It has been a bit of an up and down start for the Flyers who are showing signs of turnings things around with Scott Hartnell back in the line up.
Claude Giroux is riding a six points game streak (4 G 8 A) and Jakub Voracek, leads the team in scoring with 24 pts in 22 games. That trio will give the Sens all they can handle this afternoon. Philly has won 4 of 6 and have scored a ton over that stretch.
Meanwhile the Senators continue to find ways to stay competitive despite missing some of their top players.
Ottawa has picked up at least a point in six straight and come into the afternoon affair with a six point lead on the Flyers in the Eastern Conference. With that said, the Senators are going to need to start scoring goals at some point. Ottawa is 27th in the league in goals scored and sure could use one from Kyle Turris or Zack Smith at some point.
No morning skate for the Sens today but yesterday MacLean indicated that Mike Lundin will draw back into the line up in the place of Andre Benoit. Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.
Silfverberg-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Zibanejad-Condra
Dziurzynski-Smith-Neil
Daugavins-Regin-O'Brien
Methot-Gryba
Wiercioch-Gonchar
Lundin-Phillips
Ben Bishop gets the start in the Ottawa goal while the Flyers are expected to go with the always entertaining Ilya Bryzgalov.
Puck drop is scheduled for just after 12:00 PM with the game available on Sportsnet and on the radio at the Team 1200.
Hopefully the Sens can at least grab another point in this one.
Prediction: 4-3 Sens! Goals by Alfie, Turris, Phillips, and Zibanejad!
Im getting day-time drunk for this one
go sens!!
GO SENS HOMESLICES!
TOOKIE100% OUT!
Good plan! But you still must stay alert for the Mtl/Pit later this evening. Great day of hockey ahead!
See ya Bishop!!!!!!!!! !
LMAO
"Breakfast at Wimbledon" anyone?
I believe the term is "day drunk"
But yes, sounds like an excellent plan!
Da da da da da daaaaa, da da da da da dadaaaa
he hasn't exactly been set up for success...
Centering the top line with a rookie and a 41 year old when he was a 3rd line Ctr last year.. Expectations need to be tapered.
Everyone got carried away by his start when he was facing weaker opposition.
I agree. Turris is a very good 2C. Because of injuries PMac has had to suffle everybody around and make Turris a 1C in Spezza's spot. Our entire team including Turris and PMac are doing a terrific job with mostly BSens team. Love these guys!!!!
go Sens go!
That better be a massive suspension he was 2 feet off the ground
Every nigh it's just disgusting to watch! Team needs to hire a new coach to take care of this. It's pretty embarrassing really
Been a decent game so far.
I don't care who you're missing. It's all NHL players out there. They should be able to enter the zone and maintain possession while creating chances. It is 5 on 4 after all
Creating more chances 5 on 5 than on the PP is a tad embarrassing
Yeah well, they're not doing what you'd want for them to do. What are you gonna do? And I think you should care who we're missing. Because ever since we were missing them, there hasn't been much production on the powerplay. Even you can't deny that.
http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/172284/1/watch-ottawa-senators-vs-philadelphia-flyers.html
I can understand not scoring on the PP like we used to. However the way we can't enter the zone is flat out embarrassing. It's really sad to see every single pass miss.
All I ask is them to actually look like a PP
His little stutter steps are fooling everyone
It's going to look like this for a while bud. We just have to find solutions to channel our frustrations, as much as it's painful to watch.
Don't blink! That lines been straight up swarming
Thank goodness for spell check hahahahabah
Or maybe my vision is a little blurred
The guys just have such a hard time hitting the net
I think I'm gonna give it a 5 game stretch and see how badly or how well we will play. I guarantee the draft discussions will come up if we don't start winning games.
How 'bout them giveaways?
But it's just one game guys, not the end of the world

We make the playoffs, AMAZING, if not that's fine given the circumstances. Next year is where we make a big impact. But we have been working 100% so you can't say they aren't working
Not to bust your nuts, but weren't you a prominent poster of the "tank" variety?
+1.
The Sens don't have a ton of skill at the moment, and there have been some terrible giveaways this game. The team is having a rough game but I like their chippiness... What's wrong with that?
