The Leafs are coming off back to back weekend losses to the Sabres and the Rangers and will be looking to get back on track against the Sens. Jonas Gustavsson has made the bulk of the start for the Leafs as of late but they’ll go with James Reimer tonight.
The Sens were awful last night on home ice so expect Paul MacLean’s group to come out with a renewed energy. Tonight marks the first of a five game road trip leading up to the NHL All Star Break. Ottawa has picked up at least a point in nine straight road games (5-0-4) heading into the match up with the Leafs.
Last regulation loss on the road came back on December 1 in Dallas.
With a long road trip ahead, Andre Petersson and Mark Borowiecki have both been called up but neither will play tonight. Brian Lee did not travel with the team to Toronto so the Sens want to make sure they have enough healthy bodies on their West Coast swing. MacLean emphasized that both Petersson and Borowiecki will have a chance to play on this trip
No line up changes expected for the Sens tonight though.
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Condra-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-Konopka-Butler
Kuba-Karlsson
Cowen-Gonchar
Phillips-Carkner
Craig Anderson makes another start in the Ottawa goal.Puck drop is scheduled for just after 7:00 PM tonight with all the action available on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
GO SENS GO!
Probably injury insurance.
Boro will draw in to replace Lee.
So Boro will replace Lee ... in the pressbox?
Clearly these guys are deep on the depth chart, but you don't bring guys on a road trip without getting them at least one game (guys you want to keep happy that is, not talking about older guys that are career depth guys).
Looking forward to the game, i`ll be rocking my new Neil jersey north of Toronto, lets hope I empty the bar with victory CHEERS!!
Go Sens GO!
Yep, he is. Kadri and Schenn are both healthy scratches tonight. Leaf Nation is going crazy assuming a deal is close.
Just dont get beat up like those Rangers fans in Philly.....yike s!
Great callups by the team too. I look forward to seeing both Petersson and Boro in the lineup. Butler seems to have found his feet again now, it was nice to see him get a couple of shifts with the skill players.
GO SENS GO!!!
They don't :)
Really?? Wow... Think a Schenn/Kadri for Bobby Ryan is in the works?
What we really need is ME to bet on the Leafs. I single handedly toppled the Saints and Packers this weekend with my wagers.
Chirp the dream destroyer ;)
Haha if I don't get the fun of speculating then NOBODY does.
Early goal really put them in a hole last night. Strong start will be key in this one.
We can't assume Anderson is going to keep us in every game (even though he did again last night) nor can we assume that we'll get out of a difficult situation in the 3rd period just because we have done so many times already.
My expectation of why they will not play tonight is the Leaf game is too important to make changes but a great way to let them get their feet wet with being up with the guys before being thrown into the fire so to speak.
Sure seems like Lee is staying behind to clean out his locker.
It is not like they would let the cat out of the bag.
yea, i think the early goals have put them in quite a few holes this season, yet they have managed to climb out of it more times than not....remember the home game against philly not so long ago when the hole looked like 3-1 Flyers going into the third. I think they were just plain lazy and lax last night and underestimated a banged up wpg team. its probably a higher level of underestimation of wpg than actually being lax.
so long as this team plays a energetic committed game, it will come out on top in more games than not. and we have already seen it this season, the sens record is basically a testament to that.
The official word on Brian Lee is an injury.
how the hell would the leafs get bobby ryan for schen and kadri who are both mediocre players and ryan is a star forward? unless they add 2 first round picks?
i think we would be in on ryan if the price were that cheap.
go sens
The Leafs decide to go with a cold Reimer over Gustavsson, then set Schenn and Kadri as healthy scratches? Burke and Wilson should be drooling over these 2 points, I would have expected something different here, what type of message does that send? Maybe it's a fail-safe, in prep for the arse kicking Ottawa is going to hand them. They can easily turn around and say to the media and disappointed fans, "Well we didn't have these guys in the line up"""... blah blah blah!!!
GO SENS GO!
And just to add to the convo from yesterday about tsn calling Andy, MIKE Anderson when saying that he was chosen as the NHL's first star of the week. They also got Mika Zibanejad's draft position wrong TWICE during the World Juniors. The first time they said he was drafted 9th, then they said 7th! For the biggest sports news network in Canada, that is pretty pathetic.
