  • Thank You

Without overstating it, this really was the best season I have had as a fan of the Ottawa Senators.

And while many fans will quickly default to the Stanley Cup run, there was just something about this team that made this lockout shortened season extra special. Cheering for and blogging about the underdog Ottawa Senators team was the most thrilling, unexpected, delightful experience I've had as a sports fan.

Memory Lane- Share Your Sens Videos

The Binghamton Senators are off till Saturday and all seems quiet on the CBA front so I thought we'd try something a little different.

A couple readers have suggested we try this in the past so let’s try it out. The concept is pretty simple- I want you to share videos (From YouTube) of your favourite Sens memories and moments. All you have to do is post the link in the comment section and I’ll add it to this post.

With all the negativity surrounding the NHL these days, I thought it might be nice to take a look back at some happier times. Have at it, folks!

  • For those that missed it yesterday, another Ottawa Senators is headed overseas.  Colin Greening has signed on with the Aalborg Pirates in Denmark.  Greening joins Erik Condra, Kyle Turris, Erik Karlsson, Jason Spezza, Sergei Gonchar, Kaspars Daugavins, and Peter Regin as Senators that have found work during the lockout.

Ha ha ha... love the idea. I've talked about this one once before, but I have to say it again. Chara rag-dolling McCabe is priceless:

The 2D jersey was about a million times classier, and the 3D jersey is such a joke.

It was a cash grab plain and simple, and something I'll never forgive the team for doing. We looked much better in the old ones

Well, the ref turned around and sent hater with corvo for the full 2 minutes. then this happened....

Hey chirp,

what about writing an article like if the nhl started today what would be our lineup.

whats wrong with Ben Bishop? lehner is playing well right now and if the nhl started today i would asume he would get the call to play with anderson as backup until he gets his practice routine going.

at this point i dont see bishop in the nhl if he can't crack the ahl lineup.

lot of young guns would probably replace some fringe players who are out of game shape too.

this could be a circus for a few weeks if a deal does get done in the next few days.

Also why are we using lawson to backup lehner? chevrie looked great in camp... lawson looks horrible and he still was the backup on sunday after his big 6 goal 1/2 game night. bishop is nowhere at the moment.

Lets not be too hard on Lawson after that game, its just one game. and the boys did nothing to help him after a few goals went in.
as for Lehner i think its clear that hes our future tender for the next decade, the kid got skill, fire and determination and WILL be a top 5 goalie in the league one day.

Bishop just signed not long ago to even play in the AHL, let the guy get up to speed before you assume he's fallen off the tracks. He'll still be there with Lehner through most of the remaining season.

Lawson is just not good enough for pro level shooters, but thankfully there'll be better prospects within a year or two to replace him.

Other than Datsyuk & Malkin... let them stay.

As per the IIHF -- they would not be eligible to play in the World Championships or the Olympics if they don't go back to the NHL.

Nobody put a gun to their head to sign those big contracts.. if the loved the KHL so much.. they should have signed there.

Some tweets on lockout:

@DarrenDreger: NHL remains firm, willing to negotiate with the PA by only working off NHL offer tabled last Tues. NHL wants next meeting to be an end pt.

@DarrenDreger: When asked if the CBA negotiation is about to go into a deep freeze, B. Daly said "I suspect so. Back to the drawing board. Unfortunate."

@DarrenDreger: The union has offered to meet, but, unless PA is willing to work off NHL's offer, Daly says there's no reason to meet.

======================================

It doesn't look like there will be an 82 game schedule this season... question is will there be a season at all.

Both sides will realize when this league does get back to playing, the revenue they will be splitting will have dropped significantly and they have no one to blame but themselves.

Greed pure greed. Now let's see how angry the fans really get when talks break off for a very long time.

Yeah it will be a sad situation if the entire 2012/2013 season is lost. We will have seen the last of Alfie and number of other great players. It will also be tough for guys like Phillips and Neil. It will be difficult for them and others like them to come back after a year off and still be as effective as they once were.

It's one thing to train at the gym and casually skate with their teammates during this off time, but they can't keep their skills and minds sharp when they aren't playing competitive hockey somewhere.

@ Sandy,

You have said it all, and this morning in today's Ottawa Citizen, there is a photo of Alfredsson on the ice, with Loui and Hugo (his 2 sons) playing hockey.

Alfie said the longer this stalemate goes on, the less he wants to come back to play.

Someone needs to blink again, or this will never get resolved, and it will last into 2013 ??
Maybe after missing 3 paycheques, the players will revolt,
and push Donald Fehr to settle !!

0 #59 Andrews Theory 2012-10-24 08:47
I'd certainly love it if they started televising bsens games however there's a couple obstacles that likely make it a non starter.

1) there are less people that want to watch AHL hockey so the viewers might not be where they need them

2) a lot of the rinks likely dont meet the needs of a major broadcaster so the picture quality wouldn't live up to their standards.

What might be an interesting option would be to have the baby teams play a few more games at Scotia bank as well as the other teams home ice. They could broadcast those games if they were publicized properly and I'd certainly go se a few.