And they haven't lost the game... There's 5mins left in the 2nd!
Can you imagine if it wasn,t Lundin that got run over, but Turris or Alfie?
The hockey you are watching right now is tame compared to what is allowed in the playoffs, and we are not prepared.
If you think we are tough enough you are fooling yourself, and our young talent may end up paying the price
I also said that every time they play I am cheering and hoping for a win.
Completely different, am I happy with the way the season has gone in the face of adversity....of course.
I also said that anyone that thinks having Mackninnon (or someone similar) on our team wouldn't be a positive is nuts.
I didn't realize intelligent people still used the "r" word
I work with people with intellectual disabilities and they are the kindest, most forgiving people in the world.
To use this word is a disgrace to yourself and them
C'mon man we don't need to call people out on a blog for stuff like that. I'm sure he didn't mean any offense by it.
I think he means that he forgot how fucked up people get around here. Retarded being of how crazy/ mental/ fucked up is.
ie: I forgot how fuckin screwed up people can get when we don't win.
ie: I forgot how fuckin mental people can get when we don't win.
Hahaha OK there chief....you're the only one bringing people with disabilities into the discussion.
OHH NOOOO I said Chief....Now I am offending all native Americans.
Better than Glenn Healy
We have no business being in the game but both tenders let in softies.
We can even clear our own zone, nobody is hitting, nobody can put a pass together and nobody can skate with the puck. Sloppy, sloppy and our PP is embarrassing.
Decent games but Methot, Regin, Smith and JOB but everyone else not so much.
Why do I feel like we are going to steal another one here?
God I hate Healy
Really?
Because it's a blog we should allow hurtful remarks about a minority group that have no control over their disability?
Maybe its just me
I agree.
we are down to 5 D-men, while missing two of our would be slam-dunk regulars on D for the full season already. its not that surprising.
The Phillips-Goncha r pairing is always one that gets torched and its back together due to Lundin's injury. As much as it sucks to see someone get injured, this should pretty much take the option of playing Lundin again and make it an easy decision always between Benoit and Borocop.
Looks like it
Lets just drop it. People should watch their language. Grow up
If somebuddy called a mentally disabled person a "retard" I would personally punch them in the head.
Using the word out of context, on a blog, talking about sports.. chillax man.
I was doing to call Healy a dyke but I don't want to upset anyone. Delta Bravo - is that ok?
Son of a bitch...just go for it.
Wait...sorry if there are any sons or ladies here...Didn't mean to piss either group off.
Bob Cole.
Who said Bob Cole?
Don't get me started about how bad he is on Sens broadcasts...
omg defensive liability.
NO NO NON O NO NON
not to mention 4.5 for what he actually brings on the ice i.e. tons of bad penalties and bad pinches.
I'm probably going to have to give you the biggest no I have ever given
Adjective
Less advanced, esp. mentally, than is usual for one's age.
Synonyms
backward - delayed
Obviously they're better than Healy but they are still painful to listen to. I compare Dean and Denis to those two dummies that do the play by play and color for EA NHL franchise lol
i play NHL13 on mute, cant tolerate those morons...
You used retarded as an adjective to describe people.
If you think that is ok, that is your problem not mine. Nothing like posting on a public blog what type of person you are.
You can actually turn the commentary volume off without muting the game entirely.
NOT in the budget
Are you seriously insinuating he's a bad person because he said retarded on a sports blog? That's retarded
He's Gryba for 4.5 mil
You used retarded as an adjective to describe people.
If you think that is ok, that is your problem not mine. Nothing like posting on a public blog what type of person you are.
:)
I will stop this now...someone obviously shit all over your cornflakes this morning.
Enjoy the game
(actually I will add....the likelihood of me meeting 99% of the people on this blog is about zero...so frankly couldn't give two shits what your opinion of me is)
we saw a combination of Methot and Gryba out on the PP.......just atrocious. sens coaching and management know better than this. silly mental mistake.
Yeah that was annoying...I think he is still adjusting(obvio usly) I anticipate we will see a completely different player next season.
It is definitely heading that way...I love Philly games.
And the Sens are buying
Chris Phillips was a 1st.
