The belief is the two sides will speak unofficially today but right as of right now, no formal talks are planned.
The best part about this site has always been the fact that I know I'm talking to and interacting with fans that are just like me. While everyone else is disappointed to see the end of summer we hockey-mad type are exicted because it means a new hockey season is just around the corner.
Well not this year.
Today, I hand my blog over as a soap box for the die hard fan. How do you feel as the NHL teeters on the edge of yet another lockout? How will you fill the void? What will you do to ensure your voice is heard this time around?
I'm away from the computer most of the day today but I'll be checking the comment section to share in the frustration of SensChirp readers while periodically checking Twitter for a lockout day mircale.
I would love to make 600,000 a year to play a sport I love, would you like to make 600k a year or more don't even get me started on the ones that make more than that and are bitching in this process.
Greed pure and simple
Boo lockout.
Go Sens GG!
Here's hoping we get a delayed season, even if they play 50 games.
P.S. If anyone is interested in trading for Sens games, please let me know. I have a list and are always looking for any historical games from the past. Particularly

Good money doesn't equal a Stanley Cup; Rangers, Sharks, Leafs. Players need to remember that.
Many people on here have mentioned how this lockout will hurt the league. I think the main reason for that is because this time around the fans won't have something major to be excited about once the league is up and running again.
Last time the league implemented a ton of new rules to make the game more exciting which drew plenty of fans back. On top of that we had the pleasure of watching new stars like Crosby, Ovechkin and Malkin kick starting their careers. This time there won't be anything that exciting. Which means it will take much longer for the league to recover. There won't be a need for any sort of "fan strike".
One thing I don't get is why the players are so fixated on this "new" system they are suggesting. The old system worked very very well for them. Why not just propose a 50-50 split as its clearly what the nhl is trying to get. That would barely but a dent in their wallets.
I started out more on the players side now I see them as being very closed minded. They aren't even trying to negotiate. Its just sad
I believe this government cannot endure, permanently,
half slave and half free.
Indeed! Dialectical materialism leaves no alternative but the inevitable victory of the exploited proletariat.
Plus they don't even have this meetings regularly anyways. Prime example of that is today. It could be a full year and both sides are to blame. The owners aren't even that profitable at 50/50 so my personal opinion is siding With the NHL
For me today College football.. Alabama/Arkansa s then later USC
/Stanford.
Tomorrow snorkeling in the morn then sailing on the Pacific in aft. After that I haven't a clue. I will miss the NHL and have
no alternate (AHL, OHL/QMHL/WHL) all blacked out here so will
locate other hobbies I guess. In the meantime good luck to you all.
Bought season tickets for this season when I thought there would be no way they could all be as stupid as to bring it to this. All was good. Tons of money for everyone.
Player's are being dumb just like last time. Billionaires will out last millionaires. Take the deal, you got more then enough $$.
Speaking of which you won't be getting anymore of mine. I MAY still watch you on tv but that's it, if that. I'm sick of the greed.
The money in question should go to charity not the owners or the players. You both have too much. Do the right thing and maybe I'll come back.
I am really, really pissed off!!!!!!
As a fan, today isn't where my voice matters. Yet whenever the CBA is signed, then the power shifts. Both sides want whats fair, and so do I. My plan is to not engage the NHL on any level for the exact amount of games that they miss. Just imagine if a movement could begin with fans in each city doing likewise. No live games, and no NHL merchandise once they are back for the same length of time they now CHOOSE to miss.
Here's our deal and if you don't accept it by midnight, we will strike the entire 13-14 season
See how the league likes their own stupid tactics
There's really no excuse for another lockout. I'll lose interest entirely if there isn't NHL hockey until next Septhember. Ill satisfy my hockey cravings by playing more myself and watching more junior games, but as far as the NHL is concerned, the wont get a minute of my time or a cent of money from me.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that and that we see the boys back at Scotiabank Place by December 1st at the earliest. I don't think there is any urgency for the owners to settle this dispute until the MLB playoffs are over and the majority of the NFL season is over. The NHL just can't compete with both those leagues in October and November.
...If as many as one game is missed this year, I will definitely not be buying any tickets for any games at SBP this season (if there is one) to show my disapproval...
If the whole season is missed, I would worry that I might not even care anymore...
I'm done with this site until the NHL is up and running - have a nice rest of 2012, everyone!
Maybe Bettman is not the guy to be negotiating CBAs??!!!
I'm so pissed! When is the WHL coming back?
^%#$ you NHL!
Its sad to see what the NHL has came to . I was really hoping to see this newish team that the sens have this year. In the mean time I guess I'll be watching the NHL 13 on tv
Oh well, I'll just focus on other things in the absence of NHL hockey this season. Go 67's!
