With the battle at the bottom of the standings tightening up, I'm sure there were some fans disappointed to see the Sens pick up the single point. Although I think even those fans have to admire the fight in this team right now.
Despite giving up four goals, Craig Anderson was strong in goal again. Thrashers finished the game with a significant edge in shots on goal and if not for Anderson, this game would not have been as close as it was.
He has now stopped 11 /12 shootout attempts in an Ottawa uniform.
Marek Svatos scored the tying goal for the Sens in this one. It was his second of the game and 100th in the NHL.
Beginning tomorrow, I'll be doing a week of giveaways here on SensChirp. Each day, I'll be handing out a pair of tickets in the Wiser's Suite on the 100 level for the Sens/Flyers game on April 5. You must be legal drinking age to enter.
Check in tomorrow for complete contest details.
Here is how the bottom five look after this afternoon's action with both the Sens and Panthers losing in shootouts.
| NY Islanders | 76 | 29 | 35 | 12 | 70 | ||||||||||
| Florida | 76 | 29 | 36 | 11 | 69 | ||||||||||
| Ottawa | 76 | 29 | 37 | 10 | 68 | ||||||||||
| Colorado | 74 | 28 | 38 | 8 | 64 | ||||||||||
| Edmonton | 75 | 23 | 41 | 11 | 57 |
Although I did find myself cheering when we tied it up/on that Spezza move. Such a frustrating team right now because it is in our best interest to lose, but they obviously aren't and are at least looking competitive in winning(hopeful ly it carries over to next season, but I won't be holding my breath).
Final thought for now....what in the hell happened to that Andrew Ladd guy? LOL
And it's kinda ironic that we won the first shootout ever.
Kleinendorst?
I think I would be fine with a short extension....I am not even 100% convinced that he is the one making the "who is on the ice" choices anymore.
I would prefer a 'youngish' coach/asst coach in the NHL that is good with young talent. That is the key.
Someone like Hitchcock would be a disaster. I also hope it is not Cameron. Maybe bring him in as an assistant.. but definitely not as head coach.
Johne is the exact kind of dumb fan I despise. Has an orgasm in his pants just because the team is winning meaningless garbage games down the stretch. Why don't you go join Leaf nation where the type of success you get excited about is seen as a predictor of a bright future every year. Ottawa is extremely likely to be a bottom 5 team next season. If they do better than that it will be a pleasant surprise.
I'm sure most of us are hoping they bring in a coach with significant NHL experience, but I just can't ignore the Melnyk-Cameron connection. I'm not sure how I feel about bringing in another inexperienced head coach, but Cameron.s record with Mississauga is pretty impressive, 53-13-0-2.
Any idea who some of the potential candidates could be Chirp? Have you heard any names floating around other than Dave Cameron?
I have a stress ball you can have. Maybe have a white wine spritzer. Either way, relax.
I've heard his name mentioned as well, but why? Just curious. People always throw out names but then fail to mention why.
I disagree that some of these teams have nothing to play for. I really think Wash wants 1st in the conference. There are only 3 teams right now that have clinched playoff spots.. and that's Philly, Pitts & Wash.
The Rangers and Tampa don't have a guaranteed spot yet and I can't believe they would 'throw' a game. New Jersey, when Sens played them both times had a chance of making it in... but the Sens did not help that by beating them both times.
Yes they are being outshot a lot of nights.. BUT they now have decent goaltending.
What do you expect, re shots per game, when half of your team is AHL call-ups. Until Michalek came back, the Sens had 1 legimate top 6 forward for almost a month + 3rd & 4th liners + the AHL players and they still are giving teams fits when they play them. Sens are definitely right now a hard team to play against.
That's sucks re: Gryba. How serious is it? I think he was due for a call-up to the Sens.
How did Lehner play in his 2 wins this weekend? I see he let in 1 goal in two games... so I assume he was great.
It looks good for them to make the playoffs. With the addition of Butler, Condra, Greening and possibly Karlsson and any other player that would be eligible to play in the AHL -- they could have a good run.
the other coach i also hear lots about is Dave Cameron ( i dont know much about him other than his connections with Melnyk and i guess coaching team Canada WJC.)
i rather an experienced coach. remember
or we should hire Emilio Estevez (actor, and was in the movie The Mighty Ducks as the head coach) or we should hire Charlie Sheen.
