Heading into Game 6 with a 3-2 series lead, the Sens have a chance to do something pretty special with a win over the Rangers tonight. As the number eight seed, the Sens were eliminated from the playoffs before the puck even dropped. But as this team has reminded us all year, that’s why they play the games…
In Game 5, we saw just how important it is for the Sens to get the first goal. Through the first 4 games, the Sens had barley any odd man rushes but once the Sens scored early in Game 4, they forced the Rangers to open up a little bit. The result was a number of excellent scoring chances for the Senators. Get the lead again tonight and we can expect more of the same.
The Sens and the SBP faithful should get a huge boost from the return of Daniel Alfredsson. Alfie missed the last three games with a concussion but will be in the line up tonight. That Alfie Chant that has picked up steam in these playoffs should hit another level when the clock hits 11:11 in the first period.
Swedish sensation Jakob Silfverberg was on the ice for the morning skate as was cagey playoff veteran Mark Stone. Both took turns on the top line but it looks like MacLean is leaning towards Silfverberg for Game 6. We'll have to wait till closer to game time to find out for sure.
Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.
Michalek-Spezza-Silfverberg
Foligno-Turris-Alfredsson
Greening-Smith-Neil
Konopka-O'Brien-Condra
Kuba-Karlsson
Phillips-Carkner
Cowen-Gonchar
If you are lucky enough to attend Game 6, get ready to make some noise. The crowd at Game 4 was absolutely electric but I expect fans to take it up a notch in this one. Don’t forget it’s a 7:00 PM start!!
GO SENS GO!
the lineup keeps getting better!
Go Sens!
GO SENS GO
Hopefully Alfie will be as clutch as he was in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals against Buffalo!
CAN'T WAIT FOR GAME TIME!
Alfie returns.
Silfverberg debut.
Boyle out.
Perfect scenario.
Let's get it done tonight.
with Silverberg, on Line 1 with Spezza and Michalek.
Hope Alfredsson remains concussion symptom free before
puck drop, and would love to see Alfie score another Game Winning Goal , to sink the Rangers till next year !
GO SENS GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ALFIE ALFIE ALFIE
Michalek - Spezza - Alfie
Foligno - Turris - Condra/Butler
Greening - Smith - Neil
Konopka - O'Brien - Stone/Silverber g
Quoting DenisVial:
Once the playoffs start, the 23-man limit is suspended until the end of the following preseason. That means teams can have as many players on their "playing roster" as possible, but teams are still only allowed to dress 20 players (2 of which MUST be goalies) for each game.
Because MM is so defensively irresponsible?
Sens 4-2
Jason Spetzky is definitely reliable defensively himself.
Spezza has also really stepped up this part of his game too
He's actually always been projected as a strong 2-way player. This year is the first time scouts have talked about him actually maybe being a first line guy.
So yeah he's responsible defensively.
And anyone questioning the ability of Spezza or Michalek to play in their own zone is out to lunch.
There's a difference between focusing on creating offense and not being able to play defence.
Alfie! Alfie! Alfie!
Ooo ah Silfverberg say oooo ah Silfverberg! Ooo ah Silfverberg say ooo ah Silfverberg!
Foligno - Turris - Alfredsson is the line Torts can't match!
Only seen Silfverberg once, he's a dazzler, nice hands, he belongs with Jason and mm9.
Condra has got to play, he is the Lucky Charm weither he scores or not...
Glen Healy is an Arsehole, with a Capital "A"!
SENs in Six!
Close this out at home, and prove the "experts" wrong again.
GO SENS GO!!!
They can't afford to let the Rangers get a substantial lead (2 or more goals) or we are in trouble!
Going to be crazy in Ottawa tonight!
If you gave me the list of players 2 weeks ago I would have said:
MM-Spezza-JS33
Foligno-Turris-Alfie
Greening-Smith-Neil
Stone-Winnie/Obrien-Condra
But with the way kenopka has been playing the past 5 games. His PK abilities, and face off prowess has made him untouchable on that 4th line for now. Not many other teams have a guy who is content to play 5 min a game even strength but can go out and win 60% of faceoffs in spot duty as well
See game 4
:)
Good god no Cotton Eye Joe! Caps @ Bruins game on Saturday was a shining example of the kind of rough, heavy, energy inducing music that works well - hard rock & metal saturated.