Schenn & Kadri are the Leafs' equivalent to Cowen & Zibanejad. Now I think both our players are going to be better then their two, but I don't think BM is looking to move that level of prospect.
This is a direct quote from a leafs fan on the TSN facebook page.
...ya I'm pretty sure were gonna see pigs fly before that happens.
i think that fan had a run in the captain if he thinks that is going to happen, or he is just that stupid.
Was he not drafted 6th? I was fairly positive that's where he was picked....
Official word is ok but MaClean called it a boo boo.
Just seems weird.
I am not buying but I have nothing but a feeling about it.
Time will tell if he rejoins the team.
He's a leafs fan. Of course he's stupid.
I try to give them a bit of credit, I work with some pretty intelligent leaf fans, then there is that guy, who ruins the reputation for all the rest. Same as the guy that was on here that has a love in for eric cole, he lurked over at gmhockey.com as well.
He was drafted 6th. Between Strome(5th) and Scheifle(sp?)(7 th)
Oops, meant they said 7th**...maybe I should proofread when I post?
Don't like the idea of Rosehill in the lineup.
I just have a feeling they are going to run Karlsson all night to potentially injure him. That's the only way they feel they can catch the Sens in the standings is to get their best player out of the lineup.
I hope I'm wrong... but I have a real bad feeling about this game...
Go Sens...
Sandy there's nothing to worry about. They have Rosehill and that's as far as it goes. Burke has been preaching truculence for years but take a look at that Leafs roster and the only truculent player they have is Phaneuf. If Rosehill runs around tonight he's going to have to answer to Carks, Neiler, ZeNon And Zack. This is maybe the toughest team we've ever had here in Ottawa.
If last night and the way they reacted to Kane (who isn't a fighter) is any indication, I think a plug like Rosehill would instantly cause the outbreak of World War 3 on the ice, if he were to injure Karlsson...
enough b.s. lets win tonight boys!
i think its probably the other way around with the kind of size and nastiness the sens are weilding through smith, konopka,n eil, carkner and greening. add the fighting capabilities in daugs, foligno and phillips in there and it doesnt look so much fun all of a sudden for an opposing team. hell even alfie gets into it and michalek is no less feisty. if a team can weild a goon line right now....its the sens. smith-neil-kono pka...and yes that line also adds scoring punch plus some decent faceoff prowess.
Don't take this wrong, but I could not disagree more. The Sens were sleep-walking from the puck drop.
When Alfie finally responded to the Karlsson hit, then the rest of the boys followed we actually showed some life. Not enough though until the third period.
If as a defensive corps we keep giving up great scoring chances and turning the puck over you are going to get scored on.
That's one area where the team still needs work. The 3rd period comebacks are great and make for very entertaining and exciting hockey but it would be better if we didn't have to keep doing it.
Yesterday definitely had a "one of those games" vibe to it, we were never in it.
The official word on Brian Lee is an injury.
So Hax, where's my props...
Well for 1, Rosehill would fight back, not like Kane, who is a scorer...
Secondly I think Sandy is still upset at the Domi, Roberts, Tucker Era Leafs, gotta get over that Sandy, geez...
Leafs dont even play that type of game its been about 3 years now. With Kessel, Kulemin, Grabovski, MacArthur, Bozak, Lupul, not much hitting going on there...
There were a lot more than Spezza turning that puck over last night. It was a bad game for everybody except Anderson.
This has nothing to do with Domi, Tucker, etc... Rosehill is a goon. Brown can at least play but he's another loose cannon... Phaneuf will hit you high as he gets away with it... They have some players that will go over the line... and the Sens do as well... But don't think for a minute if the Sens do get up by a few goals and the game gets away for the Leafs that Rosehill does get more than 5 min of ice time. Wilson has to save face...
I hope the tables are turned and the Sens come out pounding and skating hard. The Leafs have a fast team... which the Sens D has a hard time against... Anderson has to be very good tonight.. and I hope they get to Reimer early.
Yeah because even leafs fans admit that they're crazy enough to beat up a sens fan.
6-1 Sens
Props for what?
It was even worse than a 2-0 loss, if it was not for Anderson.
And truth be told he was a huge part of our previous big wins.