LOL
Yeah, in 1996. Let's see if you are still the same guy in 17 years. He's still got value.
Nashville, Devils, Yotes, Blues, Bruins are all somewhat low scoring teams that play a tight defensive game and are good at it... The goals will come, but it's great that these guys are learning solid D.
Also, last I checked, the defensive-minde d Kings won the Cup... I don't see the problem...
Sens beat themselves.
Turris hasn't done shit since he got here. I was never sold on him. Everyone praises his OT goal last year and while it was a nice one, he's not doing shit now. He can't finish and notice how he doesn't get any time in the pressbox. He's never even been demoted to the 3rd line, like it's some sort of punishment.
They can't score more than 2 or 3 a game. You think low scoring games gets you where you want to be? How many games can we go scoring a goal per night?
usually I ignore such ridiculous posts, but Are you absolutely serious? -Do you know why we were winning the previous 5 games? because of the defensive plays and hard minutes that zack smith plays. He makes it easier for guys like condra, greening , zibby , silf.
Dude, you wouldn't be saying all this if we were winning... So relax. he's not a jug head. Don't expect stone and or pince to make the sacrifices smith has to make
Haha drinks on me buddy.
I'd be down for that.
Honestly. Its insulting as a fan that he hasnt done anything to help us
Gagne for a fourth? How easy would that have been (just an example)
STONE HANDS! I like the other stuff he brings but my god....scoring don't expect it.
Any other player that's a goal
Smith can't buy one....he should try scoring with something other than his stick apparently
I didn't realize how close it was live.
so frickin sad to watch!!!!!!
Try telling that to the homers who think we could even survive in the first round if we even make the playoffs with the team we currently have.
Wait, who the hell are you?
She's just a rookie troll. Got a long way to go to get to the level of Tookie and zipzapsuck.
Yeah, really.
The puck was bouncing and it was well over his stick...i wouldnt say he missed an open net...
I lol'd, lol.
?
Apparently, proof reading is dmmies
BEST POST OF THE DAY!
He is awesome. Pleasant surprise of the year hands down. Glad we have him signed two seasons after this, and if he keeps this up I hope we keep him in our long term plans. So far so great.
Did you see the wobble on that mother though? Dickey couldn't do that...
Turris too.
So true. I liked the fact that they didn't give up when they were down by 2, or when Alfie got ejected. Can't wait for a healthy roster.
Oh no doubt...it wasn't an easy goal by any means.
I would love to know why we had Smith and Neil out to end the game though...seemed like an odd choice.
I thought both of the penalties on Smith we're fucking horrible calls by the ref. How he managed to be the only one to get a penalty in front of the bench I have no idea. He gave Rinaldo one shove.
I really don't see how Alfie ended up with a 5min for that cross check either, it didn't look like it deserved it. If he ends up with a suspension i'd be pretty upset.
Chris Phillips needs to grow a set and stand up for himself. Alfie comes in to stand up for him and then Fedotenko starts giving it to Phillips against the boards and he doesn't fight back at all. Stop being a pussy, especially when your captain is in there trying to stand up for you.
It's only gonna get worse, ese. Listen to Team 1200 right now. It's the same version of the board at the moment, just verbal.
To watch us frustrate the shit out of them on that 5 minute PP that included 2 mins worth of 5 on 3? At least we hit a few high spots today.
Bishop was rock solid yet again.
YES.
Add to the fact he is supposed to be leading BY example with veteran leadership? Wake the hell up Phillips!
haha ok troll.
lol wtf is with all of these ridiculous posts. how are they throwing the season because they've lost 2 in a row...one against the best team in the east. Both by 1 goal! ridiculous.
Its way too late...they would pretty much have to lose every single game at this point to even have a shot at making it worthwhile and no way in hell any of these guys agree to it.
Wanting anything bad to happen to Alfie is against the law on this board. I guarantee it will not settle well with the rest of the peeps here.
he's just a troll...no point talking about it.
He has played less than 10 NHL games. Come on... it takes time for defensemen to develop in the NHL. Rookie players make mistakes.. especially on a team missing so much out of their lineup.
Yesssssss Tookie
Yeah Mark Stone can be the shit. Don't forget emergency call ups if lockout ended according to TSN: Ceci & Noesen!
