Sens Host Lightning- McElhinney Starts

The steadily improving Ottawa Senators close out a three home stand tonight when they play host to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Sens are now 6-4-0 in their past ten and sit 28th overall.

Sens fans have closely been monitoring the team's position in the standings and despite their improved play, Ottawa has only managed to move up one spot. If Brian Elliott and the Avs would ever win a game, Ottawa would still be holding that 29th spot.

Colorado has lost six straight and visit the Oilers tonight. The good news is someone has to win that game.

Meanwhile, the Sens will go with the same line up as Thursday against the Devils.

They didn't skate this morning so we won't know the line combos till later in the day. Roman Wick started on the fourth line Thursday but it looked like he took a couple shifts on the Spezza line. Hope Clouston gives him another look up there.

Curtis McElhinney gets the start in the Ottawa goal. Clouston indicated that Anderson could start if he had to but that there is no need to rush him back. McElhinney was quite good against the Devils and likely deserved this start anyway.

There was also an update on injured captain Daniel Alfredsson. Bruce Garrioch indicated that Alfie is still hoping to return at some point this season but no exact timeline was provided.

I have mentioned this in the comment section, but if anyone has a Chirp Of the Week they'd like to see featured on the "Yost Tab"(still patiently waiting for his arrival), this is your chance.

Stone report - Saw Mark Stone play last night in Moose Jaw. First impression - he is a very large man - verrry large. Sees the ice very well - always finds the open man and gets nice passes to them almost without fail. Skating appears laboured. Straight line speed looks OK but he is not the nimblest or quickess player.

I believe we are on the right track and also strongly believe we may be better next year then most people think. I know we are going to be a very young team, but we have a lot of raw talent coming up.

Also right now the guys we have playing are showing a LOT more HEART then before the clean-up which after all I'm extremely happy with.

Go Sens Go

Ottawa Sun Headline "Senators SHOULD acquire Carter"

What's wrong with those guys? who do they think they are?

sens should do this, sens should do that?

what makes them qualified to make these statements? how do they get away with it.

this is an age where bloggers are reluctant to say any team SHOULD do anything, because their ideas will get ripped up by all other posters.

But the Ottawa sun seems to think they know something that we don't.

Idiots.

God, I'm glad I only go to their website to see the SS girl.

Sens need to send Stone for some skating practice. Murray did say at the season ticket holder event the other night.. they will be having some players skating with skating trainers this summer.
So hopefully that helps Stone. If that is all that is missing from his game.. he can be taught techniques to skate harder and faster.

Dear hockey gods;

If there is a three-point with the avs winning tonight, you will be forgiven for the whole "60+ years of the Sens not existing" thing

Sincerely
Me

Just read that Carter article.

The most ridiculous nonesense comes out of those two. Like good grief, JEFF CARTER ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE. He just signed to a new term last season, they're not going to trade their best scorer for goodness sakes!

How can they insinuate bs like that, throwing names around?

I remember in the off season when Brennan said he expected Spezza to put of 100 points this year,,,, SHAKE. MY. HEAD.

Hey Chirp, I know people get tired of hearing this but do you know when they might give Gryba or Weirchioch a few games? I hope Murray gives them a few games just to get their feet wet in NHL this year.

Anybody have any idea?

Anyone find a stream? I'm so desperate, I'm listening to Schriver and Gord on the Team. Ouch.

@ Chirp - I mean this in the nicest way, but you have GOT to do something about this grey on grey business!

The funniest thing about that article is Bruce Hariycock insinuating someone ELSE's ass being fat... also the general sense of importance they all have, coupled with attempt after attempt of failed humour.

Missing the old site because of the higher traffic - it's nice that someone was always ready with a stream link when I asked frantically.

Just wanted to throw out that in a combined 28 games with their new teams, Chris Kelly and Mike Fisher have a COMBINED 6 points.

Maybe we just thought these guys were better than they really are? I mean, how else can anyone explain the sustained improvement our team has seen when we are dressing guys like Lessard? Either way, Kudos for Murray adding multiple draft picks and getting rid of ~6.5M in cap space.

karlsson definitely looked like he was from another league tonight.

gotta love the offensive creativity of this kid.

condra with the game changing breakaway pass to shannon tonight.

also really like that line of folgino, smith, neil, tons of grit and they all like to drive the net.

What a finish!!

Next year is going to be very interesting. Especially for the forwards. Would be hard to justify not having Condra, Greening, Smith and Butler back in the lineup again next year.

Including the players that are currently injured (Alfie, Michalek, Regin), those still under contract (Spezza, Neil, Winchester and Foligno), those we may pick up at the draft who would be ready to play next year (1 perhaps), and I don't know how much of the Free Agent pool we will actually depend on.

Additional players to consider for roster spots next year: Shannon (UFA) and Silfverberg. Wick will spend another year in Bingo and although I like his energy, not sure Svatos will merrit a contract.

All this considered, who would we target in free agency?

Shannon with a shorty. The kid deserves some respect. Condra with a nice pass. The two seem to have some chemistry.

Great comeback from being down 2-0 to one of the best top teams in the league. Tampa seems to run out of energy in almost all of their 3rd periods.

Still some glitches when we change page by having to click 5 times for change to happen.

Also saw a topic titled "Last Minute Contest" last night,
but it disapeared very quickly. Was this to be a Contest to be tied into the Registration in New Site ??
