McElhinney Starts in Tampa

The Senators are getting hot at a really unfortunate time.

Great for the confidence of the young guys in the line up but not ideal with draft positioning at the front of the minds of most fans. Right now Ottawa is still comfortable in the 29th position (3 pts back of the Avs) but the teams in front of them are dropping, and fast. The Panthers and Avalanche are both playing awful hockey the last little while and are showing no signs of turning it around.

With that in mind, Clouston announced this morning that back up Curtis McElhinney will make his first start in a Sens uniform. Anderson has started the last nine so this was a good time to get him some rest, especially in the second game of a back to back. The Sens are not expected to make any changes to a line up that has now won three straight.

Here is how the Sens are expected to line up.

Greening-Spezza-Butler
Foligno-Smith-Neil
Condra-Shannon-Svatos
Potulny-Winchester-Lessard

Phillips-Lee
Kuba-Karlsson
Gonchar-Smith

Puck drop is at 7:30 PM For the first time in a little while, I won't be taking in the game live tonight. Going to head down to the Civic Centre to watch another one of the top ranked prospects in the upcoming draft in action.

Ryan Strome and his Niagara Ice Dogs are in town tonight to take on the 67's. Strome is a guy the Sens organization thinks very highly of with some scouts having him ranked as high as #2. He has 99 points in 66 games this season and has scored a number of highlight reel goals. Will try to provide an update tomorrow.

Thanks for posting the complete Projected Lineup .

Finally, Clouston decides to give Anderson a rest, and he starts Curtis McElhinney against a stronger opponent.

This will be a true test to show us what our backup can do !

Nice redesign though! It looks great!

McElhinney should get us back on the losing track, this Tampa team is way too good for us to be able to take down, but then again, the Sens did beat the Flyers, but that was with Anderson between the pipes.

0 #17 Fish 2011-03-11 12:00
The text editor is ignoring your line breaks. If you have an option to view html or source click that and look at that.

If you view the page source (raw html) the paragraph has all the proper spacing and formatting.

Now this makes sense!

Good call cloutson, to start anderson vs his old team and friends infront of family. good to give the guy a rest too.

Bad call cloutson on sitting karlson with 22 seconds left in the florida game to give the kid a chance at a hat trick, if you were worried about defence then play him as a forward in the last shift. the kid looked so pissed that he was taken off the ice!

It probably should have been the other way around. McBackup should have played vs. the weaker Panthers squad to give them a good chance to win. Anderson could then have started tonight and we'd probably still lose because the Lightning are that good. Not to mention if you're trying to evaluate him wouldn't it be better to make sure he plays the games vs. shooters like Stamkos.

Also chirp in terms of suggestions, the color scheme is hurting my eyes a bit. The grey background with white font isn't doing it for me. Black background would be much better IMO. I see what you're trying to do by changing the color of the comments so it stands out when one changes to another but it's not worth the pain in the eyes. When we get threads with 300 comments going again I won't be able to follow along. The link I'm providing has a bit of a discussion on the best color scheme. I think at very minimum it should be a white/black mix.

Great site Chirp, love the new look.

To be fair to the goalies, McElhinney is facing a team tonight with a few more sharpshooters in their lineup than last nights game.

It will be interesting to see if the players react differently with someone else in nets. And has anyone else noticed that since Anderson has been in nets, Phillips is playing some of his best hockey. He seems to be coming back into his old form. If he can continue to play like this we got a good deal on the signing. I'm glad he stayed a Senator.

I think the pairing with Lee has more to do with that. Lee has just been playing solid defense which I think allows Phillips to focus on his game more then having to worry what his partner is going to do.

The new site has a lot of nice features.

I liked how it looked a lot better at home then I do today from work. The popup comments seem to popup in the top left of the browser at work, but partially offscreen so I can't grab it and move it. Also, it's not a separate browser window, like the old site, which was preferable. There are too many pages as well, can we allow at least 50-100 comments per page?

Also typing gray on gray is not working for the comment box.

Is there a way for you to make that cool celebration background picture static so that even as you scroll down in articles or on a page the background doesn't move with it?

Overall the setup and visual aspect of the home page is pretty sweet, but the functionality beyond that needs help.

