Ben Bishop did the best he could in a tough spot but the Rangers tied and took the lead shortly after he arrived in the game. Hard to really fault him on either goal but you could tell the Sens were a little bit shell shocked after Anderson went down.
But give the Senators credit. They refused to roll over and die. Not long after the Rangers took the lead, Mika Zibanejad drew the Sens even with a great finish from in close on the power play.
Both teams had chances to win the game in the final minutes of regulation and in overtime but Lundqvist and Bishop stood tall. Ben Bishop was solid in the shootout and Kaspars Daugavins scored the shootout winner and the Senators picked up another crucial two points.
You have to love the fight this team is showing right now.
Jakob Silfverberg, who has looked better and better with each passing game, scored the other Ottawa goal as he roofed a vicious backhand over the glove of Henrik Lundqvist. This was certainly SIlfverberg's best game of the season.
You obviously don't want to speculate but watching Craig Anderson get carried off the ice you can't help but think the worst. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to hear more on the severity but the fact that it's his ankle and not knee has to be considered good news. The "day to day" diagnosis is promising too.
In the meantime, the Senators will likely recall the red hot Robin Lehner from Binghamton of the American Hockey League.
The Senators now get set for a Saturday night rematch with the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Place.
GO SENS GO
Tough call. Bishop has really played well his last few outings. Will be interesting to see who MacLean goes with.
Even better, Alfie looks like he is having fun out there. He's smiling and has this look like he's possessed by the hockey gods.
Here's hoping Anderson's injury is nothing major and has a quick return to his throne in net. Until then, keep this train going as it is.
Great game.
What an emotional win by the boys! My heart was racing. Was yours? They really came through tonight. It's great to see that the "never let die" mentality hasn't changed from last season. That's three wins in a row. Go Sens!
Let's hope that Anderson gets well soon! And please no more talk about trading any of our three spectacular goelies!!
Hope Andy is ok
Really impressed with Bishop tonight played solid, better in the shoot out than I expected both nights.
Great win against NYR we are beat up and still kicking some ass.
What a great win. Everyone stepped up! Hope Andy is okay but I have no doubt that Bishop and Lehner can hold down the fort for the time being.
This team has so much damn heart and such great leadership... I love it! Bring on the Leafs!! Payback time!
Maybe
Think we won that trade eh
Jakob is the real deal folks. He's going to be a great Senator. Just wait until he gets a little bit stronger and a bit quicker... He's going to be a beauty!
I have to imagine 3 wins straight is putting the wind back in the sails of this team, I'm sure spirits were low after Karlsson went down but being able to prove they can win without him must be encouraging.
Throw in the natural competitive nature of playing rivals in the Leafs and the Habs, I can totally see them winning the next two in gritty fashion as well.
He's massive and has wheels for days. He also loves to hit which is something we can't say for our other massive fast guy (Greening). He seems to be the perfect guy for a bottom 6 role.
Thought he was the most noticeable guy on the ice for both teams
@CraigAnderson41: another 2 pts. #bish stood tall - hard place to come in the game. Love the #alfie save in the 1st! My ankle's gonna be ok, be back ASAP.
So reassuring
He again shut down the oppositions best players. He didn't score but helped create Zibs goal as well as had some amazing scoring opportunities all game long.
He was definitely creating in the offensive zone. Think he heard you guys
Silf looked good all night, I think he's arrived.
Had to love Pmac throwing out Smith and Dawg in the shootout!
Keep it rolling Boyz!
I'd still throw down money that Toronto misses the playoffs.
really impressed by the games silfverberg, zibanejad and greening brought
sens D was game all night long, nothing soft. which is awesome. wiercioch is a real gamer.
funny how tookie and his verbal diarrhea disappear after sens wins, especially against higher ranked teams or teams with better perceived odds.
However I've noticed DaCost is starting to slow down. Tonight as well as last game he hasn't had the puck on his stick as much. Doesn't seem to be involved in the game anymore.I'm his biggest fan but I think he may need a night or two in the press box. Wouldn't be a bad idea to throw in an eager O'Brien
Also...I can't wait to see Methot in the playoffs. Whether its this year or not, the guy is an absolute beast. His style of play is simply ideal for the playoffs. He's just gonna go out there and crush everyone in sight.