Though it was a bit uncomfortable when the it took an espacilly long time to drop the puck on one sequence and "Du Hast" by Rammstein was blaring for about 70 seconds. Haha!
Ok, I'm jumping to conclusions...b ut it looks a lot better on paper :)
I have got to give it to game 4 game go'ers. That was officially the loudest I ever heard our fans cheer!! it was great!!
BRING ON GAME 6!!!
REALEASE THE SILVERBERG!!!!! !!!
Quoting HockeysFuture:
Thanks! Can't wait to see him play!
Yes I saw game 4 and trust me you don't want the SENS to have to come back down 2 goals against the Rangers again. I will breathe alot easier tonight if we can get the lead early on and let Anderson work his magic. We need to throw everything we've got at the Rangers tonight because the last thing we want is to see a game 7 in NY come Thursday!
I'm so F'ing excited right now. I said it before, I'm not the biggest fan of changing the lines, but for some reason the addition of Silfverberg doesn't worry me, it only excites me more. We threw Butler into the mix when needed and he rose to the challenge. We Inked in Stone, game 5, biggest of his career and he met our expectations. I see no problem giving Silfverberg the same type of treatment.
Start the game with:
Michalek-Spezza-Stone/Silfverberg
Silfverberg/Stone-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-Smith-Greening
O'Brien-Konopka-Neil
Condra comes out. Condra has played admirably especially from a defensive standpoint although offensively his inability to finish off his chances has been a bit frustrating to watch.
yup!
If for some reason we had to play both this would likely be the scenerio...I can't imagine it will happen tho
Rags are on their heels. According to a Forbe's article last week Sens putting the nail in the coffin would cost MSG stakeholders 300 million!
Do it for the rookies! Do it for the vets! Do it for our Captain and bright Ottawa to levels of explosive jubilation tonight! Fresh meat and grizzled vets come out like a pack of wolves tonight and celebrate an epic victory!
GO!
SENS!
GO!
So bloody excited for this game tonight! Can't wait!
Woooo!
This game feels bigger than any of the games in our past playoff history, including our run to the cup finals. I'm more excited for this game than I was for the Gold Medal Games in Vancouver and Salt Lake City, or the World Junior gold medal game here in Ottawa.
I have 4 exams this week, and I can't concentrate long enough to study today. I'm trying my best but the only thoughts going through my head are about this sick team we have and how pumped up I am to be a part of game 6 tonight at SBP.
The building is going to be electric. There are so many huge story lines coming into tonight. Alfie's return. Silfverberg's debut, the world class goaltending of Craig Anderson, and the fact that the team that was supposed to finish dead last in the NHL has an opportunity to knock off the top seeded New York Rangers.
If the Sens win tonight, we will be the only Canadian team still playing hockey. We have an opportunity to expand our fan base right now. You know we have a special team when even Leaf fans are jumping on the bandwagon.
Go Sens GOOOOOOOOOOO!!! !!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xVv0EGiY7k4
7:00
this goes to show I think we should try to come up with something for Spezza to show the love for him too!
This is going to be massive!!
Sens close it out tonight!!!
You know if there's anything I'm loving more than really, our success right now, is watching all the season ending headlines and questions.
"Vancouver to blow up their core? Vigneault to coach the Habs!"
"Pens to make drastic changes? Shero to ship Staal out!"
"Red Wings looking at an uncertain summer! Getting OLD!!"
"Burke to stay on for 10 more seasons! Promises 10 Cups!"
Going to be a pretty interesting off season.
With the way this season is gone, it's so hard to believe people still don't give BM enough credit. He did a fine job with the Ducks, and he's doing an excellent job here. Sure some of his moves have been questionable, but the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion.
If the SENS win tonight before 11:11PM Are you going to create a new post saying "Holy Shit we just made it to the second round!"
7pm
If things can continue I may be able to give MacLean a run for his money moustache wise!
