The Panthers are in a fight with the Jets, Capitals and now Lightning for the Southeast lead and will be a motivated group on home ice. And while the Sens have a seven point cushion over the 9th place Capitals, Washington has a couple games in hand.
Florida dropped a 3-1 decision to the Nashville Predators last night.
Yesterday, the Sens announced they have called up forward Rob Klinkhammer from Binghamton of the AHL. Acquired from the Hawks in a mid season deal, Klinkhammer has racked up 35 points in 35 games and has really impressed the organization with his work ethic.
With Klinkhammer, who will wear #36 up from Bingo, Zack Smith is expected to be a healthy scratch. Here is how the Sens lined up at the morning skate.
Michalek-Spezza-Butler
Klinkhammer-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-O'Brien-Neil
Greening-Konopka-Condra
Kuba- Karlsson
Phillips-Gilroy
Cowen-Gonchar
Robin Lehner will start in goal.
After tonight's game against the Panthers, the Sens are in Tampa on Tuesday night before heading home to take on the Rangers and Sabres to close out the week.
A reminder that puck drop is at 6:00 PM tonight with all the action available on Sportsnet and TVA Sports. And as much as I'll miss the Party City advertisements and the enetertainment from the Panthers cheerleaders, it will be nice to have an actual broadcast from Florida this evening.
Zack Smith has gone super quiet the past 30 games after a rock solid start. Big fan of Zack Smith, hopefully, he can bounce back and help provide the offense that he was showing earlier on!
Lookin forward to seeing the best name in our organization play, on the second line!
Would have liked to see the 3rd and 4th line flipped though.
Greening - O Brien - Condra
Foligno - Konopka - Neil
Maybe its due to my mancrush for Greening thinking he shouldn't be down on the fourth line.. Hoping he has a strong end to the year after starting off so strong. Rookie pains I guess.
The call-up also makes me happy. Bryan Murray has done an amazing job of bringing up the bingo players that are playing well and with effort.
Now hopefully Petersson can get hot again and DaCosta can get healthy so they can get called up for a game or two before the end. They could both use a confidence boost.
Big game tonight. Boston lost again tonight. We need to take advantage. It would really become a huge story if we can win the division and/or a series or two in the playoffs. Not only for the fans and media attention but for Bryan Murray to realize he's ahead of sched for the rebuild. And obviously Eugene will have a few extra bucks in his pocket so he'd be more willing to try to aquire a guy like Parise
Zack has been one of my favorite players on our squad this year, but as others have opined he really hasn't been the same the past couple weeks, maybe he is nursing a little something, let's hope a game or two off gets him back his jump&grind, hot DAMN the kid is impressive when he's at the top of his game.
Massive points on the line, come on boys let's get'er done tonight!
As Steve Lloyd pointed out on twitter, all these Bingo guys played about 100 games last year. Not alarming that they're low on gas right now. And some of them are ex-NCAA guys too so went from playing the shorter college schedule to a long AHL playoff run. Not to mention bus trips up and down for some of them all last year.
On Lehner - let the kid have an extended run here. He's still plan A for the future. Bishop can chill in Bingo for a bit - he'll get an NHL start at some point I'm sure. Especially if he's waiver exempt next year (which appears to be the case).
Yes, yes he is. Thanks
On a side note, surprised to see Daugavins scratched again for the 3rd game...There are many guys (Condra, Greening, Konopka, Turris, Butler) who seem to do nothing almost night in and night out. Guess thats what happens when your one of only 2 guys on a two-way contract...
Needs to play five games before they give up that pick.
If Petersson, Silfverberg, Zibanejad etc push Bulter out then so be it.
Butler is paid to be a goal scorer......he has 6 goals..... he has 16 goals in 89 games, not exactly worth the contract he is on
GO SENS GO!
I don't think you can judge a 24 year-old's value strictly on $/goal. Not when he's only making $1M.
My money is on Petersson actually - I know he hasn't been lights out this year but I think he's a guy that will just quietly drop into the lineup next year.
Wow.....future' s looking bright.
I think silfverberg will make our needs on July 1st to be focused on a top dman.
go SENS go!
