McElhinney Starts vs. Devils

The Ottawa Senators have been out of playoff contention for awhile now.

But tonight at Scotiabank Place, they have a chance to all but snuff out the Devils faint chances at a top eight finish. The Devils have been on a magical run, going 23-3-2 over their last 28, but a loss to Ottawa tonight would be a dagger to their playoff hopes.

While fans of the team have been left to watch the bottom of the standings, you can be sure the players in the locker room relish their role as spoiler late in the seasons.

The Devils currently sit six points back of the 8th place Sabres but they have a game in hand. Pretty much a must win for them tonight.

Couple line up changes for the Sens as Roman Wick and David Hale take the place of demoted players Jim O'Brien and Andre Benoit. Nice to see David Hale get another shot with the big time. He actually looked pretty good during his previous call up.

Would like to see Clouston give Roman Wick some top six minutes today. He can't really show much when he's on a fourth line with Francis Lessard. Will post the line combinations when they become available.

With Craig Anderson tweaking something (lower body) last game, Curtis McElhinney gets the start on home ice.

Puck drops at 7:38 PM.

What's wrong with Lessard? He has the hands of Kristoff Oliwa and the vision of Jeff Healey.

Still just saying lower body. Can't be anything serious if he is dressing as back up.

Didn't see the game but highlights seemed to indicate Elliott actually played pretty well, despite the loss.

Thanks a lot Snoopy! It really was a terrifying process. What I had before was working but I couldn't help but think it had an opportunity to be more.

Still some changes to be made but I would say for the most part the new site has been very well received.

Although I love the role of playing spoiler, I really would love to see the Devils make the playoffs. I used to hate the Devils almost as much as the Leafs, but if they made the playoffs it would be the most epic regular season comeback ever, and that my friends would be a sick story. I'd be shitting my pants if I was a top seeded team having to play Jersey in the first round haha

I hope Wick has a solid game though. It would be nice to see what he could do with Spezza and Butler, although Greening has done a decent job on that line.

Call up #???

So many call ups, do you expect any other guys getting demoted to help Bingo? Or are the SENS waiting for the season to end.

I'd love to see the Devils continue on this run and take the Flyers out in the first round + helps increase our chances of clinging on to the 2nd overall pick.

Jersey was never a bad team they just went and hired the wrong coach. They promoted from within the organization to a guy who wanted to change the teams entire playing style to an offensive system. It's not surprising it didn't work very well for a team that has always been defense first. Literally as soon as the coaching change was made and they went back to basics on defense they started winning. The most incredible thing about the current streak is the number of wins that have come in overtime. Out of 23 victories I'm pretty sure they're up to 10-11 that came in overitme.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins tells AJ on Team 1200 that Spezza was his favourite player and Ottawa his favourite team growing up

Still prefer Landeskog , but .. nice !

The Devils are absolutely insane right now, their record is 23-3-2 in their last 28 games. I'm glad I held on to Kovalchuk all year in my fantasy league.

I would love to watch them pass the Leafs and make the playoffs, that would be outstanding!

he plays the same way as Spezza too.. I don't want to draft him, that's the last thing we need! Landeskog or Couturier please and then trade up and get Strome. ;)

Where's the link to our site? You don't have "friends" anymore?

Working on it! There was a tab that had links to other sites around the net and an RSS feed to the Sens site but the design of it didn't work out.

We are in the process of coming up with a new way of including that info.

I know it would be less flashy, but as a rabid proponent of "less-is-more, K.I.S." design, how about having Home, Chirp and Yost all in one? The idea would be, you load the site and the blog blurbs appear chronologically , with one click to pop-out comments.

Sorry for the entirely critical post, but wanted to get my feedback out there. Definitely appreciating your swift reaction to all the feedback (ie "powered by..." etc). Very impressive! Didn't want to give the impression I don't like the site. Keep up the great work!

Yeah. Elliott played stellar last night. The 5 guys in front of him were awful though. The loss was everyone's fault but his.

Anyways, I just hope Kovalchuk doesn't score tonight. I hate that guy.

Also, where is Yost? You touched on it earlier, Chirp, but why not just make the announcement? Why not wait to list his name in the menu until there's an actual article to link to?

Also, not finding the 'sponsor/highli ghts/pictures' thing useful for anything but taking up room. Maybe that's just me. Meant to include these in last post (hence the apology for all the criticism).

Doesn't Anderson know the fan base can't handle seeing a new goalie with an LBI and no timetable for return?!?!?! For God's sake, he should tell us it's an elbow injury or the flu and he'll be good in a few weeks.

That sliding display on the front will be important on the advertising side of things. But rather than just have ads there all the times, I wanted to also include highlights and pictures.

Ideally, the picture section will become a place where readers of the site can send in their own pictures. Either taken at a game or otherwise.

I do appreciate the feedback though. Yost will be here so rather than redesign things I decided just to wait it out.

Building suspense I suppose :)

I did offer to use the space for a "Chirp of the Week" feature though but nobody has sent in a submission yet!

Man, I hope he gives Wick those minutes. There's no point in not doing so.

Clouston has no job to save.

The organization can't tell what they have in Wick unless he plays substantial minutes.

If Clouston gives him 2-3 shifts in the 1st period on the 4th line, I say that Murray should fire him during the intermission and take over to actually see what value the young guys have.