If I understand the rules correctly I don't think we can lend any of our players currently on one-way contracts. I believe the experience of these high pressure games will be more beneficial to the young guys than these no-pressure games at the NHL level.
I don't think this team need's Martin's defensive tactics when they have enough trouble scoring as is. Good coach, but I'll never forgive him for harnessing Spezza's offensive ceiling.
EXACTLY !!!!!
LOSSES? Buffalo twice, Carolina, Rangers. Common denominator? They're both fighting for playoffs.
BEATEN? Tampa twice, Philly once, Caps, Florida. Common denominator? They're either pretty much locked for the playoffs or locks to miss the playoffs. We are out-working them and this is why we are winning. You really think next year when every1 starts at 0pts we will be out-working teams this often? I predict another bottom finish but only time will tell...
Is it insecurity or the need to feel superior that you always talk down to people? If we are going to toss around the term "dumb" then lets look at this situation. What's dumber, a fan being optimistic about his team or you attacking that person cause he made a comment on a forum that's directed to the general population, not you.
I don't know what's sadder, the fact you must belittle people or the fact that you don't even see the wrong in it.
Anyway... Chirp.. your opinion... does Ottawa have a better chance at Thomspon or Da Costa?
Lessard actually is not available to us to use. He didnt make the clear day roster for us down here, as too Jason Bailey. Ottawa cant send down Karlsson either as someone suggested earlier. Hale can be sent down to help too as he did make the CDR.
I think he would make a good NHL coach hands down.,

Good to know.I assume that Greening, Condra and Wiercioch are all eligible but what about Zack Smith?
he a shifty player with something to prove and I`m wondering if he might have a bounce back year the way afinogenov did.
depending on how he rounds out the next few games, i wouldn`t be against signining him to a one year contract for 1-2 million.
Never thought of him, but now that you mention it...yes.
Also, super glad to hear Lehner's doing well in the little-league.
I never thought I'd be so happy to be at the bottom of the league.
New Hampshire lost last night, Paul Thompson is now free to grab, hopefully he wants to play with bobby butler, they did play together last year. id rather see murray sign Thompson then Da Costa.
NJ 79 pts
NYI 77 pts
Sens 76 pts
FLA 74 pts
COL 67 pts
EDM 61 pts
I dont mind any pick in the top6, its not like theres much of a dif. between 2-6 anyways
Theres just Larsson thats prob the best player out there.
-RNH
-Landeskog
-Couturier
-Strome
-Huberdeau
Does this mean that they are giving 10 tikets ( 5 pairs) ?
Great way to end the season Chirp !!
Let the contests begin !!!
You would think Butler (a former teammate of Thompson), and his success with this team would be a great influence on him to come here.
Da Costa would be nice as well out of Merrimack, but simply based on his size I would prefer Thompson.
Go Murray Go!
Actually, the saddest thing is that he posts under multiple names (Tyrant, OneLiner, etc.) on multiple forums such as HockeyBuzz and everyone thinks he's a know-it-all prick. The fact of the matter is he knows just as much about hockey as every other armchair GM on this site but he carries himself as the end-all be-all of hockey knowledge.
Combine that with how no one decided to read his sh!tty blog and decided to lash out at this world that has so rejected him.
Remember, this is the same idiot who thinks Ray Shero isn't a good GM.
Very well stated and described to a T !!
Of all the posts that Tyrant inserts on SensChirp, about 5% are factual. Sure he knows hockey more than many on this site, and for that I respect him ( for his knowledge), but
he is too condescending and feels overly superior to all of us, which defeats his positives.
Somebody please tell me why he isn't one of the talks around the league.
Easily one of the hottest forwards in the entire league right now. Get's no credit.