I realize you are a Sens fan so I'll be levelheaded about this.
That 'rumor' is obviously pretty dumb.
We are 5-1-1 the past seven games and while missing all our key players. Both backups when called upon have been lights out.
If we were going to make moves that would probably help the team finish *lower* this season we would have done that long ago. Whoever else said it is 'too late' is right.
And this is coming from a guy who suggested it 'might' be a smart time to deal Anderson back when Spezz and EK65 went down. I am still not opposed to dealing Anderson for the right price either. You can argue that is would be stupid to ever trade away the best goalie in the league or you could argue we have 3 great ones and the future is now so sell high!
I can't wait for Stone to get his shot but... I think at least a week of conditioning in Bingo would be wise then see where his performance is at. We could use an injection of something at this point though!
Saw the Lundin hit that was suspension worthy.
Now I didn't see the Alfie hit on Rinaldo. Was it a retaliation or was it just frustration. Was Rinaldo hurt on the play?
What happened to Regin?
What a fucking fickle fan base in Ottawa. Last week this team was the best now they lose a game and they are picked apart? Turris, Smith stink. The rookies are awful they make too many mistakes. Gee imagine rookies making mistakes. It's downright disgusting to me.
What to pick apart on this team is the PP. Cameron is in charge of that IMO he is doing an awful job.
Guys this team wasn't going to keep on winning & winning with what they are missing in the lineup.
Other teams shut down Alfie, Turris & Silfverberg & you don't have much else. The opposition knows this.
You can't win many games when you can't score.. There is no scoring depth left they are all injured.
+1 with an assist and 2 shots so far today!
And about the goalies...that is one decision I am ecstatic I don't have to make...I am not sure that there is a right or wrong move....but no matter what Murray does he will be scrutinized to no end.
=========================================
Who gives a crap what the word is around Toronto -- they know nothing on what is going on inside the Sens organization. They should just concern themselves with the Centre of the Hockey Universe.
Smartest thing I've heard all day Sandy, I'm embarrassed for Ottawa sometimes.
Regin just took a shot to the foot but came back later in the game.
This team is young and when they want they play pretty high energy. We just need a ~5% course correction on numerous fronts, from hitting to toughness to shot quickness to zone clearing.
Glad to see you are feisty today!
Amen.
Sure go ahead and callup Ceci & Noesen.. who both haven't played competitive games in pro hockey anywhere. It's not like they won't get trashed like the rest of the rookies currently in the Sens lineup at forward or on defense.
Feisty yes... 1. I missed the 2nd & 3rd periods today.. and 2. I'm pissed with some of the comments on this site today in regards to this young and INEXPERIENCED team who didn't get a point in a game today for the first time in 6 games. They are happy comments when the team wins.. but they rip the team apart when they lose.
And I echo your points 100%
Phillips needed to beat the shit out of Fedetenko and instead he kept saying please stop punching me in he face.
Alfie and Daug were really the only two players that came ready to stand up to Philly. When your smallest forward and your 41 year old captain are your physical presence it's gut check time.
It wasn't about the two points it was about playing for one another.
Pretty confident that this will be addresses in short order.
Great theory.
You do realize that we pretty much already have the entire friggin BSens lineup playing right?
No - you're INSANE.
Every one of Ottawa's young players is fighting for a BIG NHL contract.
They'll be playing all out for the rest of the season.
Anderson has been playing like a TOP level goalie and has a cap friendly contract for the next 2 years.
Every player can be traded but the price for Anderson would be VERY high.
I think Stash has them on a short leash, there is a lot to be said for discipline. That being said there is a line that gets crossed and the guys should have responded tonight and a few other times the past two weeks also. They will learn.
At least Bishop stood up for himself in nets, gave that fruit loop a nice cross check across the chest. I hate Philly and one of the highlights of my life was that massive melee with them several years ago. I was rather hoping blood would boil over today. Alas!
You said it. I know most of us wear black+red tinted glasses but seriously how could Anderson not command more on the trade market than Luongo? What would be a reasonable return for him?
I echo what The Jakester said earlier. If we make a really good hockey move to help out the team for the next 4 or 5 years beyond this one I am all up for ideas. The thing we need most is a bonafide, coming into their prime top line winger.