I could easily shift my attention over to Bingo if only they updated their freakin website once in a while. Is anyone alive over there???
Whats the news on their upcoming season? When's training camp? Is there a plan to televise AHL games? Is Cowen the only regular roster player being assigned? What about Smith, Greening, Condra, Daug, JOB?? If Hall and Eberle can be assigned, I'm sure we can assign our young players on 1 way contracts...
Good point. I wonder if there isn't already a clause in the contract that states that money is paid regardless of if there is a lockout or not. I'm sure NBC/Bell Media and Rogers knew that the collective bargaining agreement was expiring prior to signing the deal...
He's not locking out the players because the CBA was unfair, he's locking them out because it expired and they couldn't reach consensus on a new deal. When you negotiate a new deal, you start back at square one. You can use and agree on things that worked well but you have the option to re-assess and re-negotiate other aspects.
It just sucks because us fans are affected by the decision...or lack thereof...
Hall and Eberle aren't one one way contracts yet. Smith, Greening, Condra etc are all on one way contracts. I don't want any of them in Bingo, they'd just take away ice time from more promising players like Silfverberg, Zibby and Stone.
You're right. I guess they're on their last year of entry level contracts. Got confused with the big contracts they signed this summer.
If they had still been on entry level contracts though, players like Smith Greening and Condra probably would not have taken the place of our promising prospects, but they could easily have replaced "filler" players like Jessiman, Caporusso, Cannon or Grant. Better to have your prospects around players with real NHL experience if you can..
I think we'll have a great chance to win it all again.
-exceptional offensive talent (zibanejad, Silverberg, Stone, DaCosta, Petersson, Hoffman, etc)
-very deep D (Cowen, Wierchoch, Borowiechi, Blood, Gryba, Benoit)
-arguably the best goalie in the league (Lehner)
-and an eager coach with an NHL mindset
I think the toughest competition will probably be Edmonton's farm team as they sent down some elite talent to an already deep team
Should be fun to really follow them this year
However I refuse to attend a single game for the remainder of this season, if we miss a full year then I'll skip all of next year too. I also will buy no merchandise for the entire year either.
I'll get a chance to watch a few 67s games this year now. Go 67s Go
The nhl is what it is because of the players, not because of the league or their owners. But the players must respect the fans and realize the cost of attending games keeps going up and merchandise gets more expensive so costs need to stop hurting the fan and the family experience.
Lets take the best road that enables the fan the greatest experience for the family without needing a small loan to see a live game with the family.
It kills me to even think of purchasing the ahl package that costs $100-150 more than the nhl center ice package and its poor quality video etc, also would i continue to watch the ahl when the nhl comes back? probably not.
Thats my rant of the day...
I think it is disgusting that both sides did not think about the GOOD OF THE NHL to come to an agreement. This CBA is all about the MONEY -- pure greed.
The Owners got the salary cap they NHL needed for survival last CBA -- but the players got all the rest. Sure they gave up 24% in salary.. BUT salaries rose 76% --- they netted 52% salary increases.
Why not a 50-50 split? It makes sense to the fans... why not to both sides?
There are thousands of people who could lose their jobs because of this greed. They can't sit back on their millions and just let it pass. They have to try to get employment somewhere in a bad global economy. That is not easy to do.
Shame on both sides. The second that lockout happened..... started the downturn and damage to the NHL. It will never come back to where it was this past season.... and both sides are to blame.
Sure okay players, go to Europe and play for significantly less than the NHL just offered. Stay there the rest of your careers for all I care.. as some of you won't have a job to come back to. Young players are getting more time to develop and some of you will be replaced.
The AHL is going to be a great league this year... I hope CBC, TSN and Sportsnet see that and agree to show their games on regular basis.
I can hardly wait for the 67's home opener in 4 DAYS... and for me.. Binghamton on Oct 19 & 20th..
Hope the NHLPA and the NHL Owners get back to negotiations sometime this week !
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!
Ie, they get their money now, and host coverage for free in 3 years time.. I bet it will be top notch production values under that arrangement too.. *eyeroll*
Because I was not able to solve my logging in problem, by re-registering, I have decided to post under the above name,
and e-mail address.
This is really Snoopy Senior, and I will try and re-register under another name and e-mail address, in order to be included . Do not know what created this problem, but i
hope to rectify same very soon !
Will keep you posted Chirp !!
Unfortunately you can only get refunds once the game is officially cancelled. So if this goes on for half the season I still have tickets 'til the end so I either don't go or ? I'ld rather not go then boo ALL the players at that point but who knows how this will all end. Not going to throw away a bunch of $100 tickets. Don't want to sell or give them away 'cause then the seat would not be empty. All I can say at this point is that I'm really pissed off at the player's. They cannot win this war and they really don't need too anyway. They did very well since the last CBA they "lost".