What was most disturbing for me last night, was that no one really looked too interested... save for Kyle Turris.
I am not sure but it did not look like they were really involved in that game... and with word that two players were being called up, it should give them all more reason to make sure that they were not the ones to sit out next game... very strange game indeed, glad I was not at that game last night.
But in all due fairness that was one of the very few duds this year at home.
Leaves me a little worried about tonight's game... I hope they come out hard, and do not rely heavily on Anderson.
Its my B-day and would love a win over the laffs as my gift!!!
Go Sens Go
Montreal did exactly the same thing to us the game before.
They clogged up the neutral zone and prevented us from breaking through, kept us to the edge of the blue line (when setting up in their end) and forced us to shoot from crappy angles while blocking most of the attempts.
We were really lucky to escape with THAT win (PRAISE ALFIE!!!).
With that said, you can tell that the Jets team watched the footage against the Habs, made some tweaks/improvem ents (constant puck pressure to force turnovers being one) and capitalized on everything we did wrong. It certainly didn't help that both games we came out flat footed to boot!
Here's hoping to a rejuvenated effort against the losers in blue and white.. Keep Kessel and Bozak off of the puck, drop their goons early, get the puck of our of our end safely, take our time to set up in their zone and SHOOT when we have ACTUAL openings!
My 2 cents anyway.. Go Sens Go!
All valid points for sure.
That's what I was getting at earlier when I said it's actually good to lose when you don't play your best.
I remember early in the 2007-2008 season (I think it was) we won a bunch of games where we actually played like crap and the team developped some bad habits.
It's fine to win a handful of games you shouldn't have since it will balance out the games where you do everything right but lose on a lucky bounce, but in general you want a team (particularly one rebuilding for the future) to have all weaknesses exposed so we can work to correct them.
I couldn't agree more with this... Last night's loss was a while coming... WE got outplayed by the habs and Rangers for some parts of the game... It was probably beneficial that we got stung by the Jets... Hopefully the team can make the necessary adjustments and get back to the simple style that is successful for us.
Nicky played some of the best hockey I've seen him play in a Sens uniform when he was on the second line earlier on, and deserves a bigger role.
OMYGOSH HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!! !
Philips and Carkner ..Slow and slower !!
Replay shows Phillips tipped the puck off course
If Phillips is on the ice fora goal, it's usually his fault JS
LOL
2 games/days in a row, nasty plays result in goals
Well then why the hell are Phillips & Cowen against Kessel & Lupul.
I have a real bad feeling about this game...
FFS! Time for you to get on over to leafschirp.ca.
Praise Alfie !!!
One of the few mistakes Cowen has made this year...I'll give him a Mulligan on that one.
Amen!
sooo sloppy...zero chemistry....
As i type they score!!
Go Andy Go!!!
just ridiculous...we are going to wear him out by the end of the regular season..
We have got to change that on this road trip...especial ly if we want to win against boston....
clearly you dont know anderson. "wear out" doesnt exist in his vocabulary. if it did, he wouldnt have been able to play 71 games then 6 playoff games in the 09-10 campaign.
Greg Millen is the biggest jerkoff that ever called a game.
Just watch the excuses when Ottawa comes back and hangs one on his Leafs ..BTW Foligno won that fight I hope Carkner smokes Rosehill before all is said and done
You're watching the Leafs feed as well? I wish centre ice let you pick the feed, Bowen and Millen are freaking TERRIBLE!!!!!!! !!
Not even missing that "runbald" guy LOL
..but seriously this is getting a way too repetitive and really causing us problems. Phillips is a great guy and he used to be REALLY good but fact is, he's getting man handled out there. Not only tonight, but game in and out. He just isn't fast enough.
trust me I hate saying it but at some Point i needed to accept it.
Nevertheless, these commentators are retarded. Really downgrades the reputation of the league.
I'm watching a feed online...poor quality and I have to listen to these goofs...hah
Go SENS Go
Da woist leed in hakkkey
Ughh? WTF?
Every game I watch, my team loses. Once again, I skip a Sens game and they win.
Sounds like a good win too.
GO SENS GO!
Lol this seems to be the case with you my man. I remember you saying something like this last week and the result was the same.
Sorry you can't tune in, but hey we're winning!