This is the only sports website I've ever been interested in posting on, I just hope that the comment section can be fixed well enough for it to be worthwhile to continue. Either way I'll still check in for the articles and rumors.

Comment length doesn't work properly.

Anderson's well deserved rest. good coaching.

among the many things that have impressed my about Anderson, is his ability to not let in BAD goals. Anderson has one shutout and has allowed just a single goal in six of his other eight starts, and usually, those goals that do go in are really lucky deflections and bounces.

Now the guy isn't a god, and even the best goalies in the league let in a cheeky one here and there. but throughout his time as a Sen, there have been very few, if any, "bad" goals where which it was his blatant fault like Elliot did.

Good goalie man

This is really a learning process, and it will be somewhat familiar in due time.

Take it one day at a time, as the proverb says !

Learning process for me too. I happen to love the new design but that has a lot to do with the increased options on my end.

As many fans I am sure... I am torn. I love to see the Sens win - especially beating top clubs with an AHL team. However, it is hurting our draft.

That being said, I hope we get a good look at Mc tonight in nets. I don't want to see him get shelled, but a loss here wouldn't hurt.

Question though - why wouldn't CC flip the goalies duties the other way? Mc last night against the panters and Anderson tonight against the Bolts? Or is that then we would have had 2 wins vs 1?

I love the new layout SensChirp been a follower for a while just never posted or shared my opinions. But I'll start with this. Good that McElhinney gets the start, Anderson (AnderGod) has played magnificent and really showed what he is capable of. Secondoly Adam larsson is who the Sens should draft if given the opportunity. The rule has always been take the best player available in the draft and he without a doubt is. Think of this D-Core

Larsson Karlsson Cowen Rundblad Lee Phillips with Gryba and Weircoch as subs

Larsson hasn't proved he is the stand out best player in the draft, in a draft like this one with 5 guys who are all potential to become solid NHL players you draft based on need and that is a forward and particularly one who can score.

What about that font size and email option?

Is that really of any particular use?

You could go either way on those, really I don't think it hurts anything.

The icons should use transparent png images or a better cleanup of the edges since they are full of white spots. Plus they could be a bit bigger. IMHO.

Yep some tinkering to be done with the number of comments and the way the page refreshes.

Once the popup comments are up and running things should be better.

RE: Tonights game - Putting in Mackle is a great excuse for us to lose this one. Winning streaks are terrible for us right now. lol

RE: The site - Comments are drastically easier to read today. Well done Chirp. Though the 'pop-up' comments is set to be too high. The close button is unreachable. lol

Anderson plays against his former team in Florida last night. McElhinney plays against the team that traded for him then threw him out. I think the right call was made for the tenders. Hopefully tonight will be more exciting than last.

ahahah

what more can you ask for?

mickey is playing like a solid backup goalie

Kuba is playing sick... creating chemistry with karlsson

Phillips is invisible (meaning so is everyone else on the ice.. perfect)

and Gonchar is creating offence

nick foligno using his speed to draw penalties

what a change a few weeks makes

oh, and has anybody mentioned Butler???

it was only a matter of time

To JABSmiles and other think alikes,
who kept knocking me, and pre-judging Curtis McElhinney, by calling him a "place holder" and not a qualified backup. ???

So far after 40 minutes he has made some superb saves on Lecavalier, Stamkos, St-louis etc ....

Unless the roof falls in, he should be one of the 3 Stars in this game

Who else is loving the swagger of this young, hungry team?

Guys stepping up, Anderson and Spezza showing leadership, a waiver pick up standing on his head, another road win versus a top team...

Gotta love the confidence of the team. They've really embraced being a spoiler.

It's amazing what a change in mentality can do for a team.

Don't worry about the draft position guys. Go for 4 straight boys!!

Well deserved 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning .

Team played great 2 way hockey, and the "place holder" named Curtis McElhinney, made 34 stops on 35 shots , earning him the 1st Star in the game !

another CC coached and played game - if nothing else these kids listen - Condra looks great - Butler just puts the puck in the net - as a friend once said about a girl that "really - really" liked boys...

"and there's absolutey nothing wrong with that"

anyways - first post on new site - looks great chirp

Mickey is a legit number 2. I don't see why people can't understand he's on as much of a tryout as Anderson.

BUTLER!!!!!!
