With NHL Trade Deadline now less than a week away, the talk around the league continues to build with each passing day.

As both the Eastern and Western Conference continue to sort out the pretenders from the contenders, we begin to get a better idea who the buyers and sellers might be in this year’s trade market. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Senators continue to be situated squarely within deadline limbo, not a buyer but certainly not a seller either.

After four days of rest, the Ottawa Senators came out looking well rested and ready for the stretch drive.

Erik Karlsson scored twice in the opening frame and the Sens dominated this one from start to finish, scoring a convincing 6-0 win over the New York Islanders and picking up a huge two points in their push for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

After a seemingly endless lull in the schedule, the Ottawa Senators are finally back in action this afternoon when they visit John Tavares and New York Islanders.

The Sens will look to carry over the positive momentum gained from convincing wins in Tampa Bay and Florida during the middle of last week.  Jason Spezza racked up 7 points over a two game span and will look to keep rolling on the Island.

Binghamton Senators rookie André Petersson should have been celebrating his teams’ 6-2 victory over the Portland Pirates on Saturday.

Instead, he was answering questions following the release of an interview he did with the Swedish newspaper Sportbladet, earlier this month. The article left the impression he was less than fond of the Binghamton area. The interview was done while the team was on the road in Manchester.

With the Ottawa Senators off on Saturday and Sunday, fans of the Sens have been relegated to the role of scoreboard watchers as things continue to tighten up in the Eastern Conference playoffs race.

Tonight, Sens supporters will be hoping for favours from the Vancouver Canucks, who host the 8th place Maple Leafs and the Tampa Bay Lightning, who welcome the 9th place Washington Capitals.

While the broadcast was as bad as it gets, the Ottawa Senators turned in one of their best performances of the season.

The Senators got another three points from Jason Spezza, offensive contribution from the likes of O'Brien, Daugavins and Butler and another stellar performance by Craig Anderson. The end result was a convincing 6-2 Sens win over the Southeast leading Florida Panthers.

After a huge road win last night in Tampa Bay, the Ottawa Senators are right back at it tonight when they take on the Southeast leading Florida Panthers.

The Sens come into tonight’s action with a one point lead over the Panthers but have played four more games.  We are going to hear it a lot over the next 23 games but this is another huge two points for the Ottawa Senators.

With a light two game schedule facing them this week, the Senators recognized the importance of picking up points to ensure they stay in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.

MacLean's group did exactly that in Tampa Bay tonight, playing a textbook road game and scoring a huge 4-0 win over the Lightning.  With the win, the Sens have 66 points on the season and will play another big game in Florida tomorrow night.

The Ottawa Senators and their fathers have hit the road for a crucial back to back in the state of Florida.