Sad to see the NHL community gives no props to Ottawa. Spezz has been doing great
I honestly believe that Jason Spezza has the ability be one of the best forwards in the league- as his point performance in the past has shown before. He is more consistent than most other high caliber forwards around the league. Hopefully I don't sound pretentious is what I'm saying, but I think individually, he is one of the most skilled players in the league hands down. We have seen this guy single handedly deke opposing players out and set up team mates for some highlight reel assists.
I guess the difference between Spezza and a Mike Richards, is that Richards has Giroux, Pronger, Carter, Briere, etc. to play with, and therefore doesn't need to be as individual.
Just thinking what Spezza can do again with good linemates- as he's done with Heatley. Spezza reminds more and more like Rick Nash: one of the most talented forwards in the game who is on a mediocre team.
I hope we can get a hold of a scoring winger in the OS, either thru the Free Agent Market, or through the draft.
However I'm still not convinced that Landeskog is a prolific goal scorer. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
sadly the anonymity of the internet lets cowards and bullies leap all over people who have differing opinions. Just because poster x likes a player that i don't or dislikes Spezza when I like Spezza doesn't mean the guy is automatically a moron.
on a sadder and conected note, i miss tookie, his delivery may have left something to be desired, but credit where it's due he was spot on from day one about this team and where we would end up this season - i think he should have his own blog on senschirp, he could be the antiyost or something
Put me down for Thompson too, I also prefer his size & scoring over Da Costa. I hope they announce this week that Murray has signed him.
I don't particularly care that people do it to me, it just never made any sense to knock someone around for being an optimist.
That said, here's optimism. I believe the Senators will make the playoffs next year. They need strong goaltending from Anderson, tightened up defense over this year, and a top-line winger to play with Spezza. If they get those things, then I think they'll be a playoff team, and no one will convince me otherwise. The only way I'll be dissuaded is if/when they are mathematically eliminated next spring.
So suck it, shred me, I don't care. I think they are a better team than most of their 'fans' give them credit for.
Apparently he's done it before:

ahaha!
skip to 1:18.
i love this guy.
You're such a retard sometimes, you don't think these teams are trying to play for home ice advantage? You don't think these teams are trying to win, develop chemistry, and have a hot streak that opponents will be weary of heading into the post season?
Outside of the teams that are mathematically eliminated, every team is trying their hardest to win games. Hope is better than no hope for all the teams on the outside looking in, and home ice advantage is a HUGE aid in winning playoff games.
Also, we don't really care for your opinion on other posters on here cause every one knows you have a baby dick....and therefore feel the need to shamelessly insult other posters...Loser ...
hahah yes i noticed he did that. kinda funny he is married with a child coming on the way. but he still cant resit those ice girls everytime.
Now that is what I call a "strong repartee, as well as a final parting shot" at the most shit disturbing poster on SensChirp !!
When Tyrant gets nailed by the truth, he never replies, and goes away for awhile !
Cut down for space
I would be shocked...and somewhat disappointed if this happened. You need to realize how many young/potential rookie players we will have, this is 99% of the time a recipe for disaster. Although if a team struggles together through a season or two I genuinely believe that in the long run it will make their bond stronger in turn likely increasing the long term productivity.
We all know I was right there with the we need to blow up...but I take a slightly less abrasive approach.
None of the Edmonton fans I know (literally not a single one) has any love for CMac. He only had one decent year whereEDM went deep into the playoffs. His record is atrocious.
So if you want CMac to coach us, please go directly to the asylum and check yourself in.
That is all.
I suppose I should have identified the reporter as Elliott Friedman. My Bad.
My dad always said "It doesn't matter where ya get your appetite, as long as you eat at home" Hahaha what an awesome video.
Let's hope Murray can still get a good college player.
You just contradicted yourself. "people who say "anyone who thinks x is stupid" are plain wrong, but I feel like must say that anyone who want Craig MacT as our coach should probably examine their mental health"
Way to complain about people and then go and do it yourself. Like the taste of that foot in your mouth? Posters are just throwing around names. Nobody here really knows who the coach will be next year.
Do you know all of the Edm fans or did you just ask 2 friends? Can I have a larger sample size please? Frankly I want Clouston gone. I don't care who replaces him as long as they can do a better job with player relations, lines, etc etc.