At the start of the season he was one of our most promising forwards, but what did he get for his offensive production? Nothing. No shifts on the wing on the big line. No extra minutes here or there. and then eventually he just cooled.
Same goes for Foligno. He was playing great at the start of the season. We made ice-time for him as a 2nd line Centre and he played even better. Then we picked up Turris and it was like Foligno never existed.
Paul Maclean is great, but he's got to start taking advantage of guys who are playing well.. he's already got the 'punishing guys who aren't' part figured out.
I agree that Butler has been given a bit of a pass lately but maybe for more of a lack of scoring depth than anything else.
Foligno could move up to a top 6 spot but all these moves are a bit of a hope and a prayer that one of these guys is going to get hot and find some chemistry on the top 2 lines until some things can happen in the off season and training camp.
A guy like Da Costa could come up, but what's his injury and production status right now? On a team that Greening and Condra are being swapped into the top 6, its obvious some skill is still needed. That skill is being developed and off season signings and trades can help too.
I'm glad to see Lehner get another game. The Chicago game was his best NHL performance to date, but the media consensus after the loss seemed to be to put in Bishop.
Turris has already shown success in the NHL playoffs. Brassard has never even been close to the playoffs.
I don't see the upgrade there at this point. The issue with Turris is that he's only playing with one other forward essentially. HIm and Alfie may as well be playing by themselves.
With respect to Smith and this is completley unsubstantiated ...he makes me nervous that he might like to party a bit more than you should on an NHL contract. hopefully that isn't the case not really sure what else would explain it.
Where do you get this impression? Does your cousin's girlfriend's sister-in-law's brother sell him blow or something? All I see is a rookie going through his first full NHL season, but I don't want to jump to conclusions or anything.
Quoting TheSensTruth:
Never seen Silfverberg play but if all reports are accurate he will make the big club. I have a feeling Zibanijad may split time between Bingo and Ottawa, but theres no way Prince or Noessen go back to junior. Pageau has another year in the Q and Puempel's off season will prove where he ends up next season. Stone could have been in the AHL this year but going back to the W was better for his development.
and sounds like he knows his role...
http://video.blackhawks.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=86541
I think with the work ethic "The Klinkhammer" has shown in Binghampton, he should be given some powerplay time to show what he can do. If he can produce at the NHL level over the next few games he'll definitely be one of our black aces in the press box heading in to the playoffs.
Doggy and Smith bring sandpaper and grit both are better then Condra and Butler hopefully this is more of a rest for Smith he has played a lot of hockey over past year
not sure it's fair to give Klink PP shifts - hasn't earned it. He's earned a callup period - our PP is fine - we're not on a 5 game losing streak - wholly f*ck folks relax.
;-{ says Robin, our GOALIE.
Isn't that the reason he went back to Sweden- To get himself NHL ready?
He has declared himself NHL ready now...no?
Wrong , I hope your joking cause that's so far off wow
Murray begged Silfverberg to stay "NHL ready" was Murray's quote
Zibby wouldn't be surprised if he starts in Ottawa and plays in Bingo ex karlssons first year
You can't compare a forward to a defencemen ..defencemen take longer and has nothing too do with coming from overseas
sadly it ended last night. they played i believe CHL's best or top 2 team the london knights and 67s won 2-1. only reason they won was because of the stud in net petr mrazek.
but hey, im not complaining to get #61 overall (arguablly a 3rd rounder but was a 2nd rounder) and be this good? thanks amateur scouts. as always
as for noesen and puempel, didnt we sign them to their ELC, why would we waste them in junior next year? i think thats an indicator that they will be going straight to the A next year
Those are some BRUTAL nicknames.
Still junior eligible for next year, cant play in the AHL
is that so, i wasnt sure if their ELC starts whether they are in junior or at the pros, i knew they still could play in junior but i just assumed it would start their ELC either way, but thanks
edit: just had a brain fart, you are right, N.american players cant play in the AHL until they are too old for junior, no idea how that slipped my mind... sunday, cant blame my memory too much. i still dearly apologize to my liver from last night... as its making me suffer with this hangover...