I know people hate on him, but Phillips is the same way. He's a beast who works his ass off. And always takes it to the next level in the post season
i thought the same about DaCosta, except the guy only got 6:18 of ice time - obviously the coach was more into matching lines tonight than anything - playoff style matchup.
silfverberg - moronic 8 shots on net
methot and dziurzynski: beast like 7 hits with some pretty crunching ones. that is the most of any player on the both teams - BY A LONG SHOT.
honorable mention: mika with 4 hits, 4 shots.
First off...Sens win. Yeah!
Secondly...I am so torn with my emotion with how it can be possible that this much damange can be done to one team in 18 games. Top line centre, best d-man in the league..and then...what happened to Andy tonight.
I will break for a minute...I appreciate and love this website...I view it daily and enjoy the feedback and comments from all. That said...I am going to skip this site for the next few days because I dont think I can stomach the inevitable...wh ich is some people drowning this blog with comments about "tanking", high picks...and basically video game fans taking over the discussion.
I for one..am in mourning over what has happened to my team to date.
Cheers to all you real Sens fans. I will talk to you in the coming days. But I def. need some time.
GSG...Chirp...I really love your sight.
Just think how rested the top guns will be if the Sens make the playoffs!
Makes you wonder if Murray might take a chance and use their 1st pick come the trade deadline!!
Makes you wonder just where the Sens would have been with a healthy Cowen, Spezza & Karlsson.
Suck it Phaneuf!
Go Sens Go!
Another gutsy win for the good guys, and for anyone that has seen the movie Goon this team is playing Gay Porn Hard!
It's waaay past his bed time.. haha I kid.
I was at the game and I'm suprised it's an ankle injury. Anderson liteally needed help lifting his leg to get onto the bench. Speedy recovery Andy!
Silverberg's goal was just nasty. I couldn't make that shot standing still with no goalie in the net.
Absolutely! Bishop deserves the start on Saturday vs the Leafs. We're all very excited to see what Lehner can do but Bishop has played very well with the exception of that Tampa game earlier in the season.
Hope Andy's OK.
Final thought: while I have seen many games over the years with poor officiating, never have I seen an entire season when not only is it bad and inconsistent but it's down right wrong and incompetent.
http://blueshirtsunited.com/videos/2557/torts-discusses-loss-to-senators#.UScB3o6nDRo
He really is an asshole. The Rangers should be the team to beat in the east based on their roster, but it seems like they just don't want to play for him and i don't blame them.
Our guys are completely decimated by injuries and they give it their all every night for PM and each other. It's inspirational. Keep it going boys.
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition:
And gentlemen in England now a-bed
Shall think themselves accursed they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day.
Indeed but we all know he'll be back tomorrow ridiculing some other player like Zach Smith for not scoring.
It's his first season in North America on small ice surfaces.
I expected slow but steady progress as got climatized.
Nice to see that I really underestimated him.
Kenneth Branagh's version was superb
"Those are my boys"
In the middle of his janitorial night shift at the local McDonalds is my guess.
Since day 1 of the organization, I think this is the best depth we've ever had...I shudder to think what would've happened in the Muckler years had these same injuries occured...
...and I'm also starting to think that the Paulrus may have been his best signing he's made
Anderson well his value was at an all time
high... lol. It's only a sprained ankle
though. Love how he does this right
before the game I'll be at. Might as well
be our entire first line out against
Toronto.
@ CraigAnderson41 1h
another 2 pts. #bish stood tall - hard

#alfie save in the 1st! My ankle's gonna

Sorry, just so pissed to see our last remaining star get hurt.. venting!
Shot through a maize if three likely changed direction..forg ivable yes.
Hey Chirp,
MacLean has to go with Bishop,as he has performed well in last 2 games he played.
Both games resulted in wins !!
Last night, he was forced to replace Anderson, and Bishop was really "cold" as Denis Potvin said.
Starting Robin Lehner, would be somewhat
showing Bishop, that the team has lack of faith, in his abilities to perform well !
Sure Rangers took a 2-1 lead, but Ottawa was shocked after Anderson was injured.
They found a way to regroup and overcome the loss of Anderson.
For the first time, I really started cheering our Goaly instead of the forwards of defencemen. Andy is really on his game and fun to watch. Come back soon.
In Lehner and Bishop we Trust! Go Sens Go!!
BRING IT ON MOTHERFUCKERS!! ! NOTHING CAN STOP THESE GUYS!!!
vs leafs, I wish i could see lehner start (huge fan), but bishop will start as it is the right thing to do.
