In 5 years, we'll look back on this season and be happy we had all these injuries. Sounds crazy now, but we have a low-pressure situation where youngsters get way more ice time than they would have if we had no injuries. Should help with their development - and it's the perfect time for it as a franchise. I think these injuries will make us much stronger in the long run (ie next year, the years after that).

Yeah good for Turris but bad for Zib and Silf. The way some people on here talk about them you would think they would have more than 7pts combined... Now people will say "well Tookie, they are rookies and still young". Well so are Yakupov 9pts, Huberdeau 9pts, Galchenyuk 9pts, D. Hamilton 6pts just to name a few who have impacts on their teams. I seriously dont know what we have in Silfverberg and Zibanejad. We can see that they dont completely suck and are obviously not top end talent.

I'm thinking they see him as 3rd line center or top 6 winger. But nothing written in stone since we have a bunch of prospects, some that will work out, others that won't. That sounds about right. But his name has come up in trade talks too, plus we know he was a bit of a consolation pick for Murray after Landeskog and Strome were off the board early. My personal bias: I really like Zibanejad and I think in 4-5 years he will be a very valuable player wherever he is. But where there's smoke there's often fire on trade rumours (Vermette, Foligno, etc)

google is a new invention. It was meant to spark a new conversation. But thanks. Wasn't as simple as Googling "When can NHL teams sign college free agents?", I know that since I have tried. But after lengthy research, I can only assume that the end of the regular season is March 9, or week 23 of 23 - this is the last day for games. I assume that any non-playoff team players finishing their NCAA eligibility can be signed, ideally that would be juniors and seniors. Thanks Nad.

Ian Mendes ‏@ian_mendes MacLean says following changes for tonight: Anderson to start. Benoit in for Lundin. Zibanejad is in for O'Brien. Interesting moves but I like them. JOB has been solid but a game off won't hurt him. Lundin has been invisible (in a good way mostly) but Wiercioch is part of the future so may as well let him stay in. Given that Murray should be planning to trade Lundin at the deadline, I'm a bit surprised he's scratched but it's not like we'd get much for him anyway. A team may give us a late pick to add depth on their blue line, but that's about it.

I think there are two scenarios, small trades for 2nd and 3rd round picks or a blockbuster type deal for an elite player who will be able to help us for years to come. However I think either way nothing will happen until much nearer the deadline (unless somebody comes in with an absolutely ridiculous offer for Bishop or Anderson). As much as I don't think the Senators are thinking of tanking it doesn't make much sense to bring in a Perry or a Weiss or an O'Reilly at this point in time. Not with such a solid group of draft prospects. There's no tanking required for this team, we have all seen how much we have struggled since Karlsson got injured and with all of the other problems. Even trying our hardest and letting the season play out we will probably be pushed out of the playoffs anyway. As hard as it is to take, this is probably the best season to have these sort of problems.

BUT... if Murray really wants to make a splash for next year and the years to come, trade for Perry! SENS have the assets to make that trade happen.
Also on the win, thats great! Down 1-0 I was sure it was over, another 0 goal game...BUT NO! Alfie saves the day. Game was extremely boring and tough to watch, these types of games will become more and more our style as we try and stay in the playoff picture. I mean we cant score so we put all of our eggs on DEF whch we can play very well. Waiting for a mistake or capitalize on our chances like Alfie did. Winnin vs those lesser teams early in the season is really paying off, get points when u can, in the end, playoffs are usually decided by 2-3 points!

10. Senators general manager Bryan Murray made it very clear he's not going to make any rush trades to save his team in the short term. It's a smart move. Those are always the deals GMs come to regret. He'll do a fifth-rounder, like the Los Angeles Kings did for Keaton Ellerbe. But he isn't dealing any core parts for a quick fix. 11. Do you remember when Murray took heat for signing goaltender Craig Anderson to a four-year, $12.75-million extension? Now that contract looks beautiful. I joked with him last week that some GMs said he could get half a team for Anderson. Murray laughed and said, "Tell those guys to call me." If he ever seriously decided to do it, Ottawa would get a lot in return. From Elliot Freedman 30 thoughts this morning.

I know I just said I don't want to see any trades. But I'm jut curious what other people think about this. Is Jiri Hudler > Michalek(health y)? Would this be ridiculous since Calgary needs goaltending help, Bishop and Michalek for Hudler and maybe a prospect or just Hudler alone. Again I really would prefer to see no trades at this point, just an idea that popped in my head that's all. What do you all think?

I can't see Bryan trading either one. Zibanejad wasn't great the last few games but he's showing signs of the early first round pick that he is. I think he'll be solid. As for Bishop - I do think Murray will be a bit anxious until he plays again. If Bishop's next game is anything like his first game of the year his stock will drop a lot. But in general it's too early to trade him unless some team makes a huge offer. His value will be highest closer to the deadline, at which time we can call up Lehner for the remainder of the season (poor Bingo). I'm also expecting our junior players to end up in Bingo or even Ottawa after the junior season is over.

google is a new invention.

Strait has been a great pick up for them since being claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh, who has shed 3 players for next to nothing, including 2nd rnd pick Tangradi who was traded to WIN for a 7th rnd pick. Solid pick up for the Jets. Physical, potential scoring threat with leadership (former Bulls captain). I may be one of the few that wishes for a turn around of the Isles.
Most of us are excited for this win today. Why not? A team decimated by key long term injuries to some of it's better players beats a team with a world-class goaltender and a team near the top of the Eastern Conference. Of course, we are happy. Yes they lost to the Leafs on Sat. Leafs scored on two deflected goals and an empty net goal. In that game 3 of the young guys played in their first NHL game.. I'm sure there were nerves. Question is, can we beat the Leafs at SBP on Saturday.. and will enough Sens fans show up to drown out the Leaf fans. I curse HNIC probably for demanding Leaf games on Saturday nights. If it was a game against them through the week... the fans from Toronto could not attend. Good win boys...keep it going for tomorrow.

Before today's 3rd period, the Sens were almost unwatchable for the previous 6 periods, from an entertainment point of view. The win was a huge one, but I'm not looking forward to two more months of Zack Smith dumping and chasing the puck. I also feel it could be dangerous to play Aflie that much on a nightly basis. Every shift without Karlsson out there reminds us just what a difference maker he was..

I noticed a couple of plays that were definite penalties for NJ that were overlooked. An interference play on Smith.. Gryba was called for a much less infraction on a similar play. That slash in OT -- can't remember who it was on for the Sens. Both of those plays were in full view of the refs... I thought the refs were going to call everything regardless as to when in the game it was or playoff game or not. Another untruth... or downright incompetence. But a great win.. hopefully to continue tomorrow against the Isles... who lost 7-0 today to Philly. They won't be in a good mood. BTW -- Carkner was not in the lineup today for the Isles. Is he hurt or a scratch? Another FYI -- Konopka was a healthy scratch in the Wild/Wings game last night.