Silfverberg highlights just FYI
funny enough, those dont include this years highlights, just wait till the end of the season im sure someone will take the time to use this years' highlights. biggest difference in his game this year is he is a lot more physically involved. these highlights dont show his defencive game at all, but take my word for it, he is very reliable on all ends of the ice. unlike some other swede we watched on youtube too much..
Murry wanted him to stay to learn the NHl style which meant games in Binghamton which he wasn't on board with. If he was told he would play the year in Ottawa do you think he would have gone back??? of course not. I think he will be a good player but there is a learning curve he will have to go through........ As for coming overseas the ice is smaller and the play is more physical...all im saying is don't be a LEAF Fan and think the kid is going to score over 20 goals...I hope he does but don't hold your breath, he will have to adjust
ya, hard to say what the issue is... thats the problem with Gomez apparently and he could play through it when he was younger, not so much anymore.
Yeah, very confusing.....N ot sure if this was supposed to be some sort of weird Haiku or double speak...Or maybe he was just realllllllly stoned....
Smith hasn't played like his normal self since taking that big hit.... maybe time off to rest the body and heal the mind... so to speak... Still really like the guy...
First of all Butlers only making one million... Not exactly "Being paid to be a goal scorer" ... plus he's 24 in his first full season and he's played alot of hockey in the last year as compared to college and was injured during camp which immediately almost guaranttes a slow start for any player... Do you watch any games??? Cause i watch every single one and can tell you Turris has been good on almost every night in a sens jersey, probably one of their most consistent players, he's just had no luck as of late, posts and other players missing beautiful setups.... as for Greening and condra their in the same boat as Butler other than the injury part, both in their first full seasons after playing college befiore which is only 40 game seasons then playing over a 100 games last year.... Stop hating on the rookies and sophmores that won a calder cup last year... developement takes time... Its not like their first overall picks, so stop expecting them to be.. I'm glad you aren't ottawas GM cause from all your posts it sounds like you have no hockey knowledge (no offense but your posts paint a pretty clear picture of that) and you would probably throw all our prospects and young players away for nothing cause apparently 1 million or less is "Being paid to be a goal scorer" ... its called fatigue and possibly a bit of a sophmore slump which i dont even want to go through how many players have had those..
What are you taking about ? Bingo was never talked about with Silfverberg he was told stay your NHL ready and Silfverberg said he didn't think his game was NHL in his own eyes...
You sound like a Leaf fan talking out of your ass don't make shit up if you don't know what's going on .!!
Did u see Silfverberg at world juniors 18 or 20 this kid can play dont worry about the size of the ice
Just look a his comments, ignore him and his "hole" as he says...
True, first round type Big League goal scorers can actually lose their scoring touch, their edge, playing in the American League, especially if you are a Russian or a Swede!
As Robin Lehner is showing you, playing goals in the "Show" and playing the "Target Position" in the "A" are completely different and don't necessarily complimant each other.
1. Silferberg has great potential and was deemed NHL ready by Murray and his staff at training camp last year, he decided to go back himself so he was totally ready, judging on his stats and comments about his play this was a good move for him.
2. We have no idea if Rundbland will be a great defenceman and just because he had troubles coming over doesnt mean you project everyone else based upon his struggles.
3. Silferberg is way ahead of Zibanejad in his developement.. This due to age first of all and experience. you cant really compare players that aren't in the NHL and are 3 years apart agewise.
As for turis I don't think u can say he's been on of the better sens, he a second line center playing pp time and is on pace for 40 points, he has been silent as of late
Butler should have been sent down but he's on a two way, I think he has been given every chance and then some to produce and say for a couple of assist hasn't done much worthy of this ice time or line mates, like most college free agents he might be good he is only 24 but seems to be a really long way off
Sens need a huge win today !!!!
did you just compare robin lehner to a player losing their scoring touch?... interesting
Lol.. if they lose their 'edge' it has nothing to do with the league and everything to do with the paycheque and the fact that they don't care. i.e. Robin Lehner
he knows he can compete at an NHL level and doesn't care about the AHL at all
spoiled brat sure can play, but its emery all over again. Kid thinks he's bigger than the world.. but he's not bigger than Ben Bishop (see what I did there?)