It was definitely a great game for Silfverberg. I complained a bit about Greening not shooting yesterday, so it was good to see him take 3 shots and have 3 hits this game. Zibanejad also with 4 shots and 4 hits played much much better. Dziurzynski looks like he's here to stay, he's playing great. I heard his story on the radio yesterday that he wasn't even drafted and didn't play college or major junior. He was just playing tier 2 junior and was given a tryout with Binghampton and made the team.
I'm wearing my LEHNSANITY ;) shirt for the first time today in anticipation!
My brother has season tickets in Row 4 just behind the visitor's goalie.
I get to go with him a few times, and you are right, that it is one of the best seats in SBP. Only when play is at the other end do you not see that well.
You were fortunate to see goals scored at your end and the Sens players coming at you during the extended shootout !!
GO SENS GO!>through thick and thin!
Big Ben deserves a back to back.
He's a chance for Ottawa to showcase his skills and if the guy can't carry a decent workload, we'll not get a 2nd or even possibly a 1st for him unless we do. I'm really cheering for him to carry Andy's torch; increase his value; or set the stage for a Anderson trade if the team slips out of playoff contention.
To Release The Lehner!
You're worse than tookie.
silf beats brodeur AND lundquivst with that shot of his....how many NHL vets can brag about that??? now he needs spezza to dish out some setups and figure out how to get closer to the net to unleash so damage. He still shoots a little far away...but i'm hoping he adjusts shortly.
He sure did not let me down last year in the playoffs against the NYR.
Would be crazy to trade one of the best goalies in the league right now.
I predicted a 2-1 SENS win in OT (do you even read the boards, troll?), dont know if you watched the game but I was pretty close, did anyone get it right on the head? I think someone did.
Also after games I dont go rushing straight to this blog, sorry SC, we go drinking, Heart & Crown for the win!
Even the Leafs fans are starting to feel for us. I think we are due to meet them in the playoffs again and get this rivalry back on track.
Go SENS/Bingo Go
02. Smith - doesn't score, but the heart and soul this guy pours into each game... contagious and fun to watch!
03. Methot - great trade - this guy is a monster and hits hard!
04. Phillips - is sneaking out of the shadows more often - great hits last night
05. Sweden - Thank you for Zibby, Silf and Alfie
06. Silf - I'm starting to get whiplash trying to follow his shots!
Side note - Andy get better
Side note - to all the Big Ben haters, he will show you and the Leafs what he's made of
GO FUCKING SENS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
I agree with this, Bishop has earned this start and Mac knows that, luv Lehner and all but he'll get another game down the road.
He was on the PP last night (2nd unit) and they end up scoring (Zib). Smith also played much better OFF last night, he doesnt need to shut down people, our D and goalie can do that on their own.
I think someone on the SENS staff must read this blog.
Thanks Tookie !!
Glad you feel like I do , and Lehner will
be the backup vs the Leafs !!
H-UBER IMPRESSIVE lol
Lehner's time will come but Bishop gets over looked on this team by everyone, it's his time to shine. Show us what you can do Ben!
It's great to see him having so much success but where the hell was that during the World Juniors this year? He was garbage for Canada this year.
Karlsson, Alfie, Silf, Zibby, Lehner and hopefully Claesson and Wikstrand some day.
Not saying I would but I can only imagine what the return could be for the best goalie in the league. The Sens could get a wicked return. + we still have Bishop and Lehner.
But this only occurs when you lose, as long as we keep playing over .500, Anderson doesnt go anywhere.
Give yourself a big hug and tug; didn't you say you'd sit Smith? Yep you sure did. Now he doesn't have to play defense? Lets just have the forwards sit at the opposing teams blue line and have the defense ring the puck around the boards and out.
Your lack of common sense is showing in every diarrhetic post. Your hockey ignorance is fun.
I agree... to me there should only be East and West. You suck, you suck. Play better.
Yeah I know, thats what I'm saying, def had his best game so far, he needs to keep this going.
I think its Smith himself, he reads this blog!
I agree with you guys, makes no sense at all. Dont know what the NHL brass were thinking of when they created that structure...
Bettman's way to ensure more American teams are in....
Just wrapped up. Some very interesting comments on the incident. Will post the video/audio when they become available.
See SC 's post :)
He has his moments, love the guy when he gets into it with the media tho, thats classic Torts!
He's a great fit for NYR thats for sure.
