A Must Win in Bingo

It may seem a little early in the series to be calling it a must win but it certainly has that feel to it for the Binghamton Senators. Trailing the best of seven, 2-1, the BSens need to find a way to break through offensively tonight against a stingy Houston Aeros team.

Puck drops at 7:05 PM.

The Binghamton Senators definitely started to show signs of life late in Game 3 and will be looking to carry over some of that energy into tonight's contest. Roman Wick, who was hurt late in Game 3, will not be in the line up for this one. David Dziurzyinski takes his spot in the line up.

What makes the result of tonight's game even more significant is the fact that the SensChirp/RSU road trip is set to roll out tomorrow.  I certainly like the idea of heading down there with the series tied at 2-2 a lot better than the prospect of watching a potential elimination game for the BSens.

Here's hoping the Sens can get that potent offence rolling tonight.

  • Nothing new to report on the Sens search for a head coach. As I suggested a couple days back, the interview process has in fact already wrapped up. Some have suggested that they would wait until the end of the Calder Cup Finals to speak with Kleinendorst but I'm not sure that is the case. The team will have a coach in place before the Entry Draft.
  • Don Brennan has added the name of Gerard Gallant to list of candidates interviewed.
  • The list of candidates (which I believe is now complete) includes MacTavish, Maclean, Muller, Gallant, Cameron, Kleinendorst and Boughner.

For those of you that signed up for the road trip, stay tuned for further details on the trip. We have sent out an email to everyone at that includes some important details about the BingoBus.  If you have any questions feel free to email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. See you tomorrow afternoon!

My guess is they'll wait until the end of the Calder Cup Finals solely out of respect to KK. (I highly doubt he gets the job, so do you really want to demotivate him when the BSens need him at his best).

Either the Sens trade up and grab Landeskog or sit tight and take Ryan Strome. Fairly convinced those are the two possibilities being considered right now.

Team specific needs aside, it sounds like the top four, ranking-wise at least, are pretty much set in stone.

RYAN NUGENT-HOPKINS
ADAM LARSSON
JONATHAN HUBERDEAU
GABRIEL LANDESKOG

Surprising that Couturier might be the odd man out there...

I have to say, I dont think I want Ottawa to move up in the draft. From what I understand it would take to much to get into the top 5 to snag GL. I would sit tight, I am sure Strome, or Zib, would be good picks to grab round 6. (assuming top 4 are RYAN NUGENT-HOPKINS, ADAM LARSSON, JONATHAN HUBERDEAU, GABRIEL LANDESKOG)

I'm hoping they trade with Florida.

Moving up 3 spots by using the 6th overall + maybe a 2nd or 3rd.... then try also to get Gudbranson from them.
He won't sign in Florida... so they either have to trade him or let him re-enter the draft when the signing period has expired.
Package Weircoch + whatever else it would take (within reason) to get him.

They don't want Couturier because his strength is weak, he is slow on his feet, his offensive upside is nto as high as Strome's and because he played in the Q.
Quote

+1 #25 jasonontheoldsenschirp 2011-06-03 15:09
the thing is Couturier is NHL ready and could very well start and fill the second line centre void should he be drafted.

If he indeed falls at 6th, I don't see why Murray would not draft him.

I like Strome, but even more I like Zibenejad.

Anyone know if a drafted player can "quit" an active contract that they have overseas? MZ is signed until 2013...

I think one more season in the SEL, and whoever drafts him is going to be thoroughly pleased. My darkhorse of the draft!

I'm no expert... but why?

To move into the top 3 -- you are going to have to give them something else.

To get Gudbranson who was the 3rd overall pick last year... you have to give something as well.

Of course Calgary got almost nothing for Erixon but Gudbranson was a higher draft pick that him.

It was just a thought..

it's not ridiculous for Ottawa, it's ridiculous for a team to move down 3 spots while only getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

And Florida is not trading their best prospect (who wants to play there btw)

I really like the idea Sandy put out there actually. Gudbranson will be way better then Weircoch or Regin and to get two third overallers in one year would be great. and they have so manny picks that I would give to be in that situation.

Erik Gudbranson

To FLA:

Patrick Weircoch

That would be an amazing trade. I just don't think Dave Tallon is dumb enough to do it.

Gudbranson is more comparable to Cowan, not saying I would trade Cowan, but if I were Dave Tallon, that would be the guy I'd be asking for.

But hey, crazier things have happened.

so landeskog has proven one thing at the combine.. he's a man playing in a boys league

but he didnt lead that league in points per game or goals per game

what this shows me is that yes, he's NHL ready, but no, he doesnt have a high ceiling.

Ottawa doesnt need NHL ready cause guess what, our entire team isnt' NHL ready.

we need someone who will be really good in 2-3 years. landeskog might ceiling at 2nd line winger and everybody (except the professional scouts) are jumping his bone.

Who ever Ottawa gets I will respect the choice, because they always tend to get the best player they can. If they move up there is something in the guy they see and if not there wasn't enough or the guy they wanted dropped.

Right now they are all just prospects and names.

Almost nothing for Erixon? If he reentered the draft, they would've gotten a 53rd overall supplemental pick (next year), instead they gave up a 5th rounder for a guy drafted in the 5th round and got TWO 2nds this year. Yeah what a terrible deal...

Oh and Florida has another year to sign Gudbranson before he reenters the draft, and most of those rumours are just that, rumours...

This is how I thought it would go:

To Ottawa

3rd overall

To Florida

6th overall
2nd round pick from Chicago.. not sure is it around 48th?

Separate deal:

To Ottawa

Eric Gudbranson

To Florida

Patrick Weircoch
Then I don't know what else they would send.. but it would have to probably involve a roster player and another pick.
Would you send the Sens 2nd round pick @ 36 or try another prospect from Binghamton... like Daugavins? Potulny?

If you look at what Calgary got for Erixon.. it was two picks + a prospect.

Our farm team has a lot of offensive depth to be able to comfortably demote a recent 3 year signing to the NHL player to the 4th line.

Actually they gave up the 5th lol:P Erixon+5th for 2 2nds and prospect.

Yeah, I thought the terms thing last year was because he wasn't NHL ready (which he wasn't), and apparently there's also a rumour that when he got to Florida he said "how can I help this team become a winner and what can I do for the community?" Again just rumours, but I'd be more inclined to believe that considering how much value he puts into his family.

How about this?
to florida
6th overall pick
2nd rounder
3rd rounder

foligno (like him alot but not sure where he fits in) or of sens can get flo to take regin, even better
Wieroch (doesn't look like he is fittng into ahl too well and maybe tallon hasn't been watching ahl playoffs)

To ottawa
gudbranson
3rd overall pick

However, I don't think tallon is going to give up on gudbranson and it would likely take way more draft and prospect pieces to get him out of florida. Not worth it considering sens are in much more need of a forward to play with spezza (need to get the rebuild done before spezza is past his prime).
