Only 2 games back to back but could be an interesting 2 weeks with big impact on final standings/playo ff seed. Good news with schedule is furthest trip then is Florida double. No Sportsnet coverage or just not announced yet? Ok, getting ahead of myself...gonna be fun. Good to be back.

the only reason i could see, is if they are getting people they feel can help them long term. if they don't feel pavalec is the answer, or can't handle a full season, they may require a goalie. if they can get some more scoring so its not just on kane/little and a few others chipping in, then great. They have enstrom and byfuglien, neither of which are going anywhere. So for me, its not a matter of them wanting to move bogosian, its a matter of, thats what other teams will be inquiring about, and someone they could possibly live without. and if they keep not making the playoffs and not moving up in the standings every year, you have to give something to get something. Bogosian could fill a few roles they want filled. I doubt they are in any way or form, shopping him, however.

I agree the sens have a few decent offensive D, and karlsson is in a league of his own. But in building long term, if he's available, at anything close to fair value, you take it, as he is the right age to contend with the current group of talent coming through the system. Well liked players can be traded, especially if the team is always either on the cusp of making the playoffs, or perennial basement dwellers. Remember our firesale? Fisher and Kelly were well liked players. At the right price, players can be had if it benefits the team long term. As for protecting against the rangers and crosby's line and giroux's line. I am more worried about a slow moving big D not being able to contain those types of players. I'd rather have a puck moving D that can steal the puck, win the races, and pass it back out of the zone before the elite talents set up in our end. But i'm a pure offensive Bias. Not saying the big bruisers don't have a place, and can be very effective. But the best defense, is not even having the puck in your end.

Offensive defensemen are great. Sens have the best in Karlsson and a good one for the future in Ceci.. then you have Wiercioch. Benoit in the short term as well. Sens have defensive D in Cowen, Bo -- but need another one. Methot -- we will see how he does this year. He can't be defensively worse than Kuba, right? But he will be offensively worse. Question is -- what D do you put out when you will have Gaborik-Richard s-Nash -- or Crosby's line in Pitts -- or Giroux's line with Philly? I guess it will have to be defense by committee...

yeah, i heard that. its not an ideal trade for right now, but i believe pays bigger dividends over the long run. Make the trade now while he's "available", which of course no one has really confirmed, and battle it out to see what we currently have in the prospect cupboard otherwise. If our season suffers, o well, we suffered through the shortest possible season and we draft someone great to fill our now figured out weaknesses. Then have a more quality roster going into next year, and still have tons of cap space!

Comparable stats for bogosian vs. hjalmarsson. 4yrs vs 5yrs 89pts vs 46pts in an offense first system built by maclean, i prefer the D that gets 2x the points in less time, with much less prolific scorers in front of him. Kovalchuk for a year or 2, vs. toews, kane, sharp, hossa, and on and on. to have only racked up 46 pts with all those players, warrants a bit of a red flag for the offensive system ottawa is embracing. can you tell i prefer bogosian?lol

according to jaeckel over at hockeybuzz (i know i know) sens have called about availability on D. Obvious targets being Nick Leddy and Hjalmarsson. Chicago interested in goalies, ESPECIALLY lehner. I know all fans will agree lehner is off the table. If its a goalie they want, its bishop only, and i would only go an even one to one swap for either or. Preference to leddy simply because he's younger and has a little more room to improve. I feel hjalmarsson has been a little over inflated after his cup run, and consequent signing with SJ i believe it was? Only to have chicago match and keep him around. I think 1 to 1 is as high as i would go on that route. Instead save bishop for a higher trade later on, or near the deadline, and use our current D in the system for now. But i'm still all for Bogosian trades above

One thing about Kane is he is the perfect player for Paul Maclean's system. This guys speed is absolutely elite and he is a true finisher. Not only is he a guy that would be perfect under our coach, he is also perfect for our best forward. Spezza plays a very creative style game where he pulls stuff in the ice that pretty much nobody expects. That's why he and Heatley were so dynamic. Heatley was very willing to try stuff out there and actually expected the unexpected from Spezza. Kane, I believe also has that side to his game. It's a certain cockiness that is very much needed to become an elite player or elite athlete is just about any sport. You see that from when he played with Wellwood in Winnipeg. Wellwood isn't very good but has absolute sick hands and essentially thinks he can pull off anything, similar to our boy Spezza. Spezza however in the past couple years has learned when and when not to try these things. Plus he's abviously on another level than Wellwood. So I believe Kane could be a consistent 30 goal guy with us and on occasion pot 40 or 50. It's just a matter of wether he's considered an untouchable in Winnipeg

But we also have to admit that there are quite a few prospects in Binghamton that should play in the top 6 (eventually) in Ottawa.. when there may not be room.
very true. a staight 2nd 3rd and 6th pick wouldn't be close to get a 3rd overall. currently i would consider them both a 9-15th selection of a 1st round pick, calibre player. taking that into account, 2 mid level 1sts and a 3rd, for a high 1st and a 4th. Its close to even and acceptable for both sides if you look at it that way. however, bogosian is a more proven player at this point, whereas neither stone nor bishop have played even half a season in the NHL. Stone doesn't even have half a season in the A. My point is that although its close to fair on paper, the risk may be too large for winnipeg to accept, even if both sides could win the deal. If stone turned out a good solid 2nd line scorer, and bishop a sizeable starter, and we get a top defender. Both sides would be better off, but its a large chance to take.

I know that Evander has worn out his welcome in Winnipeg through some off-ice shenanigans. I'm pretty sure they have a lot of those type of guys. What I've noticed the past few years is Murray likes to make trades for players that just aren't in the best situation anymore in terms of the team they're on. (Turris and Filatov are good ex) Some times it works out and some times it doesn't but the point is Murray manages to get excellent talent at way under actual value. I think it's a brilliant strategy for a GM. Buy low, sell high You can add Anderson, Bishop as well as Lat's at this point, but Lat's needs to prove the value. And from a minor league side he did Jessieman a favour and that's paying off.