Yeah I was gonna say, they probably dont care as long as they got Lehner...haha
They keep winning tho, just like the Sens.
"you're taking lehner too!!??? Newton!!! fetch me my skates!!"
I'm really impressed with Gryba. He had one incident last night that wasn't pretty, but he's been very solid.
I agreed he probably had one of his better games last night, especially in the offensive zone
I still stand by my comments that a 3LC needs to score goals. Not saying he is playing bad but he needs to generate offense
Simple reason: If he is generating chances (Like last night) then who ever he is "shutting down" doesn't have the puck
Id much rather an offensive Smith than defensive Smith, because that simply means we have the puck and not the opposing top lines
That being said, when goals are hard to come by, we need everyone chipping in regardless of roll. Phillips is ultimate stay at home dman, and he still manages every once in a while to chip in here and there

"Sorry" doesn't make your rant any less pathetic or moronic
yeah...a friend of mine is a leaf's fan. He was saying it must be rough without Spezza, Michalek, Andersson, Karlsson, Regin, and Latendresse...b ut you know..we are struggling with injuries too... with frattin being out (LOLOLOLOLOLOLO LOL....WHAT!!?? ? YOU'RE COMPARING THE TWO!!????).
Amazing that we can still ice a competitive team...simply amazing...credi t is due to some guys up there...
And Darth:
Last time I checked...andy was not our last star. There's this little known guy called Daniel Alfredsson (you may of heard of him before)....yeah ...he's 40...but currently playing like he's 24.
Cowen
Spezza
Stone
Hoffman
Latendresse
Regin
Karlsson
Michalek
Anderson
Dr. Chow is probably the busiest man in Ottawa
Frattin/Lupol are to the leafs what MM9/Spezza are to the Sens... not saying they are as good, but on a crappy leafs team, they are near the top of the heap. The leafs still have Kessel/JVD whereas we have Turris/Alfie.
We have better players hurt and better players still playing... although I'm sure someone will tell me Kessel+JVD >> Turris+Alfie... but I'll take our boys any day :)
Also, now that I think about it, Dacosta skillset is more suited for a top 6 role, which is occupied by turris and zbad, and Grant, Smith, JOB are better suited for the bottom 6 lines.
This way Dacosta can goto Bingo and be a leader with alot of icetime.
Makes sense
....and cowen...karlsson....andy???
That is my point. scrivens...phan euf...kessel?? where would the leafes be??? my point is you can't compare the injuries, this is beyond rediculous.
I think he's hilarious.
He plays his role of "coach in the Big Apple" perfectly.
I love it when he carves up a reporter who asks a bozo question.
I'd like to see another Rangers / Senators playoff meeting his year.
Yet our injuries are so not lockout related. No groin pulls, hammy tears
Spezza- Bad back
Karlsson- freak accident
Anderson- freak accident
Cowen- lockout injury
michalek- maybe only lockout related injury we have
Latendresse- Whiplash WTF
Regin- of course
Paul MacClone could always fill in for a day or two
I agree the injuries dont compare at all, but every team has them, its part of hockey, although the hockey Gods are mad at us for some reason?!?!
We have been VERY fortunate to have Anderson play healthy this far, without him you have to admit we wouldnt be in this situation. Now he's out, dont know how long but that I think will be our FINAL test, if we can stay .500 with BB and Lehner then we are def gonna make noise in the playoffs with or without our stars.
The Leafs and Habs are playing very well, they are scoring and playing good defensively. Habs have Price as well, Leafs not so much with Scrivens, although he has been playing well.
Gryba, Benoit, Weircoch, Dzuirzinski, Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Grant, Bishop, Did he just immediately put on his Bingo jersey?
or did he see
Smith, Greening, O'Brien, Condra, Daugavins and just put on his championship ring?
Silverberg did what I predicted he would yesterday, coming up big with that shorty. That no look top shelf was something else!! I also predicted Turris to have a big game. While he didn't hit the score-sheet, he did play balls out all night, so did Alfie.
Anderson going down made me throw up a little in my mouth. I guess back luck comes in more than just 3's, look at how many of our top players are out!! Anyway, Bishop and Lehner will hold the fort. Now the debate will be, who plays the next game? I can see that being the big discussion going forward.
And I won't forget to mention Zibanejad. He needed that goal something awful and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Anyone see the Deal Don Cherry's in Kanata is offering? $60 for a ticket and drive to and from. $80+ dollar value I guess.