I hear you loud and clear. The past two games? Yes they have been hard to watch but frankly I am surprised this squad hasn't been struggling even more. We're making pretty frigging good with our roster if you ask me.
At the end of the stats sheet scoring is the issue and will continue to be so.
Fickle fans forget that future potential aside, we only have TWO real top 6 forwards right now, and both of them, Alfie and Turris are solid 2nd liners. Everyone else has been thrust up ~1.5 lines and playing over their heads and out of roles. Only a moron would be surprised we will have games like this.
Unfortunately I don't think it was me. I didn't get to hear what was said unless they happened to read something I may have posted couple days ago
omg shut up haha.
Didn't mean to tell you to shut up, it was that FSJguy but apparently his posts have been removed.
Silfverberg is not going to be that amazing player that every one thinks he can be, his style of play is just SEL exclusive, and will never translate to the NHL. Honestly in the NHL he is actually a third line winger(for his defensive upside), rather than a top 6. He maybe a rookie, but honestly I have seen no improvements or creativity in his game that indicates that he will be a good player in the future. Sure he has a good shot, but so does Turris and look where Turris is at.
Obviously we're going to have a hard time scoring goals when we're missing our three top offensive players. Obviously we're going to see mistakes made in our own zone when there are so many rookies and sophomores in the line-up.
I'm not making excuses for the guys we have playing right now, it's just the reality of the situation. On paper, the roster we've been rolling with is one of the worst in the NHL, but do to outstanding coaching, world class goaltending and a solid work ethic we've been able to squeak out games.
I still believe in the guys we have but we aren't going to win every game. Enough of the negativity, this is a goddamn rebuild after all.
The Sens have been missing that great goalie for a very long time. Now they have him in Anderson having a Vezina chance this season & some of you want him traded? Why for a good return? So I guess the Habs should trade Price or the Rangers trade Lundqvist because they would get good returns? What is better a Vezina calibre goaltender NOW & in the immediate future or a prospect or pick that may work out?
This site is getting me very angry today.
Hoping for a win tomorrow. But if they lose I expect to come on here to read that Bryan Murray & Paul McLean should be fired. Some comments on here are as ridiculous as that today. Trade Alfie, Turris? Why, because they lost a fucking game without 4 top stars in the lineup?
Time to quit the site for the day.
They are on the ice to shut down the top lines of the other teams - a checking line.
They get more PP time because the top 3 players on the PP are out of the lineup with injuries.
Yikes.. that's all I can say.
Wanna congratulate my boy
@dbrassard16 for finally getting a home.
No longer homeless. Just 12 minutes
away from me! #brothers
Brassy bought a house in Ottawa?
I know everyone is in a rush to trade a goalie, but why? We need Anderson now and for a few more seasons. With Lehner going back to the A when Andy comes back Bingo has a real chance if winning another championship. Bishops value is likely to be the highest in the summer.
convinced, that the posters who slam the team after a defeat, are very immature, and simply cannot handle a Sens loss.
Call up so and so, trade this guy, and many negative comments, are simply young frustrated, but new hockey fans, who are not able to live with a defeat of their
Senators!!
These fans will get over this , when they
mature year after year!
Liked what Wiercioch did today, was more physical and moved the puck well.
we really need to backcheck on those 3 on 2's or 3 on 1's. Until we find the back of the net we won't win games. Simple rule is that 3 goals win win you games in the long run.
Same here, Sandy.
I don't discount that they can do well and win some games but for the most part this is an experience year for the young guys.
Our four best players are out Anderson Spezza Karlsson and Michalek, not being at the bottom of the standings is a bit of a miracle if you ask me.
why do i feel like i know more about star wars after todays game?
And the b sens beat the marlies today! it was still a good day.
Maybe you now appreciate the wisdom of going for a cheese burger. Sometimes it's best to just walk away and wait for the next game.
What!?! Does this mean anything, or is Brassard from Ottawa? I'm pretty excited.
Silfverberg has a world class shot, skates well, and has a very high hockey IQ. He's getting better and better. If you watch closely you'll see how well he anticipates the game.