That's awesome. I hope they play the chorus tonight at some point. Like when he scores.
Like everyone else, I'm so jacked for this game. Terrible day to be at work. Let's get'er done boys!!!
Go Sens GO!
Staal was pretty good...one if the only ones to shoe up every game.
Who cares blow that shit team up and as long as we don't somehow end up with Crosby or fleury I will be happy
If the Sens win you might not hear from me for a little while haha
WEAK!!
Yep. See in in Tijuana Chirp!
Good one! I guess another good drinking night for you on Elgin or at the game?
"With a win tonight, the Senators can become the 11th No. 8 seed to upset a No. 1 since the current playoff format began in 1994. The Los Angeles Kings became the 10th team to pull off that upset on Sunday when they eliminated the top- seeded Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference quarterfinals." - TSN
Alfie, wearing good ol No.11, returns tonight. Unreal.
Tonight, we make history. All the signs are pointing to it, let's win it for No.11 ;)
I am accomplishing absolutely nothing with my day haha
Ummmm... BBQ
Definitely going to BBQ before tonights game...
Steak, Sens playoff hockey and a couple of Beau’s… not bad for a Monday nighter
The fight that the team produced in the absence of the Captain was admirable.
Time to finish these suckers off! GSG
At the game tonight. Have to remember to stretch before this one. My shoulders hurt after waving that towel so much last game haha
find the nearest hot tub...worked in the movies...worse come to worse, not a time machine, might find some bikini clad ladies to gaze upon lol
Can't wait for tonight!
Alfie! Alfie!
Stall WAS the best player in a Pens uniform, but do you think they would even consider shopping Crosby or Malkin? You have to start somewhere, and Staal would get the most bang for your buck if your doing a minor rebuild and looking to beef up other positions. Staal would be a 2nd or 1st line C on many teams.
Yeah, you never know. And I guess this day in age nobody is really considered untouchable anymore. Imagine what a team would have to pay for him, considering what CBJ wanted for Nash.
Ya, Fleury must have been injured or something. The Pen's defence was not great at protecting him when they know he's struggling. They should have been playing more defensive hockey when they know their goalie is having a bad time. They have enough skills to pounce on mistakes but they looked frailled as a group...
SPL
Looking into the future for sure. At this point it's not a stretch to say that we may have 3 rookies on our roster next season with Stone, Silfverberg, and Zibby. Assuming Alfie comes back for another season, who would be the players that would likely be replaced by those 3?
Today's news begs the question, has any player won an SEL Championship and Stanley Cup all in the same year? #GettingAheadof Ourselves #SENS
Where are the so called "growing pains" people?! They said this year would suck! Yea right!!
GSG
Laffs nation graciously offered to take them all off our hands apparently.
Ah that would explain it!
I hope the guy from HFboards gets some recognition for the alfie chant as well.
but having your site mentioned on nhl.com thats a successful story:)
GO SENS GO
Simple, two bad playoff performances in a row, regardless of who is held responsible. No real drafted stars coming into the fold since Crosby and Malkin started playing. Eric Tangradi is the biggest name they have who isn't a full time player and he's not living up to expections after 24 games this year. And how many teams are paying a 3rd line C 4.5 mil? Not saying he isn't worth it, but they have all the money sitting in the top 3 C positions. They have no real superstar wingers (exception to the acquisition of James Neal) and every year rely on picking up a vertern guy that will hopefully get them over the hump, this year it was Sullivan, last year Kovalev (ha ha), year before Guerin, Satan, it's a running history.
They made a lot of playoff push moves in the past, that took away a lot of picks and options. They need to do at least a semi rebuild and get some top quality draft picks back and start building internally again. Just my two cents.
This should get all of you going!
Memo to Brian Burke - maybe fighting for the last playoff spot isn't such a bad idea after all
Huge break for Senators in game 6, it's been reported that goalie Henrik Lunqvist is out with flu like symptoms. Biron gets the start. #hnic
However:
New York Rangers @thenyrangers
Contrary to internet rumors: Henrik Lundqvist IS on the ice taking part in #NYR morning skate today in Ottawa
Pretty much agree, aside from Letang their 2 best dmen(martin and michalek) were UFA acquisitions.
