovalev (ha ha), year before Guerin, Satan, it's a running history.

They made a lot of playoff push moves in the past, that took away a lot of picks and options. They need to do at least a semi rebuild and get some top quality draft picks back and start building internally again. Just my two cents.

Pretty much agree, aside from Letang their 2 best dmen(martin and michalek) were UFA acquisitions.

Trading Staal for a winger should be priority #1..Dupuis, cooke, kunitz can only produce for so long.

Staal for Kessle would make sense, but Burke wouldn't give up on Kessel, aside from that maybe the blues would be interested in giving up oshie in a package. And finally I think CLB have a guy they want to trade right?

They won't have the room to re-sign Staal for the price he is expected to go for (his agent is asking for huge money). He is by far the best 3rd line C in the game right now. Plus, he's ONLY 23. Most "experts" believe he is top line C on most teams too!

Both Sid and Malkin are going into the final year of their contract so I'd say they're shopping Staal for some young, elite prospects to go on those top 2 lines.

And no way they would trade Fleury, they have no one to replace him, and he's still young as well (27). Just about to enter his prime.

You say they should shake things up because they've had two bad playoff performances in a row, but last year they went to 7 games against Tampa without Crosby and Malkin, and it was Staal that stepped up.

This year Fleury just blew it. Look at the numbers their wingers put up in the playoffs.

Sullivan, Kennedy, Kunitz, Neal, Dupuis, all had 6 points in the series, and Cooke had 4.

Their offense is fine, it's their defense and Goaltending that needs to be better. They need to bring in some veteran leadership to help out Sid.

The one guy though who seems to be invisible on the ice is Greening, for a big body 20 goal scorer he has been know were to be seen. Last year in Bingo he had 5 points in over 20 playoff games, The ONLY place he has had any success this year is on the first line and with Stone and Silverberg coming up and playing I just don’t see where he fits on the roster, he doesn’t play the PK and isn’t getting PP time any more, his role has seemed to diminish greatly

If the salary cap continues to rise they may be able to afford him. I don't know how much money you guys expect him to make on his next contract, he's never even been close to being a point per game player. This season was his most productive with 50 points.

yes he's an awesome player, but being a third line center means that he doesn't have to play against the other teams top shut down players, and he still plays an average of 20+ minutes per game.

I can't see him getting any more than 5.5 mill per season, and that would be an affordable contract for the Pens.

I don't think Pitt's core is going to change all that much this summer. Most of their team is signed for next season as well and the fact they've kept Staal buried on the 3rd line for so many years should keep his cap hit reasonable. I could see them making Crosby's contract more incentive driven due to the injuries, but I'd be very surprised if they moved Fleury or Staal. And if they do move Staal every team should lineup for him, he's a great two way player and likely has more offense to tap once given more opportunities.

Thank you so much Mr. Recording Device. Michalek - Spezza - Silfverberg I read about according to sources? Wow. Can't wait to get home tonight! Is it still too early to jump to conclusion as to how far we can go? Because if not, we'll be drafting 30th overall boys, if you catch my drift!! Go fuckin Sens go!!!!!!

there's only 29 picks in this years first round, NJ lost their pick because of the 1st kovalchuk contract.

MacLean has not confirmed so assume TSN is going with "guy from last game".

Silfverberg has apparently told a Swedish newspaper he's playing with Spezza and Michalek.

Who knows at this point?? maybe we'll see both of them? my guess if alfie's in and there's no other injuries then stone would sit in favor of silfverberg.

Gotta love PM... the man has cohones!
Puts in Stone last game, gets an assist on the game winner.
In comes MVP of SEL, and he throws him right out there. (Although Butler has played better, he is not getting the points)
Alfie comes back = PM wants this win tonight!!!

most coaches would hesitate, but not PM.
Obviously there is something he see in Silfver that he knows he can bring to this series
And do not kid yourselves, bringing back Alfie, and adding some more scoring punch in Silfver will only increase the confidence this team is already displaying

I was at the last OT game 4 win, and will be there again tonight... cant wait
Sen win 3-1 tonight!!!