Should be interesting to see how the advancements in social media play out in the lockout this time around. Here's hoping it helps bring it to an end soon.
By the tone of this post I think the old gal has a crush on that weasel Bettman.. Thats cute.
and it sounds like you have a crush on her
by the National Hockey League on Sunday:
Despite the expiration of the Collective
Bargaining Agreement, the National Hockey
League has been, and remains, committed
to negotiating around the clock to reach a
new CBA that is fair to the Players and to
the 30 NHL teams.
Thanks to the conditions fostered by seven
seasons under the previous CBA,
competitive balance has created arguably
the most meaningful regular season in pro
sports; a different team has won the
Stanley Cup every year; fans and sponsors
have agreed the game is at its best, and the
League has generated remarkable growth
and momentum. While our last CBA
negotiation resulted in a seismic change in
the League’s economic system, and
produced corresponding on-ice benefits,
our current negotiation is focused on a
fairer and more sustainable division of
revenues with the Players — as well as
other necessary adjustments consistent
with the objectives of the economic system
we developed jointly with the NHL Players’
Association seven years ago. Those
adjustments are attainable through
sensible, focused negotiation — not
through rhetoric.
This is a time of year for all attention to be
focused on the ice, not on a meeting room.
The League, the Clubs and the Players all
have a stake in resolving our bargaining
issues appropriately and getting the puck
dropped as soon as possible. We owe it to
each other, to the game and, most of all, to
the fans.
If that's true I expect a CBA any minute now..
Have finally been able to re-register, which was not that easy
and I hope that it will work !!
I usually subscribe this time of year to the super sports package. I'm a dolphins fan and without hockey it's not a good year to subscribe. I did catch the fins game yesterday online, so I'm saving $45 a month. :)
Get rid of this guy.
Bottom line.
I'm generally a strong capitalist that doesn't like unions so much. I was on the owner's side for a long time, but I do think Bettman has to go soon. I think the players have to move on the bottom line, but the owner's need to move on the theory on revenue sharing. I'm somewhat contradicting myself by promoting a somewhat socialist concept, but it's an economic model that can work for a specific business like the NHL.
how many owners have come out and said we need to reduce budgets or we could be forced to relocate?
how many owners voted for the lockout?
owners in my opinion have never bought a sports franchise to make money, its a personal trophy to them like a bragging right, they own other businesses to make money.
It's their fault to buy a team thats not making money and expect the league to change it so they do make money.
if this were about the owners i think the coyotes 2 owners ago would tell you they will sell the team and it could be relocated, betman stopped them from doing so and bankrupted the franchise twice in five years.
this is not about the owners
this about raising the value of the franchises so the nhl makes money on the new phoenix deal and the markham deal.
this is pissing me off.
Millionaires arguing with millionaires over how they're going to spend the money of people that make 40K a year.
It's sickening that the little rat is going to oversee his THIRD...yes THIRD lockout in less than 20 years.
I really hope that 4-5 teams go bankrupt from this and that the league revenues skyfall.
and as a partial season seat holder in Ottawa last year, I can say that I wont be attending any games this year even if they come back for a shortened season
Time to take that "somebody" out for diner then eh ? LOL
Maybe not to the Big Rig though!
Would have been bad to start the season without him.
How many surgeries has this guy had over the past two year? Dang
This is precisely what both the NHL and the PA had better ber aware of!
My 10 year old son watches wrestling, and I explain to him wiht a smug on my face "dude it is not real, it is all fake, it is only a show, and a business to make money"
In the last lockout, I came to ther hard realization that neither side really cares about the Hockey, it really unfortunately is a business, and it is all about $$$.
So I ask what is the difference between wrestling, where at least they are honest that it is fixed and is only a business, and hockey where we only pretend that players and owners really care about the hockey?
As fans we pour our hearts and hard earned money, in the belief that our teams care to win the Stanley cup.
But at the end of the day, when you team either, does not make the playoffs, or is out in the first, second rounds, these players will get into their Ferrari's drive to theri 8000 sq ft mansions, go out to dinner every night to the finest restaurants, and book extravagent vacations, while we are busy working our every day lives.
Some will say "not my team and players"
Yah well I respond with the Gonchar, Malkin's of the world, who could care less about any of us!
These lockouts are a revalation to many hardcores, and as many have said, fool me once, shame on me...
WAKE THE FUK UP FOOLS
See that the Sens have already taken their AHL bound guys off the team roster though. FYI
Based on his normal success rate I will see you in 2019.
