Goalie Decisions Loom

In a year where injuries have ravaged the Ottawa Senators line up, the team has managed to stay afloat thanks to lights out goaltending from the three headed monster in the crease.

Before his injury, Craig Anderson was on his way to a Vezina type season.  Since he’s gone down, both Ben Bishop (2.62 GAA, .921 save %) and Robin Lehner (1.92 GAA, .944 save %) have done an outstanding job making big stops for this hockey team and keeping them right in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Game Day- Lehner Starts vs Bruins

After a dramatic comeback against the New York Islanders on Tuesday night, the Ottawa Senators look to carry that momentum over on home ice.

The Sens have posted an extremely impressive 10-1-3 record at Scotiabank Place this season and will be hoping for more of the same as they begin a stretch that will see them play five straight games on home ice.  It starts tonight as the Senators go toe to toe with the Boston Bruins.

Methot Could Play Tomorrow

On the heels of an impressive come from behind win over the New York Islanders, the Senators were back on the ice for practice this afternoon.

And while a handful of veterans sat out the brief skate, there were a couple bits of info passed along by Head Coach Paul MacLean afterwards.  The first is the somewhat surprising news that Marc Methot may be available to play tomorrow against the Bruins.

Gonchar, Pesky Sens Do it Again

At this point in the season, nothing should surprise you when it comes to the Ottawa Senators.

Facing a 3-1 deficit after forty minutes, and with another key player lost to injury, the Ottawa Senators completely turned this game on its head. Silfverberg, Smith, Gonchar and Latendresse scored third period goals and the Sens completed a ferocious third period rally, upending the New York Islanders by a 5-3 final.

Game Day- Sens on the Island

On the heels of an impressive weekend where they registered wins over the Buffalo Sabres and the Winnipeg Jets, the Ottawa Senators look to continue their strong play when visit the Islanders tonight in Long Island.

The Sens come into the game holding down the 5th spot in the Eastern Conference which has them 7 points clear of the New York Islanders, who currently find themselves in 9th place and on the playoff bubble in the East.  Needless to say but another huge two points on the line tonight.

Perry Staying in Anaheim

Not exactly Ottawa Senators news but considering some of the discussion around here lately, this is news worth passing along.

According to Kevin Weekes and the NHL Network, the Anaheim Ducks are close to finalizing an agreement with UFA to be Corey Perry.  The deal will see Perry earn the same as team captain, Ryan Getzlaf who signed his 8 year/$66 million dollar deal ten days ago.

Sens Close Out Perfect Weekend

With the Eastern Conference standings as tight as they are, a four point weekend is exactly what the Ottawa Senators needed.

Robin Lehner stopped 25 of 26 shots, Daniel Alfredsson had two assists, Jakob Silfverberg scored twice and the Senators finally played a game that wasn't decided by a single goal as they cruised to a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

Game Day- Sens on St. Patrick's Day

After a big win in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon the Sens return home for a St Patty's Day date with the Winnipeg Jets.

Coming into Sunday, the Sens are just two points clear of the Jets but because Winnipeg leads their division, they hold third place in the Eastern Conference. Two huge points on the line at SBP.

Follow the Leaders

When stars in Spezza, Karlsson, Anderson, and Michalek went down to injury, and with Cowen already on the shelf, experts across the National Hockey League were quick to write off the Ottawa Senators.

Without their top centre, top defenceman, leading goal scorer and starting goalie, how could the Senators possibly stay competitive in the lockout shortened season?  While it would be easy to point to the outstanding goaltending (obviously a huge part), you can’t overlook the job this team’s leadership group has done under incredible adversity.

Ottawa Signs Defenceman Michael Sdao

The Ottawa Senators announced another signing this morning, inking Princeton defenceman Michael Sdao to an entry level contract.

Drafted in the 7th round back in 2009 by the Senators, Sdao just wrapped up his final season at Princeton, picking up 15 points in 31 games.  The big, physical defenceman, who's not afraid to drop the gloves, will join the Binghamton Senators on an amateur tryout agreement.