Go Sens Go!!
I agree to a point, this years ahl for lehner is not being beneficial to lehner because his heart is not in bingo. It was last year after being booed in the beginning to being the ahl calder cup mvp after leading bingo from a 3 game deficit in the first round and being the hero and taking the baby sens for an epic run! Bingo was great for lehners development last year and its too bad he couldn't keep his head in it and rule the ahl until he was called up.
Ahl was good for lehner because he's coming from junior "a" not the "s.e.l" i would rate as a mens pro league not a junior league so obviously players are more developed.
"Can't Murry just say it was a terrible signing and send him down. The best part is butler gets a raise next year a will be making over a million. Good luck finding someone stupid enough to take that contract."
I'd call that a little more than throwing someone under a bus...
But it wouldn't have helped Lehner at all considering he would only be expected to play 10 games all season if Anderson stayed healthy
I think Murray expected this and that's why he signed Auld. To give Lehner his own team to lead and get a ton of playing time
Unfortunately Lehner and the Senators didn't see eye to eye and his play in Bingo is reflecting that. I don't agree with rewarding a guy for playing poorly. That said, he certainly isn't playing poorly now. Would be a shame to send him back, but as far as paying dues and earning NHL ice time goes, Bishop is miles ahead of RL right now.
Sure it would be more convenient to have Bishop back up Andy and have Lehner stay in the AHL for the next 2-3 seasons but I don't see it happening that way since Lehner is ready now and may stagnate down there if we go that route.
I say let him play and bring Bishop in for the Leafs game on the 17th as it is our first back to back games in the near future as long as he doesn't shit the bed before then. Then on the 17th we will get to see just what Bishop has at the NHL level and make a decision on him then. Also lets the Leafs know what they could have had for a 3rd. HAHAHA!
If Bishop plays lights out which I also expect him to do, I am at a loss as to what the correct way to handle it all will be. One of the 3 will have to move in the off season as there is no way we can have 3 #1 goalies. Fortunately, they should bring us a good return who ever management deems is the one who leaves.
Good too see him get his props !!
Release the Lehner
Well "most" games I should say
YES !!!!!!! GREAT ODIN's BEARD
"Andy" comes in last year and plays like a "Pro" behind a brutal hockey team that even managed to make 19 year old Lehner look bad. The projection for our rebuilding SENswas not much better for this year so "Andy" is to be shelled for another 70 games this year. Robin was to pay his dues in the "A". My problem was that I thought Robin should have been shielded and brought along in the "Bigs" because it didn't take much of a hockey man to tell you that if you were rebuilding in the Show your American league team would be young and inexperienced.. .Sort of like having ELMIRA trying to compete in the "A" and that they would probably demolish both their young goalies!
Which is what happened! Lehner should have been up here seeing National League shots all year!
there's a new talent - Simmer, I think they call him. He's like Bob Cole Jr - I got sick of listening to say "Kyle" Greening and Nick Fo-LIG-no and called the station and suggested they tell him. He's an x-leaf management type - sickening homer - actually a very knowledable guy but seriously F_OFF with the Leafs this leafs that
BM said all year that Lehner would come up if Anderson got hurt and he's true to his word. Lehner seizing the opportunity as well.
Everything going according to plan.
"blah blah blah"
You sound like Lehner's mom.
Why not talk about other team issues or are you the spoiled goalie himself?
If you are the real deal and the future goalie you will shelf your whining and concentrate on what's best for the team.
Mature, know your place, back your team (Yes, Bingo is part of our team) and good things will happen.
Many promising pros have been rushed to the show unready mentally and physically only to crash and burn.
RELAX...or you aren't the one.
YA...
Was thinking the same thing. NHL.com has Cowen as the scorer. May change(?)
Yes
GO SENS
how bout the hammer?!!?
I couldn't give a flying fart about any Toronto or Montreal hockey news. (Even if the whole team spontaneously combusted...)
Indeed !
And the Leafaroos are NOT EVEN PLAYING TODAY !
Good old TURD1200 - worst sports station in Canada.
equally cheesy
Wasn't it pure essence of Jaguar?