Trading Staal for a winger should be priority #1..Dupuis, cooke, kunitz can only produce for so long.
Staal for Kessle would make sense, but Burke wouldn't give up on Kessel, aside from that maybe the blues would be interested in giving up oshie in a package. And finally I think CLB have a guy they want to trade right?
was just going to post this! WOHOO! sens sniped on Biron this year during the regular season and he's gotta be rusty sitting on the bench all series. Plus, all that pressure of coming in in an elimination game and I'm loving our chances
Is this to make up for all the missed calls and cheap shots to Karlsson's face? Almost sounds too good to be true! I wouldn't put it past their coach to play this kind of mind game.
how credible is gord stellick? I know who he is, but I have a motto "OTDB and somtimes E"
Only trust Daren (Dreger) & Bob (Mackenzie) and Sometimes Elliott (Friedman)
On second thought, not sure if you found information otherwise chirp, but apparently this is just a rumor.
SPL
Boom. love it. hope we can find a way to dress stone too thought he didn't look out of place at all and should be rewarded.
Apparently it was a fake gord stellick account
They won't have the room to re-sign Staal for the price he is expected to go for (his agent is asking for huge money). He is by far the best 3rd line C in the game right now. Plus, he's ONLY 23. Most "experts" believe he is top line C on most teams too!
Both Sid and Malkin are going into the final year of their contract so I'd say they're shopping Staal for some young, elite prospects to go on those top 2 lines.
And no way they would trade Fleury, they have no one to replace him, and he's still young as well (27). Just about to enter his prime.
You say they should shake things up because they've had two bad playoff performances in a row, but last year they went to 7 games against Tampa without Crosby and Malkin, and it was Staal that stepped up.
This year Fleury just blew it. Look at the numbers their wingers put up in the playoffs.
Sullivan, Kennedy, Kunitz, Neal, Dupuis, all had 6 points in the series, and Cooke had 4.
Their offense is fine, it's their defense and Goaltending that needs to be better. They need to bring in some veteran leadership to help out Sid.
Fleury just dropped the ball for the team, plain and simple.
ah nvm
Well at least that passed a couple minutes haha
I bit too. Rumours have been out there since this morning so that looked like confirmation. Nature of the beast with Twitter.
Malkin has two years left on his contract, Sid and Staal each have 1.
Because of the internet (And Sutton), we're all experts.
With as many all-stars as the Penguins have, they won't be drafting high either. Lets be honest, their top picks were handed to them, and had their scouting been any better they would have taken Toews over Staal.
Time to shop some "all-stars"!
That's noble and all, but I'll beat them any way we can.
Ah, the roller coaster ride of the twitter-verse.
Thank you so much Mr. Recording Device. Michalek - Spezza - Silfverberg I read about according to sources? Wow. Can't wait to get home tonight! Is it still too early to jump to conclusion as to how far we can go? Because if not, we'll be drafting 30th overall boys, if you catch my drift!! Go fuckin Sens go!!!!!!
The offense is normally fine due to the supporting cast, guys like Crosby and Malkin and even Staal. Staal is a top talent, can't agree more. But it's the cap world my friend and they won't be able to sign him long term with the money he's expected to make. They would LOVE to keep him as any team would, but the odds are they won't be able too. So it only makes sense for them to shop around and not lose him for nothing. As for this year Fleury dropped the ball but you won't find anyone in the team placing blame, it's a team lose.
Must say I agree with you! Would have thought even if he was 1/2 dead he would have played anyways
http://tsn.ca/nhl/icechips/
If the salary cap continues to rise they may be able to afford him. I don't know how much money you guys expect him to make on his next contract, he's never even been close to being a point per game player. This season was his most productive with 50 points.
yes he's an awesome player, but being a third line center means that he doesn't have to play against the other teams top shut down players, and he still plays an average of 20+ minutes per game.
I can't see him getting any more than 5.5 mill per season, and that would be an affordable contract for the Pens.
MacLean has not confirmed so assume TSN is going with "guy from last game".
