BSens Kick Off Preseason

While the NHL and the NHLPA continue to kick the crap out of the upcoming NHL season, hockey starts on another front tonight in Binghamton, New York.

After a week of high tempo training camp under new bench boss Luke Richardson, the Binghamton Senators will open their preseason schedule at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena against the Hershey Bears. The puck drops at just after 7:00 PM.

Robin Lehner gets the start for the home side.

Based on reviews out of camp so far, it sounds like Lehner has come back ready and refocused after an inconsistent year in 2011/2012. There have been rumbling about attitude problems with Lehner in the past but those seem to be a distant memory at this point. Tim Murray raved about Lehner’s to date and said that guys just haven’t been scoring on him in practice.

Should be interesting to see how that translates during the AHL season. A focused and motivated Lehner is a huge asset for this organization.

The BSens will also dress three highly touted prospects in Jakob Silfverberg, Mika Zibanejad and Mark Stone. All three are expected to be in the mix for spots with the big club and will be eager to impress while in the AHL.

Will try to track down a more complete line up and add it to this post. Tonight is the first of three preseason games for the BSens. They open the regular season on Saturday, October 13.

Not aware of any television coverage of this game but as always, keep an eye on the comment section to see if a stream pops up.

BSens Line Up

Silfverberg-Pageau-Zibanejad
Dziurzynski-Culek-Stone
Cowick-Grant-Peltz
Kramer-Gazely-Downing

Ekford-Blood
Gryba-New
Claesson-Wideman

Lehner

VERY EXCITED TO SEE THESE PROSPECTS PLAY!!!! This is great stuff, hopefully there is a feed...

Big league can honestly go screw themselves for a while if we can get televised AHL games.

Uncle Eug should fly the team (and the opposition) into town and play a couple of games at Scotiabank place...There would be some profit made for sure (and some happy hockey fans).

Possibly Stupid question: Will the team 1200 radio station be broadcasting it?

Hoffman
Prince
Noessen
Puempel
Petersson
Cannone
Wiercioch

So many more names that I'm curious about on top of the ones you've mentioned. I'm unfamiliar with the guys that are in (ie Ekford, Wideman, Peltz, Gazely, Downing).

Having said this, I know some of them are still young (Prince, etc...), and I am not the most familiar with the AHL players...so it is a "noob" opinion from me. I still wish I could see some of those guys play though so that I could compare development levels.

...to add to my above statement, I also over-looked (due to my excitement) that this is pre-season...so they are prob just trying out some players that are on the fence while sitting out better players (aka Cowen/Costa)

will be excited to see Hugh Jessiman (aka Huge Speciman) to get some action too...this cast off could turn into a steal if he can use his size and get a bit of scoring touch..was a 1st rounder in a previous draft, so should have some talent, now with some maturity..who knows?

Prince is injured, so is Weircioch.

Noesen and Puempel are not AHL eligble, they are playing in their junior teams and Puempel is on a tear already 4G+1A.

The coaching staff already said they are sitting the veterans out for the preseason games to get a look at the rookies, so Hoffman, Petersson, DaCosta, Cannone, Cowen, Benoit are probably aint going to get any or littele preseason time since the coaches already know what they have with those players.

Ekford was a free agent veteran dman signing, Wideman is a good prospect that just finished his NCAA career with Ben Blood, and Downing was a free agent signing as well.

And apparently the preseason games won't be televised so I don't think anyone could get a stream.

He had 27 goals last year between Abbotsford and Lake Erie. He can pot them. Like to see him fight a little more for a guy his size.

Supposedly Zibanejad scored his goal today, with his Alfie style slapshot again.

That slapshot of his will be very vital on the pp in the future.

Yah that shootout goal by silfverberg was pure laser, the puck was in the net before the goalie even reacted.

Pageau - i've said it before is a sleeper - really skilled this kid. The future looks bright - he's our version of David Desharnais of the HAbs except he's so much taller lol

Something I didn't notice until today was that last year the Bsens were the worst team in the AHL. I was wondering why kleinendorst left. Now I understand why.

If the lockout is for the whole year then the Bsens wil definitely be the Calder cup winners. One thing that I was worried about for Silf and for Zib was that they would take a long time to get used to the NA game ie: rundblad happy to see that is not the case.

Could be...stream was pretty bad, but Grubauer looked like the better goalie to me (especially in the 2nd period), until silf, stone, and pageau undressed him in the shootout.

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually a Lehner supporter, and I know this is only the first pre-season game...I'm actually rooting for him to come out huge this year in the AHL. I just wasn't impressed with his performance tonight.

+1 #54 FAT ALBERT 2012-10-03 22:31
Pageau has basically won a spot with the performance tonight, very impressive debut, great speed and skill, wasn't at all afraidt to go the dirty areas as well, finished hischis checks as well. He could be our David Desharnais.

Blood really impressed me as well, a big nasty physical damn that can skate as well, skates better than Gryba and is nastier with a bit of an offensive touch that keeps the play simple and gets pucks at the net.

Zibby looked like a man on a mission, skating hard and making plays, looked much more confident than his days in Ottawa.

Silfverberg is like a silent assasin, he just sneaks up on you and boom the puck is in the net.

Stone, he didn't stand out as much but if anything I didn't notice his skating at all, good or bad, he doesn't get caught out of position or behind in the play but also isn't going to beat people with his speed. Scored a great shootout goal though.

Lehner played good considering the inexperienced D he had in front of him

I see the final lineup somewhat like this.

Hoffman- DaCosta- Petersson
Silfverberg- Pageau- Zibby
DD- Cannone- Stone
Cowick- Grant- Huge as man

Cowen- Benoit
Borocop- Beckford
Weircioch- Gryba

Lehner

The Binghamton
Senators defeated the Hershey Bears 4-3
in a shootout in their pre-season opener
Wednesday. Jakob Silfverberg and Mika
Zibanejad each scored a goal and added
an assist in regulation.
Tyler Eckford gave the B-Sens the lead at
13:49 of the first. Zibanejad stretched the
lead to 2-0 with a goal at 15:17 of the
same period.
Barry Almeida got the Bears on the board
at 14:36 of the second period, but
Silfverberg put the B-Sens back ahead by
two with a shorthanded tally at the 18:09
mark.
The Bears went on to erase the two-goal
deficit in the third period as Adam
Comrie and Joel Champagne potted goals
at 1:44 and 8:32 respectively.
The game would progress to a
shootout. B-Sens forwards Silfverberg,
Mark Stone and Jean-Gabriel Pageau each
scored on Bears’ netminder Phillip
Grubauer.
Robin Lehner tended goal for Binghamton
turning aside 28 of the 31 shots faced in
regulation.
The B-Sens pre-season schedule
continues Friday as they travel to Hershey
to face the Bears at 7 p.m. Fans can listen
live on “Binghamton’s Classic Hits” BIG
107.5 (WBBI-FM). Voice of the B-Sens