I guarantee within his next 2 full seasons (if healthy) he will score 25+ goals and 60 points. I don't even have any doubts about it. He's that good. Playing so much better than you're giving him credit for.
Watch how often Silfverberg is able to predict where he should be on the ice and what he should do with the puck. He constantly makes the right decisions regarding those two things. That is the biggest common quality of elite players. I implore you to look closely at how often he keeps the play alive, finds the open man, or is able to get the puck back for Ottawa when it seems like a 50/50 opportunity to take possession.
Maybe I missed something while I was hot-tubbing, but the site has been fairly civil today. Some people are more rational than others and can digest a Sens loss and take it in context.
Bottoms up!
Smith is a young Mike Fisher. I won't stand for your anti-Smitty talk! The kid is pure heart and soul.
To Bill Brasky... I mean, to Zack Smith!
Cheers,
Yes, Brassard is a local boy. Don't think too much into. Although Murray has shown interest in him previously.
Smith brings nothing. He doesn't play in any important defensive situation (he had zero minutes of ice time in OT against Boston even when they were killing a penalty). Today on the 5-3 he didn't touch the ice, Daug and Regin were out there most of the time. What confuses me is how does he get any PP or empty net time?
he will be filling a top line spot very easily, i still believe he is alfie 2.0
following his career since his under 18 leagues, he always shows signs of being slow at adapting to the league. it has taken him atleast 3 years in each of the leagues he has played in to reach a point per game status.
I think we were just slightly too excited for him this year after we saw it only took him ~20 games to adapt to the AHL. and jakob passing that mark at the NHL and still not too many signs of confidence coming from him. I do not expect to see him skate with that confidence for atleast a full season. and i surely dont expect him to be a top line player for atleast another 2 full seasons.
i hope he, just like we used to complain about spezza does 1 simple thing. SHOOT the puck more.
Just because it took him 3 seasons to raech ppg status in the SEL does not mean it will be same in the NHL. He had a dominant year last year playing on the big ice surface(after 3 years of playing in SEL), but he sure as hell did not play too well in the World championships playing on a line with Alfredsson while playing a larger ice surface(Silfv's forte). The world championship tournament is a tournament where even crappy NHL players play well in.
I think Silfverberg will just end up being another David Rundblad.
Shibal07 = ZipZapRap 2.0
We are now reaching the half point in the season and every year, it's where contenders starts playing like contenders and will seperate from survivors like Ottawa and Toronto The only aspect that would put us in the playoffs is our goaltending which is possible.
As for Silfverberg, you don't ask a kid with 21 games in the NHL to become the best offensive player for a team considering he had played all of his hockey on a bigger surface. This kid will be great in a couple of season just as Zibby and Turris.
Patience is the word.
Go Sens Go
Silfverberg-TUrris-Stone
Regin-DaCosta-Alfie
Greening-Zbby-Smith
Condra-JOB-Neil
This is what I'd like to see. Smith on the wing let him bang if he doesn't
press box time. Grant takes his spot if he doesn't produce.
With Spezza, MM9 and (dream) Perry as our first line, every other lines become extremely strong as they will be back in their appropriate ROLE. Add Karlsson and Cowen = contenders for the Cup.
We will have a great team next season. Should we make the playoffs this season, it's all bonus gang.
Dont forget Condra, Silfv and Regin... bounces gotta swing their way soon... law of averages... we hope :)
Thsi is the most "backward and mentally delayed" comment ever posted
wrong blog leaf troll!!!
Amen to that. Turris and Silfverberg are fine. They're young and showing lots of potential/talent.
Gotta judge prospects by their play, especially when they're 1-2 lines higher than they should be because of injuries.
Trading Michalek is a step sideways at best. Consider him a piece we have in place. He plays a complete game, no improvement necessary/likely.
Finally, we don't need to trade Anderson. Former goalie graveyard (that's us) finally gets one of the NHL's best and we're talking trade bait? I don't care how deep we are, that's too much.
I think a lot of posters must be young, impatient fans with ADHD.
...but that's a GOOD problem.
Bishop should start, and any chance of seeing Michalek in the lineup today ??
Will Sens have a morning skate, with a game at 3 PM ??