Silfverberg has apparently told a Swedish newspaper he's playing with Spezza and Michalek.
Stoked for game time.
Just hope NBC plays the game, they have listed the Florida game and Sens Game on the same channel on NHL.com and list TBD on the TV guide as to the teams playing.
Team 1200 or a stream may be my only hope.
I don't think Pitt's core is going to change all that much this summer. Most of their team is signed for next season as well and the fact they've kept Staal buried on the 3rd line for so many years should keep his cap hit reasonable. I could see them making Crosby's contract more incentive driven due to the injuries, but I'd be very surprised if they moved Fleury or Staal. And if they do move Staal every team should lineup for him, he's a great two way player and likely has more offense to tap once given more opportunities.
Any of those sound better than listening to senile Bob Cole (apologies to all other senile folk!)
It reminds me slightly of the Hossa/Havlat/Al fie RW issue we had a few years back. Havlat on our 3rd line, on another team's first line.
biron or lundqvist, doesn't really matter...they keep playing the same way they have been and do not deviate from the stache's plan...they can win this...I just don't see Henrik missing this elimination game unless his head was buried in the toilet puking his guts out.
http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=53&id=174300
there's only 29 picks in this years first round, NJ lost their pick because of the 1st kovalchuk contract.
Quoting Hax:
Who knows at this point?? maybe we'll see both of them? my guess if alfie's in and there's no other injuries then stone would sit in favor of silfverberg.
Puts in Stone last game, gets an assist on the game winner.
In comes MVP of SEL, and he throws him right out there. (Although Butler has played better, he is not getting the points)
Alfie comes back = PM wants this win tonight!!!
most coaches would hesitate, but not PM.
Obviously there is something he see in Silfver that he knows he can bring to this series
And do not kid yourselves, bringing back Alfie, and adding some more scoring punch in Silfver will only increase the confidence this team is already displaying
I was at the last OT game 4 win, and will be there again tonight... cant wait
Sen win 3-1 tonight!!!
Kudos on the NHL.com story! Good job!
Thanks! Pretty cool to see that concept getting some National recognition.
May be a blessing in disguise!
I've been waiting patiently, since 9am, for you to officially call an end to the work day. Its not like much work is getting done today.
Done!
The further we go the lower the pick will be.
Very stoked to see Silfverberg play.. but how will he adapt to the smaller ice surface with less manouvering (sp?) room.. He will be hit a lot.. something else he is not used to.
Where I'm more interested to see him is on the PP -- could he make the difference?
Sens please stay out of the penalty box.. you are playing with fire. Hold you emotions when in a scrum.. that's where the refs like to tagged you and ignore the Rangers.
How much will the NHL lose in US viewership if the Rangers don't get out of round one?
TSN doesn't really put much effort when it comes to staying up to date with the Sens so I would believe that Silfverburg is playing tonight.
Does it matter at this point? I believe Murray will use some of the excess forwards he has to try to move up in the draft...
PS: For every one that doesn't know Burke and the leafs staff sent out an apology letter to all the ticket holders for how bad this season went. GOOOO SENS GOOOO
very nsfw language, enojy.

Or maybe he has a hot date with Pinky Tuskadero.
The guy is drinking an Alpine, my old east coast faithful. Don't live in NB anymore, man I miss that beer.
Agreed. Had the chance to try the Alpine myself on a business trip and it was very good indeed.

We should come up with a good bye chant for Torts and the Rangers if we put them away tonight!
Was looking all over yesterday for a Fonzie poster to make a sign for tonight (Sit on it Torts!) but alas couldn't find one.
sucks even more to be 2 provinces away...muted CBC it will be lol
I think all our 3rd and 4th line players on Ottawa should be forced to listen to the cbc feed in their helmets. If they get half as frustrated as I do, I would think they could cause alot of damage on their forechecks as a result
Just an observation:
I've been going through a bunch of Rangers forums to see what they had to say about tonight's game. And they have a bunch of posters that say: gotta watch the ref's they'll be biased against us (the rangers), as they want to keep a Canadian team in the playoffs.