If the SENS do finish far in this years playoffs after finishing 8th, just remember that we still finished 15th overall this year and will have a decent first round draft pick versus say the PENS or Vancouver.

May be a blessing in disguise!

Going to the game.. can hardly wait. Just get it done Sens.

Very stoked to see Silfverberg play.. but how will he adapt to the smaller ice surface with less manouvering (sp?) room.. He will be hit a lot.. something else he is not used to.

Where I'm more interested to see him is on the PP -- could he make the difference?

Sens please stay out of the penalty box.. you are playing with fire. Hold you emotions when in a scrum.. that's where the refs like to tagged you and ignore the Rangers.

How much will the NHL lose in US viewership if the Rangers don't get out of round one?

Put Stone and Berg in. They need as much experience as possible in the playoffs. Also with Stone and the Berg in that leaves some trading space for the offseason(not that we need it). The sens future looks so bright I have to shield my eyes. Suck it Burke.

PS: For every one that doesn't know Burke and the leafs staff sent out an apology letter to all the ticket holders for how bad this season went. GOOOO SENS GOOOO

Just an observation:
I've been going through a bunch of Rangers forums to see what they had to say about tonight's game. And they have a bunch of posters that say: gotta watch the ref's they'll be biased against us (the rangers), as they want to keep a Canadian team in the playoffs.

There's no need for the whole "conspiracy" thing. I think we can all agree on how horrible the officiating has been, and I don't see it improving anytime soon, but it's been bad across the board. Nobody is "picking" on us, we get good, bad, random calls like everyone else in the league.

Let's just agree that the ref's suck, and move pass this whole idea. :)

If you are watching in HD in Surround Sound, simply disconnect your center speaker and voila, no Bob Cole. You still get all the crowd noise from the suround speakers.

I agree that the officiating is bad everywhere but I just don't want them taking stupid penalties or getting sucked into the after whistles penalties like the one Spezza took after taking a shot...he gives back and the penalty is on him. That kinda stuff irks me.

Don't get me going on how much I hate the league for letting the original "crime" go free, and always calling the "retaliation" penalty...or even the broad topic of the Instigator Rule, I'll end up sounding like Don Cherry...he's a fool, but sometimes he's right.

LET THEM SETTLE IT ON THE ICE!!! That's why I had no qualms about Carkner's fist in Boyle's face. Boyle was grinning like a schoolgirl the whole time he was harassing Karlsson, he deserved what he got...great...y ou got me ranting...lol.. .bugs the crap out of me...apologies to the board.

GO SENS GO!!!

Quoting Floridasensfan:
Alfie back, silverburg in the line up, home ice, opportunity to close out the series.

Stoked for game time.

Just hope NBC plays the game, they have listed the Florida game and Sens Game on the same channel on NHL.com and list TBD on the TV guide as to the teams playing.

Team 1200 or a stream may be my only hope.

NBCsports tonight for the Sens game for all of us Sens fans in the US. The FLA-NJ game is tomorrow.

Just watched a few TV pregame interviews, thanks to Twackle for posting it: http://www.twackle.com/sitebar?url=http%3A%2F%2Ft.co%2FXJeb9biz

Silf seems pretty calm and collected. Says he got in yesterday and spent the evening with EK, I'd say he's probably the best guy to hang with if your trying to find your way before one of the biggest games of your life.

Yup. Although they aren't for waving around like you might think. Tonight they will come in handy and be used once the Sens win, and like the good old Roman Days of Gladitorial fighting, the kids will exit stage right and the remaining fans will break out into a massive orgy!

C'mon....no Spartacus fans out there?

(hiccup) Damn these Godfathers are tasty. Gotta slow down to make it to puck drop at 7pm.

We listen to Bob Cole because my wife will not let me mute him...

I listen to the beginning of Galley's remarks and talk over them...

I cut Healy's mike everytime...som etimes I fantisize that it's his throat...He should simply not be allowed on our broadcasts...he stinks!

We have to start that E-mail campagne again tonight after the series...

Chirps name should be Ernest or Honest John or Jacob...or Chirp...
