Game Day- Sens on St. Patrick's Day

After a big win in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon the Sens return home for a St Patty's Day date with the Winnipeg Jets.

Coming into Sunday, the Sens are just two points clear of the Jets but because Winnipeg leads their division, they hold third place in the Eastern Conference. Two huge points on the line at SBP.

Just a quick Game Day post for now as I'm still on the road in Montreal. Will have a more detailed post after this evening's contest. With the early start no morning skate scheduled for the Senators. Paul MacLean will speak with the media at 2:30 PM to pass along any lineup changes

Hope you're all enjoying St. Patrick's Day and a reminder that if you're headed to the game today, puck drop us just after 5:00 PM.

GO SENS GO!

I've heard both Pomminville ($5.4M 2014) and Roy ($5.4m 2013) may be available at the trade deadline - either would look sweet in a SENS uniform - couple of hometown boys that have historically killed Ottawa

I'm pretty sure that Pominville is American. I don't think he's local. IMO it would be a waste of a trade for either of those guys. They're both not the same players they used to be.

I don't think either one of them will be available....

they r actively trying to re-sign Roy in Dallas and Pomm is the captain in Bufalo, consistently good and the undisputed leader of that team.

If you're going to go out and try and get a $5M winger, why not take a stab at Havlat (SJS), I'm sure SJS would love to dump his salary, he's been a disappointment since joining them.

They could use the cap space as well. He sure played well alongside Spezza and can produce well in the palyoffs. Would look great as a top 6 with Spezza, Turris, Alfie, Silverberg and Michalek. Definitely would add some much needed offence if he could stay healthy.

Roy's history of diving doesn't sit well with me. Hard to respect a player of that ilk.

I think Kassian should play more than 03:21..he's a big body that can do some huge hits. I think he should play at least 5 mins

and btw Havlat has a lower body injury, and is on the injured reserve

-2 #9 Mark 2013-03-17 14:11
My bad - thought Pominville was from the area - and i just heard both their names come up today - who knows - I can't see Buffalo trading into their own conference so even if they move JP i cant see him landing in Ottawa. Regardless, Roy would be a nice pick up - it would cost Eugene around $900K and the team a 2nd round pick (and prospect?) and I know for a fact he's "hometown"

Chirp, any news on Spezza and how his rehab is going along? also, have you heard anything about J-Bo and Ottawa or perhaps another forward?

Thanks Chirp.

I really like Mach9 -- but can he stay healthy. For the most part he hasn't had a bad shoulder injury in a few seasons.. but this guy can't stay healthy.

And yes, he would look great with Spezza...

Pominville has dual citizenship

pominville is more of a 2nd line winger on a cup contending team. not really what the sens are after

Sign Sustr, then purge some bodies for a quality top 6 forward or some picks.

It's quite simple. We have got very used in the past 18 months to still being in games thanks to our goaltending.

Now we are seeing the opposition having to excel to prevent the sens from taking a 3 or 4 goal 1st period lead.

If you need further explanation as to why that's a nice change or actually believe that I would rather watch the opposition goal tender play brilliantly than letting the pucks in then the help you need isn't to be found here.

Worst post of the day! Lol

Also just would to say to the people on here who were saying it would be a bad idea to add a tough guy to the team. Well if you were watching, you would see that after Regin hit Little if Kassian wasnt on the ice he wouldve been jumped by Wheeler and forced to fight and possibly injured... In which could change the momentum of the game

GO SENS GO!

Gonchar is amazing. When do you see a 38 year old be this productive.

Turris is also noticeably more confident now. He's skating very well and stick handling to create great opportunities for his line mates. Seems to have his head up looking for plays while being very patient.

This team is coached very well. I love the system he uses for all the aspects of the game. The forechecking is one of the most effective in the league. Also the way they break out of their own zone is amazing. They don't linger, they usually make one pass from d-man to d-man then its up to the open forward and out of the zone (and this is without Karlsson). Also the PP is looking much better now

Listening to Gord Wilson earlier today speaking about Anderson, the impression that I got was that either the Sens don't want him disclosing anything on this topic or the recovery is not going well. Neither gives me warm & fuzzies.

Also...

Is it just me or are the sens playing Lehner as if he's the #1 goalie?

Yes Anderson is injured and this will be over with once he's back but it's interesting seeing how the coach is playing him. It's almost like its a test to see if he can handle the pressure of being an NHL starter. The coach always preached consistency and Lehner is clearly showing he can provide that

But I AM liking his "round mound of rebound" presence in front of the net since his recent return to the lineup.

I find with Latendrese in the lineup were able to create wayyy more offense. He's not the greatest player but he's very nifty and has balls to try stuff. Also he's a big dude whose willing to hit.

I've also noticed Silfverberg is starting to get better at getting his shots through. He used to get like 90% of his shots blocked or tipped. Was actually very annoying and you could tell he was getting frustrated. But now he takes more open shots and when he's got a player between him and the net he's able to sneak it through. I like the progression in his game