There's no need for the whole "conspiracy" thing. I think we can all agree on how horrible the officiating has been, and I don't see it improving anytime soon, but it's been bad across the board. Nobody is "picking" on us, we get good, bad, random calls like everyone else in the league.
Let's just agree that the ref's suck, and move pass this whole idea. :)
I won't even mute my TV because I don't want to have to listen to the crap that comes out of their mouths! Although I do turn it up to hear the Alfie chants!
If you are watching in HD in Surround Sound, simply disconnect your center speaker and voila, no Bob Cole. You still get all the crowd noise from the suround speakers.
Pens are out, that takes care of one whiner, now lets get rid of Fonzie. I swear to god, he reminds me of Pat Quinn's is tale of the "magic luggie".
especially if they picture every opposing player as glenn healey...the stupid douche.
Maybe if ya'll didn't talk so much!
Kidding of course. I'll see where we at before I head out to the game.
That is awesome if that works (assume it might vary depending on what system you have at home).
Totally need this!
And that reel is a year and a half old, he's been even more outrageously amazing since from what I've heard!
Anyone else feel like Chirp should be shackled to a computer on playoff gamedays? I mean, thanks for the posts, but there's still another 3+ hours before gametime...
Also, I'm a little upset that Chirp's name was revealed. I always pictured Senschirp as some caped crusader, fighting tirelessly against the evil media types ‘The Bliztburgh Pun-dit’, ‘Hockeybuzz Hack’ and the licentious Leaf’s fan known only as ‘Tookie’. I dreamt a dream, but now that dream has been taken from me.
AND BEYOND THAT, HIS NAME IS DAVE… News flash, my dad is named Dave… C’MON! I always thought his name would be something with more, i donno, more 'pizazz', like Heathcliff... or Remus; when’s the last time you met a Remus?
Don’t mind me, I’m upset… and I just wish I could go back to not knowing Chirp’s real name.
It’s like that time I found out the truth about Santa:
One Christmas, I woke up early and walked downstairs to my mom blowing Santa. I got startled and began to cry (I also wet myself, but let’s pretend like I didn’t). My parents explained that they were playing a game, and that it was just my dad playing dress-up. In one fell swoop, I went from having a mom that mouth-bangs Santa to ‘oh, Santa doesn’t exist, and good luck enjoying a kiss from your mother every again’…
Brutal…
I agree that the officiating is bad everywhere but I just don't want them taking stupid penalties or getting sucked into the after whistles penalties like the one Spezza took after taking a shot...he gives back and the penalty is on him. That kinda stuff irks me.
It has been known for years and years that his name is Dave.
NBCsports tonight for the Sens game for all of us Sens fans in the US. The FLA-NJ game is tomorrow.
LMAO
Dave was "outed" a long time ago (i.e. his first name). Or maybe that's just a well-establishe d bit of mis-information ?
I fucking died LMAO
Must have been when FO-LEEEEE-NO was mouth-banging Santa
Must have... well played, sir.

tsn_wally: Silfverberg will play tonight. #Sens #TSN
BOOM!!
I think it's been confirmed by just about everyone except MacLean. Silfverberg told a Swedish reporter that he's playing.
Don't get me going on how much I hate the league for letting the original "crime" go free, and always calling the "retaliation" penalty...or even the broad topic of the Instigator Rule, I'll end up sounding like Don Cherry...he's a fool, but sometimes he's right.
LET THEM SETTLE IT ON THE ICE!!! That's why I had no qualms about Carkner's fist in Boyle's face. Boyle was grinning like a schoolgirl the whole time he was harassing Karlsson, he deserved what he got...great...y ou got me ranting...lol.. .bugs the crap out of me...apologies to the board.

Silf seems pretty calm and collected. Says he got in yesterday and spent the evening with EK, I'd say he's probably the best guy to hang with if your trying to find your way before one of the biggest games of your life.
Hahaha,

WE NEED RED TOWELS! they would look so much better

Yup. Although they aren't for waving around like you might think. Tonight they will come in handy and be used once the Sens win, and like the good old Roman Days of Gladitorial fighting, the kids will exit stage right and the remaining fans will break out into a massive orgy!