GUESS SOOO.....
What the heck happened?
Next season I can't wait that long add in Smith and Klink and Winnie
Remove Butler Condra Kono
Please remove that waste of space, Bobby Butler from your lineup. The guy is a bust, flash in the pan, never was.
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely.
Mike Bauer
Ps. Butler will likely score now just to stick it to me.
Greening = 172
Condra = 166
Smith = 166
Butler = 157
Klink Spezza Greening
Milo Turris Alfie
And is this Canunick guy high all the time? He's like sipping coffee with double shots of weed every morning
"Why did you give up a 2-0 lead?
"Well... we need to keep the puck in their zone and shoot the puck"
"What is the challenge for the PK unit?"
"Well... we have to block them from going to the net."
...CAPTAIN OBVIOUS STRIKES AGAIN
Sunshine sweep!
Lehner looking quite average this game, that breakaway...ouc h.
Spezza and Karlsson are probably tired from carrying this team for the last month...
Karlsson is playing very selfish.
Nick, its a contact sport my man, no tripping anywhere.
Karlsson is just frustrated cuz he's playing like crap.
Florida didn't get called for tripping Butler earlier either. Seems to be a trend tonight.
Bad game by the Senators overall. Good start, got complacent.
Good florida goal as they blew by our pylons on D tonight.
Pretty sad when your best player is Klinkhammer.
Edit: Yeah never mind
This might be a great time to call up Bishop!
Regardless, suck it up and take it to Tampa next boys.
Go Sens go,
Spendzza
Sens Zero: Erik Karlsson.
Honestly, Lehner has played good, and he is gonna be the real deal, but he is so far away from being technically ready.
Bishop just gave up 4 goals in bingo's 5-2 loss...
The sens need more than a goalie to win...it's going to take a full team effort! We really need to be on our game against Tampa or it's going to be a really rough week...YIKES! COME ON SENS!!!!
Ill give Karlsson a gimme tonight because well its karlsson.
Dont think you can blame any of those goals on Lehner to be honest... Those were all great scoring opportunities.
damn. sens losses effect my well being.
agreed
Aha same man. I watch every single one of these games at the edge of my seat. Hate seeing them lose. Especially against teams that they should beat.
Tonight was poor. Zero enthusiasm after the first period.
I don't mind Matt Gilroy, but I think we're kind of missing Brian Lee.
Karlsson was forced to do why to much
And players like Condra Butler Gonchar need too start looking in mirror cause they are awful
It's only one game but Klink played well.
If the Caps win their 3 games in hand...they'll only be 1 point behind us. That's not really taking things into our own hands, playing with fire.
Also, what the FUCK is Butler doing on the top line. Get Greening up their, bring back the daug and smith, and scratch Butler and Konopka.
Greening-Spezza-Michalek
Klinkhammer-Turris-Alfredsson
Foligno-Smith-Condra
Neil-O'brien-Condra
Karlsson-Kuba
Phillips-Gilroy
Gonchar-Cowen
Bishop
Lehner
...and were back in business.
Btw, idk who said that Turris had a terrible game tonight, but whoever did must've been watching the wrong hockey game. Because Turris, along with Cowen and the Hammer, were obviously our best players in a terrible effort by the Sens tonight. Let's hope we can beat a red-hot tampa team tuesday, or else we are going to find our playoff cushion disappear.
GO SENS GO
Meh... This game was a stinker for sure, but I would still give anything to play them over Boston.
We go up 2-0 in first period, but fall apart in second !
Our top 6 did nothing all night, Karlsson played his shittiest game, and took bad penalties !
This was one of their bad games, and they need to bounce back on Tuesday in Tampa Bay
We really need to see the same team, that beat the Bruins 1-0 in Boston last Tuesday !!
I totally agree with you. When I did not like the Lee trade at all during trade line. Gilroy looks confused and out of position out there.
Also I saw the highlights for the Tampa bay game vs Rangers game. Karlsson's skills totally rubbed of on him. He got 2 assists, and they were both incredibly nice passes which included a nice stamkos set up.
As for this game, as N.W.A would say FUCK THE POST!
